I hope they take the time to try to find and prosecute these people attempting to create fake documents that promote their particular political view and stick them on the internet. Hard enough for cops to investigate this without having to intensely fact check everything because of these assholes. Crap. Easily could be true as well. The RW misinformation machine is vast and relentless. Its why I was so fascinated in the Trayvon Martin case and another thing that happened. I watched the ebb and flow of fake news from the RW side and it migrate onto what in the past was trusted news sources. Forging documents is a crime, often several to many. Trump OK's the forging of many financial docs hence his 34 felony counts. Life on brand in the Trumpeverse. Lying, forging ...

I'll try to not comment on motive again until the hearings start. I have real world stuff that must be done, and the shooter's motive is not important to me.

The Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee issued a subpoena Wednesday to the Secret Service director compelling her to appear before the committee on Monday for what is scheduled to be the first congressional hearing into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. link Reads to me that the hearing will be focused on event security failures and not on the shooter. The FBI is leading the investigation of the shooter.

Not sure this was partisan at all. Latest I saw was that the shooter's phone history showed he was also googling when/where the DNC was being held. Earlier quibbles about his political leaning: donated to a progressive group, registered Republican.
A video by a classmate claims he hated ALL politicians. Trump may have just been conveniently in the shooter's backyard.

How everything did happen is a good thing to examine so better plans can be put in place for the campaign season and beyond.

I will unapologetically say my very first thought when I saw the news bulletin about this was too bad he missed. It would have been well deserved KARMA.
I do feel bad for the man who died protecting his family. I am almost 100 percent sure that the only thing that the Ass Cancer in a Skin Suit cared about is that the man that died won't be able to vote for him.

That's why I kind of agreed with both members of Jack Black's band that was on tour. 1) as above 2) we can't say that or wish violence on anyone (as a band performing in another country) The rest of the tour was canceled by Jack Black per the few articles I read. I think it would have been canceled by the country though if he hadn't done the right thing, i.e. cancel and leave the country.

Found this searching for something else. I have only watched about six minutes in, but perhaps Swamp or maybe other lawyers lurking can tell the board if what he is saying makes sense.

I found this comment interesting. It was in the comments section for the above video.
Am i the only one who finds it ironic that in the middle of trump babbling about immigrants and brown people, a rural white boy was staring at him through an AR scope?

Quotes specific laws while showing the text on screen. Cites specific court cases. Not a lawyer, but appears solid to me.

I am pretty sure, but did not look, that yes indeed there are separate statutes for protecting the current President and something similar for former Presidents etc.

I haven’t watched that video - but my husband and I love that guy. He’s solid and very good at explaining legal issues.

I had a thought about the shooter and the real hardships poor people face in this country. He could be mad at all politicians for not making things better quicker. Who cares about immigrants if you are a poor rural/urban/suburban kid who can get to community college for a couple years but might choose not to accept a scholarship to a college because all the other costs to attend seem insurmountable? The weather has been unrelenting and crushing here. I don't know if I am closer in that theory to what was in his mind or not. Like I said since he is no longer alive, the reason does not matter (to me) anymore. What matters is guns and gun control in this country. And yes, security should be looked at even if Trump cheaps out on venues because he doesn't feel they are worthy enough to be paid. Sometimes how you make the sausage or don't is pretty important.

apnews.com/article/trump-assassination-attempt-timeline-59e2f4fcdf8379aa2cb5f141825d60a3Trump continued his speech and turned to his right to point toward a screen displaying border-crossing numbers when three shots were heard. As the first pop rings out, Trump says “Oh” and raises his hand to his right ear and looks at it, before quickly crouching to the ground behind his lectern. Secret Service agents rush to the stage and pile atop the former president to shield him. Rallygoers scream, crouch down and run away as heavily armed law enforcement officers surround the stage. — Seconds after the first three shots, five more shots ring out in rapid succession. Two spectators were critically wounded. One of the injured spectators was seated in the bleachers to the left of Trump as he faced forward. The bullet appeared to go past Trump, hitting the person.

Sounds like the secret service fucked up. www.reuters.com/world/us/us-secret-service-chief-set-grilling-by-congress-over-trump-shooting-2024-07-22/WASHINGTON, July 22 (Reuters) - U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle rebuffed bipartisan calls to resign for security failures that allowed a would-be assassin to wound Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, and rankled lawmakers by refusing to provide details about the incident. ~~ In the face of Republican claims that the Secret Service denied resources to protect Trump, Cheatle said security for the former president had grown ahead of the shooting. "The level of security provided for the former president increased well before the campaign and has been steadily increasing as threats evolve," Cheatle said. She added that the Secret Service provided the security sought by the Trump campaign for the rally. But Cheatle repeatedly declined to answer questions from openly frustrated Republicans and Democrats about the security perimeter, what officials knew of potential threats and the decisions they made, and the suspicious behavior of the suspect. "Tell us what went wrong," Republican Representative Pete Sessions implored her. "Tell us, and don't try and play a shell game with us."

"Tell us what went wrong," Republican Representative Pete Sessions implored her. "Tell us, and don't try and play a shell game with us." From what I know now, she shouldn't resign. The problem is this, if she tells all she knows, it puts Trump the candidate more at risk and his SS detail with him. I don't think its a coincidence that the RW cartoonists were aiming for this woman within 24 hours of the shooting incident. Lets talk about a couple elephants in the room. Trump proudly stiff venues and rally performers. And towns the rallies are held at and the police officers compelled to do security for them. Therefore, Trump has chosen less secure venues on purpose. Venues that are harder to defend from a Secret Service perspective. So Trump and his campaign are at fault for a big portion of this. However, they are very aware that since this is a federal hearing, they will not be called out on the carpet for it. And if they manage to make yet another high-ranking woman lose her job over defending him or the US, that's just pure bonus boys and girls. Because this was an outdoor venue that Trump chose, the security perimeter wasn't even under SS control b4 the rally opened. That was a jurisdictional issue. Trump campaign picks bad venues on purpose which includes ones where they are only "paying" for part of the area. If she tells that truth, she will be fired with prejdice for risking a Presidential candidates security. If she doesn't fall on her sword she'll probably lose her job due to Trump allies, but its not 100% like the other option.

Looking more and more like another young white man with mental illness and destructive fantasies that needed mental health counseling and shouldn’t have had access to weapons. Wonder when the Republicans will start talking about that? Its all they talk about though isnt it? The problem is guns, Not mental illness. And mentally ill people commit crimes overall at the same rate as people not diagnosed mentally ill. Giving someone happy pills does not solve the problem generally. It just masks it. I will stick with my current theory for now that this guy lost all hope while living life poor and smart. He did not know how to go from completed two years in a community college to a scholarship at a college, because the scholarship probably wasn't the 100% full ride he needed, or ... Giving this kid a happy pill might have stopped him from shooting now, but what happens when it stops being so happy and makes him homicidal or suicidal? What then? (Please read some inserts on these drugs, almost all of them have side effects that make the problem they are treating even worse. Doesn't happen to everyone thankfully, but it does happen. Hence the warning.)

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resignsUS Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has tendered her resignation amid scrutiny of security lapses related to the recent assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump, sources tell CNN. There is a basic human being side to situations like this that always affects me. We have a person who has spent 27 years building a career. Along side that career, she has a life like we all have/have had with expenses based on her salary. Now, all of sudden in her mid-fifties, because other people fucked up, it is all gone. Picking up the pieces and moving forward has to be a daunting task. I feel for her.
