I agree that the Democratic Party needs to market itself better. Taking the high road just doesn't work against the current Republican Party. They need to shout their accomplishments from the hilltops. they also need to point out how unfit IN EVERY WAY that Trump is. it is not just that he is a criminal. we all know that. it is that he has a distaste for democracy that he has fostered his entire life. candidly, i can see how people would find that refreshing- that he admits it outloud. but admitting it outloud does not make it better. it makes it far worse. Lippman also had a distaste for democracy. but his idea was to use that notion to protect the REPUBLIC. Trump's vision of the Republic is far different than (most of) the rest of the US. it is a vision that is not a consent decree, but one of force. Do you think this pointing out is not happening continuously?

The right is declaring Harris “the most radical leftist senator ever”.
Anyone know what they are basing this on? Was she really more leftist than Bernie? How about Elizabeth Warren?
I’ve been looking for ratings and records and I am having trouble finding anything.
It is all very funny because so many on the far left are quite critical of her.

The benefit of appealing to lazy and stupid supporters.

In CNN's time-line of the upcoming events for the presidential election, they include the season premiere of Saturday Night Live.

having said that, if the giddy elation is the people who are sweeping into Harris' corner daily, of COURSE that can't continue. there are only so many unmotivated voters out there. but that won't stop the enthusiasm, if she continues to deliver. Not sure about giddy elation, but it definitely has younger people interested and TALKING about the election and Harris. We were at a birthday party for my dad today, he's 94! At one point I caught my 25 yo DS4 talking with his 20 yo cousin about college, which got into political protests on campus, and the election and candidates. DS4 told him he usually claims he's nonpolitical, doesn't want to get into politics - but they were discussing it in some depth. My dad wandered by, cousin cheekily asked "Grandpa, who do you plan to vote for?", and my dad piped up with " I want to vote for the woman! We've tried Trump, he's no good, we've tried Biden. It's time to try a woman. She's better looking than Trump." (now, you have to realize dad is getting a bit confused lately - he might ask you the same question 3 times, or mistake me for my sister, or ask my kids' names - but he wasn't confused in the least here, he knew exactly what we were talking about, and was on top of current events) Later, DS2 and I were also discussing JD Vance and various things he said in the past that are being dredged up, and whether Biden was a master of political timing - claiming he was not dropping out, until after the RNC and Trump was confirmed as presidential candidate with Vance as VP, then endorsing Harris in his place, leaving the Rep party scrambling to rework their messages. They are talking about politics, amongst themselves and with parents and grandparents, spontaneously - that wasn't happening a month ago. They are engaged, now.

Since no one has seen Biden since he dropped out, how do we know that the phone call he made to Harris wasn't a AI generated call? Could this be a "Weekend at Bernies" moment? Oh, and I heard this today. Biden as the VP. Define no one. He was seen and went into seclusion because you silly Trump sheeple and the media helped force him out. I still think Biden as VP might be the only way to rescue this ship. So Rip, what rumors do we need to make to have Trump drop out before the GE and JD Vance can run as President? I mean there are so many actual true things Trump has done ... acting like an addled locked ward patient, but you all see it as strength. Every time. Situation - Trump uses a fork instead of a spoon to eat soup. Spin- Trumper spin - see how strong he is and how vital? H's a man that only needs to eat the heart of the soup to survive! If it were BIden instead, Situation - Biden uses a fork instead of a spoon to eat soup. Spin- FAUX*news/FOX entertainment trope of the day - OMG, BIden does not know what a spoon is. He's demented and unfit to lead. Cue talking heads sitting on a couch making shit up and conjectures on use of fork with soup. (Again if this were something Trump did, the talking heads would say shit like, he's such a leader, he didn't even wait for them to bring him a spoon. He just used his fork. What a vital manly thing to do. Should anyone point out the spoon was actually there on the table as part of the place setting, they cut to commercial or resync their spin)

They are talking about politics, amongst themselves and with parents and grandparents, spontaneously - that wasn't happening a month ago. They are engaged, now. And they were engaged when Obama ran his campaign for Change And some were engaged when Trump ran his first MAGA campaign and said some outrageous things. We even had a member who I thought leaned more liberal, opine 'What do we have to lose?' Lots was my thought, but he wasn't the only voter buying the get rid of the establishment; vote for shiny popular businessman Trump? What do you have to lose? I think that was even one of his campaign slogans. I'm underwhelmed as this happens every 4 years, with some of the youth vote. You can start the clock timer and I guess it makes sense that July would be one of the times it would go off. See campaigns now realize that polling isn't all that accurate for tracking how well a candidate is doing. So both major parties have decided that what counts now is individual donors sending in their $5 or more to the campaign. This makes them feel they have grass roots support even though donor info can be faked or obscured by enterprising souls. Campaigns and retailers operate on cash flowing their operations. That's why certain times of the year there are massive sales to even that out. One of those times of year every year is July. (February is also big after VDay spending is done) Who has disposable cash in July generally? Young people who aren't paying full freight for a roof over their head, etc. Addled senlors might think they have disposable cash or forget how much cash they have so they can be the big donors during the July beg for campaign donations time. And since its My First General Election TM for the young voters they are the most motivated ... until they do not get what they want. And then they stamp their collective feet, do not vote in the GE, but i suppose at least whatever major campaign has sucked off their donations to fill the campaign coffers for July and possibly a little longer. This time is different, as in the time, the method, and who is buying this is new and exciting. And if I were a certain kind of decades younger, I probably would have bought it as well. Watch for the crash coming to you sometime around mid-September to October. Temps will be cooler, summer vacations will be over, days will be shorter, and kids will be back in school.

The Borowitz Report
JD Vance Struggles to Explain Why Sad Childless Woman is Always LaughingDETROIT (The Borowitz Report)—JD Vance is “completely baffled” as to why a sad, childless woman is so often seen laughing, the Republican VP nominee said on Monday. “This woman has no children, and science tells us that, if that is the case, she has no reason to laugh,” Vance told supporters at a campaign rally in Michigan. “It's almost as if no one told her that stepchildren aren't real children,” he said. The Ohio senator said that he and his running mate plan to make the woman’s laughter “the number one issue of this election,” adding, “As long as one woman in America can still laugh, Donald Trump's work is not finished.” JD Vance Struggles to Explain Why Sad Childless Woman is Always Laughing

I wouldn't count him out. There are enough sexist people out there both men and women that might vote for him solely because he is a man and not because they like him or his policies. But it is funny to watch his flail. His entire campaign was based on Biden being a doddering old fool compared to him. Now he has to switch gears. He can't parade a line of women her husband slept with in front of her like he did Clinton to throw Kamala off balance. The crazy cat lady thing/childless woman troupe seems to currently not be doing Vance any favors. He'll bounce back eventually though, he and his minions will find something to latch onto. I am waiting for comments about menstration and putting a woman in charge of nuclear weapons any day now.

I can't think of any woman who was Trump type unhinged brought on menstruation. They may exist, but thankfully I haven't met any. And at 59 years old Harris has probably gone through the Change anyway so no political points to be had there IMO.

These are the same people that said Michelle looked like an ape in a dress when she wore the sleeveless dress. Slammed her ethnicity and her appearance in one shot. And let's not forget Hillary's pant suits as First Lady.

Just running off the mention of her age, not the rest - DS4 and nephew were discussing Harris's age. "Did you know she's 59?" "Yeah! I thought she was much younger, looking at her!" "I know, right?" So they are both aware of EXACTLY how old she is, and think she seems much younger than that number. These guys are 25 & 20 years old. They are looking up the candidates stats, and making comparisons.

It’s easy. He would screw Palin, but has not desire to screw Harris. It’s the only thing a women is valuable for in Trump’s view. If you don’t measure up you are someone who can be ridiculed

It was announced today that Megan Thee Stallion will be performing at VP Harris' rally in Atlanta on Tuesday, July 30.
Megan Thee Stallion may not be my cup of tea, but she will definitely attract younger voters.
By the way, Megan Thee Stallion is 29 years old.
Compare that to Kid Rock at age 53 and Ted Nugent at age 75.

The Borowitz Report
Trump Replaces Vance with Sarah PalinJUL 30, 2024 PALM BEACH (The Borowitz Report)—The JD Vance era ended on Tuesday as Donald J. Trump replaced his embattled running mate with the former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. Unveiling his new VP pick at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said, “I wish JD well, but we needed an upgrade.” Palin was more outspoken about her predecessor, saying, “When you’re running for vice president, you can’t keep saying the first dumb thing that pops into your head.” When asked about the search process that led to Palin, Trump said, “Dan Quayle said no.” Trump Replaces Vance with Sarah Palin

Very interesting ABC article and interview with Fred Trump III. Interview video, which aired today on Good Morning America, is in the article. Fred Trump III calls uncle Donald Trump 'atomic crazy,' says he used racial slur decades agoA Trump campaign spokesperson called the claims "completely fabricated." Fred Trump III, the nephew of former President Donald Trump, said his uncle is "atomic crazy," that he witnessed him using racial slurs decades ago -- and that he plans to vote for Kamala Harris. The Trump way was to be "complex and sometimes cruel," Fred Trump said in an interview with ABC News' Aaron Katersky. "And within every family -- people know this -- families are complicated. Every family has their crazy uncle. My Uncle Donald is atomic crazy. And … he has put his mark on the family history," he said, as he promoted his new book, "All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way." Pressed to explain further, Fred Trump said it "means he does things that, even as much as I know him when he's out there now, I sort of shudder and say, 'Is this the same guy I knew? What's making him change? … What got him this way?' But that all being said, I've always had a good relationship." He added, "But he's done really horrific things to me, which some people will say, 'How could you still want to have a relationship with him?' He's my uncle. He's family, and that means a lot."
