Goals for this week: Install the sink and faucetRebuild dresser drawers to function (around the sink drain)Trim the bathroom door on both sidesOrder shower organizer Officially MOVE INTO THE NEW BATHROOM because it's finished! Non bathroom goals: Continue working on getting printed photos into scrapbooks Go through DS1's closet to purge/organize List more 'to sell' items on FB Start the kitchen purge/reorganization Sit down with H and get our gameplan in place to begin renovating our old bathroom (we are turning it into a bath/laundry)Call for gutter estimatesDo my end of the month financial stuff (count savings, balance book, etc). We officially moved into the bathroom! It is absolutely GORGEOUS (I will post a picture in a moment, because I am so proud of my design skills, haha!) The only thing that I need to do now is order that darn shower organizer, I am going to do it as soon as I post my goals for this week- since I am sitting at my computer.

Goals for this week: Install the sink and faucet Rebuild dresser drawers to function (around the sink drain)Trim the bathroom door on both sides-- one more side to go, but we need to resecure a tile that popped loose when the door was installed first Order shower organizer Officially MOVE INTO THE NEW BATHROOM because it's finished! I spent all day Tuesday (as much as I could with a 2 year old around anyway) going through my kitchen cabinets and purging/reorganizing/rearranging. I did the last few cabinets today, and the top of the fridge. I turned it into a spring cleaning of sorts as well. I had a bucket of hot water and cleaner and wiped down all the cabinets, shelves, counters, etc. In total, I purged 175 items!! Some of it went into yard sale bins, and a lot of it went into the garbage. I purged 25 old cooking magazines- what was I holding on to those for? They were from 2007! I moved items around in a few cabinets too. They are in easier to access spots now and nice and organized. Hopefully that helps us out when we are cooking, etc. The only thing I need to clean up is the under sink cabinet with my cleaning supplies and extra lightbulbs, etc. It doesn't need purged as much as I just need to put everything back in the nice baskets I had them organized in at one time. Count for the year: 390/2,018

For anyone who is cash short right now and expecting a tax refund, I thought I'd let you know: I filed my tax return electronically on the first day the IRS was accepting e-filed returns. This morning, I notice my refund was direct deposited into my bank account. That's something like an 8-day turn around. We filed last Monday or Tuesday evening online and the federal direct deposited this morning. That's CRAZY fast for the IRS.

Hello Savers! I have been posting on WIRS for 3 ish years now. I think last year was the first year I really set goals for myself for the board though. I have been posting on WIRR on and off since 2008, but have been back full time since 2013. I became a SAHM in 2010, which is also the year we filed bankruptcy (13). It was such a learning experience for my H and I. We were only 24 years old and apparently, liked learning our lessons the hard way. Our debt was 50/50 medical and consumer. As much as I hate that we had to go through that, we learned SO MUCH and were able to not only complete the bankruptcy but we have thrived since it was over. It finally dropped off our credit report last year and we have GOOD credit for the first time in 8 years. In the last 8 years, we've been mastered making budgets. We've prioritized saving money for emergencies and paying off debts quickly. We don't always make the best choices, but I would say 95% of the time, we are financially responsible. Life is short. I share our financial story with anyone because if even one person learns something from it, then I feel like it was for more than just saving our home. I reallllllllly wish they required high school seniors to take a "basic financials" course before graduating. Our parents never taught us about budgets, credit cards, savings, taxes, meal planning, balancing checkbooks, etc. You know, the important things adults need to know! I am looking forward to reading more "intros" here! There are definitely unfamiliar "faces" on the board, but I love that everyone is here!

Re: Cleaning Schedules
I set one up for myself when I became a SAHM almost 8 years ago- and I still use it! It helps me stay on top of things without spending all day cleaning.
Monday- Clean out and organize the fridge and freezer- Basically throw out last weeks leftovers that didn't get eaten, take stock of what we have to use, wipe off shelves if needed, etc.
Tuesday- Clean the bathroom- wipe off mirror, counters, clean toilet, empty trash, sweep, mop if needed. I spray and wipe down the shower when I am in it, so that helps too!
Wednesday- Dust and vacuum the rooms.
Thursday- Clean kitchen- wipe backsplashes and counters, clean stove top, quick wipe out of oven (usually crumbs), wipe down the fronts of appliances, sweep, mop if needed.
Friday: Laundry day.
Saturday: Clean out the car. In the warmer months, this is my clean up the yard day (kids' toys, light yard work- sticks, leaves, etc).
My repetitive every day tasks are: Make beds, pick up toys, wash dishes.
I then have once a month or once a quarter chores too- clean baseboards, change filters, wash curtains and rugs, check smoke alarm batteries, etc. Those chores that just don't need done every week.

Count for the year: 200/2,018 Yay! We finally picked a shower fixture! Who knew deciding on something like that would be so difficult. We scoured the internet and our home stores, and everything was either super overpriced or not the style we were going for. We finally settled on one and ordered it last night- it should be here by Saturday! We also go the shower pan mortared into place last night. Today's goal is to start laying the floor tile!

Our "No Spend January" went really well! We managed to make it 26 days without ordering food out. The streak was broken Saturday when our dinner plans fell through (had a gc to go out, but I am still sick so we cancelled). We ordered pizza instead. I am really proud of that streak though, because we usually eat out 1-2 times a week! We may continue the challenge into February! H even commented "I don't really miss the junk food." Nice!

I've been spending my evenings working on my scrapbooking, which has been wonderfully calming. I've wanted to get the kids' scrapbooks caught up for years! I set up a folding table in my bedroom, so that I can work without having to clean it up/drag it back out every day. In the process of sorting through what I have saved, I have managed to organize it all and purge things I didn't really need to save. Purge count for 2018- 140/2018 Goals for the next 3 days: Clean out our SUV (much milder weather in the forecast, I need to take advantage of it) Take down the outside Christmas lights (again, take advantage of the nicer weather) Tackle our medicine cabinet and bathroom cabinet Work a little on the garage organization that we started last year. We ran out of warm weather so it kinda hit a stand still. Got the SUV cleaned out and even vacuumed! Also cleared up a significant amount of floor space in the garage- still got a lot of work to do in there, but alas, back to January weather after today. I also got the hutch cabinet in our dining room cleaned up. This is where I store board games and the kids coloring books and crayons. I threw out all of the filled up books and dried out markers. Count to date: 150/2,018

Today I plan to clean my kitchen and box up a bunch of dishes. I’m tired of my young adult kids using every single dish in the house instead of washing them. I got my kitchen back in living order today too. H did his best to stay on top of things while I was sick, but let's face it, no one cleans at my level!

Today's Peter Walsh challenge: Day 11 of #31Days2GetOrganized – Mail – Is Junk Mail threatening to take over your home? Get a jump on mail inflow with these 3 simple steps! #31Days2GetOrganized2018 #ItsAllTooMuch #NewYearsResolution #DeclutterAndOrganize #GetToIt #MailClutter #JunkMail #MailNeedsAHome I reduced a lot of my mail by sending back to whomever sent me the mail using the postage paid envelope in it. For example, credit card offers. I stuff the blank application, the disclaimer insert, AND the original envelope into the SASE and drop it in the mail. A couple weeks of this and I NEVER get offers from them again. I no longer receive prescreened cc or insurance offers. After the Equifax breech that did end up affecting my info (not H), I opted out of everything and locked my credit reports. If you are wanting to opt out of the prescreened junk, you can either do it for 5 years or permanently. Permanently does require you to print the form and mail it in, which is what I did. www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t

I'm still alive! Whew, I am now on day 10 of this sickness, but I am finally not feeling like I am on the brink of death anymore. Needless to say, decluttering came to a halt this past week. I never went to a doctor, because everyone with similar symptoms that had gone, had all been told the same thing "you just have to ride this out." So, i wasn't wasting my time or money. My sister works for a cardiologist so she picked his brain- he said it definitely sounds like I got the flu going around. Average infection time 6-14 days. I had my flu shot, but the major infector this season is not covered by it- LUCKY ME. Knock on wood, my H has managed to stay healthy and has been a huge help here. Both kids have been feverish/lethargic off and on for 2 weeks now. I pray we are on the tail end of the sickies and can get back to normal living here.

debthaven , It may be too late for something like this but, I keep DS's stuff in a storage bin like this: (disclaimer: this is a pinterest photo and not my actual child) I have 2 hanging folders for each school year. The front of the first one has the grade, his school picture, and a few "about me" questions for that age.

Sorry to hear you're sick nikiz628 . If it's the same stuff I had, it could stick with you awhile. Get plenty of rest! The last of the siding guys left around 7 pm. The house is not completed yet, but the outside is "covered". We're getting what we call a "Lake Superior mist" right now, when it's raining so lightly that you can barely see it, or feel it touch your skin. No working shower yet either, but hopefully tomorrow both the siding and the shower should be done. The blessing is, the big sNOw has moved, so the heavier stuff is supposed to hit South & East of here. I'm so tired. What is it about listening to hammering, & other loud sounds all day that wears you out? One more day. I can do this. Whatever it is, it seems to have settled into my chest. Cue all sorts of coughing that is really starting to hurt. My voice is in and out too- which is great fun for this mama.

I didn't end up starting my photo organizing- but I did get my new address book in the mail! So, I worked under my heating blanket last night, on condensing 3 different books into one, organized and updated address book!
Tossed the old 2, so that brings my count to 129/2,018!

Ugh! My CC has a balance that I'm not going to be able to pay off before the end of the month. Grrr! Accrued interest for the first time in six months. Just look at it as a small speed bump and keep chugging forward! 1 month of accrued interest in 6 months is a pretty good streak! You will get back to having it paid off!
