Taro Lyrics: Indochina, Capa jumps Jeep Two feet creep up the road To photo, to record, meat lumps and war They advance as does his chance, ohh Very yellow-white flash A violent wrench grips mass Rips light, tears limbs like rags Burst so high, finally Capa lands Mine is a watery pit Painless with immense distance From medic, from colleague, friend, enemy, foe Him five yards from his leg From you Taro, oh Do not spray into eyes I have sprayed you into my eyes 3:10 p.m. Capa pends death, quivers, last rattles, last chokes All colours and cares glaze to grey Shriveled and stricken to dots The left hand grasps what the body grasps not, ohh Le photographe est mort 3.1415, alive no longer my amour Faded for home May of '54 Doors open like arms, my love Painless with a great closeness To Capa, to Capa Capa dark after nothing Re-united with his leg And with you, Taro, oh Taro, ohh Do not spray into eyes I have sprayed you into my eyes Hey, Taro!

Related topic to above, I had checked out Waltz with Bashir, but wasn't up to watching it all. Recently thought about doing so again, and then crazy Dem and election drama.
On the subject of Opening ceremonies in Paris, isn't it amazing (and sad) to watch in real time RW outlets spreading misinformation on what happened just to get readers and outrage. It looked pretty obvious to me that was no Last Supper montage and yes many of us have read about those bacchanal feasts but never seen it portrayed often let alone close to historical IMO.

Getting back to the opening of the Summer Olympics in Paris. Many users on Facebook state they didn't like the opening because one scene in the show made fun of Jesus, his disciples, and the last supper. A couple of jpegs of what they didn't like about it. Someone on Facebook posted the following to explain what we saw and that it had nothing to do with Jesus and the last supper. Yeah I was on another site where someone made the comment that we all need to boycott the Olympics because they were making fun of Christianity. So I had to poke around and find out what the new outrage was. For people who claim liberals are delicate snowflakes the far right sure finds plenty of ways to be outraged victims when there was actually no offense intended.

It's not even that no offense was intended. It had nothing to do with Christianity at all. The far-right actively manufactures an offense out of nothingness. They are either intentionally or stupidly creating a "controversy" in an attempt to rile up people who don't know any better and won't bother to learn any better. This country would be SO much better off if that kind of thing never worked.

There was art regarding the Bacchanalia/Dionysia being produced before DaVinci painted the Last Supper. While the picture below does not look anything like DaVinci's lLst Supper, it was drawn around 1480 by Andrea Mantegna. DaVinci painted the Last Supper between 1495-1498.

DaVinci made his living by doing paintings Patrons requested. Here's a blurb on that- Last Supper, one of the most famous artworks in the world, painted by Leonardo da Vinci probably between 1495 and 1498 for the Dominican monastery Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. It depicts the dramatic scene described in several closely connected moments in the Gospels, including Matthew 26:21–28, in which Jesus declares that one of the Apostles will betray him and later institutes the Eucharist. According to Leonardo’s belief that posture, gesture, and expression should manifest the “notions of the mind,” each one of the 12 disciples reacts in a manner that Leonardo considered fit for that man’s personality. The result is a complex study of varied human emotion, rendered in a deceptively simple composition. www.britannica.com/topic/Last-Supper-fresco-by-Leonardo-da-Vinci

I do like the fashion house Dior fwiw. In the days after her acclaimed performance, Dion continued to post about the star-studded night, including reposts of memes and reactions to her appearance on her Instagram stories.
"Wow, what a night. Thanks to everyone at @paris2024, @olympics and @dior who helped make this dream come true. And now, it’s already time to go! I will miss you Paris! - Celine xx," she wrote Sunday, sharing an image of herself dressed casually as she gazes from a window.
French fashion house Dior, which designed several of the looks worn by the ceremony headliners, also took fans behind the scenes for the making of Dion's haute couture gown by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri.Just deleted the URL.

And regarding the one artist for the Greek feast, I found a detailed YouTube video of which I only got ten minutes in. I love that period for painters, but I don't know that much about him.

At the turn of the 20th century, my great-great-uncle was an art student in Paris. As an art student, he and other art students were allowed into Paris museums to draw or paint studies of famous works. My GGU painted a study of DaVinci's La Belle Ferronnière located in the Louvre Museum. I have been to the Louvre a number of times and found it on several occassions hanging beside the Mona Lisa. I may be biased, buy my GGU did a damn nice job with his study. I am currently in possession of my GGU's study of La Belle Ferronnière. It passed from my GGU to my great-grandmother, to my grandmother to my father and now to me. I will be passing it along to one of my nieces or nephews to keep it in the family. Here is a photo of DaVinci's La Belle Ferronnière. There is also a Wiki link about La Belle Ferronnière which will be below the picture. La Belle Ferronnière

Interesting thread on Facebook this morning regarding the picture and article about the man below. Without even reading the linked article, some of the Facebook repliers stated it should be illegal and the usual they won't ever watch the olympics again. Had they read the linked article (which was titled 'Team GB star becomes first ever Olympian to win medal in both male and female events') before posting their outrage, they would have found out the guy was the coxswain for the male and female GB rowing teams. Reading further into the article, they would also have learned that in 2017, the World Rowing Federation changed the rule which would now allow the coxswain to be male or female regardless of the gender of the athletes rowing the boat. The role of the coxswain on the boat is to steer the boat but not row the boat. Some folks just read the headlines and the pearl clutching begins. Really? he didn't make the news over here, I have never seen him before. There are a couple of female boxers who are causing an issue and they are both likely to medal. The Algerian wasn't allowed to compete in Worlds (under a different federation}because they are XY But the Olympic federation has allowed the person to compete because it says female on the passport. Women have missed out on the chance to compete in a fair competition. As for the opening ceremony....... loved it

"In the face of backlash over Khelif's 2024 win, the IBA stood by its decision to disqualify the boxers over two "trustworthy" and "independent" tests, though they did not disclose what the tests were. The Washington Post reported IBA president claimed they were disqualified over finding XY chromosomes. The IOC said the gender and age for the athletes is based on their passports." eu.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2024/08/02/imane-khelif-fact-check-olympic-boxer/74645341007/I will always support fairness for women in sport ...... and absolutely don't think this is a level playing field.

Another story where the know-nothings and the refuse-to-learns listen to right-wing talking points and don't look into the facts. The IBA, a boxing governing body that has been banned from involvement in the Olympics over many years of judging scandals, corruption, and other improprieties, declared the two boxers ineligible. This came after the new (at the time) director, a Russian man with ties to the Russian mob and to drug trafficking, protested the defeat of a previously unbeaten Russian fighter. The tests have not been adequately explained, with the IBA not disclosing the results or even what was tested. The entire thing smacks of a politically-motivated attempt to elevate a defeated Russian boxer. The Algerian boxer in question was born female and has lived female her entire life. She boxed in international competitions for years before this happened. She was not even that good originally. One story I read stated that she lost five of her first six bouts and has been beaten by women nine times. She apparently has a condition that creates a higher testosterone level (according to another story), but she is not male and is qualified under the rules to fight.

"At a press conference on Monday (5 August), the IBA, which no longer oversees Olympic boxing amid concerns about its integrity and links to Russia, finally clarified that Khelif and Lin’s test results revealed chromosomes that made them ineligible to compete in the women’s category." Press conference today,........ high levels of testosterone and chromosome which make them ineligible. All the IOC have done is looked at the passport.

linkfrom the link - IRT "level playing field" - Imane Khelif competed in Tokyo, and there was no outcry. she didn't medal, so apparently there's no real advantage to her rare genetic condition. Should Michael Phelps also have been banned from competing? he's got a number of bodily advantages over his opponents.

What about women who have trained hard and made it their lifes dream to compete in the Olympics?
Then those dreams are dashed because they are made to compete with someone who is technically a man.
It makes a mockery of Women in sport.

Don't you think the IOC should have been a bit more thorough than just looking at the passport?

It makes a mockery of Women in sport. What has convinced you that someone who was born and has lived her entire life as female is "technically" a man? The word of a Russian mobster leading a thoroughly discredited and banned organization? I don't know, but I think a tad more should be required. link

It makes a mockery of Women in sport. yes, Imane Khelif has trained her entire life for this. thank you for acknowledging that. I'm sure that the 9 women that have beaten her in international competition have also trained hard and made it their life's dream to compete in the Olympics. were you outraged when she competed in Tokyo? again, she didn't medal here. let's take a step back and use some common sense here. Algeria recognizes her as the woman she is. Algeria, the Muslim country where it is literally illegal to be any of the letters in LGBTQ. Algeria is going to allow someone other than a woman to represent them in the Olympics? come on, now. also, for some actual facts - Swyer syndromeI'm not sure what the correct word is to describe my reaction to the folks arguing that there are only two genders and you were born with it, now trying to argue that this woman who was born with the female genitalia that would have had her assigned correctly, is actually a man. you can't fucking have it both ways.

If your chromosomes say you are not female ............you are not female ............... and it doesn't matter a jot how you were raised.
and you should not be eligible for a female only sport.
and the IOC have made absolutely no checks.... nothing at all.
Just because Algeria doesn't recognise anything but male or female ......... doesn't make it true.
Actually I don't care what syndrome, intersex or technicality this person has.
If she is genetically not female and has heightened testosterone .......... then she should not be competing because it would be an unfair advantage over women who are competing in a women only sport.
and I'm not happy seeing women getting smacked in the face by a man.
