Most of the migrants are coming from Guatemala and other central American countries that are currently experiencing a lot of violence and political turmoil.
Mexico might be able to try to dissuade their own citizens from migrating, but what are they supposed to do with the migrants who are not their own citizens?
Build their own wall on their southern border? Maybe they realize large walls are mostly decorative and not very effective.
Maybe the US should be helping to establish humanitarian refugee camps on the borders of countries like Guatemala to shelter the desperate people trying to flee those countries, so they don't feel such a need to migrate to the nearest country where they think they might find a job and a safe place for their kids. Instead, Trump cut off a billion in aid we were previously sending them, which will mostly likely just make the problem worse.
Why are we the one's that need to send money??
Why aren't all of those wonderful Socialist countries around the World opening their borders and sending money?? Venezuela much closer for them.
Because we are the richest country that has ever existed on the planet, and we are the ones who will benefit if they become socially and economically stable.

If you're drinking the mainstream media koolaid, he has no plans at all. I work with groups doing activities that involving problem solving. An example of an activity I do with younger people (11-14 year olds) is them getting their entire group safely over a cable spool on a metal bar hanging between two trees. I ask them to give me a plan before anyone leaves the ground and then I step back. What they give me following their talking together frequently leads to a discussion on the difference of having "ideas" and having "a plan". Please see my reply #66 in which I highlight President Trump's "plan" using his words with no media commentary included. I started this thread because I want the President of the United States to present us with a plan, not just ideas. I said no plans at all.

They can't help themselves. They're having trouble keeping the lights on.

Last week: "If Mexico doesn't immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States throug (sic) our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING the Border, or large sections of the Border, next week," he tweeted.link This week: "If we don't make a deal with Congress, the border's going to be closed," he told reporters in the Oval Office. "100 percent."link Next week: We will just have to wait and see I guess Sounds like his closing border was for threat purposes only ? Doesn't rule it out, however.

If he follows through on this, closing the border is going to burn farmers. Again. My home state ships a lot of corn to Mexico. It's not like the farmers didn't get burned enough by the tariffs. So, what's going to happen to all of that corn? Don't know how the national news is reporting this where you all live, but here they're saying about 40% of the fresh produce this time of the year comes from Mexico. So, what are you planning to eat if this ends up being something that lasts a long time? I don't eat avocados, which they're saying we'll run out of in about 3 weeks, but there are other foods I would miss. As of we aren't unhealthy enough - now the few vegetables we do eat are going to go away. It's ok, we don't eat our vegetables anyway. Pizza, mmmmm

A proper quoting would be: I said "... no plans at all." That would let people know that you weren't providing the full context of what you said. They could then go check your statement and see that it contained that little modifier "if". A modification that totally changes the meaning of those last for words. The hilarious part is you included your actual quote so people didn't have go beyond your post to see you misquoted yourself.

"(O)nly" and "doesn't rule it out" is a contradiction. Timeframe dependent. Everything out of President Trump's mouth and fingers is minute to minute time frame dependent. That is why I did a time frame posting.

Only mentioned because of the OP, and the listing of a years worth of costs. Do you think Trumps tweets are policy decisions ? Or is he just putting possibilities out into the twitter verse, in an end run around the media's endless editorializing.

Though I'm sure I already know the answer, I wonder if there is any evidence to back up his claim that Mexico has suddenly changed their practices.

Should I have used monthly, weekly, daily, hourly, each minute, or would it have been even more appropriate to do it per second considering we are talking President Trump?

I think President Trump's tweets are brain barf. A completely developed policy paper would give the media less room to attempt to fill in the spaces than those left by a tweet.

Not possible, Dems control the house, Repubs the senate. Nothing is going to happen.
