Crappy way to treat allies. But it does benefit Putin

I find it hard to believe anyone was "blindsided" by this move. Trump telegraphed this one.

Trump says he is smarter then anyone including the generals. Time will tell how this one works out for our stable genius commander-in-chief.

We'll be dealing with the consequences of this bad decision long after he's in prison. Or dead.

The Kurds must have been unwilling to look for dirt on the Bidens.

It's no surprise why he is doing this now, is it? Stir up some shit, get his impeachment off the news. And those that support him are just plain idiots. America hasn't kept it's word on anything since he became president. And every decision he makes is impulsive. Where have these guys been for 3 years. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., did say Monday in an appearance on "Fox & Friends" that he had been briefed by the president about the decision. But he also said he had concerns. "I want to make sure we keep our word for those who fight with us and help us," he said, adding that, "If you make a commitment and somebody is fighting with you, America should keep their word." Graham, R-S.C., one of Trump's most vocal backers, also called in to "Fox and Friends" to share his dismay, calling the decision "short-sighted and irresponsible." "This impulsive decision by the president has undone all the gains we've made, thrown the region into further chaos. Iran is licking their chops." www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trumps-syria-withdrawal-announcement-draws-gop-condemnation/ar-AAIp0Wm?ocid=spartandhp

We'll be dealing with the consequences of this bad decision long after he's in prison. Or dead. As is so frequently the case, I strongly disagree with the process this President utilizes. A late Sunday evening announcement of something this significant is not appropriate. That being said, I am not willing to prejudge the decision itself.

So while all the fringe loon extremists here decry what they call the Obama Iran treaty, Trump trashes it, turds the Kurds, and benefits both Iran and Russia. Oh well played Mr. President of the United States.

Didn't take long. Not long at all. TURKEY ATTACKS KURDS, SDF IN IRAQ, SYRIA AS U.S. WITHDRAWSThe attacks come after the US announced that it would withdraw from Syria as Turkey prepares for a military operation to create a "safe zone" in northern Syria. BY TZVI JOFFRE OCTOBER 7, 2019 23:18 Turkish forces carried out attacks against Kurdish forces and the anti-Assad Syrian Democratic Forces militia in Syria and Iraq near the Turkish border on Monday evening. Turkish forces attacked SDF positions in the city of al-Malikiyah in the Hasakah area in northern Syria, according to Syrian state news agency SANA. The SDF includes Kurds and others in eastern Syria which the US has helped train, assist and advise during the war on ISIS. Earlier on Monday, the United States announced that it would be withdrawing from Syria. Turkey will move forward with its long-planned military operation to create what it calls a "safe zone" in northern Syria and U.S. forces will not support or be involved in it, the White House press secretary announced early Monday morning. "The United States Armed Forces will not support or be involved in the operation, and United States forces, having defeated the ISIS territorial 'Caliphate,' will no longer be in the immediate area," said the White House press secretary on Monday morning. One of my parishioners is stationed there now (just talked to him on a secure line 10 days ago) I hope that this rash decision doesn't put his life in danger. Wedding planned for next fall. On a broader scale, I'm very upset that we (USA) are not honoring our commitment to our allies/friends.

How many US voters really have a specific, educated opinion of Kurdish-Turkey relations? I know there are people who understand the delicate nature of all things middle east, and there are people who don't want to have any involvement anywhere, ever. But does the average Joe really understand and/or care? I certainly don't understand, and absolutely don't know the long term implications of anything, and half the time, I don't even know the short term implications. I bet 80% of Americans couldn't even find Syria on a map. Half of that 80% couldn't find it on a map that labeled the countries.

I am appreciating the discussions that I and others find on this long running yet developing situation.

I’m all for getting the US out of Middle East entanglements ASAP but it does need to be carefully planned and I don’t want to leave the Kurds completely hung out to dry by Turkey or even Iraq.
That being said if I am the Kurds I would never trust the US again and would probably cozy up to the Russians and Iranians. They have to be thinking long term survival and who can help them keep Turkey and the opposing factions in Iraq in check.

The Kurds consider parts of Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran as the area of Kurdistan. There is no love lost between the Kurds and the past and present leaders of Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. All of those countries would like to see the Kurds gone from their territories.

There really isn’t a very good answer, I’m just not willing to spend US lives and treasure getting to one.
