I plan on fully enjoying the events my small conservative town has planned for the weekend. I even got talked into parking my barbie car with all the other sportscars from around town. Gonna enjoy the hot rod car parade (that's the parade we're having), the bbq, the live band, the shopping booths, and eventually watch the fireworks from my deck out back. Then we plan to have our own fireworks show in the cul de sac. ;D

You're right, I just may. I've met many conservatives, and more times than not, after a little bit of debate and disagreement, we manage to find things we DO agree on, we focus on those commonalities, realize both sides aren't perfect. And the next thing we know, we're FRIENDS! Wow! And neither of us are calling the other "un-American," which is icing on the cake. How many conservatives or neocons have you converted to Liberalism??

LOL! ugonow ... I said that about moderator action as a tongue-in-cheek comment since people were talking about moderators, rules, and whatnot. Of course I don't take this all that seriously. How on earth could I?

I fly the flag every Independence Day, and have an American flag on my mailbox year-round ... not being a Republican (or, a Democrat, for that matter) I guess I didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that, or entitled to do that.

In 1777, thirteen gunshots were fired, once at morning and again as evening fell, on July 4 in Bristol, Rhode Island. Philadelphia celebrated the first anniversary in a manner a modern American would find quite familiar: an official dinner for the Continental Congress, toasts, 13-gun salutes, speeches, prayers, music, parades, troop reviews, and fireworks. Ships were decked with red, white, and blue bunting. And from what I recall there were not an liberals at this first 4th Celebration but I did not want to ask the sailors or marines what poltical party they belonged to...We were all APolitical back then..

I truly hope there is always funding of some shape or form to preserve such great pieces of our history. I never appreciated it as a kid, but now I suck up every bit.

"I don't think this applies to every liberal, or that to the liberals it applies to it applies to the same degree. However, I don't think it's really up for debate. If you put Hates America at one end of a line, and Loves America at the other end of the same line and you had liberals and conservative SELF IDENTIFY where they were on that spectrum, you would find many more lefties well past the center line over on the Hates America side." I suppose I can't call you delusional after just being warned on this thread that it is against regulations.... I'll just have to think it instead...

Did you enlarge my old photo of the two ships??? In the background the red brick buildings are the old Marine Barracks but they were closed @ 20 years ago and are in disrepair...I was able to get a pass and tour the old Navy Yard

The effect doesn't fade over time.
that line does not pass the test of logic for me. if it did not fade over time, the GOP would hold every office there is by now.

PS- you can have your day of nationalistic pride.
this Republican would rather get to work solving our very serious problems then pretend for an instant that we don't have them.

Well the OP did say it increased by 4% the liklihood you would become Republican... but only by 1% the liklihood you would vote ...

No, I didn't, but did just now. Way cool.JMO,but we are way behind other countries in preserving our history.Maybe because we are the babies. I have "bought junk and sold antiques" for years and have grown to appreciate our history and the sacrifices and advances those before us have made.

Well the OP did say it increased by 4% the liklihood you would become Republican... but only by 1% the liklihood you would vote ... the implication that the improvement is permanent is galling. if it were, it would only take a decade to eliminate all other parties from representation.

One thing bothers me. Republicans in office claimed it was an insult to Christians to have to work the week before Christmas. Is it unAmerican to be working this week for them?

The USS Constitution may sail this weekend in Boston Harbor...I would love to be onboard...but I can't stand up straight below decks because the overheads and ports are so low and I am 6' 2". And the gun mounts can still be fired but without cannon balls of course..

Is it unAmerican to be working this week for them? the week, singular? advent runs longer than a week. I'd also question whether Easter week was more holy than the singular week before Christmas.
