Apparently to be a good parent I need a large mini-van so my kids can be safe & sit rear-facing.
Don't bother, I have a Honda Odyssey and our rear-facing Britax Marathon is still smushed up against the front passenger seat (unless it's moved way up). We have the seat the car seat is attached to reclined quite a bit so he has foot room. Not sure if that's a no-no or not.

Angel D - I have a Honda Fit. The front seats are all the way back. The roundabout 55 is in the center of the back seat, rear-facing and it does not touch the front seats.
For the keyfit to not touch, we had both seats up one click, again positioned in the center. I'm guessing if/when we have #2, my knees will be close to the dash ;D

OT - I'll chime in on this. My favorite recommendation was peanut butter. When DD was a baby, it was "recommended" that kids have have PB until after 1 or 2 b/c of the likelyhood of allergies. I knew that was b/s, and DD liked PB & J, so she got it. Then about 6 months ago, I read an article that said new research showed that kids should have PB before age 1, and the delayed introduction of PB actually lead to HIGHER peanut allergies! LOL **rolling eyes**
Our daycare called freaking out a couple months ago. Apparently DS had stolen a PB&J sandwich from one of the other kids and ate a bunch of it. I asked if he was having any kind of reaction besides being pissed off at having it taken away, and they said no. So I told her not to worry about it. I was more careful with the first kid, this one I let him eat whatever.

My doctor recommended peanut butter because my daughter was underweight. I asked about allergies, and he sort of blew off any concerns. Neither of us are allergic, and she didn't show any signs of a peanut allergy - so we went with it.

My doctor told me not to give DS any peanuts until he was 7! I had no intention of following that advice.

Ds would only eat PB&J for lunch for like FOREVER. Got a note from his daycare asking me to vary his diet. I sent a rather terse note back saying that if they could get him to eat anything else, welcome to it. Spoke to pediatrician about it and he said not to worry. He had 5 kids and one of them would ONLY eat PB&J and hot dogs for like 3 years. I felt better after that, kind of. Well, he is 27 now and eats fine, has no weight issues or allergies so I guess that's that.

She told me that was the current recommendation given the proliferation of peanut allergies. Although, it appears that is not the recommendation that most doctors are giving based on these posts. I figure the kid is either going to be allergic or not & I'm not going to try to kill myself keeping the peanuts away until he is 7, might as well find out earlier than later.

Geez the only no-nos on my Pediatrician's list were: chocolate, milk, orange juice and I forgot the fourth one. That was at 6 months.
Now it's just no milk because she isn't developed enough to digest the lactose, that's only a couple months away. If she was 20 lbs I could start her on milk now. A year or 20 lbs, whichever one comes first.
Otherwise I could feed her whatever we wanted to as long as it wasn't something she could choke on (like a nut) and then he recommended waiting 3-5 days before introducing a new food in case she did have a reaction.

In 2000, the doctors group advised mothers of infants with a family history of allergies to avoid certain foods when breastfeeding. On that list were cow's milk, eggs, fish, peanuts and tree nuts. The AAP also released a recommended schedule for introducing certain risky foods into baby's diet. So, mothers who ate the forbidden foods while nursing or who didn't follow the recommended schedule for introducing certain foods might feel responsible when their child develops food allergies. Except now the AAP says there is no real evidence that avoiding these foods while nursing lowers kid's risk of developing allergies. They also say there is no proof that delaying the introduction of certain foods such as eggs, fish or peanut butter prevents allergies. www.parentdish.com/2008/01/07/aap-issues-new-advice-on-kids-allergies/:-)

I'm sure the wheat bread isn't negating all that fat intake.

so if you are in a little car and have to put the passenger seat way fwd in order to fit the rear facing seat resulting in the front passenger being WAY to close to the air bags.... whose hypothetical life is more important??? And which safety recommendation do you follow?? Personally I would turn the child seat fwd and make everyone comfortable and maximally safe according to the available safety features.
We all survived not having air bags too. a lot of people haven't survived HAVING air bags, not all safety features make sense all the time.

drama probably honey, they rec no honey until 2 because of the botulism risk that kids are more susceptible to, but they may have increased the age to 5?? The other thing is hotdogs and popcorn-because of choking risks not allergies or anything. Several kids die every year because of popcorn.

Drama, my Dr said as long as the kid is healthy and has no apparent allergies the only thing they want parents to hold off on are honey, as DVM said, and shellfish. My son was allergic to dairy but we found that out way before we would have given milk to him. Dairy is in everything practically. Dry milk is used as a stabilizer in tons of things like crackers, cookies and other baked goods. Was I really supposed to not let him eat a cracker till he was over a year old?
