All this math talk made me go find my college transcript. I didn’t remember Calc II as being one of my least favorite or harder math classes, but apparently I have fuzzy memory on the difficulty level as it’s one of the math classes I got a B in. Probability & Statistics was my least favorite - though it didn’t help that the professor in general had a bias towards the engineers and computer science majors who had to take the class for their majors.

No idea what my 4yo would choose, but my 8yo would pick Legos, HP stuff, maybe some Badogans, and he’d try to convince to he could buy an iPhone - and then I’d have to laugh and tell him no. Ooh, and his friends all have Nintendo Switch game systems, so probably that as well. Off topic, but I had no idea how expensive Lego sets can be! My coworker is really into those fancy sets and has a shop set up in his garage where he builds them....think Star Wars, movie sets, etc. He spent $900 on one set! If he had gotten a stimulus check (he makes too much money), I have no doubt he would have spent it on Legos, lol! Yes - they can get stupid expensive. My son likes the Harry Potter and Star Wars sets. When the HP diagonal alley set came out he asked about it - I looked at the $400 price tag and laughed and told him not happening.

Also, in petty complaints....my MIL always gives each grandchild an Easter basket with a chocolate bunny and maybe 1-2 other candy items. This year she included an Easter pic from a previous Easter of each kiddo with their name and name’s meaning on the back. Apparently the meaning of M’s name is without good fortune or unlucky. [side note - it never crossed my mind to even look at this when we named her]
M is 4-1/2 and can’t read, so I’m making the card disappear, but really?! So not something I want her to ever associate with her name. I wouldn’t have been bothered at all if she’d just not done this on M’s picture card.

So so excited - we just got an email tonight (super shocked they sent it on Easter Sunday evenings) that M was selected to be in the Spanish immersion program at her elementary school when she starts Kindergarten in August. We signed her up for the lottery, but weren’t sure she’d get in. This is only the second year, and it’s only at 2 schools in our district. Half of the spots are for kids in the school’s boundary, and half for kids in the district but out of that school’s boundary, so there were about 25 spots available for kids in our school’s boundary. And equally awesome - our next door neighbor got in as well (and his mom is a middle school Spanish teacher, so yay for having someone who can help them).
Guess this means my baby is really going to kindergarten this year. ☺️

March 2021 Update: ASSETS:
Checking/Savings: $135k House: $428k Retirement: $1.688M Brokerage: $5k 529s: $58.7k Company Stock: $205k DEBTS:
Company Stock Loan (to shareholder I'm buying stock from, at 0.52% for 7 years): $175k Total NW: $2,345,300 We're up 0.85% since last month. As usual, the list above excludes our cars, which are worth around $30k combined, but I leave them out because we're unlikely to sell, and need them to get to/from work, kids schools, etc. in the land of suburbia. Notes for me to look back on: As seen above, I had to pay the down payment on my company stock this month to officially join the shareholder group, and owe the equivalent of some mortgages to the shareholder I'm buying my shares from. But since I just bought, it's more or less a net zero for me as they're worth what I paid for them (they evaluate stock prices quarterly, so it'll probably go up slightly soon, but it takes our CFO a bit to figure that out). DH is also still shelling out money left and right for the basement remodel. Slight exaggeration, but that's what it seems like to me.

Glad to hear it's not just my house. I was a little stunned. I'm not sure I would have heard about a stimulus at that age, and I definitely wouldn't have asked my parents for mine. Their world is so different from ours. I have to say this makes ne desperately curious what my kids would buy if they got that amount of money just dumped in their lap.

Quick check-in - work has been crazy for the first part of the year, so I've been hit or miss on decluttering. We have gotten rid o some stuff - through my local buy nothing board and some stuff sold on FB. DH started work to finish our basement, so we've had to go through what was down there. Mostly just trying to not add to the clutter at this point, and make whatever progress I can when I have time.

Well we decided to take a very last minute spring break vacay next week. We were going to visit Gatlinburg (6.5 hour drive), but then we realized 4 more hours in the car and we could be at the beach in Destin. So we let the boys decide, and they unanimously voted for a beach trip. We rented a condo on the beach, so that we can have a kitchen to save $$ on food. Our plan is to spend most of the 4 days being beach bums. There are a couple shopping areas I would like to check out too. Maybe do a dolphin cruise or play some putt putt. Really, H and I just want to run away for a bit to spend time with the boys before we drown in our activity schedule. I am crossing my fingers for decent weather. We usually do not do Florida trips until at least May. The ocean's current temp is a brisk 66 degrees lol. Do you mind sharing a link to the condo you used? And if you did a dolphin cruise, which one you did? We're planning to go this summer, and trying to figure out some plans.

Managed to average at least one mile every day this week, which while not a ton, at least means I was up and moving so I’ll take it. We went to my mom’s on Thursday evening for the weekend as it was the end of spring break for my oldest, so got a ton of outside time in at her awesome town park that my kiddos love, which was good as it meant I wasn’t sitting on my tush.

Yes! I’m not tall, but also not short at 5’-6”, and the full size belly panel came up over my belly to just under my bra.

Then there is the refundable child tax credit - people that have kids get $300/month per kid? On top of the numbers listed above, people with kids will get another $3600 per kid. We have to be close to the point where having babies and working a low income job part time is better than working a higher earning job. I understand that is not permanent, but they are talking as though it will be. I will cross my fingers and hope it gets kicked out. That's for ages 6 and under, for the rest it's 3K and the credit was already 2K. Trump increased it to that from $1000 in 2018.
And sorry, I would take 150K AGI and no credit over 22K AGI any day. I don't have that option, but high earners can always just quit working if the feel the unemployed and low income have it so much better.
This is where I’m at. We haven’t been eligible for any of the stimulus checks and I’m okay with that. We don’t need it, and I’d rather not see money going to people making a similar income and up.

Funny M story. At daycare yesterday they drew a picture and were asked what makes them happy. Her answer is “I feel happy every day and sometimes I don’t.“ She then tells her teacher she feels sad when she wants more hugs and C doesn’t give them to her. LOLOLOLOL - pretty sure her big brother has never denied her a hug as he’s my hugger. It’s the opposite - he’ll ask her for a hug and she’ll tell him no or you can’t touch me. 😂🤣
But - I am glad she knows she can tell people no and that they can’t touch her without permission.

Just finished A Very Punchable Face by Colin Jost and laughed outloud so many times while reading it. I also finished it in 2 days because I enjoyed it so much. I finished this one a couple of weeks ago and also thought it was funny and enjoyable!

Traveling for work today/tomorrow. I made good food choices for lunch and dinner, so yay, and then went to the hotel gym to get some steps in on the treadmill and did a light workout with the kettlebells they had there.

Did okay last week. Got walks in, and time spent outside most days. We took a 2.5 mile walk yesterday with the kids on bike and scooter, which was awesome. And then I took the kids to out science center for the first time in over a year. Not sure we’ll go back anytime soon unless we go on a weekday because even with masks on, I was nervous with the sheer amount of people there.
Today the kids and I spent 5+ hours outside - playing, teaching the youngest (4-1/2) to ride a bike (success!), and going to the school to do more bike riding and playing.

Yesterday was crap for emotions. I put my Buster-kitty down. I ate PB cups and drank coffee in the morning to early afternoon then went and had a hamburger, sweet tater fries, and root beer with my BF. Surpassed my step goal because I took a cathartic walk at the park and had a total step count of more than 8000. Water was 6 cups out of 10 cups goal. Thinking about you. 💜

I got offered the job. Its a $35,000 per year raise. Plus other goodies. I like where i am. I interviewed at this place as a lark. This new place looks fun too. I think I'm going to jump. Is it strange i feel bad? I really like my current people. I’m behind, but congrats!! And I’ve only ever jumped ship once, but I felt bad - I really liked my boss and team, but was offered in my home state and really wanted to move there, so I did.

Since you track so well, can you tell me if you're doubling every 7 yrs or so? Like the rule of 72. Just curious as I'm watching that for my own planning having just crossed 500k. I have an old 401k and Roth IRA and they’re up between 70-80% over the last 7 years (haven’t touched either account in that time), and both are relatively small accounts. My and DH’s current 401k accounts are each up significantly more, though, over the past 7 years. Mine is up 400% and DH’s is up 300%. DH’s was/is larger, but we’re both well past the point where our 401k constructions/match have huge impacts year-to-year, so the bulk of that is market gains. Over the 7 years, my contributions/match is about 55% of my original amount, and for DH, it’s about 45%. Looking at this, I’m pretty sure I picked better funds in our current accounts that my old ones. 🤦♀️

@taz - how are you feeling? Feeling pretty good. The nausea has gone away for the most part. The food aversions for some foods is still here but definitely has lessen in the past couple of weeks. I’m 16 weeks today and Friday is my next appointment. Also for those that I’m friends with on FB, please no comments. It’s not public knowledge yet. I missed this - congrats!! So excited for you. 💜

I’m going to call most of February a bust, especially last week as one of my employees was out and I covered her stuff and my normal stuff, so worked an insane number of hours. I did commit and stick to our work challenge of a “dry” February, so I’ll take that as a win.
March’s challenge is to walk one mile per day, so I’m off to a great start! Yesterday was the treadmill after the kids were in bed, but today I went and walked over lunch.

I finished Ready Player Two this weekend. I give it a solid 'meh.' I like the first one, but this one goes deeeeeeeeeep into Nerdville - I'm pretty geeky about some things, but this went so deep that it just lost me. Like the author just wanted to show off all his useless knowledge on a few subjects, which I won't discuss for those that haven't read the book yet. Oy, I have that one coming soon from the library. I had already assumed it wasn’t going to be nearly as enjoyable as the first one. Hmmmmm.

I'm 7 books in so far for 2021. January was A Promised Land by Barack Obama, Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi (really enjoyed this one - highly recommend, and especially for anyone looking to read more by POC), Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner, and Beach Read by Emily Henry.
February by The Making of a Manager by Julie Zhuo, Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years by Julie Andrews (not as good as her first memoir Home), and A Very Pinchable Face by Colin Jost (funny!).
I'm in the middle of a couple of others, so I should hopefully at least finish 2 books for March.

Checking/Savings: $166k House: $428k Retirement: $1.669M Brokerage: $5k 529s: $57.6k

We're up 2.56% since last month, which is better than last month's percentage change!

Notes for me to look back on:
We are in the middle of our major home improvement project this month to finish out most of our unfinished basement, so lots of money has been spent at the home improvement store.

Lol, drama! C figured it out early, which probably means M will believe in Santa, Tooth Fairy and everything else until she’s a teenager. Okay, maybe not quite that long.
