"If Mexico doesn't immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States throug (sic) our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING the Border, or large sections of the Border, next week," he tweeted.link I think that closing a border that has "(n)early 400 million travelers a year, $2.3 billion worth of trade, nearly 30 million trucks, rail cars and cargo containers every year" should be worth more than a tweet announcement.

He's just showing his bully mentality. Said it before but didn't do it. I'd like to see the negative reaction he'd get if he goes through with it. Which ass kissing Republicans would stick with him on it?

I'm starting to have mixed emotions on his tweeting. Yes, he tweets an awful lot of stupid sh**, and nothing good comes from any of it, but on the other hand he is not talking while he does it so we don't have to actually hear him. Tough call.

Automatic TV mute when I hear his voice on the Tube. His voice is as disgusting as his moral principles. Depends on how many adult beverages I've had.
If I'm sober, I usually give him a couple minutes, then change the channel.
If I've had a couple adult beverages, I mute him and then make up alternative words for him to say to go along with his lip pursing and finger flapping.

Trump kind of had to say this - his handlers on Fox news instructed him to do it the night before.

So when he says 'I'm going to close the border' does he mean nothing gets across it at all, or that no one who isn't a American citizen can't come over the border, or what? Does 'closed' mean nothing gets in or out or just that nothing can get in? So for all the stuff we export to Mexico, all that business gets shut down? Or is this one of those things Trump hasn't actually made a decision on, just some shit he says?

Ok, So let's get right to the root of this discussion, about closing the border. That is letting in people or limiting the number of people that come in. What is the magic number, on how many come in?

This discussion is about President Trump using Twitter to announce that "I will be CLOSING the Border, or large sections of the Border, ...". I find it inappropriate for the President to announce such a move using a tweet. A full statement that details what "CLOSING" means instead of using all capital letters, as if that offers meaning in the real world, would give the American people answers instead of leaving everyone guessing.

What is the magic number, on how many come in? Did he give clarity on what he was planning? Did he say limiting people? I'm not even sure what we should be discussing. How many "people" should be allowed to cross? Does your quota of "people" include truck drivers bringing legal goods? How about American citizens that were on vacation? Or Americans who travel to Mexico for work? Are they allowed to return? How about Mexican citizens that have a Visa or something? Are they allowed to cross? If so, is the border really closed?

“It certainly isn’t a bluff. You can take the president seriously," (White House counselor Kellyanne Conway) said on "Fox News Sunday," I find it hard to take him seriously when he tweets a weak statement like "I will be CLOSING the Border, or large sections of the Border" followed with the weaselly “there’s a very good likelihood ...". And Conway added, "(Congress) can fix this." President Trump's tweet said, "If Mexico doesn’t immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States throug (sic) our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING..... ....the Border, or large sections of the Border, next week." So exactly how will Congress fix it? Seriously Mr. President, please establish a clear policy and have your spokespeople on the same page.

To me the discussion is about what he tweeted and IMO he did it because its a usual Trump nothing statement. He really doesn't have to follow through at all, for some people to believe he's actually doing something. Its an emotional statement. Its not policy, not even intention. You can close "large sections" of the border simply by closing the gates now and then. I don't know if the border gates and checks are open 24x7, but he'd only have to close them for a couple hours or count the usual downtime to fulfill his emotional statement. I won't take this tweet seriously. It reminds me of patients threatening to call 911 when they don't get their meds quick enough or they want to go home NOW. Its an unreasoning emotional tantrum posted to twitter. MO. YMMV.

Ah, so some idiot can't tell the difference between Mexico and various other countries ... ? Is it the Spanish, the brownish skin color or something else? (I don't need to know. The level of stupid is too high today in RL.)

No, they are separate countries. What should have been there was "Trump cuts U.S. aid to 3 Central American countries."
Trump and FOX are so caught up in the "Mexicans bad" thing that they conflate everything into one big bogeyman.

The immigration discussions have made it obvious some don't distinguish much between Mexico and countries below it.
