Posted this elsewhere and then saw this thread had been started so am moving it (as written originally) Biden’s unpopularity could give Trump his shot at reclaiming powerI am starting to think, fair or unfair, that Joe is going to have to take one for the team and not run again. There is the whole lame duck issue that made sense that he didn't want to get out too soon but time is running out for others to get in. I have to believe that there are conversations being had. I hope the Democrats can align behind someone else with as little blood as possible. It will be tricky with Harris. Not seeing her as the general election winning choice but will be tough to deny her the nomination. Who else? As always, the overriding factor is that Trump must not be back in the White House. What is the best course of action to prevent that? for certain. Just know it has to be found and taken.

My step-family is very Republican. My twenty year old granddaughter is as much a black sheep as there is but only dangles her toes on the dark side. She indicated she didn't like Trump but that she did like lower gas prices. I see that as typical simplistic self interest thinking. The pros presented in the OP might be good, "but what do they really do for me in my daily life?" (I didn't attempt to explain the complexity of gas prices. Experience has shown me eyes just glaze over when I do too much talking with any of that group.)

I would prefer a younger candidate than Biden. However, if that is what people are holding against him, Trump is only 2 years younger.

That logically makes sense but I "see" more of an age difference than that when I look at them. I think Trump's ego causes him to take actions to appear younger that Biden's doesn't. Perception is Reality.

You guys certainly like your elder statesmen. Actually, the elder statesmen are kind of like Velcro. It's hard to convince them when it's time to retire & let the next generation take the helm. But don't underestimate Biden, as in spite of his age, he's crazy like a fox.

You guys certainly like your elder statesmen. not really. of the five presidents that won in the last (32) years, the first three were in their 40's. if you mean congress, yes- but only because of people that park there. the most praised Republican of recent times left office at age 81. i don't think it means a hill of beans that Biden is as old as he is, if he runs against Trump. i think Trump is LIKELY to be running from prison.

First there has to be the trial and conviction. I see it as unlikely that a judge would go straight to sentencing or lock Trump up awaiting sentencing. Then time to file briefs and schedule a sentencing hearing. Unless the judge tells Trump ahead of time to get his affairs in order and bring his toothbrush to the hearing, I see it unlikely that the judge would order Trump immediately into custody. Then there is the possibility that a judge rules Trump can be out pending appeal. With all that, while possible, I don't see it as likely he will be in prison by Election Day 2024.

If trump is the nominee, I would use that as a counter any time Biden’s age is mentioned.

Plus he is a massive cheater none of which makes his penis bigger. And as a 6’4” and 212 lb. man I just about spit up over his Fulton County numbers. Flat footed he may go 6’1”. He is easily north of 275.

Biden on the other hand besides being a democrat with policies that suck his health is terrible too. The guy is a complete babbling idiot, dems cannot hide behind his speech impediment any more. He walks around in circles not knowing where he is at, babbles on not know what he is saying, hell the poor old fool fell off a bike. He is in bad shape and should not be making any decisions regarding the country. If anyone thinks this inept old man is competent should get their head examined.

Easy and doesn’t require big words that typical voters can’t understand

I wish neither one of them was running. I cannot believe neither party can come up with better candidates. Not sure exactly how to define "better candidates". I would argue that the GOP has a number of better choices running. It is up to the voters to stop saying they will vote for Trump and back someone else. I found a poll Here that asked, "if not Biden, who?" and Harris lead with an uninspiring 22%. Non-spring chickens Hillary and Bennie were at 15 and 12. Newsom was the only other in double figures. Granted things could change if the poll was for reals but still doesn't suggest that Democrats are strongly ready to get behind someone else. I am reminded of Pogo:

Who do you mean specifically when you say "Dems and Republicans"? There is no mechanism for elected officials to do that which you dream. The Republican and Democratic National Committees do have some say in the nomination process but I think they would be hard-pressed to deny either candidate access to state primary ballots. They could manipulate delegate seating rules to make it more difficult for either to get the necessary votes to secure the nomination. But most of GOP people have their committee seats out of loyalty to Trump. And a power play within the Democratic Party by elites has never turned out well.

Your lack of knowledge about medicine is stunning. People fall all the time. They fall off curbs, on the stairs, while walking, in the shower, and all kinds of places. The number of falls and the circumstances surrounding them is what matters. How many times has Biden fallen? More than once? We encourage people to stay active to maintain their health and fitness, regardless of age and medical diagnoses. Those that do have a lower chance of falling. If you understood anything about medicine you would know that. Why should I expect more. You continue to defend Trump despite his flaunting of the constitution and his inciting an insurrection. You refuse to acknowledge the risks he poses to our government and his lawbreaking. The fact that you and your fellow conservatives can say with a straight face that Biden is more of a risk than re-electing is ludicrous, but that just goes hand and hand with the other absurd things you posyTrump ETA: so you are now going to vote for trump. We measure physical activity in something called METS. Riding a bike, walking, and riding in a golf cart all get a number. So yes, being able to ride a bike means you are in better physical condition than someone who cannot, and the numbers back that up. Try again

I know there is no practical way it would happen, but I'll bet if there was a country-wide vote that a lot of people feel the same way I do. And it's not so much that I have a particular dislike of Biden personally. But, I know the republican voters HATE him, and the thought of him being president again turns their stomachs as much as the thought of Trump being president sickens the dems (although to be honest, I'd actually rather see Trump back in there than Desantis).

Trump was unable to walk up a hill at the G8 in Sicily. He does not exercise. A 76 yo man who does not exercise is not in good physical condition. The rumors I have heard about what Trump’ calcium score in his coronary arteries would be very concerning for anyone, and puts you at a high risk of a heart attack or a stroke. Trump has a famously unhealthy diet and is known not to do any exercise other than golf. So yes, I can unequivocally say that Trump has a higher risk of dying in the next 4 years compared to Trump. There is a whole industry based on determining that risk. It is called insurance. So yes, it is easy to say
