Puttering along. H FINALLY sent his invoice for the big side job he has been working on. His last bit of work there got super delayed because the poor contractor was having a heckuva time finding subcontractors for painting and flooring. I think he ended up doing a lot of it himself. H emailed the invoice to the homeowner today, so hopefully that check is signed FAST. I think I will breathe a lot easier once that comes. We are getting a small tax refund this year, which is much nicer than owing $6000 last year. It's estimated at $2,350. We haven't finalized a plan for that yet. I am just getting antsy to make a real dent in this debt. It's disheartening every payday to pay the regular bills and be like "hey, we're doing good!"....and then the debt payments get scheduled and we are broke until next pay day. We did it to ourselves but ugghhhhh. I know it could be so much worse but I am ready for some relief.

Everyone is doing so well! It's always an inspiration when I get caught up on posts. We have officially entered our "crazy season" of the year- running the local little league is in full swing for H and I /baseball practices and games are in full swing for the kids. I'm kinda kicking myself because I didn't accomplish much on my spring to do list before this all whirled in. But at the same time, I knew it was on the horizon and I really enjoyed a lot of doing nothing while we could. C'est la vie. I do have things pretty well organized on the schedule/meal planning/day to day front of things. I am hoping that will keep me from losing my everloving mind as we get farther into the season. We don't have another free weekend until Mother's Day- and then after that it won't be until mid July. ETA: I did finally empty the back of my van! I've had like 10 bags of clothing for our free used clothing closet riding around back there since Christmas

Coming up from lice land. I think we have eradicated the disgusting critters from our home and heads lol. If I never see my laundry room or vacuum again, I won't be sad. NOW I can return to my previous goal of bagging up clothing to take and sell. My kiddos start spring break after this week, and we have no plans to travel, so we will have several free days to be productive.

Welp, my house is getting an unexpected extra deep clean this weekend... There is a lice outbreak at DS2's school (where I sub several days a week). I thought we would avoid it because he's a boy with short, fine hair. Spoiler Alert: we did not, in fact, avoid it. My friend texted me in a panic last night that she had found bugs in her sons hair so I was like, let's go ahead and check DS2 just to be safe. A few moments in and I found the first bug. We immediately went to get NIX and treat him and started the painful process of bagging all the plush toys, vacuuming all the things, and the laundry pile in my laundry room right now is a mountain. My sister, bless her heart, came over last night at 10 p.m. to check my hair, my husbands eyes suck and honestly he has no clue what he's looking for. I have about 10 lbs of hair on my head too. I almost died when she walked in my door with a shower cap over her head haha. She spent quite a while in my hair and didn't find anything, but we went ahead and treated my hair as well since I am in that building. They really just need to shut the school down for a day or 2 and fumigate. They said they have a company arranged to come, but it wont be for a couple weeks. I fear by then, this might get out of control. So, keep me in your thoughts over the weekend as I battle these nasty little buggers for the first time as a parent.

My goal for this weekend is to start moving the items I've purged and stuck in the garage. The garage is too full at this point. I want to get the good clothes to take to see if I can sell them at Platos/Once Upon a Child. I have a few bags I know just need to go to Goodwill. And I need to start listing items to sell on Facebook or to offer up for free on our area Buy Nothing group. I would love to have this process completely finished by the end of the school year (it's a lot of stuff!)

Our area finally got an upgrade with fiber internet. Our neighborhood was one of the first that were able to have it installed. We jumped on it, because AT&T here is just HORRIBLE. It made our internet bill increase $20 more than what we currently pay BUT we were able to cancel AT&T internet and DIRECTV which will save us $237 a month moving forward. We were "legacy customers" with Direct, but they just couldn't get us a deal worth keeping it anymore. Our next step is to determine which subscriptions we keep for streaming services. It's so easy to just put those on autopilot and forget about them. It's also been a pretty substantial amount of time since I've priced home and auto insurance, so that's on my to do list too. And update on the sidehustle money my H is waiting on...still waiting. He has to get back into the house and finish the last bit of the install, but cannot until the painting is done. Then the homeowner will cut him the check. The homeowner is EXTREMELY wealthy and is adding a massive addition to his home, including a finished basement. Like the addition is larger than my current home lol. H has done all the wiring for the sound systems/internet etc. We really like this guy, he "hires" my husband for a some kind of job at least once a year. Last year? He needed outdoor speakers, tv, surround sound, the works by his pool and patio. They have such a rough home life.. I wish there competition to AT&T here in my neck of Indy. Heck, I can't even get Verizon. I pay just under $100/mo but that includes a VOIP line. As for streaming, a random suggestion: Cancel ALL of them and see what you do with your time instead. Do it for a month. As for insurance, I went through Wenclewisz and let them do all the legwork for me on both home and auto. They saved me $300/yr three years ago. If I already shared that, sorry for the repeat. If you'd like a referral to them--I think there is a drawing for customers who provide referrals--I'm happy to send you my real name to use for it. Im really surprised you don't have more options. (I am just north of Terre Haute).

You aren't a horrid person, it's a valid question! He's in a travel league because he has aged out of Little League baseball in our area. He is in 7th grade and our middle school baseball program is not school affiliated, which means it changes hands every season and is kind of a hot mess. He does intend to play that, but it will only be a couple weeks long. He's played on this travel team since he was 10. Baseball is his main sport and he has high goals to play in college. It's honestly the only sport we pay for that he is involved in (school basketball and football are free, minus like shoes he would need). And the team he is on has some of the lowest fees in the state. We also only travel within Indiana, minus the one Florida tournament. Most tournaments are within an hour of our house, so hotels and things like that are not necessary. My 2nd son, who is in 2nd grade, only plays league baseball and he is free because my husband is the board President and I am the board PR and player agent. Our kids get to play for free. He's not our athlete by any means, he would much prefer just hanging out at home lol. Thank you for replying. I now understand about the league. For some reason I was thinking about those travel leagues that do like a insane amount of far away games. Maybe I am thinking of hockey? Or possibly soccer. Seriously crossing my fingers that the money owed your DH has finally been delivered. It is really frustrating when "I will pay you next Tuesday if I can have a hamburger today." Comes into the picture. Oh some of these travel baseball teams do that. I have friends with kids on teams that travel the entire country. I am thankful our coaches are not as "ambitious" in regards to going all over.

Sorry to hear about the kitty Rukh O'RorkeI managed to deep clean BOTH of our bathrooms Sunday. It was so nice when I was finished! I reorganized some of the drawers and added some storage (that I already owned and wasn't using) to our bath/laundry room. I can officially check both of those rooms off my 2024 deep clean to do list.

My dear you take that side hustle money and pay off the Menards card! Over 30% interest that's just egregious. Than split the remainder between the Discover and Quicksilver to get those knocked down. Or, you could put the remainder on the Best buy card to get it closer to paid off before the APR kicks in. I really don't want to be a horrid individual, but I just have to ask -- Why is your kid in a TRAVEL league? Is he getting closer to being on a team through his school? At least than you are not paying nearly as much. Unless that has changed in the last 30 years. if so than I apologize. Is your 2nd child also in a sport or are they into other things? I am only saying this due to my particular upbringing. We didn't have the money for extracurriculars so I just didn't do any as a child/teen. I knew we were not in the best financial shape my parents were up front with me about that when I asked about joining a school activity. You aren't a horrid person, it's a valid question! Not an ideal move but it at least brought us into January current and its a 0% APR card right now. Everything should start flowing in the right direction now. Still waiting on the big side hustle pay out for H, it can't get here fast enough. He's got a couple smaller payments coming his way any day as well (about $4,000 I believe). We also found out DS1's travel baseball team will be heading to Pensacola in July for a tournament. We only do one "far away" tournament a year, thankfully. Unfortunately, the coach picked a tournament that falls over 4th of July so prices on airbnb and hotels are JACKED UP. I am currently scouring the web for something that wont cost us $3,000 for a week.

H and I are ready to kick off frugal February. We tracked our spending on a printed spreadsheet we hung on our fridge in January. We didn't do as well as we had hoped, especially when it came to dining out. Reigning it in in February- new trackers have been printed and put on the fridge. Can't ignore it when its in your face every time you go in the kitchen haha.

Here we pay by per hour. The minimum is 3h/week, which is what we have. Now that the kids are gone I asked about every other week, but no such animal here. I suppose you could set it up yourself with family or friends, but frankly I'm happy with weekly cleaning. nikiz628 I remember your old posts about redoing/fixing up your house, and I remember what a fabulous organizer you are! Could offer that service as well?! Do you have a website? If not, you should start one! finnime I am both fascinated and repelled by that LOL. Thank you! I've actually considered offering organizing. Every time I am at house 3 (the small one that doesn't clean anything themselves) I have to resist the eye twitching urge to want to organize the clutter lol. No website..yet, nothing more than just posting availability on FB at this time.

Jumping in on the housecleaner discussion. As someone who cleans houses as a side hustle (I currently have 3 on rotation), I VERY MUCH appreciate when the flat surfaces are cleared off. I have 1 house that does it religiously, 1 house that does it most of the time, and 1 house that never does it. That 3rd house takes me the most time to clean and it's my smallest house. To be fair, they don't do ANY cleaning and its a borderline gag fest when I walk in, but still. Something as simple as clearing those surfaces will cut a ton of time off your cleaning service and that can add up to savings if you are paying by the hour.

Happy Monday, friends! I hope everyone has a wonderful, warm, and productive week. I just wanted to share a random tidbit that has been helping me. I saw a tiktok from an ADHD support account that had a little song with the words "Don't put it down, put it away." It was basically a reminder for those that struggle with cleaning and clutter to actually PUT the item away vs. just sitting it down in the room it goes in. I don't think you need to have a disorder to use this helpful hint, I myself do not have ADHD. But I do find myself singing it in my head when I am carrying stuff around the house now. It's been very helpful because I am definitely one that will move the items to their proper room to put away later, which just makes me have to deal with said item twice.

Sunnyday- One of my goals this year is to get my kiddo's pictures printed for them. I've diligently stored them in organized files on shutterfly for years (DS1 is 13, DS2 is 8). The only album I ever got completed is DS1s first year, so I am way behind. I ordered two of these photo boxes, 1 for each of them. I love that it has 18 containers inside- perfect for 18 years! So my plan is to print my absolute favorite pics from each year of their life to put in each of the boxes. I want to figure out some way to label the pics on the back so they know what they are from (will probably just print labels to stick on) Then they will each have just a case of photos when they move out vs. several photo albums to have to deal with. For their little newspaper clippings, awards, non photo items, etc. I have 1 tote each for them to take when they move out. What they choose to do with it after that will be on them. It's way better than the 20+ totes my mom dropped at my house when I moved out, full of albums, old schoolwork, toys, clothing, etc.

Everyone has been busy, kudos to you all! Sending warm vibes to those of you freezing- its been super cold here as well. They cancelled school Monday and Tuesday because it felt like -27 and -30. Our heat briefly went out. I woke up Monday and the house was 50 degrees. I called H and he came home to investigate. Thankfully, our exterior vent had just frozen up so it killed the airflow to the ignitor. A couple minutes with a hammer and chisel and he had that baby opened back up and the heat kicked right on. THANK GOODNESS. I kept seeing dollar signs flashing in my brain. I did manage to get all the interior Christmas decor down last week. Our prelit tree has been dead for years and I have just been stringing lights over it. This year, I apparently got a hair up my butt and decided I was going to cut the dead prelits off. It was an easy job, just time consuming. I turned on a movie and watched it while I did my surgery. By the time I was finished, I had burns on my hands- I can only assume its from whatever chemical treatment they put on artificial trees. But the tree is officially just an artificial tree now. I deep cleaned the living room the same day. I shampoo'd the area rug and the furniture, washed the walls and ceiling fan blades, took down and washed all the curtains, and then organized/decluttered the tv stand, coffee table, and cabinet. It was WONDERFUL when it was all finished. I lit a candle and curled up on the couch with my book, so that I could thoroughly enjoy my work.

This week's goal is to get the Christmas decor down. My kiddos head back to school tomorrow, which will make this much easier to accomplish. I want to go through and organize it as I put it away. I did this at the end of the season last Christmas and this Christmas me was so happy I did.

Shoutouts! nidena - Nice update, numbers went down a nice chunk! chiver78 - Almost 95% paid off! nikiz628 - You’ve got this!! Do you have a plan of attack? (FYI, you’ve had a couple restarts, this is race #7 for you.) Link to SmileysI can change it to 7. In my mind, I never finished the restarts so I just called it Race 3 every time.

H will be bringing home approx. $12,000 from a side hustle within the next month. We are discussing the best way to use this. We have a couple ideas:
1. Pay off his truck balance- currently $8,624.50 with a 4.25% APR (payment is $382 a month). Use remaining money to bump savings/pay towards smaller balances.
2. Pay off a BIG majority of our Discover card- currently $15,124.49 with a 25.99% APR (minimum payment is right around $400 a month).
He's leaning towards option 1, I on the other hand am leaning toward option 2 because the interest is killing our progress. If it was YOU- which would you choose?
nikiz628 seeing your table, I'm wondering whether it might be better to knock out Quicksilver and Menards instead, and put the rest on the Discover? But, I don't know what your minimum payments on those are. Just a thought. I am open to any and all ideas for a plan of attack with that payment when it comes lol. Minimum payments are roughly: Discover $400 Quicksilver $222 Menards $86

So far, everything that I have decluttered is in limbo in my garage. I asked H if he could set up a few tables out there so that I can sort it by sell/donate- and then get photos of the sell stuff to actually get it listed on FB. We have a lofty goal this year to get the garage back to usable space. It's been a Hoarders episode for years. We don't really need or care to park in it, but I would love to turn it into a game room/hang out of sorts for my kids to use when they have friends over. Its detached and not super close to the house, but next to our pool and outdoor bar & grill area, so I see a lot of potential in this idea. But step 1 is GET THE CRAP out.

I was here in 2008 under a different s/n. I came back in 2013 with this account. WIRR really has been a lifesaver for me.

I want to be clear about something: many years ago - what was it nidena , debthaven , Minnesotagirl7 about 15? - I found WIRR, and I learned how to really take control of my money and be honest about my debts. And I was horribly in debt at the time. I learned the term "snowball", I learned how to be practical about my bills, to stop spending more than I could afford to pay, I learned to negotiate, I buckled down and took on a second income role to help me get out of the mess. And I did.
Now here I am, years later, and while it's not the same crippling madness it once was, I know how to handle my debt. Even with all the expenses I've had the last two years, I know how to review things without panicking and find resources to take command of the situation and move forward. I've learned to breathe. And I learned it here.
To anyone new to WIRR: breathe. Relax. Learn. Be patient with yourself, and when others on the board offer advice, know that we've been through it, too, we are not trying to criticize, or make light of your situation, we're trying to offer you some practical ideas based on the experiences WE have all had. And we've had a few doozies, so - you truly are NOT alone. Ive been back here for 10 years this year, so 15 is probably very accurate.

I did a HUGE clothing clean out last January and I am pretty proud to say, I have kept my side of the closet very organized since then. I also made sure if I bought a new piece, an old piece left to make room. So, doing a reset and clean out on my clothing yesterday took less than an hour total. I got rid of several pieces that were never worn last year. Everything is neat and tidy again for another year.
I also gave my desk nook a little facelift. My desktop computer crapped out awhile back, so H found me an old one at his work that was getting tossed (he works IT for a school corp). It's in perfect condition, just surplus equipment so he cleaned it up and brought it home for me to us. Its AMAZING! I bought some peel and stick wallpaper squares at Dollar Tree and put them on the wall behind my monitor (7 total squares were needed so super cheap upgrade). I bought a new wireless keyboard and mouse with an amazon gift card (so free!) and a new cork board ($8 at walmart). The final upgrade was a clear acrylic makeup brush spinning organizer for all my colored pens that I use in my planner and what not. $9 at TJ Maxx. I am so happy with my new and functional space!

I got a jump on decluttering for the year but I need to borrow my dad's truck to get it all hauled to good will. Will call him in just a few minutes to get going on that. I'm going to really focus on my stuff, what my parents have left here, and keeping my kids on track before hounding dh on his stuff. But his stuff cannot expand either, and my patienceisnt endless. Does anyone have a pre-made bullet journal or printable bullet journal they like and would recommend? I think it depends on what you mean by bullet journal. Erin Condren and Happy Planner have great stuff that is both organized and pretty. Full Focus planner is plain but excellent regarding zeroing in on goals. I have used a Happy Planner since 2017- this is the first year I just opted for a random brand planner I found at TJMaxx instead. We shall see if I like it lol.
