Since the Trump/Harris debate is tomorrow I think we need a thread on it. I think if Trump stays cool he''ll win.

When has trump ever kept his cool? He has always been his worst enemy. Harris's best bet is to let him rant and rave, call everyone names, lie and not talk about any issues. Same as his fundraisers.

In a New York Times/Siena College poll released on Sunday, the race is effectively tied, within the margin of error. Few likely voters – less than 10% – said they feel like they need to learn more about Trump in the poll. More than a quarter, 28%, said they need to learn more about Harris, perhaps suggesting she has more room to grow, or fall, after being given the chance to face off against Trump. link Trump is Trump. How Harris comes across is what will matter. She needs to convince voters she is a capable and competent person they can trust with the presidency. If she can do that, she will gain from the debate.

What does "win" mean? How is it being defined?

What does "win" mean? How is it being defined? Who won?? We'll have to see what all the political pundits say who did the best after the debate like the Trump/Biden debate.

I think if Trump stays cool he''ll win. other than possibly the Biden debate, i don't think he has ever won one before. do you? i am not just saying this because i dislike Trump. but he is not a very good debater, imo. in any case, TRUMP thinks he is going to crush her. which is important to remember. because it is so very unlikely that he will.

I think Trump is capable of remaining cool for 90 minutes, but I also know he’s in panic mode right now, which makes him much more likely to go off on some weird sidebar.

I dont' think he will destroy her but he will be the dominate one. No matter how off topic he may travel she will start to cackle like a hyena and show weakness. Outside of some wishy washy liberals most Americans want a strong leader one that will project strength she doesn't do it. The Democrats would have been better off not debating after this debate he should be able to take the swing states. It may not show it in the polls but come voting day it will

All she has to do is shake her head in disgust and say "same ole Trump playbook" to every stupid thing he says. Strong leader? You mean like whinning for 4 years about losing an election? But I do love it when Republicans sound so optimistic. Remember the big red wave of 2022?

I didn’t know a strong leader whined about how normal things are “unfair”. Conservatives must have a definition of strong that is different than the dictionary’s

That is how she will be perceived. Trump is a strong leader and a bully that is what makes him so good for the position. Many on here will disagree but the US will need a bully of a president instead of a pathetic pos that Obama was.

I will caution people not to play a drinking game where you take a shot when Trump lies. You likely do not have enough alcohol in your house, and you could die from alcohol poisoning

What you are saying is you and people who think similar to you will decide laughing is a sign of weakness. I laugh for many reasons, none of them are about fear. I laugh because it is funny and sometimes perhaps while doing something difficult, like now balancing on my bad knee. I won't perceive her as anything but a woman with a good sense of humor if she laughs. Bullies aren't strong people. Maybe you've never told one or more of them off in your life, but I have. People who throw tantrums can be scary, but that is showing their weakness. A true strong person manages to stay in control of themselves especially in public. I fail to see what is strong or desirable about being in an interview and then going on a long tangent about mosquitos running around. Even Pence could do better than Trump is that regard.

The Borowitz Report
Trump Backs Out of Debate After Voices Inside His Head Refuse to be MutedPHILADELPHIA (The Borowitz Report)—Donald J. Trump backed out of Tuesday’s televised debate at the eleventh hour, claiming that the voices inside his head balked at being muted. “I have millions of fantastic voices inside my head and they’ve been treated very unfairly, quite frankly,” he said. “This should never be allowed to happen in this country.” Trump gave the voices in his head full credit “for the most amazing thing that I do, which is ‘the weave.’” “One voice starts talking, then another, then another,” he explained. “And before you know it, boom! Weave.” Additionally, Trump said he was glad to skip the debate because “tonight is Eric’s fifth grade play.” Asked what his 40-year-old son was doing in fifth grade he said, “Mainly C’s.” Trump Backs Out of Debate After Voices Inside His Head Refuse to be Muted

And his ‘strong leadership’ on Jan6 watching the riot for 187 minutes hoping he could declare Martial Law? Is that what you mean?

Selfish is the word I would use for Trump and Jared holding back supplies from NY and NJ in the beginning of the pandemic. Governor Cuomo remains an imperfect man, but his regular briefings on Covid were a lifeline for many when the pandemic began. Governor Murphy also showed leadership by having similar briefings and stats I could look at by county and sometimes even by town. There should have been leadership from the WH, but instead it was loyalty games and other crap.

no, he isn't. he is a weak leader. i can back that up. I'm quite troubled by the fact that anyone thinks a bully is a strong leader. it is a fundamental problem with 42-46% of American voters. i agree that it is quite troubling, in that if the can convince another 5% that they are right- that an asshole like Trump is a strong leader, and that we actually need a strong leader (i would argue we need a reasonable leader- a thoughtful leader- i have never much understood why we, as Americans, need a strongman), that we should dispense with that silly democracy stuff.

I do not know if I will watch or not partly because Trump folks adjust the goal posts so Trump wins. Trump flip flops and can't even remember at times if he has positions, unless they are old ones. Below is an opinion article I disagree with. The author apparently is not up to sensing that there is a difference between politics for one state, and politics and policies for an entire country. I am not for fracking, and I think Harris made the sensible decision that a ban on fracking is not something that should happen at the federal level. That isn't flip flopping its making a sensible choice based on the difference of dealing with state level politics versus federal level politics. Note this is yet another opinion article. www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/bernie-sanders-told-the-truth-about-kamala-harris-trying-to-fool-voters-believe-him/ar-AA1qj0Ls?ocid=msedgntp&pc=DCTS&cvid=685f641eff6444da883e60f0cc7575fd&ei=16Bernie Sanders told the truth about Kamala Harris trying to fool voters. Believe him. Opinion by Nicole Russell, USA TODAY • 7h In an interview Sunday on "Meet the Press," Sen. Bernie Sanders, a progressive independent from Vermont, said something about the Democratic vice presidential nominee that she isn't willing to admit to voters.
Host Kristen Welker: "She has previously supported Medicare for All, now she does not. She's previously supported a ban on fracking, now she does not. These, Senator, are ideas that you have campaigned on. Do you think that she is abandoning her progressive ideals?" Sanders: "No, I don't think she's abandoning her ideals. I think she is trying to be pragmatic and do what she thinks is right in order to win the election."
Sanders is right, of course. Harris' pattern of flip-flopping on policies − like favoring a ban on fracking for oil and gas before opposing it now, or supporting mandatory gun buybacks in 2019 but opposing them now − isn't about her growth as a leader or the evolution of her thinking. Electing as president a Black Asian American woman who talks about joy and laughs a lot instead of an angry old white man who insults anyone and everybody just feels right to a lot of people.
After covering Trump for years, I can't blame Americans for wanting a more likable and inspiring alternative. Trump is exhausting.I'm unaware of gun buybacks at the federal level for guns in the US. I thought this was something generally states did, because it would be a nightmare IMO to do this through the US government. Pragmatism is a good idea. Its better than leaning over and asking the Mexican President to "play along" with Trump's Mexico will pay for the wall lie. How are lies about policy more acceptable than adjustments of ideas going from state level to federal level?

"Trump is a strong leader and a bully that is what makes him so good for the position" Bully yes, leader no. Anyone who believes his bullying and lying as a positive trait is an idiot.
