I won't eat saurkraut under any circumstances. It's literally just rotten cabbage.

BTW, Biscuits with sausage gravy is the best hangover breakfast. Ever. no way - a scrambled egg with bacon, tater tots, and melted cheese. heavy on the bacon, tater tots, and melted cheese.

and I won't eat cabbage any other way (sauerkraut). Go figure! The waffles, chicken and gravy makes me a little nauseous just considering it. I like all three, but not the idea of them together. Kinda strange I like gravy at all because I'm one of those people who would prefer a divided plate at holiday meals so the different foods don't touch.

If I can get a nice batch of basil growing again this season I may have to try it. Since I love to cook it's do-able! Try making it with walnuts instead of pine nuts. It's a bit of a bolder nuttier flavor, which could be what you're missing. I can easily try that since I have 2 of my own black walnut trees. We had a bumper crop this year so I finally caved in and dried about 8 dozen and have been cracking them open this past week. So part of that equation will be a done deal. Sidebar: this may be the only good part of having those damn trees. Bumper crop years tend to make the limbs very heavy and our severe summer storms bring down said limbs. Therefore creating a whole lotta trouble in the neighborhood since they typically fall pretty close my my neighbors dwelling. Sorry if that's TMI!

I make walnut pesto in the summer and use it for potato salad

I never thought about putting pesto in potato salad. that sounds awesome! Is it just regular potato salad with pesto instead of mayo?

if it is, please share the recipe. I absolutely hate mayo, and will only use it very sparingly in those salads whose tastes will overwhelm that of the mayo. it would be nice to be able to have potato salad like everyone else all summer.

meat loaf, salmon, beets, peas, cabbage, liver, spinach, tuna, scallops, any weird kind of meat. Washing chickens and turkeys disgusts me too.

It's approximate: 2 parts basil 1 part walnuts 1 part grated parm Garlic to taste
Chop the walnuts in the food processor, add the basil, then the cheese and garlic. Drizzle in olive oil until you get to the right consistency (you don't want liquidy, but more paste like). Season with salt and pepper. Easy peesy

Sorry -- cube up potatos, boil or roast them. Toss with the pesto. That's it.

thanks! didn't know if you added anything to it all. I make pine nut pesto all the time, never tried walnuts before. I will totally taste test this when it warms up enough for potato salad.

I'm sorry, but how can you not like Chinese food? I didn't for a while, but it was because I was going to a crappy restaurant.

I knew I forgot stuff I don't like beets or fish sticks. I've liked all the fresh seafood I've had. I will eat raw oysters if necessary but I really don't like them that much. Now oysters rockefeller is another story. Then again rich cream sauce covers up a lot of sins.

I hated Chinese food when I was younger, mainly because of my dad. He was a plumber/pipefitter and had to do some work in restaurant kitchens (back in the day before health inspections and regulations were so rigid) and some of the stories he told about the conditions of their kitchens, cooking surfaces, floors, woks and pans was pretty gross. (They'd also sometimes cook different foods in the same pans/oils as the previous orders without washing them out.
Chinese food also didn't agree with me for a long time because it was usually laced with MSG to make it more 'tasty & colorful'. Nowadays it's one of my favorites, mainly because the cooking methods and other factors have improved, and the menus are more diverse and offer more choices than in the past (and you can order without MSG). I still prefer to cook my own though. I have 3 woks to do stir-fry's and fried rice, etc.

I like to make my own sausage, so I know exactly what's going into it. I've got a professional grade meat grinder, casings and stuffer, and a smoker (which doesn't always get used, depending on what I'm making).

Craig gets an exalt for being a new member and because I'm not eating some of that stuff too. The question is was he a lurker on the old boards, or truly someone who found us here?l [/quote]
Thanks. I used to visit the old boards once in awhile but since it moved I felt more inclined to join in on the conversations.

This is true. Maybe a better explanation would be we try to enjoy ourselves and sometimes it turns out to be hysterically funny. And yeah someone's going to go there I know.

If it's hysterically funny, you're enjoying yourself all wrong (unless you're into that sort of thing, not that there's anything wrong with that).
