movies DH & I quote lines from all the time: Fargo, Lake Placid, Young Frankenstein, The Thin Man, Now Voyager, All About Eve, and all of the Marx Brothers films. I actually never watched a Marx Brothers movie until I met DH. Now we own all of them on DVD and we STILL watch them when they are on TCM sis & I will call each other when we see an old favorite is going to be on. We always loved Imitation of Live (the Lana Turner version), and any Bette Davis or Joan Crawford movie.

Thank you, thank you all so much! You have given me such great ideas. I don't watch much TV, except for the news, but every once in a while I like to watch a movie. My kids are going to love the my Holiday gift wish this year! I've forgetten some of the older movies that I just love.

Sue - if you are wanting to buy DVDs, try some of the used DVD sites. I've ordered from Second Spin many times with no problem. Once you are on their email list, they have some good promos.

No one's mentioned Dr. Zhivago (1965)? Everytime I think of the summer home scene I get the shivers.

Because I love them and in no particular order...
Princess Bride Big Jake Thin Man movies (I have them on DVD, one of my favorite purchases) Apollo 13 The Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser, although the 3rd one needed the original actress. Actually, anything with Brendan Fraser... Indiana Jones (except 4, I can skip that one) Day After Tomorrow, esp. during winter because I feel so much better about the temp/snow here after watching it... The King and I My Fair Lady any episode of Dr Who or SG1.
If I have 12 hours or so, I'd watch 10th Kingdom.

Well I liked the movie but once you've seen it and know how it ends it isn't very interesting. I hate that Waltons movie though. Our taste in movies is totally opposite.

We watch Groundhog's Day on Groundhog's day. We watch Ghostbusters on halloween. And we watch finding Nemo and Jaws every year while in the pool, projected on a sheet hanging on the porch.
We own Elf, so we watch that every year. And we just bought 3 Amigos - so I'm sure we will watch that every Cinco de Mayo. I just can't think of a better way to de-evolve such an unimportant holiday - But that is the day the pool officially opens at our house - we celebrate with tacos and margaritas and all the white people we can find.

Platoon!! Thanks, Kimber--that's the name of the other movie I couldn't think of One thing guys liked about me when I was dating--I usually liked the same kind of movies they did. Now if I could just find someone to date again, some movies are no fun to watch by yourself (and I'm not going to watch the crude humor stuff with DS) I really wanted to go see The Hangover 2 this summer, but didn't want to go by myself.

I have the DVD that has all the Garfield specials on it: Christmas, Thanksgiving and Halloween. My mom found it at the Dollar Store. I keep meaning to purchase Rocko's Christmas Special and Claymation Christmas but never remember to do it. Maybe this year. I remember another one. I watch Santa Claus: The Movie every year now. My mom got it on DVD, it came out last year for it's anniversary. DH hates it, he loathes Dudley Moore. Fine with me because it means I can watch a movie uninterrupted! ;D We also watch A Christmas Story on TBS.

WOO HOO, party at thyme's house next May! Thanks everyone for sharing. I was just wondering if I was weird in the fact that I watch favorite movies at odd times. I do have my favorite Thanksgiving/Christmas movies, but there are other times of the year or weather conditions (I have no idea why), that I just have to watch certain movies. OK, so call me weird, you won't be the first. ;D

I have tons of movies that I love to watch over and over.
As far as seasonal movies, at Halloween I always watch some old classics like the original "Halloween," "The Changeling," and "Burnt Offerings." At Christmas I have a huge collection of movies and television specials on DVD that I watch. "A Christmas Story" is my most favorite.

I love this movie. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck at their absolute Boston best.
I'm watching it right now. Again. ;D
