I like light hearted movies once in a while
Caddyshack Groundhog Day Stripes
Or the romantic comedies
Joe vs the Volcano....etal
But i love hard hitting movies
Add Scarface and The Godfather to my list
Movies that make you really think about things...make you wonder about your life, and how you live it

I'm really picky I guess. I rarely go to the movies. I like a good comedy but not stupid or vulgar which describes most of the recent "comedies". I don't like bloody, violent or depressing movies. I hate "superhero" movies. Most recent "oscar" movies I didn't care for but I loved The King's Speech.

DH & I went thru a long spell of watching that kind of movie on Friday nights. It wasn't planned, just seemed to happen that way. In the 'heavy hitting' category, I like Hotel Rwanda (Don Cheadle is amazing!) and The House of Sand and Fog.

<<<Movies that make you really think about things...make you wonder about your life, and how you live it<<< When I watched the movie "Seven Pounds" with Will Smith, it really impacted how I felt about how he lived his life so unselfishly and the impact of giving back. We are only here once, and never know whose life we will touch, hopefully in a positive way.

I forgot about "The Killing Fields" - that's one of my favorites too along with Ghandi.

Just about everything on TCM. I am such a TCM junkie that DF says he is going to get me on there as a guest host just so I can yammer away about classic movies. I think he is tired of me yammering at him about them. Has anyone seen "A Big Hand For The Little Lady?" Henry Fonda, Joanne Woodward, Jason Robards.

Yes, I love that movie - thought of it earlier, but couldn't think of the name of it. I love a lot of old movies, too. Johnny Belinda is another good old movie. I may just have to spend the weekend watching TCM and AMC.

My plan for tonight after DD goes to sleep is to watch "The Canterville Ghost." I DVR'd it on TCM last week. I've seen it before, but it's been years. I remember finding it a very enjoyable watch.

I never watch AMC. They edit the movies. I hate that! Plus, I can't stand commercials. We do watch Breaking Bad & Mad Men on AMC (from the DVR, so we can FF thru the commercials) Zib - have you discussed the TCM cruise with DF? looks like it's Cary Grant all day Sunday and Joan Crawford on Monday. I feel an illness coming on...I may have to stay home Monday

He finds it bizarre that I know this kind of stuff since most of the movies were made well before I was born but they are awesome movies. I am taping most of Sunday. Sigh, "The Bishop's Wife." Cary Grant, Loretta Young, David Niven. I'm a huge Greer Garson and Claudette Colbert fan as well.

I wish AMC was the way it was when it first started. No commercials, and a lot of seldom seen movies. They also played a lot of stuff from the 30's and 40's; now not so much. I guess they started commercials so they could afford to show "newer" and more popular movies. TCM is good, but there's just a lot of obscure films that never appear any where.

Fox Movie Channel is a good one too for older movies. I think some of the obscure old movies you never see have something to do with the studio agreements, but I'm not sure. I love "The Five Pennies" but hardly ever see it on a program schedule. I don't think TCM has ever shown it, but I've caught it once or twice on FXM.

FMC is extra here so we don't get it. Sometimes TCM shows weird stuff, they just got thru with a bunch of French films which I just skipped over. But they are making it up with good stuff afterward.

yeah, I'm not into reading a movie either. Usually I'm listening to the movie while I'm doing other stuff around the house, so foreign flicks and silent films aren't really my thing.

I love foreign films. This one was made in Afghanistan on a shoestring butget ($46,000) and is one of the best movies I have ever seen. A 12-year-old Afghan girl (Marina Golbahari) and her mother (Zubaida Sahar) lose their jobs when the Taliban close the hospital where they work. The Taliban have also forbidden women to leave their houses without a male "legal companion." With her husband and uncle dead, having been killed in battle during the Soviet invasion and their civil wars, there are no men left to support the family. Unable to leave the house without fear of arrest and torture, the mother is left with nowhere to turn. With no other choice and inspired by a story her mother tells about a boy who went under a rainbow and became a girl, she disguises her daughter as a boy named 'Osama'. Osama manages to secure a job at the local chai tea shop, but 'his' effeminate ways quickly arouse suspicion among the other boys.
