My cat was done, so I left work early and will finish out at home, it's getting really nasty out there. I was only gone a couple hours but can't see where I drove out the driveway earlier. I was hoping I could take a long lunch and work on the 6 inches or so that came down last night before round 2 hit, but that ain't happening now. It's snowing hard and very windy. It will all have to wait until tomorrow.
Cat is "probably ok". They gave him fluids and he's on a 48 hour watch in a locked room with a private litter box so I can see if he goes. There was one borderline obstruction, but it was to a point where the vet thought it would make it through on it's own. If he's not better by Friday they want him back in for more xrays.
Do you know what he ate that was styrofoam?

Just finished running inside and locking the back door. Managed not to scream like a girl though. All outdoor activities are cancelled indefinitely. One of those slithery reptile things was in the back yard. Right by the back porch. Noped right out of that. Although, I have no idea why I seem to think locking the back door will do anything. Are you talking about lizards? They're adorable!

We are Russian Orthodox and as mentioned the casket is open for viewing, touching and kissing. When our 12 yo son died we asked for a closed casket, but family and priest forced us to go along with tradition. I block that picture out of my head and remember his smiling face in a picture we have hanging on our wall. I'm so sorry, Ken. I said "screw tradition!" from a very early age. My parents didn't like it....tradition was all that mattered. If they were still alive, I wonder what they would think of Kyrill the Maniac.

I went hiking with a friend today and came back to a house with no electricity. So I did what any well thinking person would do: I took a 3 hour nap. But here I am, still no electricity, no internet, no heat, nothing and it is almost 8pm, posting from my phone. At least that still works and my tablet is charged so I can also read but am I ever glad I was not born 100 years earlier... Do you know why? Any word on when the power is coming back?

When Pink said 'around the casket, I imagined ropes being 'literally around the casket", as in tied aroud the casket. as in preventing escape from the casket. I've never seen ropes around a casket before. Is it a cultural incongruity, or do I watch too many horror movies?

My family used to take pictures of the body in the casket. My mother told me it was so they could send the picture to family still in Europe. It freaked me out when I was a young child and found the picture of my cousin who died as baby before I was born. OMG! um, I'm so sorry. I'd still be freaking out. also, if you haven't already seen the movie "The Others" then please don't. b/c I don't think you'd enjoy it. My parents made me kiss my dead godfather. I had nightmiares about it for a very long time. i was seven.

My religion encourages people to KISS the body! It was like kissing a pot roast straight out of the fridge. I'm not religeous anymore. That's why I told my sis and BIL to burn me immediately after death. I don't want people standing around and boo hoo hooing over my body for THREE DAYS in the church. I think the founder of the Russian Orthodox religion had OCD. The current leader of the Russian Orthodox Church is a maniac. He promises that young men who go to war, killing innocent civilians in Ukraine,, will go to heaven.

Iowa high schools, etc. can't pivot to online learning because the Governor said those days don't count as a school day. That means they are forced to close when the weather is bad. Pink Cashmere I think like someone else said, Mister feels he can be what he is feeling around you. No he should treat you badly, but I've seen some real sh*t go down at funerals in my huge family. This is hard for everyone and it's been a long process to get to this point. Weltz, in this area ropes are put up near the casket to keep people from getting too close and touching the body. Pink, just keep breathing and taking one step after the other. It will all be over soon. What people are wearing, the music, the food, the tables.,,....none of it matters to Mister's Mom anymore. None of it. The rest is all bickering and histrionics by flawed people. You are above all that. Let it go.

He wanted to know if he could touch her. The funeral home lady undid the rope around the casket so he could touch her.
Rope? What rope? Is this a southern thing? Were they afraid she'd climb out?

My memory is shot! What's the name of that site that has free shipping, but you have to put together most things yourself? Not IKEA. Wayfair or Overstock maybe? Wayfair! It's been driving me nuts that I coudln't rememver! Thank you! I was thinking of getting a new 6x4 rug for the living room. I also gave a huge Oriental one in here. It's a big living room.

Weltz, how is the burn? I hope its not blistering. Up to haul some stuff to the blessing box. I have some litter box liners, some food, plastic containers, odds and ends. Then to town to pick up a few things and drop off some clothing. I have cleaned up 2 rooms down there. There are 7 rooms in the basement. The bedroom just needs dusted and mopped, hubs moved a lot of stuff in it to get it out of the way so he can lay the framing for the wall on the floor. I got rid of lots of Christmas stuff last year, may do it again, but that room isn't dirty either. I vacuum down there occasionally and since it's a fairly new house its not dirty. We have decided this summer or fall to have a sale. We have tons of stuff to good to give away and if we get a few dollars out of it will be worth it. No matter stay or go going to downsize all this stuff. There will be a day we have to move and there iis so much we don't use anymore. I'm going to bite the bullet and get rid of most of the clothing down there. I want this house to be easier to clean and take care of. Clutter doesn't help. The upstairs is in pretty good condition. We decluttered when we did the hardwood flooring. Hubs is finally considering paying more for a house up there and paying it off when we sell this. We could handle payments for maybe a year or so. I told him, he has to, to get anythng decent that we don't have to rework and spent $100k or more repairing. I'm sort of giggling right now because this sort of proves the old aphorism "everything is relative". My whole house only has 7 rooms Best wishes for a successful sale - your discards may be a real blessing for others in the community. And the value will be doubled when you don't have to spend as much to move stuff to Washington. My entire apartment is 4 rooms.

I'm sorry about the body, weltschmerz. To be honest, the posting here has become so prolific that I start on the last page most of the time. I back up when necessary, but sometimes I miss stuff.Turns out, the body was a woman's. She jumped holding flowers. That is so sad, Welts It made me sad, too. I wonder what kind of hell she was going through. Depression? A lot of physical pain? Did her husband just leave her for a younger woman? Was she refused Maid, Medical Assistance in Dying? I guess we'll never know.

It was prerry bad initially, but disappeared with the aloe. If you have stuff too good to give away, put it on Craigslist or something similar. You'll reach a much wider audience. A garage sale out in the boonies will not attract a lot of people.

Sushi is SUCH a good boy! He knows he's not supposed to puke on the carpet, so he puked in my shoe. Yuck, do you think you'll be able to clean the shoe up enough? I cleaned it up and its OK now.

What are aviations and did you smoke pot? That will definitely relax you. Aviation - gin, lemon juice, creme de Violette, and maraschino liqueur. It's delightful. And yes. I'm not much of a drinker, but it does sound delightful. Good for you! I'm a huge proponent of using pot for what ails you.

After breakfast I wiped down the kitchen and mopped the kitchen floor before buzzing through Aldi. I played slug this afternoon and watched the latest Episode of 90 Day Fiancée-The Other Way. Tomorrow is dusting and work on the book. Tomorrow night is a great wine dinner. The weather looks great next weekend so I'm going to plan a lot of yard tasks for then which has me second-guessing my plan to make caldo de res on Saturday. Something tells me I'm not going to feel like hours of chopping veggies and simmering beef shanks after a day in the yard. I'll probably flip this with Friday's plan of baked tilapia and some sort of veggie. Do you watch the pneumatic Darcy and Stacy? They look like cartoon characters.

Good morning (for the next hour)! I am so glad I take Presidents Day off. We used to get this as a paid holiday but it was converted to a float day of our choice, so I now take PTO for PD because I'm used to a February day off. I need at least one day off a month to keep me going! A guidance counselor friend is off as well so we will be getting together for lunch. I ended up taking a half day of work on Friday to help my mom and one of my aunts with my grandmom. She (grandmom) was hospitalized last July with cellulitis, caught Covid while there, and was finally discharged to rehab after an additional 10 days in the hospital. She was finally discharged in mid-August, on my mom's 70th birthday, and my mom and two aunts have been taking care of her ever since. Happy fucking birthday mom. Grandmom is 94 and needs two people to assist her with the commode, so my sister and I helped this weekend while my one aunt was out of state for her grandson's first birthday. This whole thing is not sustainable. It's an awful life for my mom and aunts. Everyone is stressed out and on short fuses. Grandmom wasn't doing too well when she was released from rehab and she was put under hospice care but I don't think she's going anywhere anytime soon. I got home Saturday around 5 and my weekend turned right around for the better. Husband was excited for me to be home and we just spent a needed lazy evening on couch. Between a council meeting, the county Dems endorsement convention, and helping with grandmom, I feel like I was barely home this week. I made a couple of aviations and smoked a bit. Good relaxation. Yesterday we went for a nice little hike and then did some bare minimum cleaning around the house. What are aviations and did you smoke pot? That will definitely relax you.

I have gone by a house 2 or 3 miles from us quite a few times a week. Over the last 3 or 4 months there have been 3 different poor little dogs tied in the yard. They have a plastic dog house that is turned over or apart. I've never seen water or food out there that wasn't turned over. About the time I am going to report them the animals are gone. I think they have starved or frozen to death. I had to start driving out another direction as I couldn't stand it. I would wake up in the night worrying about those poor things. Well, it's only been about 2 weeks and the latest little dog is gone too, but this time the dog house is. I hope someone else saw it and reported them. I don't know what they can do with a house out there and turned over containers, so maybe it just died. It was curled up in the yard in 24 degree weather. Hubs said if I saw it someone else has likely reported them too. It should not be that way, they bought the house last year, have remodeled it, I think have several kids and no signs of being poor. Probably put the responsibility on the kids and then didn't make sure they were taken care of is my guess. I pray there are no more dogs the, please. My babies were always treated so well, I just can't understand not caring for these wonderful little creatures. Did you report it?

Cut off a piece of leaf from the plant then slice it legthwise. I just apply the wet side to the burn. If you have a plant with big leaves, you can slice it lengthwise, and scoop all the goodness out with a spoon. However you apply it, it will do its magic. I love aloe plants but haven't had one in a while. My son's cat kept trying to eat the last one! I hope your burn is better in the morning. Thanks. Really? Aloe plants are incredibly bitter. However, every kitchen should have one for burns and cuts

I splled boiling water on my foot when I was making hard boiled eggs. Ow! Ow! Ow! Thank goodness for fresh Aloe Vera, straight from the plant. I was scalded pretty badly. Yikes! Do you just take off a leaf and squeeze it on? Cut off a piece of leaf from the plant then slice it legthwise. I just apply the wet side to the burn. home from a fun-filled day today. I had to wake the pups up for dinner, and I haven't seen LD since. Punk is giving me stank eye from her bed out in the nook, that I have the nerve to still be awake. the stove is clean, the sink is full (and I'm leaving it til the am) and my bedding is in the dryer. I realized that I'm leaving again in a week and a half, not two and a half, while talking about plans to drop the pups. how is it already Feb 20th?? oops... I put up pics on FB, will try to post some here later/tomorrow from my phone. but today was three purebred golden retrievers and a pair of hoodrat rescue mutts mixing it up, all living their best lives. LD chased Charlie all over M's backyard every time we went outside, the old man still has some wheels on him! but Punk and the houseguests mostly just leaned on us for loving all day. all three goldens jumped into the mix here and there, but mostly just ignored Charlie unless he invaded their space. they'd growl, he'd back off, and it was all just fine. (C is 1yo, H is 6, my two are 8, D is 9). the younger of the two houseguests apparently had an issue with Charlie before we got there, and then created a problem while we were there that resulted in a full-on dog fight that ended up with LD nipping H while trying to mediate H/Charlie and getting caught in the middle of some nipping. *or so I was told, the fight was literally under my butt on the bar stool at the island while the adults played cards. that was dicey, but everyone was okay after a solid breather with some attitudes outside vs inside for awhile. one thing we all saw today - LD is going to be fantastic for Charlie in teaching him how to dog and be a solid citizen. and, we all decided that LD is going to spend some overnights with them all. Punk can get a break where she and I can go places in public that are dog friendly where LD wouldn't do well, and he can both teach Charlie and work on his separation anxiety from Punk. this is fantastic for all of us Some people can't sleep knowing there are dishes in the sink. I am not one of them.

I bought a pandora charm to put on my necklace for my mom. Also got a cupcake. I brought it home because I was very close to crying into it at the mall. Sorry.
