a quick aside.
living in a Democratic Republic means tolerating things you don't like. i don't like all of the rhetoric and anger about immigration, and the polices which arise from it. i don't like our entanglements with foreign nations, and the death and destruction which follows in it's wake. but i put up with it, because that is what our system requires, and the alternative it blanket hatred of one another, rather than working together for things we ALL believe in.
for me, there are more important issues than ANY you just outlined at stake in this election. and for that reason, i am holding my nose and voting for Harris. i would suggest you do the same, if you care about our Democratic Republic. but it is not clear to me at this time that you do. with an autocrat who hates your list of grievances as much as you do, you will never have to worry about it, or democracy, again.

yeah, we have lost 45% of the electorate, who can no longer distinguish between someone thoroughly corrupt and unqualified and a person who has dedicated their lives to public service. this is this shitty rabbit hole that we have been going down since 1980. it ends up in a dark place, and a dead end. let's hope at some point that the 45% drops to 40% and that the resulting firestorm will create enough ash to grow a new crop of Republicans. Or we have have 45% of the country tired of the the progressive left bullshit this country sliding into. Tired of trying to excuse debt for peoples poor educational choices
Tired of normalizing transgenderism
Tired of convincing the people of the US that nationalism is bad
Tired blaming an object for deaths when it is a person fault (people are so fucking dumb on this one)
Tired of helping other countries out with nothing in return
Tired of hearing about climate change
Tired of letting people in the country and wasting millions to take care of them
So yea if someone is running for president and is against some or most of those things which would be against a democrate because they love all that shit. We don't care if they have been convicted of a felony the above mention is worse.
Or we have 55% (=majority) of the country who really think most if not all of the items are actually good for the people, the nation, and the world. And they don't need to have 5,328 or some other ridiculous number of guns to convince others they are "right"

i don't think that people get how massive and productive CA is. CA provides more revenue to the treasury than the bottom 23 states COMBINED. CA provides twice as much revenue as either Texas or Florida, and 60% more than the next largest state (NY). I know how massive CA because I've been to places towards the bottom of the state and places near the top. I have not been in LA yet, but I have flown in and out of LAX. So far I've liked most of the places I've been, but some are more affordable and Opti friendly than others. I love San Francisco into wine country such as Sonoma and Napa valleys. Had a great time near the other end of the state seeing Monterey, San Diego, etc. Have seen parts of very expensive Silicon Valley. I understand the coast of SC is beautiful. I think they have wild horses in a state park, and I support wild horses in general

i have been thinking about this for a bit.
you know what i am tired of? exhausted in fact.
NORMALIZING TRUMP.
he is not normal. he is fucked up. truly awful.
fortunately, we don't have to rely on a party or any single person to stop it. we can just vote to get rid of it. and it WILL disappear- to paraphrase a well known celebrity- like magic.

Fifth, behind the U.S., China, Germany, and Japan. And not that far behind Japan. just ahead if India, with a population 5x larger, right? India will pass us. it is the fate of a developed state. They are working hard to get there and there is a cultural of generation wealth and striving that guarantees it will happen. JD Vance's Indian in-laws won't be the first connected to very high federal office nor will the be the last. And allowing former citizens of India to become citizens here will slow that process down. Many that I have known through various jobs prefer things in the US including our cleaner water and air. Some will only go back to visit, and others will return for retirement because it is cheaper. In the meantime, they are adding tax dollars to the federal govt and the state govt in which they live.

getting firm and deep economic relations with India would be an excellent move for the US.

scgal , I was hoping you would get back to the discussion of dead voters. You left it at don't certify if there is even 1 dead voter ballot found. I gave the real world challenges of preventing one from slipping through. I remain curious as to your next step that should be taken following "not certifying." An election has held and the clock is ticking. What do election officials do? To be honest I don't know what each state rules are but they can hold off certifying for a period of say 30-45 day to see if the person died after casting a ballot. Or they don't certify, or lets do away with mail in ballots in person only. That would disqualify alot of people but it would help. Absentee ballots really wasn't a thing until the 1980s the country did fine before then. You can look it up or call your county clerk. Each state is different or can be, you know state's rights and all that.

I decided to just pick three so its easier to parse and I go back to work since I finished my meal. I would tackle educational debt a different way. Conservatives assume its all about excusing debt for poor educational choices, but like most government programs, thats at best the smallest bit of what the programs does cover. To have doctors in areas they normally would not choose, there is a program that will forgive their debt after they pay student debt for so many years and then stay in the assigned area for so many years. So not bad educational choices at all. Addressing yt another thing that the "free" market does not take care of. Most the debt forgiveness is the interest, not the original charges and even with that you have to jump hoops and hope the phase of the moon favors your application going in, say if you couldn't use your degree because the pandemic hit or after 4 years of study you graduate to find your industry was decimated by the credit crisis in the late 2000s. You are going to hear about climate change until it improves. I'm not a fan of leaving things be or making it worse given how different my NJ experiences storm wise have been from the first half of my time here so far until the more current half in which I am going to need to make my own scorecard just I can remember all of them and when they happened. And for the third one most people who come to this country come to work, not to get benefits. That is true for both legal and illegal immigration. Few are aware, and I only because of some research, how quickly one has to be self-supporting. It might be something like six months and the govt does assist in finding them their first job in the country that will pay for housing, food, etc. Most of us are unaware of how this all happens. However FOX and the RW get a lot of viewers stoking your fears on this. Ignoring that all those muliple marriage enclaves only the first wive IS NOT DEPENDENT on government programs. All the other wives and children are. That's how they pull it off, not superior abilities in business. And the majority of people on government programs are white, poor, and largely in southern and red states.

A national holiday would work for the once every four years presidential election and the two year mid-terms (if there were strong safeguards for the class bias inherent in such). What about state and local elections? Primaries? Special elections? Or do we have different rules/expectations for various elections?

If we have a national holiday for elections (which I'm in favor of), I'm going to require that every single polling place has to be accessible to people with difficulties walking. As they aged, my parents had problems voting (but always managed to get to their polling place), because there were stairs, etc. to deal with, and there was no way to get someone inside who was in a wheelchair, and if you were using a walker, it was very difficult. Everyone should have equal access to vote.

Everyone should have equal access to vote. That's never going to happen. Nebraska has for years been deliberately closing polling places and switching bus stops so minorities can't vote in person.

Mail-in vote fraud is almost non-existent as well. Large-scale fraud of the kind that Trump continually rants about is "preposterous." A 2020 article from NPR: It goes on to list some of the safeguards and other aspects that would make such a claim impossible, and this: Kim Wyman was the Washington Secretary of State, who is responsible for elections in the state. She is a Republican who was respected enough to be elected statewide in a blue state, and had formerly served as a county elections director for a decade in addition to being a county auditor. She left her position to work on election security in the Biden administration. Well-respected by BOTH sides.

The type of individual we want to be in government. And the type that Trump, his cronies, and MAGA in general want to drive out of government work because they are competent and principled. Just another rung down our slide to becoming a SHithole country like conservatives want.

Wyman even extended a personal invitation to Trump and Barr, to come to Washington state and inspect the county offices where mail ballots are inspected before they are counted. Over the last two weeks, I spent over 13 hours in one of those offices observing the process. I would love to host him.

Hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, gas stations, fast food places, retail, etc. There are places that only close for Christmas and Easter and there are some like the beginning of the list that never can. Having worked in that environment with people who want to vote but might be working two jobs to make ends meet, I do not agree with an idea that guarantees they will be screened out of voting. I'd prefer to either go to a WA model over that or a hybrid one that has in person voting on at least one day, preferably two and allows for mail in voting with a certain amount of notice. The latter should be able to be opt in going forward and not just for medical staff, patients, and residents. I'm learning about the population taking the county bus and there is a need for mail in voting that is larger than I knew. YMMV We are no longer a society that only works when the sun is up and stops at sundown, a National Day of Voting changes little especially if that day happens to have bad weather.

That most of the people in that category assume they know things that they sometimes are 100% wrong on. I used to not believe that survey that people who watch FOX news and similar did worse on a test about current events than people who listened to nothing at all. I have now met people in RL and with your posting, I realize how true that is ... and horribly it is getting worse. I hope you are not attracted to Italy because of the historic and still ongoing corruption in the Church and the Mafia ...

I'm just showing what makes up the 45%. Obviously the 55% likes that shit. We will keep plugging away at it. Scgal, what you are showing is that you don't understand the issues. I would disagree we or at least the ones I know understand the issues, but we still agree with what I posted

I'm not in favor of it, because it just insures certain crucial groups never get to vote. Think of the places that never close and some cannot. YMMV We are no longer a society that only works when the sun is up, a national day of voting changes little especially if that day happens to have bad weather. what did those people do before absentee voting? They are probably part of the people who never vote or rarely vote. If you work two double shifts, the polls aren't open at a time you can go. If you work two jobs, its similar. There's a short window from finishing your FT job where I worked and then quickly commuting to your PT job. Again, the polls will be closed before you are done with your day. And in my personal situation with the bus, my day is already 10 hours long because of the bus and how my job does lunch. And that's just M-W, its much higher Th, F and my commute Sat sucks big time. Years ago I strung two PT jobs together trying to make FT money. Its exhausting. Having different clothes, trying to juggle meals ... sucks big time.

Perhaps transgender etc. but I wonder if that is a lack of understanding and exposure or from some religious stance. MO. DJ and others will have different opinions than me on this.

yeah, we have lost 45% of the electorate, who can no longer distinguish between someone thoroughly corrupt and unqualified and a person who has dedicated their lives to public service. this is this shitty rabbit hole that we have been going down since 1980. it ends up in a dark place, and a dead end. let's hope at some point that the 45% drops to 40% and that the resulting firestorm will create enough ash to grow a new crop of Republicans.
Tired of letting people in the country and wasting millions to take care of them
So yea if someone is running for president and is against some or most of those things which would be against a democrat because they love all that shit. We don't care if they have been convicted of a felony the above mention is worse.
Well said SC. I'm tired also. And as probably the only other conservative on this board I'm with you. I"ll add a few other things to your list. 1. I'm tired of having to be politically correct.
2. I'm tired of liberals using euphemisms for things. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck. Calling it a merganser doesn't change anything. It's still a duck. Plain and simple. 3. I'm tired of the govt giving away tax dollars to persons who come into the US illegally or use the "asylum" excuse. They know if they say asylum they will be let in and given assistance. And a court date 5-7yrs in the future. How many are really going to show up?

How come we aren't getting these "illegal" immigrants "legal"? Apparently there are plenty of jobs avaiblable in America that Americans don't want to do. Looks like we got a pool of people who could be employed (and contributing via payroll taxes AND consumerism).
Why does it take 5 to 7 YEARS to get through the court system? Why does it take YEARS to become an American citizen? How come Melania Trump got fast tracked to citizenship but the non-American spouses of Americans have a much more difficult and longer path to citizenship? How come Melania had such an easy time getting citizenship for her parents? (I'm assuming neither Melania nor her parents had W2 income at any point.) Why?? Why is it so hard for regular people??
America is a consumer based economy. Isn't America a mostly Capitalist country?? Why hasn't anyone figured out how to PROFIT from getting the immigrants citizenship and work and CONSUMING.
Wouldn't that be a win win for Americans in general?
