DH and I are expecting baby #2 in December, a little girl. I'm working on making sure we have enough to cover out-of-pocket expenses for the birth and hospital stay (should be a planned C-section). We have money in savings to buy furniture and things. And since we just had our little boy last year, we already have most of the baby "stuff". Things will get pretty nutty by the end of the year, so for now we're just enjoying the time with our little guy.
Congratulations on the sweet baby girl! Enjoy all the time with your little man this year!

DS1 went back to school today, so I am trying to get us back on that school schedule. It's amazing how quickly I forget how these days need to "run" over summer break. The TO DO list for the rest of the week will basically be me getting us back into that groove. I was not ready to share him with the education system again yet. This summer went so fast and he really didn't get to do much since he broke his femur the 1st week out of school. He is still on crutches and I am a nervous wreck about him navigating at school. We go back to the Children's Hospital on Friday for another check up. I pray this will be the final visit and he will be cleared to resume activities as normal. It's been a long summer of being a nurse/mom.

Iggy, so awful. I totally get it. NastyWoman , lol! We say that about Miss GB: "We want to see her, oh and I guess her parents." nikiz628 , do you own a power washer? What kind is it? Do you like it?
I need to be productive today. I worked at school for three hours yesterday but didn't do any housework. I was way too lazy. Off to make a plan. We do. I believe the brand is Generac and we purchased it at Menards for a decent price. I don't think we paid more than $280 for it, which concerned me at first (I was afraid it would be crappy because it was cheaper than most of the models). It's gas powered which is MUCH better than our old electric one. I am happy to report that it works great and we've used it to clean ALL THE THINGS outside this year.

Speaking of anniversaries- Somehow I missed my WIRR anniversary in June- it was a big one too! 5 years BACK at WIRR. I was here originally in 2008 (in the MPDunleavy days on MSN Money) but lost my log in info after we moved to PB and I was MIA for awhile. I hate that I lost that, but a fresh start was great too. This place may not be as busy as it used to be, but there is a lot of might in the small community. I love having this place to keep me accountable and I love the friendships I have made because of this place. I owe a lot of my financial knowledge and maturity to all of you!

UPDATE 8/1UPDATE:
2018 | START | CURRENT | GOAL | STILL NEEDED | E.F. | $760.00 | $2000.00 | $2000.00 | $0 GOAL MET | DS1'S SAVINGS | $1528.06 | $1667.54 | $1750.00 | $82.46 | DS2'S SAVINGS | $425.33 | $550.00 | $550.00 | $0 GOAL MET | DISNEY FUND | $1895.47 | $5000.00 | $5000.00 | $0 GOAL MET | TOTALS | $4608.86 | $9217.54 | $9300.00 | $82.46 |
NikiZ628 8/1/18 $9217.54 (Goal $9,300 WIRS1) Hit our biggest savings goal of the year this week!! We finally have $2000 in our E.F., and it feels so good. $40 a week will continue to be deposited in it for the rest of the year, so I need to make a new E.F. goal to reflect that. DS1's savings should hit goal next month after his birthday. We deposit any money he receives into his savings because, let's be honest, the kid DOES NOT need more toys (or whatever he would spend it on at the store). H and I are trying to get some time together to sit down for our money meeting- once we do that, we can lay out all new savings goals for the remainder of the year.

It's looking like we will FINALLY get some rain this weekend (I am currently doing all the rain dances because we need it!) I don't know how much of our outside projects we will get to work on, but I am okay if it gets us the wet stuff. Here's my list for the weekend/next week: Complete south side fence renovation- it just needs the new pickets pieced in Power wash the new inside of the fence on southside. (if you didn't catch it, we flipped the "pretty" side to the outside finally). Now I need to powerwash the ugly side which is now facing our backyard. Flip the panels on the east side of fence/replace pickets as neededClean up the driveway in front of garage Fold laundry and put it awayOrganize and label DS1's school supplies Deep clean the shower Clean bedrooms Clean bathrooms Clean kitchen Dust/Vac House MopStart end of month money to do list (balancing, evaluating budget, etc) Making good progress on this week's list so far!

Just chugging right along. We are hitting the time of year again, where it feels like I am just lighting our money on fire every payday. I am trying my best to be overly prepared for the upcoming expenses. I do this every year and expenses rarely change, but for some reason between Aug-Oct, money gets SO tight. (despite my best efforts to ease the pain on the checkbook). I reduced my payment on race 3 to free up some money. We've got until next August to pay that puppy off at 0%, so I am not worried about that one. I am still paying more than minimum on the 2 auto loans in Race2, but I reduced it $25 for the next couple months. Basically, I am watching every penny like a hawk for awhile.

I should update my total to reflect the 20 pots of paint that I dried out last week that were finally ready to toss. I will NOT be counting the books and puzzles that I'm bringing home from mom and dad's place The funeral service today was really lovely. The woman's husband has advanced Parkinson's so he is in a wheelchair but their whole family is just so sweet. She will definitely be missed. I really need to go through our paint cans and see what's dried up. I bet a lot of them are. I am glad to hear the service went well.

Goals for the weekend/next week: Finish pressure washing the fence panels Pick out a stain color Begin staining and flipping/repairing the panels (the previous owners who installed the fence put the "ugly side" of the fence on the outside and it drives me bonkers. Sure, seeing the pretty side on the inside is nice, but when you look at our backyard from the outside, its awful.)Mulch the south flower bedClear up the end of the yard so we can move the swingset/play area to its new location Mow/Weedeat the yard Trim off the suckers on my tomato plants Laundry Clean the bathrooms Clean the kitchenDust/Vac the house Clean up DS1's lego areaBills/Balance Checkbook Clean out the fridgeQuick clean up of our closet (its organized but looking sloppy from day to day life) Find a new purse Make dentist appointments for kids Book party location for DS1's birthday DS1 finish thank you cards Call AT&T re: Internet Make dinner menu/Grocery listTruckin' right along on the list this week. We've managed to flip/repair about half of our fence panels. We spent about 8 hours over the weekend doing it while the weather was less humid. We still need to go to Menards and pick out the stain color- but the newer pickets aren't going to be ready for stain anytime soon so it's not a RUSH task. As for the "find a new purse" task, you will all be proud of my nonspending/reuse. I pulled an old Coach bag out of the closet while I was straightening up in there and decided to use it instead of buying another bag. Bonus that it fits my Happy Planner in it, so I can actually carry it around with me again!

so I'm definitely down at least 2 weeks if not 3 (started the new job on the 18th and don't think I've paid myself since then) and I surprisingly won $100 on an impulse scratch card buy when I stopped for an iced coffee at lunch after letting out my pups today. I cashed it in a little while ago when I stopped for a pizza after tiring out the pups at the dog park, and deliberately took a large bill. I need to look at the remaining cards and figure out what larger cards I can knock out with that, but the $100 bill is already in the jar. Amazing luck! I never win on scratch offs (though I rarely buy them so that could be why!) I always joke with H that I am going to scratch one of them off at some point and it's going to say I owe THEM money lol

All this shredding talk really makes me want to buy a paper shredder...... Like plugginaway22, we usually burn papers in our firepit, but it's a pain in the hindparts. I'd much rather shred and compost or recycle. Any recs on an inexpensive/smaller shredder??

How are your de-cluttering and organizational goals going?
What's helped you make progress? What's hindered you?
Do you want to adjust your goals at this point in the year?
I really hit the ground running at the beginning of the year. I purged a lot from every room in the house. It's slowed a lot since then, partly because I have finished the "big sweeps" and partly because I just haven't felt the need to purge more at this point. I still need to do my basement and finish our garage, but I am limited on access to work with DS1's broken femur/care taking up a lot of my time.
I don't think I will hit the 2,018 items but I will keep the goal to see where I get.

I've spent the day cleaning the house, so that it will just be done for the week (minus, every day pick ups). I am also washing all of our bedding today, so that will be nice when it's finished. Goals for this week: Hang the last piece of drywall in the old bathroom Tape/Mud drywall Sand Drywall Paint the wall Pick up supplies from Menards to build the new bathroom vanity/counter and shelves Build the vanity/Stain it Balance checkbook Bills/Budget WorkGrocery List/Meal Plan for the week Go to the grocery store Clean my makeup brushes (so overdue)Get old dryer out of basement and haul to scrapyard Start planning south side of house flower bedNot too bad for such a quick week (did anyone else think this week FLEW by?). I didn't just get the south side flower bed planned, I actually got it cleared, fabric'd, and planted. I just need to spread the mulch and it's finished!

NikiZ628 6/26/18 $9080.74 (Goal $9,300 WIRS1)
I am *this* close to hitting the goal for my E.F., in fact I will hit it next month for sure ($40 is auto added each Friday). DS1's savings will probably sit until his birthday. We will deposit any birthday money he gets in September into this account. Hopefully, it will hit the goal with that, if not, I will make up the difference. I am working on some new goals for the 2nd half of the year, to keep me motivated!

bean29- I am sorry for your loss and double sorry your SIL couldn't even muster up a thank you for your diligent work. To answer your question, we have done all of our renovations. We started the big stuff in July 2016. We added on to our previously 2bd/1ba house. We now have a 3 bed/2ba house with an attic conversion to a bonus room (in the works). The addition is finished, the last project we had in it was the new bathroom. We finished it at the beginning of this year. But we are currently converting our old bathroom into a bathroom/laundry room, so that the laundry would no longer be in the damp basement. It's almost finished, the wall work and adding in a vanity/sink are about the last things it needs (and trim and a door). Once we finish that, we can finally tackle that attic conversion- which will be the most work we've had to do since we started all these shenanigans. I am really proud of what we've accomplished, H and I. We are pretty much self taught (thank you YouTube!), so it makes it that much more special to us. However, I am so ready to be finished with all of it, and we will NEVER tackle a big project like this by ourselves again.

I'll be back on Friday with my monthly update, but this month there won't be much progress, if any. I had a quarterly expense this month, and my granddaughter is getting married this afternoon!!Congratulations to your granddaughter! Best wishes to the happy couple!

I spent an hour today scanning my uncle's photographs. I know mom didn't do it with all of her photos and neither have I, but I wish people would have put names and dates on photos. My uncle told me to put names and dates when I figured them out. How am I supposed to figure out who is in the photos that nobody except his family has seen since the 1940's? There are 4 siblings left. Dad can't help--or maybe he can. He seems to remember things from back then. One is the uncle who loaned me the photos. He doesn't know who is in the photos. I don't live near the other aunt and uncle. Hoping cousins on Facebook can be of some help. I am going to be concentrating on the scanning so I can get the two photo albums back to this uncle at the next funeral. He was really on my case about it at my aunt's funeral, yet my cousin had the photos for over 2 years and didn't know how to scan the photos. So I am supposed to have done it in 6 weeks. Maybe if you post the unknown photos on fb and tag your cousins or other family- they can help fill in some missing pieces?

Definitely did not get the shower ready for water proofing tonight. Would have been a better use of my time than most of this afternoon but I’ve got tomorrow mostly free. There has been a lot more business type work required lately so I’m focused to keep on top of that. Thankfully, my newest client is super happy with the work I’ve been doing and that’s good. I’m going to the mountains for a week and just starting to think about what I need to bring in terms of food, clothes and stuff for the dogs. I have less than 4 weeks to finish the first draft of my book manuscript! That sounds like a fun trip!

A little momentum has built up. Got rid of two huge stacks of cardboard boxes, broken down for recycling, a large container of plastic also for recycling, and five bags of trash. Moved things with utility to where they belonged, not the Florida room. Plus gave away several items we. just. don't. need. Winter coats in dryer or at dry cleaner's. Whee! Way to go!

Indiana feels like the surface of the sun today, so outdoor projects are off the list. (at least until dusk) We are finally getting back to working on our old bathroom that we have converted into a full bath/laundry room. We kind of put the brakes on all of our home projects right before we left for Disney. And with DS1 fracturing his femur shortly after returning, everything has been on hold. H is currently in the room cutting out the drywall that needs removed and replaced. We had removed the medicine cabinet and will not be putting one back in. It was recessed, so we have to cut out and patch up that area of the wall. I didn't miss working on the home projects. It's been a long two years of reno here. But, I will be glad to put this room to bed and plan out our attic reno. I am trying to decide if I want to go down and work a little in the basement today. The kids are both occupied, my to do list is as caught up as its going to be for now...... I just don't know if the motivation is there.

I ended up participating in the yard sale and it went pretty well. DS1 is getting better in his wheelchair and I think he enjoyed getting out of the house for a little bit Friday during the sale. I only made about $70-$80, but considering most of my items were priced under $1, I unloaded a ton of stuff. I only came back with 1 box and 2 totes- mostly baby clothes which I can sell on fb. I was very pleased. I am working on my goals for this week, now that things are kinda settling down after DS1's injury.

Well our yard sale was postponed because DS1 managed to fracture his femur during baseball camp Thursday. Thankfully, it was just a spiral fracture and it didn't destabilize, so he didn't require surgery. But we're looking at 6-8 weeks in a full leg cast. No weight bearing whatsoever, so we are carrying him or pushing him in a wheelchair. My mom wants to do the yard sale this weekend, but I just don't know if I am going to be able to participate at this point. The majority of my stuff is priced, so realistically she can just run the sale and give me $$ for what sells (although, that makes me nervous, I am very anal about BEING at the sale for negotiators, etc.). Idk, everything is in "we will play it by ear" mode right now..... Oh No! Sorry to hear about your DS1's fracture. How old is he? How well set up is your house for this? We live in a ranch - so we could manage...last house was a bi-level, and you had to go up or down a flight of stairs when you came in the front door. My Dad was having mobility issues, so we only lived there a total of I think 3 years - I spent a good year looking at models/houses for sale and we bought a lot and built the current house. It has been a long time since I did a rummage sale, and I have never made a ton of $$ on one. If your
He is 7. We live in a 1 story bungalow type home (that we added on to). Everything is pretty open and easily maneuverable. He has been camped on the couch in the living room since we got back from the ER. They gave us a urinal for him to pee in, so he doesn't have to get up every time he has to go. The wheelchair we got is kid sized and rolls pretty well throughout the house. The biggest hurdle is getting it off the porch or deck- if I am by myself I am going to have to take the chair outside to flat ground and carry him out to it. The 2nd hurdle will be the car. We have an Acadia with middle captains seats. I think one can completely come out, to allow for more floor room. If this is the case, we can remove it and move his seat to the 3rd row. It would give him plenty of leg room and we could easily rig something up to allow him to rest his foot on something. We haven't actually gone out to the car to make the adjustments because we haven't needed to GO anywhere yet.
