DD1 - Harper - Always loved the name, love To Kill a Mockingbird. Middle name is half of my favorite aunt's first name. DD2 - Chloe - Random name thrown out while I was in labor. Her name was supposed to be Adaline Rose, but she came out stubborn and 8 pounds of squish - not looking like a dainty Adaline Rose at all. Wish I would have given her the middle name Jane after Jane Austen, but I suck at middle names. I suck at middle names too. I let DH pick those. I didn't really care too much what they were. What?! Didn't you know that as a mom when you got angry you are required to yell at them using entire first.middle.last name? You should care that it had a solid ring to it! Middle names are important!

First was Sarah, don't know why. Middle name Elizabeth was to give her a number of derivatives if she didn't want to use Sarah. Not sure where Leslie came from either but after we decided on it, my ex refused to allow Morlie as a middle name. Here lays the body of Les Moore Killed by six shots from a forty-four No less, no more We settled on Marie for a middle name. Elizabeth is the best middle name. Options galore.

No kids for this 50's baby. My grandmothers' names were Bertha Mae and Flossie Mae. So the middle name was easy. The first name was picked because they liked it. They thought I was going to be a boy so only had boys' names picked out. There were 5 kids with my first name in my kindergarten class of 12 students. I have always been happy with Mae as my middle name. Bertha Mae has over 50 grandchildren so she couldn't make quilts for all of them. She decided to make quilts for the ones that were named after her or grandpa. Three of us got quilts. I am so happy with that quilt. It is so special and I have had so many cousins tell me they were jealous I got one. Grandma never told her children she was going to do this until most of them were born. The missy's middle name is Mae. DD1 and I fell in love with that name.

I'm a Russian who married a Jew, in a bilingual milieu. The name had to be Russian, Hebrew, French and English, to please everyone. Not an easy feat. So, I came up with Simon. Not too many Simons around outside the UK. I also really like the name.
Russians have no middle names.

The only requirement was that DH and I agree. It was not easy, we found out the gender at 20 weeks, not having a boy name picked out. Luckily it was a girl, so we had a name. I realized after she was born and named that all 3 of DH's children have gender neutral names that end in the sound "en". Her name was controversial, most of the family didn't like it at all, but she loves it.

In English, it's SImon. In Russian, it's SimYON. In Hebrew, it's SHImon. In French, it's SiMON.
It checked off all the boxes.

Middle names were to honor family members. First names had some religious significance, and because DH & I both liked the names.

I just picked names I liked. Only requirement was to have an A middle names. So I have Kimberly, Ryan and Jeremy. The only controversy was when I had my first boy and I wanted to name him Jeremy. DH’s grandmother told him he couldn’t because his cousin had a boy named Jeremy, and they had same last name. So older boy is Ryan. But for 2nd boy, said to heck with it, he is going to be Jeremy. We lived 200 miles away from DH family, and have only seen the other Jeremy twice at funerals. Of course my Jeremy now lives in Atlanta area and so does the other one, but they have a fairly common last name. We have 3 Matthews and 3 Roberts on either side of the family and we manage to keep the dozen of them straight.

I would have hated to give him the same name as 15 of his classmates. I think the Russian exchange student one year was Simon. our Belgian exchange student was Laurent. I just pulled that memory out of the air after I hit send on the last comment. he was 90s Euro hot to this very awkward suburban teenager. lol... shaved head except a patch at the top/front hairline that was down to his shoulders. blond, with ice blue eyes. and I played dumb/needing a French tutor to do what, idk now as an adult. but 15yo me was enthralled. re: traditional names, though. my dad and his siblings, all of them. the boys have Joseph as their middle name, the girls all have Marie. on ALL of their immigration paperwork, the three boys are legally in the US as Joseph, and the four girls are all legally registered (they have all moved back to NB) as Marie. the paperwork was given to them with the instruction of "last name first" so they just filled it all in completely in reverse. as far as the grands, I don't know everyone's middle names, other than those that use it as their surname on FB. of those I know, we're all Marie/Joseph except my little sister. she and I are also the only ones that aren't 100% Acadian Roman Catholic.

I was trying to find a pic to share that looked right. none of what came up on first search looks right. I'll edit this when I find one. his patch was maybe 1x2" across where a widow's peak would be on a symmetrical face. 2" wide, 1" deep, and his hair was the flowy poker straight that comes from a blowout. like, my 15yo self wasn't sure whether he was a model or a god. haha

My EX FIL and my Ex’s middle name is Isaac. Everyone was pressuring me to make my son a III but I passed. Compromised and gave him their first name and middle name of my choosing. He goes by his middle name. Doc thought they were going to have to send him home as baby no name ! I named himself the hour before leaving hospital. This was back in olden days when they held you captive for 5 days after giving birth.

My youngest cousin was an oopsie baby and my aunt had picked out the name early in her pregnancy. She always had a great sense of humor but she also wanted to honor her family. She picked Jason Mason. She liked that it rhymed.
My cousin was also pregnant at the same time and named her son Jason. I don't remember his middle name.
Jason Mason was born long after my grandma was gone or I am sure he would have received a quilt. He is the last person of that generation which has also meant that his daughter is the last of her generation.

The name I picked for my son was Christian Alexandrew but his parents thought that was too much so there was a compromise into something we thought would be unique. Turns out his first name was in the Top 10 for boy names for that year so...not so unique. lol. Middle name Alexander.
Seven years later...there were jokes about naming our daughter because the parent's last name is similar to bosom so they joked with Anita and Ophelia. We didn't go that route but her name was also in the Top 10 for her birth year. Her middle name is my first name.

My eldest is Sophia. It was suggested by my husband and I thought it was pretty and rather unusual because the only two I could name were Sophia Loren and Sophia from the Golden Girls. Turns out, it was the number one name in the country in 2008!
When I was pregnant with our second daughter, I wanted to make sure it wasn't as popular. I have a Gaelic name that is the bane of my existence so I was absolutely insistent that my children would have names that could be easily pronounced and spelled. When I was a child, my pretend name was Jane and when I was about 6 months pregnant my husband asked if I liked the name. "Why yes I do"!!!! I had never suggested it because I thought he would consider it too simple and plain.
Their middle names are Grace, after my late mother, and Elizabeth, after my husband's sister. DH loves his mother but doesn't like her name (and neither does she) but I was worried her feelings would be hurt.
I admit that I have name 'issues'. Whenever I hear people talking about giving their children unusual names, I just cringe inside because they have no idea of how awkward it can be to have to constantly repeat the pronunciation or spelling.
