::Hey, I didn't say it - Raymond Chandler did.::
Perhaps Ray Ray meant two week long benders.

Yeah, you don't want to use your woods in the snow. Trust me, it doesn't work very well.

[Perhaps if you had been looking at the road instead..... ]
LOL Good one :-)
All I said was he exists-I didn't say he was just, true, nice, or fair, nor did I say he's on the job all the time...and of course, no one knows the why in any unexplainable event...but belief in his existence means you believe there was a reason you may not be able to comprehend.

I am a non-believer and I am teaching my children that you do the right thing because it's the right thing to do - not because god is going to strike you down if you don't. They're still pretty young so I will have to let you know if personal responsibility is enough to ingrain compassion in a human being or not. It's still ok to use Santa and the Easter Bunny as threats, though, right???

And Hindus believe that cows are sacred. So should we outlaw meat consumption because it goes against their beliefs? What about smoking? It has been proven that smoking is bad for a person so should we outlaw tobacco? People do things all the time that I may not agree with but it's their choice. We live in a land that is free so the choices should be available whether or not we agree with them. With smoking you are hurting yourself....if you want to get cancer, go right ahead. The difference with the cow scenario is that it is not ok to kill babies once they are born. That's murder. To those of us that are pro-life, there is no difference between an unborn baby and a baby that was born. There will never be agreement between the pro-lifers and the pro-choicers because one values the life of a baby over a mother's choice...the other doesn't. There is no reconciling such huge differences in thinking.

Whether or not someone believes in a God is really a moot point. I don't see what's to be gained in trying to prove or disprove the existence of one. If someone has faith that there is a God and their faith is a help or comfort to them, then why not? Some people find their lives more fulfilled with believing. And on the other hand, if someone else is equally as sure that no God exists, then that's their prerogative too. There's two arguments that never will have a right side and a wrong side in a debate - one is religion and the other politics. I have to agree with this. As long as somebody doesn't ram their beliefs down my throat, either way, I don't begrudge them theirs. As I get older my God is getting a little fuzzier and my wine is being worshiped more. THAT I can count on.

So god personally looks out for you because you believe? What about those Christians who are killed in traffic accidents and whatnot? They doubted or something so they deserved to die? Was god on the can and just couldn't get around to saving them? It was important to save you from the car accident by keeping you from turning right on the red, but it's cool to let a baby be born with HIV/AIDS, cause you know, it's all part of the plan? Are you noticing that if god is responsible for every little detail of our lives that kind of makes him a douche, since a lot of us have pretty screwed up lives? It always amazes me when people try to use this argument. The truth is that bad things happen...nowhere in the Bible does it say that believers will be exempt from bad things. What exactly is it that you want God to stop, my guess is all the bad things? To paraphrase Lecrae, what is "bad" or evil; that answer would be anything against God. So if you want God to stop everything that is bad, does that also include all the "bad" thoughts you have or do you just want Him to stop the stuff that consider to be wrong? Do you stop the lying, stealing, killing level or do you stop the thinking level too? By stopping that, you stop all free will...so the question is that what you really want? People ask why God allows bad things to happen, but that's not the right question. The right question is why doesn't God show us more wrath for our sin? That answer is in the Bible. Now to answer some of your questions, such as the baby being born with HIV/AIDS. The baby was born that way because the mother had the disease, whether it be from a blood transfusion, from drug abuse, from a person she had sex with, or whatever other possible reason. Let me asked you this, if everybody only had sex with their spouse, how widespread would HIV or other STD's be right now? God says to do one thing and people do another, and still God gets the blame for it? How does that make sense?

obviously, depends on your viewpoint...either way it takes an element of faith, be it in science or in religion...
in my mind, there are proofs that God exists...i mean to say the entire universe with planetary systems down to the intricacies of dna is the result of an explosion with out design is like saying if you set off a bomb in a print shop the results would be a collegiate dictionary...
plus many write off or ignore bible prophecy...having events recorded prior to them happening shows there is design and involvement in steering world conditions to allow them to happen...
anyway, believers will not convince non-believers & vice versa...it does make for interesting conversation if each can respect the others opinion...

How can some people be so open to possibilities that they can't really comprehend and yet be so closed off to the possibility of God existing?
God gave us minds to use in our understanding, I don't find it the least bit surprising that God made the world in a way that we can understand.
People will make the argument that something can form from nothing, and yet don't really understand what causes that happen. I'm not even really sure how you can have "nothing" in order to test the theory. I've read on the logic and it still doesn't make much sense to me that a person can believe nothing (no molecules, atoms, and even the smallest particle) can exist and have something form from it. Some people have blind faith in science. When they can't explain something, they saying something like "we just don't understand it yet," and when God is mentioned, they want to say "Prove it." So it's not that they can't accept things on faith, they just choose not to accept God on faith.

I do not believe or disbelieve the existence of God. But, I wonder, how could he look down on this earth and see all the suffering; the floods in Australia where people have lost their homes, the third World countries with starving children, and all the catastrophies going on in the world. I know Christian people might say it is his will, but why? He has the power to fix things I'm sure. So, why do all this things happen? To prove people's faith? Faith in what?
