Firstly, I think the recommendation was for one thread per user per day.
Secondly, it would be a Market Talk -specific limitation.
Thirdly, I doubt the measure would have the intended effect.
I propose the following alternative solution:
1. Count the number of adjacent two-letter pairs in each poster's username. For example, the 'll' in billisonboard. Let the number be x. 2. Limit each poster to creating 3-x threads per week.
Fair? Fair.
I'll get right on it.

I think this would also promote cloning accounts. JMO Didn't see this before, Rose (until i saw it quoted). but per the CoC, cloning would result in banning of the person. i would think (hope) it wouldn't be worth it.

Maybe "cloning" isn't the right term... where someone sets up more than one account? I could see some people setting up multiple accounts in order to post more than their allotted amount...

Size 4+ fonts have been disabled. If anyone has legitimate uses for huge fonts, please note them here.

Any way to list the views to posts ratio - it might give an idea interest in the post.

This does not reflect the percentage of posts by the author or contributors. I could post to myself all day, with no contribution from others. If a thread is not interactive...it is not interesting ...is it?
Since views can be manipulated...and we may agree or disagree with an author but we really do not know if there is interest .

A simple click on a thread will show you how many individuals are posting.

I was sitting here wishing for a emoticon of a person playing a violin and realized that sometimes it is better to not get what you wish for because it will just get you in trouble.

Is there any way to add a 'search' box to look for a certain thread title in order to find a previous post of someone's you know is there instead of having to scroll back through previous pages to find that thread?
ETA: Never mind - I just found it at the bottom of the page (I thought originally that was just for Google and web search)

I see no reason to limit the vast majority of people to starting one thread per day. We have several posters on Smart Spending who've started multiple posts ~ and all were really worthwhile. Heck, I've been known to start as many as (gasp) five or six threads in a day. Anyway, that's my vote ... a limit of 6-10 new threads per 24-hour-period.... fewer would be stifling.

If we are serious about the limitation of..then I am against any limitation...the purpose of the zone is discussion, whether for fun as in the EE, financial in the money or in the political. While there are over 1000 members here now, except for EE, it seems a limited # seem to be the ones active, and the more threads to discuss, ideas is what it's all about. If one isn't interested in the topics they are skipped and fall to the nether world of uninteresting threads. If they are inappropriate there are moderators who are available to handle that and on that, I see little intrusions by them on the zone, a occasional nudge or chastisement, so few time outs. Remember the old, and over all , a nice fast moving zone of ideas and thoughts and for the most part, rarely any heavy negatives back and fourths and antagonism on the personals. Where occasionally happening, quickly brought under control, and the disagreements on ideas for the great majority, just that, semi respectfully in the worst and the majority of cases done respectfully. In other words what we have here now seems to be working just fine IMHO.

There's also a button "search this board" to the right of the page numbers at the top of the thread. When you click on it, though, it says "search this thread".

Agreed that NO limits on new threads are needed. But if there WERE to be limits, I'm advocating a high number, that's all.

The exhault function is broken. I've given the same person their 18th karma point 3 times in 2 days.

Could we come up with some way to earn our way out of bans, or something?? Maybe a time frame, a good deed, something?? I already have one, and don't like posting scared all the time. Yeah, that sounds really Jr. High, but, IMO, unless someone threatens to kill someone or something, so are bans. (At least we don't have to worry about saying potty words, unless we say them AT someone, which is what I did, JOKING with someone I always joke with.) ((Who did not care and laughed when I came back and apologized after my ban was up.))

When I was student teaching (in a junior high school), I had a student get really upset with me. He had disrupted class for the umpteen time and, after a brief discussion, I informed him he had a detention. He said, "But I said I was sorry." I told him, "You always say you are sorry but still do the behavior over and over again." He had clearly learned from somewhere (family?) you can do whatever you want as long as it is followed by mouthing the words, "I'm sorry."

(Not that I plan to get banned again, but a life ((death)) sentence sounded extreme to me. Glad you agree!!)

That's more than fair, in my opinion. For the most part, people who are banned from a message board have been banned from other message boards before. There is the rare exception ... the person who makes a mistake and pays for it, then holds to the CoC and doesn't offend again. For the majority, it would seem to me if you've been banned by several message boards, it would occur to you to look to yourself for the problem rather than at the message board on which you're currently posting.

Never been banned either. If one keepa getting banned no matter whcih board sesms the common denominator is the person who continues to do what gets one banned.
