Aw, thanks! I worked my round kicks this morning, just in case. Excellent. The 5’11” Dubette #1 has shown me a kick that would smack me in the head at 6’4”. You women are dangerous!😎 As is the case with Dubette #1, the routine is part of my routine. I did not start out using it for self defense. But it can certainly be handy that way.

I just popped onto Twitter, and the Villages is trending. There's a huge golf cart parade there - for Kamala! In Trump country!
Its the women...
I'm seeing Women's Rights signs, Project 2025 signs, Kat Ladies for Kamala.
Some house is flying a big flag: Never Trump, lock him up.

The only footage of golf cart parades I’ve seen from there have been Trump parades. Bet they’re having a surge in cardiac failures as the old dudes seize up when they see Gladys and Marge with Kamala flags…. Sounds like a Monty Python skit - battle between the men and women at the old folk’s home, using golf carts and walkers.

From the Lincoln Project. So Trump and his gang never had a plan B about what to do if Biden dropped out or died and they had to run against Harris? Why am I unsurprised.

Speaking of Monty Python, yesterday Kaylee McEnany (or however she spells her name) was trying to connect Kamala and Camelot in some backhanded insult - which failed. But all the chatter eventually led to videos of Spamalot.

MN is already pretty blue so I would pick one of the other two personally, but I do like Walz.

While Gwen is too young to vote she is extremely excited about Kamala and has given me very educated thoughts on Kamalas campaign points. I'm hoping that translates to women in the younger voting age block. She's been showing me campaign videos on Tik Tok. Harris and her team certainly know where to go and how to target younger voters. Add to that Taylor Swift endorses her and Vance pissed off swifties with his cat lady comment...maybe we have a chance. I've been listening girls her age are paying attention and aren't happy with us older women not taking charge and control of our lives. She is horrified we do not riot and just let Republicans strip us of our rights. She makes me hope for the future and the next wave of feminism. i felt Biden had a chance. if KH keeps it up, she is polling 1-2% better so far. that would mean that she has MORE than a chance. PS- do you mind posting the Swift endorsement on this thread? it is kindof a big deal, actually. she has something like 45M fans.

i think that Carville is not interpreting the current emotion of Democrats correctly.
what i am detecting is something more akin to relief. they were deeply concerned that the Biden gaffe parade was going to go on right until the election, and that he MIGHT win, but he was far from certain to do so.
all of the aspects of Biden that concerned them are gone. others will take their place. but clearly, this is a reset, and that means that instead of fear and regular dejection, Democrats now see a PATH to victory. but nobody is celebrating yet, other than Harris. and let's be clear- it is not presidential to say "i think i might be able to win", or "there is a chance i might win". she is saying precisely the right thing. and there is no danger of that becoming a mantra, because the polling tells Democrats exactly where things stand. which is that if the election were held today, she would probably lose.
it is a heavy lift to get her over the line. but the odds are better today than they were a week ago, imo.

having said that, if the giddy elation is the people who are sweeping into Harris' corner daily, of COURSE that can't continue. there are only so many unmotivated voters out there. but that won't stop the enthusiasm, if she continues to deliver.

The Ragin' Cajun has a presentation style that is a bit more over the top than coldly analytical. Many are the times he leaves me just shaking my head.

I watched a little bit of Trump's rally last night. I wouldn't exactly say it is a political rally as much as a comedy routine. Every once in a while, he would read a bit from the teleprompter, then go off on his own. I watched the bit he did about Biden challenging him to a golf game, how many strokes he would spot him, and the million dollars he'd donate if Biden won. Another bit about getting shot (which he claimed at the convention he was only going to talk about once). Meanwhile, his campaign is trying to take care of his comment about elect me and you'll never have to vote again. Can you imagine being one of his campaign advisors? Watching his rally and hoping he doesn't say anything stupid?

Trump has decided golf means manhood to him, which is why all the ridiculous golf stories he makes up. I wonder if anyone cares about that except him?

Most of it though may mean nothing. Remember how SCP and others told us about this huge untapped wave of voters that would give Trump a resounding win? It did not happen, in fact he did not even get the popular vote. That's how imaginary those votes were. People who don't vote generally don't vote for reasons. And it is rare that they get excited enough about any candidate to actually show up and cast their ballot. Now like the Trumpers, some are merely decorative who just want to hang out where the party is. Or show up and do a little side hustle or grift of their own. Its great she is getting donations, but I am not convinced this translates into new voters that will actually show up and vote for her by mail or in person.

Because of that, Shumer et al. took us from an almost guaranteed win with proper messaging and candidate mgmt to a wild west hail Mary place where we could lose it all. The GOP candidate has more in common with residents on a dementia floor than any well-regarded former President. What we need is better marketing and people with better nerves and better focus. The polls that really count won't come out until the end of September and later. Right now, we are in US vacation season to be followed by back to school. Only when the kids are back in school, and life is in the usual 9 months of a year part can we truly assess where we are and more importantly what needs to be done to insure the win.

I agree that the Democratic Party needs to market itself better. Taking the high road just doesn't work against the current Republican Party. They need to shout their accomplishments from the hilltops.

A willingness to believe our own eyes. Remember it was Biden's performance at the nationally televised debate that turned the tide against him continuing his campaign. He was behind in the polls prior to that and was slipping further. There was no "almost guaranteed win" marketing that could have reversed it. A wait until the end September strategy would have left no options to do anything significant. The move was a risk, but one that had to be taken. The short-term focus is on Harris as the new kid on the block, but as we move on into September/October, we will be able to focus more attention on Trump’s mental decline.

Harris raised $200M in first week of White House campaign and signed up 170,000 volunteersWASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has raised $200 million since she emerged as the likely Democratic presidential nominee last week, an eyepopping haul in her race against the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump. The campaign, which announced its latest fundraising total on Sunday, said the bulk of the donations — 66% — comes from first-time contributors in the 2024 election cycle and were made after President Joe Biden announced his exit from the race and endorsed Harris. Over 170,000 volunteers have also signed up to help the Harris campaign with phone banking, canvassing and other get-out-the-vote efforts. Election Day is 100 days away. “The momentum and energy for Vice President Harris is real — and so are the fundamentals of this race: this election will be very close and decided by a small number of voters in just a few states,” Michael Tyler, the campaign’s communications director, wrote in a memo. Harris campaigned in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on Saturday, drawing hundreds to a fundraiser that had been organized when Biden was still at the top of the Democratic ticket. The fundraiser had originally been expected to raise $400,000 but ended bringing in about $1.4 million, according to the campaign. Harris quickly coalesced Democratic support after Biden, whose candidacy fizzled following his disastrous June 27 debate performance against Trump, exited the race. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former House Minority Whip Jim Clyburn, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were quick to announce their support. Prodigious Democratic fundraisers former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama announced their endorsement on Friday. Rest of article here: Harris raised $200M in first week of White House campaign and signed up 170,000 volunteers

I agree that the Democratic Party needs to market itself better. Taking the high road just doesn't work against the current Republican Party. They need to shout their accomplishments from the hilltops. they also need to point out how unfit IN EVERY WAY that Trump is. it is not just that he is a criminal. we all know that. it is that he has a distaste for democracy that he has fostered his entire life. candidly, i can see how people would find that refreshing- that he admits it outloud. but admitting it outloud does not make it better. it makes it far worse. Lippman also had a distaste for democracy. but his idea was to use that notion to protect the REPUBLIC. Trump's vision of the Republic is far different than (most of) the rest of the US. it is a vision that is not a consent decree, but one of force.

(the reason why they need to point it out is that most of his fans still seem to think he is fit for office. i know that not many will be peeled away. it is more to solidify the resolve of those that have already been peeled away, or are heading that way)
