Mister’s Mom is not eating again and is refusing a feeding tube. The wound is infected again. Her Doctor called Mister Saturday, I figured that was not good. Mister has a meeting at the hospital Wednesday. “They” seem to think she is giving up. I didn’t want to ask Mister too many questions, because he sounded so sad and he is at work, so I didn’t ask who “they” is. This is horrible. It's sad, but if she wants to give up, it's her prerogative.

I have learned things through the board. I fought to get them to make an exception to locking me out till 35 at UNMC. The paperwork and deadline to enroll in their retirement plan came and went when I was on maternity leave. That was five years of compounding interest I would have missed out on. I wouldn't have even really considered it if I hadn't learned about the importance of starting early here. But otherwise from a financial standpoint I am about as far away from a YM-er as you can get. Personal wise though this board has been invaluable between the kids thread, the aging thread and then everyone's support with the death of my mother. I am not sure I would have gotten through some things without the support here. I've found it incredibly helpful to be on a board where we are all in different walks of life and can offer those different perspectives. And since we are speaking of irresponsible spending I am getting a pug puppy if things work out here. Totally not something I need but I have wanted to own one again for years and this is my chance. It's money that could go somewhere else for a more noble purpose but screw it. After everything that has happened I am done with the idea of putting aside everything in the hopes that by the time I can retire I will be able to enjoy my life. Also after grandma I am fairly confident given the rate that things are evolving in this country there isn't a chance in hell I am going to out save/self insure the costs of elder care. And she denied herself everything and pinched all her pennies for what? To sit in a nursing home slowly losing her mind. Sure she is getting 18 months of private pay elder care out of it but is only having your credit score/savings to look at in the end really worth it? And she's STILL going to end up sucking up people's tax dollars in the end. I am trying to find a balance I can live with. I am going to do some things while I am still young enough and sound enough mind to do so. So what if someone else turns their nose up at what I choose to do that makes me happy. That is their problem and says more about them than it does about me. By the time I need a nursing home, I hope I qualify for MAiD.

Sorry andi I'm rooting for Cincinnati. But I know some people on this board are very happy that the Eagles won Not me! I hate the Eagles. I was really hoping SF would win as I was pretty caught up in the Brock Purdy story and was pulling for him. Whoever wins tonight, I will be their biggest fans at the SB. If the Vikings ever end up going to (and winning) a Superbowl (they've lost 4 more than 50 years ago)...I can't imagine how insane it will be here. We have been close so many times. I don't think any fans have been let down at the end as many times as we have. I like the Eagles, especially Hotel California.

I'm due at the doc in about an hour for an appt anyway. Had an episode about 20 minutes ago I have never had before. The ribs on the outside of my body hurt when I took a breath. It was pretty bad, was taking breaths but not deep ones. I had DD get dad to come upstairs. I sat down but decided to take nitroglycerin tabs, never had before. They are sublingual so took one, then another. It didn't take long for me to breath good but my ribs still hurt some. My heart doc said those pills alone will make you dizzy because they really open the blood vessels. Blood pressure 97/57, mine is low a lot, but nitro makes it go lower, so there is that. Heart rate 64, normal for me and I feel much better. However, my ribs still hurt some. That is a weird feeling. Hubs was getting ready to take me to the ER. I imagine I will end up getting some tests. Hope she will do them and not make me go in. I woke up with my L ribs hurting. Hurts to take a deep breath. Meh, probably pulled something carrying heavy groceries. I will not take nitro or go to the doctor. Nitro gives me a headache. It will pass.

Maybe they ought to require a potential nominee to take a college SAT and a LSAT test to see if they are still qualified. Take the highest score person. Maybe you should have had the presidential nominees to take a SAT and LSAT test to see if they are qualified for the poisition. I'll bet everything I have that your hero, Trump would fail. He would also fail to recognise artcles !! and V. "SAT? I know more about satellites than anybody!" You're such a hypocrite, Rip.

Went with my dad to Clarinda. A lady my mom was in contact with breeds pugs and recently contacted him about a litter. OMFG. 2 week old babies! I died I had two of them snuggled into my fake fur coat snoring away. My dad got one. Abby named him Bingo after Puppy Pals. I would have too but this litter is now spoken for. Another of her dogs will have puppies in February I told her put me on the list. Gives me time to work on DH more. This may be my one shot to own a pug again. She sells for $600. Most now sell for $1500+ I don't want two big breed dogs again and I feel if we're going to do it again getting a puppy is the right call because Charlotte will be dominant from the start. Plus now DH works from home and my commute is way shorter. We have the time to train a puppy again. I wish people would stop breedng dogs like pugs and French bulldogs. The smushed-up faces may be cute, but they usually suffer from Bracycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome, which make it hard to breathe. It's really not fair to the dogs. However, I hope you enjoy him. People will keep breeding them whether I like it or not, so I wish you many happy years with him

I can understand civil unrest when white cops kill yet another black man. When I saw pictures of the accused, I was shocked! They were all black! Why would black cops beat a black man to death? Just for the hell of it? A slow day? I don't get it.

My gastric study was normal, so sounds like just the ozempic effecting it, surprising since I've had issues forever. However, I have PA/lateral chest unchanged again hyperinflated with tiny left base calcified granuloma and minimal left base fibrosis/scarring. Remaining heart and lungs unremarkable. Bony thorax intact again with scoliosis. Probably why I can't get a deep breath, wonder what changed yesterday??And this problem is getting worse. view left and right ribs demonstrates mild/moderate double curvature thoracolumbar scoliosis, small left lung base/tiny splenic calcified granuloma, and cholecystectomy clips That must be causing me a lot of pain. Need to go to chiro again, should help, but sure grabbed me yesterday and is still a problem trying to get a deep breath. But could be so much worse, just quality of life issues, but it hurts, sigh. Weren't you washing the tops of your kitchen cabinets the day before your pain started? You could have pulled a muscle.

Yeah MIL wonders why DH is her only child that doesn't go to church regularly. The Catholic Church is responsible for the demise of the church. His regular church attendance ended with the explosion of the priests scandals. MIL doesn't like to discuss that. A priest at their church that they were friendly with and invited into their home to dinner, etc was revealed to be one of those priests. I suppose it's possible that something happened to DH but if it did that's a secret he's keeping from me. But yeah that guilt holds strong though. We were married in the church and he's become godfather to two more while we've been married. The Catholic Church was responsible for ALL aspects of life in Quebec, from health to education. Women were having litters of kids they couldn't afford to feed, but the church strongly forbade contraception. People were poor, but still had to tithe, so Quebec could build the grandest cathedrals in North America. That all ended with the Quiet Revolution, and the churches emptied out, seemingly overnight. Most of our streets are still named after saints, but very few people still go to church. Now Quebec is vehemently secular. When the pendulum swung, it didn't stop in the middle.

The Homage to the Buena Vista Social Club was excellent. It was all pure jazz, however. Not everyone's cup of tea.

I was looking for a small roast at the supermarket. DS loves roasts and pot roast. They were all $18.26, $18.55. $18.91, etc. Then I spotted one, the same size, for $8.32. It was a misprint. Naturally, I grabbed it. I was going to cook it tonight, and then I remembered that tonight is the Buena Vista Social Club show. So, tomorrow. Good score. But way too nice for your DS, given that he couldn't show up to help you when you couldn't even open a can, IMO. In his defense, he lives really far away. It's about 1.5 hours with traffic. He's not going to drive three hours to open a jar of pickles. It was just easier to ask the next door neighbours. He DID show up when I passed out on the street. The kind passers-by went through my purse and found his number. He came as soon as he could.

It’s funny (not really) you say he does not sound mentally competent, because Mister has started telling his Dad that he is incompetent given the things he does. He retired from what is considered a good job around here. At some point during his career, he went back to school for something, to get a promotion. Idk exactly what his job was, but he was using computers to do it. I honestly believe that it is what Mister’s brother called it a couple weeks ago, Mom has been Dad’s brain for years. Brother said he realized it several years ago. Dad went to work and made the money, Mom handled the logistics of everything else. He even went back to his old job for a while a few years ago, as a contractor. He’s not dumb. No, Mister and I do not have a plan for when Mom is released. She is still supposed to go to rehab when she is discharged from the hospital. I don’t know for how long, and what the plan is for after that. With the medical issues she already had, I don’t think she could’ve lived alone before all this happened, and probably won’t be able to after it’s all done. If she lived alone when she first went to the ER back in August, she probably would’ve died. I hate to say that, but it happened in the middle of the night, so who knows how long it would’ve been before someone discovered her if Dad hadn’t been there. I’ve briefly researched assisted living in the area and I kept seeing that the average cost is around $4200/month. I don’t know exactly how much their income is, but I don’t think it’s $4k/month. Mom gets disability, Dad gets a pension and SS. Idk what we can do with or about Dad in the meantime. The neurologist Mister took him to last month said there was nothing wrong with him except he tends to not listen in uncomfortable situations when someone is talking to him. Which is true. He regularly tunes Mister out, or will randomly change the subject and try to start a totally different conversation if he doesn’t want to deal with the conversation someone is trying to have with him. I have seen him do that with Mister several times. And he’s even cut me off before when I was explaining something about how we run our household. He cut me off, thinking he knew what I was about to say, and he did not. He listens only enough to get a response ready, if he listens at all. I’ve witnessed people with dementia, from beginning to end. My Aunt is in the early stages of it now, and has been for a couple of years. And her symptoms are still only that she might tell me the same thing she told me a few days ago, or sometimes, a few minutes ago. Besides that, she still functions like her normal self. Which is how it was with my Grandmother and Great Grandmother, a slow decline, starting with them repeating themselves and having issues with their memory. It got worse over some years, and they eventually started doing strange stuff, like baking a cake and using salt instead of sugar lol. My Great Grandmother did that. I’ve never seen someone decline so rapidly that they can’t function, within 6 months. I’m not a doctor, and there are billions of people in the world besides my relatives, so I guess it’s possible. But I still don’t think that’s what’s going on with Mister’s Dad. He needs/wants his other “brain” because he doesn’t want to use the one in his head. Y’all might remember how I was so sure last year that Dad had early dementia. I was fussing at Mister and asking him to have more patience with his Dad, because if he has dementia, he literally has no control over what he’s doing. Until he came to stay with us and I learned more about him. I really appreciate your concern, I’m concerned too, because I don’t want to end up being a caretaker. I’m not good at that with my own Mom, let alone someone else’s parents. Trying to figure things out for Mister’s Mom and what she will end up needing, makes sense to me. My brain can’t really make sense of the situation with Mister’s Dad, and I have no idea what to do about him. Pink, ask him to draw a clock face with the hands pointing at two o'clock. It's a measure of brain function. It's not a definitive diagnosis, but it's one of the tools doctors use to determine dementia. If his doctor didn't do that, he should have. The clock-drawing test is a quick way to screen for early dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. It involves drawing a clock on a piece of paper with numbers, clock hands, and a specific time. The inability to do so is a strong indication of mental decline. www.verywellhealth.com/the-clock-drawing-test-98619#:~:text=The%20clock%2Ddrawing%20test%20is%20a%20quick%20way%20to%20screen,strong%20indication%20of%20mental%20decline.

Pink, there is something going on with that man. He does not sound mentally competent. What kind of job did he have when working? Has he always had cognitive issues? Or perhaps his comprehension is limited. Has he had a stroke or something? I know you said he had heart issues. But just reading what you have written I cannot believe he managed to function through his life like that and held a job. So sounds like to me he has really declined. I can't believe the hospital is letting him stay there, but honestly am glad they are. It doesn't sound like his wife is going to be able to wait on him when she gets out. I don't know what your plan is, but I would sit down and make a plan or you guys will be caring for both of them. Please try and think ahead for when she is released. Or maybe you have one and I missed it. I do feel sorry for your guy, its hard to deal with our folks when they get that way. Dad died in an industrial accident 6 months before he retired. That was bad for mom, but he was already slipping and becoming paranoid, I have no idea how we would have dealt with him. Hubs dad had been mean but he mellowed as he got sick and passed away quietly at home so we were spared dealing with both of them. I think dealing with men is even harder, especially, for the sons. Dealing with the 2 ladies was hard enough. Please try to get mister to sit down and talk about what comes next. I know you are trying to stay out of it, but this is going to effect you too so it's something you guys need to discuss. I told hubs I would help but I would not take care of his mom, sure sounds mean. But I dealt with mom for years and with DD on top of that, I was not taking on another one. Also one I would not have been able to deal with. At my age, one is all I can do. Hope you guys work something out, this is one of those difficult life moments. Trump, the 43rd president of the United States, claimed victory in the Senior Club championship at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach over the weekend.
Isn't Trump the 45th POTUS?

Sitting in ER. Looks like my DH may have had a heart attack I'm sorry. However, I had two heart attacks and I'm fine now. Wishing the same for your DH.

I went for a walk, and on the way home stopped at the grocery store. I bought a gorgeous boquet of red and yellow striped tulips instead of fried chicken. I know I'll enjoy them a lot longer than the chicken. Fewer calories, too! Tomorrow....swimming!

I was definitely not part of the previous conversation but here are my thoughts. Yes, feral cats will live where there's food, be it from a bag or rodents. And they will do what feral animals do best, breed. The math is crazy because the average queen has 4 kittens per litter, mostly female, who will mate and produce their own litter at six months of age. The presence of open queens will draw toms from an amazing distance as the queens' pheromones travel on the air for a long way, up to 1/2 mile or more. Aside from any other issue, the toms spray pungent urine onto all vertical surfaces, advertising their presence and claiming turf. The hours-long howling of mating felines is impossible to sleep through. Competing toms, like many male mammals, kill kittens they don't sire so that the queen comes back into season and breeds with them, guaranteeing their gene pool survives versus their rivals. Bottom line is that the price you will pay for a few dead mice is a howling, stinking, feral colony living on your property with the attendant problem of dead and dying kittens. Some people establish a TNR colony by Trapping, Neutering and Releasing the cats. They will stay with you as long as you provide food, water and shelter, but they can't breed. I have no skin in your game, but these are some facts you can give Mister if you wish. Maybe I should screenshot this and let Mister read it lol. Even though I didn’t remember why, I did always remember that the posters here said not to feed them, and I never did. Maybe if I just tell him we could end up with a million cats running around our property, and he’ll have to take care of some dead cat bodies, it will convince him that it’s a bad idea. I feed them. It's bad enough that they're so very cold here, but cold and hungry is more than I could stomach. You're a dog person. How would you feel about hungry dogs outside while yours are well-fed and well-dressed? Picture Boy living outside, scrounging for small scraps and never getting a kind word from anyone.

I gained a good 10 pounds since my foraminal injections in my spine...they didn't work. I haven't been able to walk like I used to due to pain. Now I'm swimming at the new sports complex a block away. There's no weight-bearing on my poor joints.

We had an arborist trim our big pecan tree a couple years ago. It needs trimming again, because some of the higher branches are on the roof and providing an easy path for damn squirrels to get on the roof again. I took the advice of someone here, I don’t remember which poster it was, but they told me that having a knowledgeable arborist determine how best to trim the tree vs someone that will just trim trees however you ask them to, is like having a professional hairstylist cut your hair s letting your sister do it. And whoever said that was absolutely correct. The first quote we got was from someone that when he described what he would do, would’ve left the tree lopsided, and he felt like that was okay because at least if it fell, it would likely fall away from the house. The company we ended up hiring after having 3 companies look at it, didn’t charge much more than the first quote, but after the work was done, it was obvious that they knew what they were doing because the tree was still balanced, and the canopy was opened some, so more sunlight would reach the ground under the tree. We will have the same company come trim it again. They might not actually do the work until fall though, like they did last time, even though we initially contacted them that spring or summer. I got the impression that their professional opinion was that it was better to wait until early fall to trim a pecan tree. But that was just an impression I got, and not necessarily true. But this time it’s not only our pecan tree in the back yard, but also a tree on the side of the house that needs attention because it has limbs resting on our roof now. That tree is along the property line where the side of our yard meets our neighbor’s backyard whose house is on the big street that our cove is off of. On the other side of our house from Mr. and Mrs. T. We are pretty sure it’s the neighbor’s tree, but as far as I know, we have the right to have it trimmed to protect our own property (house), as long as we don’t damage the tree. Those neighbors are cordial, but that’s it. They aren’t exactly friendly and don’t seem to want to be bothered with neighbors. Which sucks Imo, because I am curious about them and would like to get to know them. The wife is white, the husband is Black, with what I think is a British accent, and they bought that huge house back when interracial marriages were still pretty much taboo. Idk if they have children, or even good friends….. I have NEVER seen any cars at their house other than theirs. Mister calls them “the serial killers” because besides occasionally seeing them come home, we only ever see them sometimes when they are working in their yards and they both wear blue jumpsuits then, like Jason or somebody from one of the horror movies I’ve never watched lol. The only reason I know the husband is not from America and has an accent, is because our first summer here, one day when they were working in their yard, I went over to ask if they could show me the property lines so we wouldn’t intrude in their space. The husband referred me to the wife, who took me back and showed me the marker that separates our properties in our backyard and gave me the general idea of how it runs along the side of our house where it meets their back yard. That is literally the only conversation that has happened with them, and this summer, it will be 4 years that we’ve lived here. Anyway, Mister commits what is probably akin to Crape Murder every year on our crape myrtle trees. He’s done some research to at least halfway know what he’s doing when he trims them, so he’s probably doing it right, and I’m just joking. 2 of them had whatever has become a more common disease/problem with them that turns the bark black. Mister researched it and bought some stuff, and did some stuff, that looks like it worked. IMHO the best time to trim a tree so it's not in contact with your roof is NOW. Maybe some folks want to wait until the fall for a pecan tree so they can harvest the nuts first, but you can buy a lot of pecans for the price of potential roof damage. I don't know about your state law, but Texas does allow us to trim overhanging branches of a neighbor's tree back to our property line, but with the proviso that we could be liable for the death of the tree. It's really hard to kill an established tree. I'm grateful that Mister is trying to learn how to trim crape myrtles rather than commit Crape Murder. We've had some struggles here in our community between people of color who identify as American and those who immigrated from other areas like Britain, Haiti or Jamaica. I've listened to the voices of both sides but, as an American-born white (1/2 Hispanic) woman, I can't fully appreciate the nuances of the discussion. Not really. Just hammer some copper nails into it. Copper kills trees.

I was up until past 4 AM dealing with grief. Now I am playing Croz music. My 1099R for my annuity was available this morning so I checked the numbers against my numbers and theirs are correct. So tax return is filed. Last night before I got too tired to do anything with money, I booked my flight for Joni Mitchell. I also booked a trip with a genealogist for 3 days at the Allen County Genealogy Center in Fort Wayne. That includes consultations with him, which is what I have been lacking. Probably going to take one last trip to the town in Ohio and then come home. My head is still not in a good place. We have a basketball game at 1 PM today. Guessing there will be lots of screaming kids there. We have to keep winning to stay ranked. I was listening to Croz last night, and then I got sucked into the music of that era....Pete Seger, Buffalo Springfield, Blind Faith, etc. Now, THAT was music!

I received a concert offer I couldn't refuse yesterday. I am going to see Joni Mitchell at the Gorge in Washington State. Got a lesson in see them while you can with older people. I heard on the radio and see online that my man, David Crosby, died today. I am heartbroken, if it is true. It was first reported by Yahoo Finance, which doesn't make sense, and the other stories have the same wording. Happy I had the opportunity to know his music and know him a little bit. Would you believe I have never seen a concert at Red Rocks? Because I'm going to cry if it's true Croz is gone, I have the Chris Street Documentary on. Star University of Iowa basketball player who died 30 years ago today and the documentary is heartbreaking. Looks like it's true. He was 81.

He wants his burgers with buns not bread.
So do I. If it's on bread, it's a sandwich, not a burger.

I miss all the beef and pork specialty meats. I can get them at Odon and they are cheap there. But they go fast so need to order ahead of time. It's kind of funny how "specialty meats" become fashionable. Liver used to be cheap until it became popular as a good source of iron. Then it got respectable. Beef cheeks also became popular in restaurants every time the price of meat started to go up. Lately I find the price of collard greens going up and the size of the bunches getting smaller. It used to be food for poor people. Not anymore. Giblets used to be very, very cheap. Now the price is comparable to steak. Ridiculous!

I really like tongue, but just boiled, peeled, and sliced, so good. Mom would boil the head of the pig and pick the meat off, so heavy in meat, but she didn't put tongue in it. We kept that for separate eating. I miss all the beef and pork specialty meats. I can get them at Odon and they are cheap there. But they go fast so need to order ahead of time. You woud love sisig, a sizzling Filipino dish made from a pig's face. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SisigIt is commonly accepted that the use of the pig's head in the dish came from the excess meat from the commissaries of Clark Air Base in Angeles City.[7] Pig heads were purchased cheap (or free) since they were not used in preparing meals for the U.S. Air Force personnel stationed there during the American Occupation of Luzon and Visayas.

I like turkey necks and chicken feet, can't find them anymore. Can get some smoked hocks or necks but I want fresh. The molded food looked like what mom used to make and it was called head cheese, but it had more meat in it.I need to go to town and take a death certificate to the bank for MIL to close and remit that Miller Trust money. Then get hubs some yogurt. I'm going to come home and start cleaning and reorganizing kitchen cabinets. My countertop is overflowing again. Also may bake a pineapple upside down cake for hubs and DD. Last night the kitties were both trying to take up my lap, they are big now and hard for them to do. They are jealous of each other, one gets up there than here comes the other, they both want to be there. After awhile with both of them laying on my lap, they sure get heavy. Spoiled rotten kitty cats. I love them both. Ok, beyond time to get busy. Hubs is pounding and nailing downstairs. He is adding receptacles and moving lights to make sure we have fixtures in the storage areas. So fortunate to have this guy and I appreciate him. As he says stay or go, it will add value to this house and he is correct, it will. This summer he plans to do some fixing on the old truck, the boat, and maybe the back hoe and sell them, and to sell another rental. And we are both going to continue to reduce "stuff" here. I am bad about keeping things. Nothing that will be used again, but just hate to get rid of it. And we will get little grandson if he wants to come. The Eastern European markets here sell head cheese. It's not the same. Head cheese has a lot of tongue in it.

The biggest one was the chef uses trotters (or pig feet) in the chicken stock. The body this gave the broth was incredible from the gelatin in it. Now I need to find out who sells them at home! The meal was a chicken ramen soup, green curry mussels with rice and strawberry donuts. It was so good, now I’m stuffed. When I got back to the room, there was a tray sitting on our table. Yesterday, we were talking to the restaurant manager about a flourless chocolate torte, and they made us one! TD ate most, but I had a bite. It was very, very good. Very helpful for me, thank you. I make my bone broth every week for my joints, and gelatinous works best. I've had success with chicken parts, but struggle with beef - might try pigs feet with it. My mom would make a Ukranian dish called kholodetz. It's basically pork jello. She would boil pig trotters or knuckles for hours, with carrots and spices. You eat it with horseradish. Delicious, but most people are grossed out at the thought of pig's feet. I haven't had any in a really long time. Those things have a lot of collagen in them.
