Thanks for the update, rae! Glad the appropriate staff are on it and escalating to hopefully help make sure it doesn’t happen in the future.

Ugh, that stinks Rae. Awesome that he handled it so well, but absolutely horrible that the sub said something like that. Any chance you can also send an email to the principal and maybe whatever assistant superintendent is over staff, and ask them to address this with the sub so something like this doesn’t happen to him again or any other kids in the future?

Just heard from the locals that when the Sprint/T-Mobile campus opens to employees (likely to be late October) EVERYONE must show proof of vaccination to enter- employees, contractors visitors. Not sure what they'll do for people who have valid medical reasons not to be vaccinated but that's good news. And... the CEO of UBS, a very large Switzerland-based financial firm with offices all over the world, has said that anyone not vaccinated may apply to work from home. He said that about 2/3 of jobs can be done remotely. I have an advisor at UBS- he lives in NJ and the last time I saw him was when I was in Westchester County on business for a job I left almost 10 years ago. Parents of my kids’ friends work at Sprint/T-Mobile and we were talking about it this weekend while at the park. Their oldest has leukemia (he’s a couple of years into treatment and doing well), so they’re both vaccinated and very happy about this. Their kiddos are the same age as mine, so too young to be vaccinated. They think (guidelines/rules keep changing) that they are not going to let people work from home just because they’re not vaccinated, so we’ll see if this incentivizes more employees to get the vaccine. Tyson Foods is doing something similar - employees, contractors, vendors, etc must all be vaccinated to be on any of their sites.

Sounds like Abby is going to be so excited, drama - yay!
I have an extra blush brush and an eyeshadow blending brush that I keep on my bathroom counter with my other makeup stuff. M loves to use those and “apply” makeup. I’ll be sad when she realizes that she’s not doing anything other than touching her face with an empty makeup brush, but I’ll continue to enjoy the cuteness of it while it lasts. It also cracks me up that she always asks permission first. 🥰

It's the end of the month, so here's my August 2021 update:
ASSETS:
Checking/Savings: $152,565 House: $512.7k Retirement: $1.941M Brokerage: $5.7k 529s: $72.8k Company Stock: $208k
DEBTS:
Company Stock Loan (to shareholder I'm buying stock from, at 0.52% for 7 years): $175k
Total NW: $2,718,912
We're up about 2.65% over last month.
As usual, the list above excludes our cars, which are worth around $30k combined, but I leave them out because we're unlikely to sell, and need them to get to/from work, kids schools, etc. in the land of suburbia.

Will be happy when the two little ones,7,5, can get vaccine Oh, I agree! DS’ in-laws have been great about including them in safe family vacations- a rented condo in Breckenridge, camping- but the little ones are 7, 5 and 3. And the latest from the KC Ballet is that they won’t allow under-12s to performances and I was hoping to take them all to The Nutcracker this Christmas. I can see why rented houses/condos are so popular now. I’m currently planning to attend an event at the Kauffman next month and I’m really impressed by their COVID policy that all in-person attendees have to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.

Any tips for teaching my newly turned 5yo to blow her nose? She’s got allergies and is seriously struggling with the stopped up nose. Nothing I’ve tried has worked so far for it to click for her.

We went to New Orleans, LA; Gulfport, MS; Pensacola, FL; and Mobile, AL for 8 nights at the end of July/beginning of August.
Flights for 4: $1000 Rental Car/Transportation/Gas: $605 Hotels: $875 (used points for 3 nights in Pensacola)
Food: $725 (combo of eating out and grocery pick up order; if our hotel didn't have free breakfast, we ate granola bars and/or fruit) Parking: $6.75 (used a bunch of points from work travel to cover almost all of our airport parking) Excursions/Fun Stuff: $665 (aquariums, zoos, USS Alabama, etc - we also used our local science center pass to get free entry to a couple of kids/science centers; we were supposed to do a dolphin boat ride, but a storm cancelled it and we couldn't reschedule that, so ended up spending less than expected here)
Total: $3877

As activities gear back up I'm so annoyed at myself for not doing more in the house and around the yard the last 18 months. What were we doing?!? I don't see how I will ever feel caught up. Same. I got some stuff done, but not nearly enough.

First day of school for my kiddos today. We do have a mask mandate per our school board, so I was happy when that happened late last week. M is in kindergarten and C is in 4th grade. Pic for those not on FB.

We met with the school social worker and she suspects he is on the spectrum. She's going to put us in touch with the special ed department. Feeling a little better at least knowing the school wants to work with us, but still emotionally wrung out and feeling down that he is having so much trouble adjusting. Is he getting enough sleep? When my oldest started kindergarten, I wasn’t prepared for how tired and exhausted he was at the end of each school day. Some nights I literally sent him to bed at like 6pm because he was a crankpot and needed sleep. My youngest starts and Thursday and I’m mentally preparing myself for the start of earlier bedtimes again.

Checking in - we just got back yesterday from 8 nights/9 days in the south, aka what has turned into a Delta variant covid hotspot (which wasn't the case when I booked everything 5 months ago, naturally). We ended up deciding to go as we all needed a break, and much of our plans were outdoors. We visited New Orleans, Gulfport, Mobile and Pensacola and mostly had fun exploring everything, though I definitely wanted to strangle my kids a few times, and DH, for that matter. Mask use was definitely not high enough by most of the people we saw. I was really impressed with the Louisiana Children's Museum on mask use, though - they required it of everyone over the age of 2, and I heard staff reminding people when they weren't compliant.
M's last day of daycare is tomorrow - we ended up sending her today/tomorrow as her absolute favorite teacher has been on vacation for the last 3 weeks, and wanted to see her again. While I'm excited to only have before/after care fees, I'm still feeling a little sad and bittersweet that this is the end. Our center has been a really great fit for our family, and my kids have received wonderful care there, plus we've made some amazing friends with other kids/their families over the years. We don't live close to our center, so the kids will not be in the same school, which is okay. But definitely bittersweet. M will likely be back there next summer as I don't think she'll be old enough for the local day camps - she turns 5 at the end of August, and most of the camps require you to have completed kindergarten and be 6 - she won't be 6 until after 1st grade starts next year.
We find out the kids' teachers this weekend. We already know that M "won" the Spanish immersion lottery, so I know which 2 teachers she will have, but don't know which kids will be in her section. Our next door neighbor's son also got in, so we're hoping those 2 are in the same class. And C is just hoping that his BFF is in his 4th grade class - no teacher preference.

IDK if graphing calculators are still a thing. IMO those should go and students learn to use Excel which can do the exact same things in a fraction of the time and is a skill you can put on your resume. NEVER! I refuse to give up my graphing calculator - I got mine freshman year in high school (so 1995), and that thing is still going strong! Even though I don't use most of the graphing functions these days, I still love it and when it dies, I will absolutely buy a new one. #engineernerd

I just looked up our first day of school. All along, I've been thinking it is Wednesday, 8/26 because it always starts on a Wednesday. Not this year! First day is Thursday 8/27! Similar here! We always start on Wednesday, but for whatever reason, we're starting Thursday, 8/12 this year. One week to go!

July 2021 Update:
ASSETS: Checking/Savings: $149,536 House: $512.7k Retirement: $1.876M Brokerage: $5.6k 529s: $69.3k Company Stock: $208k
DEBTS: Company Stock Loan (to shareholder I'm buying stock from, at 0.52% for 7 years): $175k
Total NW: $2,647,906
We're up less than 1% since last month. As of the date I updated everything in my spreadsheet (7/31), DH officially had 2 commas in his 401k account (he's been at the same employer from college, so his entire retirement savings except for the Roth IRA is in the one 401k, which makes it easy), so that was exciting - now we'll see if it's still true when August ends. ;-)
As usual, the list above excludes our cars, which are worth around $30k combined, but I leave them out because we're unlikely to sell, and need them to get to/from work, kids schools, etc. in the land of suburbia.

I’ve been traveling again since June 2020 - we do building design, and have to visit sites to review the work done to make sure it complied with the construction and permit docs, and/or do scopes to confirm what is on site before we do design. It’s been fine - I’ve actually felt okay as last year people seemed to comply better with airport/airplane masking requirements and my clients require masking on sites by contractors and their employees.
The major conferences I typically attend are still virtual, so no travel for those.
I don’t typically travel to our other offices, but that travel is very slowly starting to happen again. We have a principals meeting next month that was supposed to be in person for the first time in a couple of years at our corporate HQ (which is where I’m located, so I wasn’t going to need to travel), but they just announced it’ll now be virtual. Though if the non-locals have already booked travel and want to still fly/drive in, they can, but will have to use zoom for the meeting like everyone else.

$10/hour is the minimum I’ve seen in KC. And then add $5/hour/kid on top of that.
That said, I’ve only ever hired a favorite daycare teacher, and she always tries to tell me I pay too much as I give her $20/hour. I know she’s working for peanuts at the daycare, my kids (especially M) adore her, and they’re in great hands, so she’s worth every penny.

I’ll bite. We’re going to New Orleans, Gulfport, and Pensacola later this month. It’ll be DH, DS (9) and DD (4). Anyone have any food or things to do recommendations? We have hotels booked.

We're up over 2.4% since last month, which is basically all market gains. DH is *this* close to having 2 commas in his 401k account (he's been at the same employer from college, so his entire retirement savings except for the Roth IRA is in the one 401k, which makes it easy).

Hang in there, ava!
It definitely stinks when you see other people with things you don't have and/or things you want. For me, it helps to remind myself that in many cases, they may be in debt up to their eyeballs, or not saving for retirement, and that just isn't something I'm comfortable doing. I also try to do something to recharge my batteries when I feel like that - in my case, curl up with a good book, go for a long walk, or do something low-key and fun with my friends or family.
Would it help you feel better about where you're at retirement-wise if you posted your retirement savings and what it's invested in for everyone here to have fun reviewing? I can't remember if you've done that before or not.

Blurgh - M went to a birthday party at a local pool for a daycare friend. I asked the mom what he wanted/needed and she said no gift needed, just her going was enough. I got him a birthday card, had M sign it and write his name, and we took that. Every other kid brought a gift and they opened gifts during the party. 🤦♀️🤷♀️ Seriously - I would have put in a gift card or gotten him something if I had known that. I don’t know if I’m the only one who asked or no one else listened.

That stinks, steph, and I would definitely be upset. I'm possibly projecting here, but I also think you might have fallen into the oft-cited statistic that women only apply for jobs when they are 100% qualified, while men will apply if they are only 60% qualified. It's definitely okay to say you're interested in a job and apply, even if you don't meet all the qualifications.
Related/not related - my company is restructuring, and I'm going to have to apply and interview for the first time in over 14 years (all previous internal promotions/job changes previously have just happened, no applying or interviewing). I'm applying for a couple of positions in 2 different sectors, but both are the same level and I'd apply to the sector executive for either one. I had breakfast with one of the sector executives a couple of weeks ago and made the comment to him that I don't have all of the qualifications listed for the director position I'm applying for (and I'd report to him in one of them, if I was offered it and accepted). He immediately came back and said that didn't matter - he had no doubt I could learn what I didn't know, and I had experience with the items I specifically mentioned at a lower level.
Good luck in your decision! I'd probably at least look, and then decide whether to stay or go based on any offers I got. Or wait to decide until after you talk to your EVP, but it sounds like you might not trust what they have to say.
