I think there will be a major police presence in D.C. which hopefully will prevent an explosion. I am not sure about other sites around the country. This is so disgusting that the President of our country not only is egging it on but called for it in the first place. If there are counter protesters there and throughout the country, I think their chant should be: Nah Nah, Nah Nah Nah Nah, Say Hey, Good-bye

Time to invoke the 25th Amendment. Before he does any more damage than he's already done.

I was also thinking about this: House conservatives strategize with Trump and Pence in push to challenge Biden's winWill it be a two pronged attack on our democracy? Will they feed on each other? Georgia will have voted in their run-off elections but results won't be finalized by the time Congress starts the Electoral College vote reporting process. How will that developing situation feed into what happens? If reports suggest the GOP is likely to lose control of the Senate, will that worsen the political situation? Change what happens on the street?

I wish I knew. It's so frustrating and is creating anxiety. This is all induced by trump, not needed at all. A shame that such as him can inspire violence in so many people. I never thought I would see such as this happen.

Holy Crap! What happens at the local level when they take their "wild" protesting to their local area? - because they cannot travel to WDC??
I'm generally not afraid of traditional protestors - they carry signs (and maybe stuff to throw - like rocks and bottles...which I'm assuming doesn't cause loss of life or life threatening injuries)
I suspect trump's people will be carrying guns (and possibly bombs or driving their car/truck into things)? That frightens me. I'm not calling them protestors because this feels more like a coup - than a protest.

I live in a very blue area. The only trump supporters being obnoxious here would have to travel in from the red areas (about an hour away). I don't expect anything much to happen in my suburb.
I'm hoping trump doesn't push some nut job to do something stupid and kill people - at say a Federal courthouse or Town Hall or some other public space.
I don't know how many people will actually go to WDC. There have been thousands (maybe 10 or less)for some of the other "protests" in WDC... I haven't heard that the crowds have been growing. The weather forecast for Washington DC is 40's and rainy/snowy - it's more than 10 days away - but it's winter... and WDC shuts down if they any sort of snow or ice... the weather may put a damper on any crowds.
I'm gonna predict trump will have some "core" group(s) show up so maybe a thousand or so? if the weather is bad - maybe the diehard 100 or so.
I'm more concerned about what might happen "locally" when a group decides to try be like the outpouring of people that happened with the Black Lives Matter protests.
I'm guessing we will see if being a white supremacist/nationalist or believing conspiracy theories or if the belief that the election was tampered with is widespread and is OK with the majority of Republicans (or perhaps that Republicans ALL really believe that stuff). If more than the fringe Republicans turn out for mass gatherings locally on Jan 6th... we will know.
I guess it comes down to how good the "grass roots" groups are at organizing "protests" and getting the word out to more than just their core AND how well their 'cause' motivates people not directly affiliated with their group(s) to show up and "protest" at their gathering.
I would think gathering at the local level all across America would be something the Republicans would do if they truly think the election is invalid.
Anyone else remember the millions of people in Cities across America for the Women's march after trump was elected?? I'm sure some of them were expecting to be celebrating Hillary Clinton's win.. but I'm also thinking LOTS of additional people turned out because trump won. I know I went on the spur of the moment and so did lots of my neighbors and coworkers (from other parts of the surrounding suburbs).
Are enough Republicans upset by the election to turn out locally in droves?

Sadly I agree. Many of them could use some of those "non" lethal possibly significant damage bullets shot at them if they carry on like gun carrying aholes.

We recently had an incident in Olympia where far righties and far lefties both showed up with long guns. A righty shot a leftie. A through and through back to front. The leftie already had a police issue over a broken window incident during a protest.
These early skirmishes are troubling when you have a divisive individual riling up one side of that two headed monster. Civil war anyone?

Trump and his minions are tremendously incompetent, for all their evil. I don't think much will come off it. Yes, there'll be some protests and isolated incidents before it fizzles out and we finally go back to normal.

Looking at the process that will take place on the 6th:
VP Pence will open an envelope with a state's electoral votes, someone will read them, Pence will ask if there are objections, for some states a written objection will be handed to him signed by at least one Representative and 9ne Senator, he will send the House and Senate to separate chambers with a two hour time limit to report back whether they uphold or reject the objection, during each of the two hour sessions members can talk for no longer than 5 minutes. So here is what I am curious about - What do the Democrats do in those 2 hour sessions in the Democratic controlled House? The Republican controlled Senate?
I think in the House they should have one member say, "We will not be overturning this state's certified results" and then wait out whatever the GOP does and then vote to reject the objection. In other words, don't get drawn into any debate on conspiracy theories. I think in the Senate, members should offer personal stories about times they watched Joe work across the aisle and what a great President he will be.

If they are gun carrying *ssholes (and that would not surprise me) I suggest the non-lethal/rubber bullets are skipped as their response will definitely not be as "nice" or safe for the police officers

bills- normally I would object to that as not being part of due process. but in this case, I would rather just say "let's do what we have always done. in every election in my lifetime, we accepted the state certified results, and I see no reason to not do that this time".
so, I am in agreement with your idea.

Does he ask if there are objections after each State's electoral votes are opened and read? How many 2 hour session will there be? I'm guessing at least 4. Does everyone have to STAY until the final count and Pence's final announcement? Is there some loop hole the trump party hopes to exploit that occurs during the 2 hour sessions that can somehow effect the outcome? If it's one 2 hour session per state - will every Republican won state object making the counting last for days? (Is there some time limit on when the electoral votes must be counted and can the Republicans push the count past that time limit?) OK. I guess I need to google....

I have heard an estimate of "up to 18 hours" for this procedure. I am not sure how they arrived at that number.

(Is there some time limit on when the electoral votes must be counted and can the Republicans push the count past that time limit?) OK. I guess I need to google.... With it being clearly stated I am not a definitive authority, I will give what I think are "correct" answers. Yes to after each state and they split immediately to discuss. The written objections have to offer a basis for the why the votes should not be accepted. The substance of that can not be debated except in the split systems but should be a limiting factor in how many and which states are challenged. Georgia and Pennsylvania are locks. Arizona, Michigan and Nevada likely. Not sure who else. So I count 5 objections. A quorum would need to be retained but not sure force would be used if someone tried to leave.I assume there will be reasonable breaks taken for movement, bathroom and perhaps meals. With Pence presiding, I think decisions will be made that make it less painful. A Democrat could be more, "You want to drag this out? We will do it into the night while there is less of an audience for you." I have read nothing that has offered anything other than this will not change the result of Biden being elected. At this link www.npr.org/2020/12/22/949134479/congress-role-in-election-results-heres-what-happens-jan-6 there is a link in the paragraph "If a senator does go along with a challenge, then the House and Senate retire to their own chambers, for a period of "not more than two hours," according to the Congressional Research Service, and members get up to five minutes to speak in favor or against the objection." which takes you to a great pdf file report.

bills- I watched quite a bit of news last night. one of the broadcasts I came across was from a couple nights ago on the Maddow show, and she is in full panic mode about the 6th. the words martial law were uttered quite a bit, and she seemed really shaken.
question to you: how worried are you? you don't seem very worried.

Can we change the feeling word "worried" for a minute? How about, what do you think is the likelihood that Donald Trump will hold onto Presidential power beyond January 20th? I see it as very unlikely. No matter what he does, he will not have the official backing necessary to govern. As far as my feelings? I am worried as hell about what he will attempt and how others will act over the next two months. I think there will be bloodshed and while it will be primarily fool's blood, unfortunately it will be innocent blood as well as some from those defending our nation as well.

for myself, it is difficult to separate my thoughts and feelings on this. they are deeply intertwined. normally, I am very much up in my head: calculating the odds of this or that. but in this case, I am just plainly worried. Trump and his supporters represent an existential threat to everything I hold dear about the US. he can not disappear soon enough.

I'm hoping, fingers crossed...that the weather will put a damper on many who might otherwise get out to do meanness or damage.

We can hope it’s irrational. Possible or was observation of protocols but I’m hoping they arent that smart or organized.

Studying operational protocols used in Nashville, TN on Christmas morning and applying them for attacks in a location like Washington DC on January 6th. I hope they are that smart and organized.
