My goal was to lose 10K (22 lbs) by Mon, when I go back to work. I very much doubt I'll make it. I'm currently at 8.5K (18.7 lbs). The weight loss has definitely slowed. There is a UK supermarket chain called Marks & Spencer that has stores in Paris. I found a few low-carb options there. I'll be near one tomorrow, and there's one right near Job 1. They're not cheap but I'd like to keep going so I'll probably stock up on a few things for my 2 days/week at Job 1. I usually bring ready meals to Job 1 but even though they're small portions, they have a lot of carbs. Job 2 has a great staff cafeteria, so I don't need to bring my lunch those 2 days. The best thing about that UK supermarket is that their GF bread happens to be low-carb. I remember accidently buying a GF sandwich there a few months ago. It was inedible. But everything is relative, and now that bread tastes better than the low-carb bread I've been buying online (and it's cheaper too).

From the LCHF FB page, fats are to equal protein. Other low carbers don't balance fats/protein saying the body will provide the fat.
On myfitnesspal.com 1200 calories 120 grams of protein 67 fat. The site can have the macros set to what you want, but to figure net carbs requires going beyond the free app. I don't know for sure if protein turns to carbs in the body if eating too much. I'm not a nutrition scientist. The true low carbers are 0-5 carbs. All protein. I have a friend who did that. I think moderate carbs is easier to hold to. 20-50.

I have to keep a relatively high protein, low carb diet because I'm hypoglycemic. If I ate a starchy diet, I'd weigh 400 lbs. and be fainting all the time. I have to wonder how many morbidly obese people are actually undiagnosed hypoglycemics. But I didn't have much success on Adkins. It's actually a really hard diet to keep. I generally only loose weight and keep it off with a decent exercise regimen.
If you're looking for small, high protein, relatively low carb snacks, the Medifast 'meals' hit the spot. They are also fortified with vitamins. I had some success with a modified version of medifast, where I ate about twice as many calories as the 800 calories (crazy) the diet prescribes. But I gained it all back again.

I was fairly bad on vacation but I’m back and serious again. My abs are looking good so my core exercises are finally working.

Artemis Windsong 0-5 carb is considered "zero carb", not "low carb". I have absolutely NO interest in eating ONLY meat and fish. My carb goal these days is 20, not zero, which means I can have a Greek yoghurt / one low-carb fruit / low-carb veggies every day. I go back to work tomorrow. As of this morning I did NOT hit my goal (10 kilos = 22 lbs). But I DID get very close (9 kilos = 19.8 lbs). Not bad for 10 weeks! I'm on a reduced schedule until Job 2 starts up mid-Sept. I hope I hit my goal by then, because I doubt I can keep this up while working FT. I FINALLY found low-carb breakfast bars (4-4.5 net carbs/bar), after spending a LONG time looking in three supermarkets. I leave the house very early and can't eat till I get to school, so I keep breakfast bars at school. This week I don't start early so I'm saving them till next week.
Sometimes my colleagues "borrow" my breakfast bars or low-cal cookies. I've never minded, we are all friends. But I'm going to warn them that if they take one of these bars I'll cut them, given what they cost and how hard they were to find LOL.

My cousin's wife is doing the keto diet along with eating only between 1PM and 6 PM. She does not eat before or after that time. She has lost 40 pounds. She also works out 4 days a week.

Thank you Artemis Windsong . I've worked so hard for this, I hope you're right LOL. It was great to hear the compliments at work today (NOT from the French though, which was sort of sad. In France it's considered rude to point out someone's weight loss, because it implies that they were too heavy before. As if the person didn't know LOL! But the Anglo-Saxons all mentioned it LOL. Wow saveinla ! From what I read, a lot of keto people do that to either accelerate the weight loss or break a plateau. It's called IF, intermittent fasting. I generally don't eat breakfast when I'm home but I need to eat something when I'm teaching. Also, we eat dinner later here. I aim to eat dinner at 7 or 7.30 but that is super early here. I don't work out but I walk a decent amount (8K-10K steps per day). After talking to my very close friend today, I've basically decided that I'm keeping this up for two more weeks until I go back to a FT schedule. At that point I think I will move to a less restrictive diet for the last few pounds (and then maintenance).

ednkris I got all excited and looked it up (she has a website too). But she uses SO MANY ingredients!!! I would have to order a bunch of them online since they don't exist here, and frankly, I don't think I have the patience to use that many ingredients. You have a very nice wife! We are driving DS3 to Belgium for his year-long internship later this week. I will check out a supermarket or two to see if they have a low-carb section. (France does not, the UK does.) Maybe I'll get lucky?!
I saw my best French friend from work today for the first time since the summer. As expected, she disregarded the typical French "I won't mention your weight loss because that would imply that you needed to lose weight, which would be very rude." She greeted me with "OMG! OMG! OMG! Look at you! You look AMAZING!!!" Tons of hugs and then she grabbed my hands and made me dance around in a circle with her LOL! This was in front of a bunch of VERY amused older students (all new students, either transfers or internationals, so they don't know what I looked like before.) Most won't have me for English (a few will) but a bunch probably WILL have E for Accounting LOL.

Yes there are alot of ingredients. Alot of recipes call for coconut flour which I'm not a big fan of so we use almond flour. It is nice when people notice the difference. Keep up the good fight..

Coconut flour was something to try. I wanted to use it up in recipes. I use almond flour the most.

I have both coconut flour and almond flour at home. I have no problem with substituting either, or both, but I am too lazy to do any recipes that call for a ton of ingredients.
I have a friend who was a doctor but who became a gluten-free chef because she and her DH travelled a lot for his job, and it wasn't always possible for her to get medical accreditation. She says that almond flour works better than coconut flour in most recipes because almond flour acts like regular flour, whereas coconut flour absorbs liquids more.
I have trouble digesting eggs. The several keto substitute recipes I've tried don't work for me because there's too much egg in them. Eggs are a HUGE staple in keto, which is probably one of the main reasons I can't wait to stop.

I can't stand eggs...my wife loves them. Breakfast is he hardest for me bacon and sausage, maybe ham. Did real good these last 3 days we both stayed under 20 grams each day. Gping shopping tomorrow to stock up this will be costly.

From The Ground Up cauliflower crackers, nacho flavor are great. 40 pieces is a serving. 18 carbs with 15 net so they are high but sometimes I need that crunch. 1/4 of serving.

I found VERY low-carb bread in Brussels (but nothing else low-carb) ... just 4g per slice! I bought three loaves, and froze two. So at least I have a stock of bread. That will make life MUCH easier at Job 1 because it means I can make sandwiches those 2 days/week.

debthaven, congratulations! Oddly, I'm of the French mindset not the American one. I never comment on someone's weight unless he/she mentions it first.
I've had breakfast and lunch today, and I'm at 107 carbs. Striving to keep under 200 today. I believe I've hit rock bottom regarding my weight, but I've thought that before.

I'm been oscillating between 9 and 9.5 kilos lost (20-21 lbs) for two weeks but just.can't.manage to break 10 kilos (22 lbs)! I've been aiming for under 20 carbs/day but I may be closer to 25 with the wine. Because yes, French keto allows you two glasses of dry white or red wine per day LOL.
10 kilos (22 lbs) is (was?) my goal weight to go off keto and onto moderate carbs (50-80/day). The SAD is 250-300. I am DYING for a slice of pizza!!!

I had a great conversation with my sister today. She has been obese since before I was born (she's 13 years older than me). Sis: So how's the low carb diet going? Me: I've stalled at 21 lbs. Once I hit 22 lbs I'm stopping Keto and going to moderate carbs. Sis: OMG you're doing Keto?! I've been doing Keto for a year!!! You told me you were doing low-carb but you never told me you were doing Keto! Me: Oh wow, how much have you lost?! Sis: 8 lbs last year, nothing since. It all came back. I don't understand why. Me: That's not possible. You must be cheating. Sis. I NEVER cheat. NEVER. Me: Then you must be eating carbs you're not aware of. Sis: NEVER, I know enough not to do that. OK, when I eat sushi, I eat the rice too. Me: OK. Frankly it would be better to eat sashimi.
Sis: I know but it's just a bit of rice.
Me: Do you miss fruit too?! I'm only allowed 1 LC fruit per day, berries or melon. Sis: OMG, you eat fruit?! In the US you're not allowed ANY fruit! None! I miss fruit TERRIBLY! I just ate a whole mango. It was so delicious!!! Me: So you ARE cheating, and that's why you're not losing. Sis: I've already told you three times, I NEVER cheat. And when I go to my Middle Eastern dance classes, how can I not eat the pita bread?! That would just be rude! LOL! I ADORE my sister but I thought today's conversation was both very funny and very sad.

ednkris congratulations to you and your DW, that is FANTASTIC progress!!! I'm still hoping to hit 10 kilos (22 lbs) lost after 11.5 weeks. I've been at 9.5 kilos for forever (or so it seems, I guess about 2 weeks.)
I cried leaving work today because I just don't have the energy for the insane schedule I signed up for. (I'm a university adjunct.) I was hoping the weight loss would override the schedule and give me more energy, but no. I'm hoping to hit my 10 kilo goal before Job 2 starts next week.
I'm also doing IF. I JUST WANT TO HIT THAT DARN 10 KILO (22 LB) GOAL!!! I'M AT 9.8 KILOS (21.6 LBS)!!!
ETA: My poor DH is losing weight too, even though he doesn't need to. When the kids/grandson were here during the summer, we included carbs at dinners but I didn't eat them although the others did. (I'm the only person in my family with weight issues.) But now that it's just DH and I (school year empty nest), I won't cook carbs, and generally DH doesn't either, out of solidarity.

I hate plateaus ( hope I spelled it right spell check said ok). Don't beat yourself up you will get there. How many carbs you doing a day now if you track it try doing 5 carbs a day less for 2 weeks. The job wow...2 in education god bless you. I worked most of my life either working 2 jobs or enough hours in a week to equal 2. Once I hit 50 I started to scale back still hit 65 to 70 lately. My grandson had us running in circles this summer he just turned 3 that energy I just don't have

I finally hit 10 kilos (nearly 11!) today!
I'm so happy that I have decided to keep going. But I'll allow myself to be a little more flexibile in social situations (while doing my best to avoid them). DH wanted to take me out for an Egg McMuffin this morning (I love them) and I said no thanks. Also this is probably not the best habit in the world, but I switched from wine to gin (with Tonic Zero) a couple of days ago ... zero carbs .
