It's time for me to rant. I went to Rite Aid with my 3 scenarios. Not much, very doable and not greedy. When I walked in the door I saw a woman with a bigger than life binder - like J'Aime's on the Extreme Coupon show and my heart went to the floor. I went to get the toothbrush (just one) that would end up costing me 0 dollars. The shelf was cleared of all of them. Then I went for the next item and was so upset because, you guessed it, the shelf was cleared. I had had it. I went to the cashier ( the hoarder was still in line) and politely stated the shelves were empty. She shook her head yes. The next thing I did was not so polite. (remember by this time I had it) and I shot the hoarder lady the dirtiest look I could muster. I have the patience of a saint, until I reach my fill. It was reached. I left without anything and am rethinking some things. I have a stock and don't need anything, I wanted to donate the things today. But my donating days may be over.
I'm so upset, I'm spitting fire. Greed disgusts me.

I closed down my blog because the government is at this moment deciding to make copy right infringement policies on the Internet. I put things on the blog that I copy (pictures, Youtube). Since I'm not an attorney, I don't know what is infringement and what isn't.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. And, isn't this the game you suggested everyone play? For what it's worth, I've always believed people who buy more than they need for the sake of a deal are hoarders and are ruining coupons for everyone.

Wait, wait, wait. Let me make sure I'm understanding this; you're pissed because somebody got to the store and bought a bunch of stuff they probably don't need which kept you from buying a bunch of stuff that you don't need? Like... really?

Yep, what she's doing is hoarding.
But from what I understand, you are couponing and donating overage to foodbanks, which is a very, very decent thing to do. You are doing volunteer work, and pretty much anyone who does volunteer work runs into some jerk who threatens to ruin their generous spirit.
Maybe, just maybe that hoarder is planning on donating some of her cache to the foodbank too.
Keep up the good work - you are doing a very good thing.

Yes the game is good, if played correctly. I think it's the greed that really gets to me. I have only one toothbrush. I only use aspirin, toothpaste ( and baking soda), shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and other basic items/ The rest I donate to Hospice. I felt good about doing that. Like I was paying back their kindness to us. My coupons are one or 2 (if my daughter has them) when I buy something. My 'binder' is an envelope I saved from the mail coming in. I will continue to play the game. Not as a greedy participant, but as a responsible shopper. responsible to everyone that I could effect. That includes other shoppers. And I totally agree that this will ruin couponing for everyone.

Really? Then what's up with the bolded part below?
Why is it just a stock when you do it, but it's hoarding when other people do it?

Not that I doubt you in your description of the person, but is it possible that there wasn't much on the shelf to begin with? I have heard of empty shelves around here but if I ask they almost always say that they didn't get much stock in or the wharehouse didn't send them enough. Are there really people trolling around looking for 20 toothbrushes and a hundred bottles of mustard? I live in tourist land so aside from bottled water and sunscreen there really isn't much stock of anything. Then last week at CVS they had tons of the Preperation H that was on sale. I sure hope they don't know something I don't.

I'm not arguing with you. I don't have a stock like you think. I have a drawer. It's just a buzz word. One set of shampoo and rinse, one deodorant, etc.
What bee's in your bonnet? Have I done something to offend you in the past? You attack everything I say.

As far as I can remember this is the first time I've ever disagreed with you and it's nothing personal. Your first post just struck me as a bit hypocritical.

I agree with dark's posts. I think you are upset that she got yo them first.
You dont sound any different than the person you call a hoarder and forgive me if i choose not to believe you only have 1 of each item and you donate the rest! Even i have more than 1 of these items and i dont even coupon.

DARK: That's one thing I'm not. Perhaps my communication skills are altered by my anger. Or perhaps, they aren't good at all. I'm the one you attacked saying I was prejudice a year or so ago until I explained that as an Italian child in the 50's I knew what people felt like when prejudice was placed on them.
Two other posters made good comments that were helpful, contributing to lowering my anger level.

Just bash away without thought.

You know how sometimes you can just feel it? I rarely feel the greed for things. I have seen a few people at the grocery store buying an unusual amount of one thing like mustard. I guess I am naive but I always assume that they have a hot dog stand or something and don't have the credit for a regular supplier. By me this is really not as far fetched as it sounds. I love to use coupons for things I buy. I also have a few extra of most things so if I run out I don't have to get a replacement right away. But I don't think I have ever been greedy about it. I really just see the coupons as a means to an end. I have been knows to get greedy when it comes to school supplies though. For some reason that is my weakness. I don't keep much of the extra though! I give it all away to a couple of teacher friends. And I ask every summer if they would like them again in Sept and they always say yes so I don't think I have become the crazy lady pushing school supplies yet.

Thank you for the apology (somewhat of one is better than none). Don't mention it, after over a decade of marriage giving half assed apologies for stuff I don't even remember doing is sort of a specialty of mine.

I don't know if anyone remembers but I had a thread, on the old EE, about feeling greedy about buying all the super cheap school supplies from the sales in the summer. The staples etc one that have folders for 1 cent. A notebook for a dime etc. For some reason I can't resist that stuff. I do have a healthy stash of school supplies on the shelf in my closet. It is not a hoard by anything I would think, but I have had thoughts last year that I could almost start a school in some village somewhere. My kids friends do know now that if they need something like a notebook or something to ask my DD and she will give it to them. My area doesn't have a lot of need but there are a few kids who don't come from means. They would get constant detentions for not having a notebook or binder. It is not just about the money here. The person needs to have a car and the time off from work to get in the car and drive 20-30 miles on a highway so the kid just can't do it themself.

Since I'm not an attorney, I don't know what is infringement and what isn't. I'm not an attorney either, buy copyright laws are not that complicated. If you download and post a picture that you have not taken and you did not get permission from the picture's owner, you may be violating copyright laws. If the source has a statement that it's OK to do so, then it is not copyright infringement. Or if you ask for and receive permission to download and post the picture, then it's also not copyright infringement.

I'm sorry - that sucks. I went to Rite Aid this weekend and picked up a few things for free or practically free to donate. I'm not a hoarder but I will get items I don't need in order to give them away. That's a heck of a lot different than what it sounds like this lady was doing.

I need to get the rules straight here.
If a YM'er cleans out the shelves, it's OK as long as he/she is going to donate part or all of the "stuff".
If a YM'er cleans out a shelf, it's not "hoarding". It's "stockpiling".
If the person in front of a YM'er cleans out a shelf, it's "hoarding". And it's NOT OK even if they are going to donate the stuff.
Have I got this straight? ;D

You can't eat the supplies or keep clean with them. I think your motives are pure. That's what counts. You share. A hoarder doesn't want to share.
