I do not see how the country can remain the USA by pitting states against each other.

I'd go for 12 personally. They will try but I feel if we just put in one more it would be easy to stall for Republicans just like they did with Garland. Trying to stop three nominations happening at the same time is a lot more moving parts. I would prefer an odd number of justices like 11 or 13. Tie breaker sometimes needed. Thirteen justices for the 13 circuit courts.

No need for coat hangers. There are plenty of effective abortion pills out there now. They just need to figure out a way for doctors to prescribe to patients out of state and mail them. What worries me about that is that several states who plan to ban also plan to make taking that pill in your own home illegal. How many women will die from complications because they are too afraid to seek medical help for said complications? link“Some States have enacted laws extending to all forms of abortion procedure, including taking medication in one’s own home. They have passed laws without any exceptions for when the woman is the victim of rape or incest. Under those laws, a woman will have to bear her rapist’s child or a young girl her father’s — no matter if doing so will destroy her life.
“... Most threatening of all, no language in today’s decision stops the Federal Government from prohibiting abortions nationwide, once again from the moment of conception and without exceptions for rape or incest,” the dissent said.
The liberal justices also expressed grave concern that other individual rights, to contraception and to “same-sex intimacy and marriage,” may be under threat from the conservative majority.

no coherent thoughts is pretty spot on. I've been listening to coverage, and one law professor was discussing the concurring opinion of Clarence Thomas - openly inviting cases to challenge Griswold (contraception) and Obergefell (same-sex marriage). the snarky part of my brain wonders how his mental gymnastics works to not invite a case on Loving. Next up Brown vs The Board of Education. After all there is nothing in the constitution that says all children are entitled to equal education under the law. It was already ruled that federal funds can be used for religious schools. Iowa is working hard to take every penny from the public schools and give them to private religious schools that get to choose exactly which students to admit. The Republicans won this was their plan all along with Trump. I am kinda curious if now they will start dropping him like a hot potato. McConnell has achieved his ends, time for the puppet to be disposed of. I cannot like this post enough. But I doubt trump will get dropped like a hot potato - he still pulls a lot of attention and I suspect he rallies a lot of voters. Just think if getting trump into office accomplished what was wanted all along - think about how much more could be done by getting people who kowtow to trump into office will do. I'm guessing it's gonna really start to suck to be a woman or a person of color or any color/gender and poor in America 10 to 15 years from now.... as States start enacting legislation and as the Supreme Court starts making decisions on new issues brought before it.

Lots of people questioning Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barret possibly lying under oath. Manchin voted to confirm Neil Gorsuch in 2017 and Brett Kavanaugh the following year. After they joined a ruling dismantling the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, Manchin suggested the justices may have lied during their confirmation hearings.
“I trusted Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh when they testified under oath that they also believed Roe v. Wade was settled legal precedent and I am alarmed they chose to reject the stability the ruling has provided for two generations of Americans,” Manchin said in a statement.
At his confirmation hearing, Gorsuch described Roe as “a precedent of the U.S. Supreme Court” and said “a good judge will consider it as precedent of the U.S. Supreme Court worthy as treatment of precedent like any other.”

I am shocked they did such a thing. Not like there will be any punishment for it.

I am just sick over this. And even more worried about how much this court which is young will take away our rights. Women here are doomed. There needs to be a well funded, undercover organization for women to contact to get what they need. I would sure help such an organization. I'm old so if I end up in jail not like I'm going to lose my younger years. Hope they can find ways around it for these poor brood mares. Even livestock has limits on breeding to keep them healthy. ...like the Underground Railroad. Women will be coming to Canada, like the slaves did.

With everything else shifting and in flux and constantly vulnerable to being overloaded, Canada is the logical endpoint to the railroad.

Oh fuck Joe Manchin. He's "alarmed"? Bullshit. He like everyone else knew exactly what was up with those right-wing nominees. His alarm is phony and distasteful. Besides, the time for "alarm" has passed - now is the time for him to pull his head out of his ass, remember he's supposed to be a democrat and actually fucking do something. But of course, he won't. So again, fuck Joe Manchin.

I'm so shocked! Yesterday, they overturned a 108 year old law in NY on concealed carry, states don't have the right to regulate it (to save lives). Today, overturned a 50 year old law, insisting it's a state's right to decide on abortion. Oh, and save lives! And Pelosi is on tv making the same point about the hypocrisy, right now. Republicans wear their hypocrisy like a badge of honor. They are so very very proud of their hypocrisy. Fuck all the republicans too. EVERY. LAST. ONE.

Our piece of shit supreme court is making it so much harder to terminate a pregnancy safely and legally, and so much easier to just shoot a kid once it has left the womb. Good going republicans, your dreams have come true!

I am horrified and saddened by this and am more thankful than ever that CO turned blue several years ago. Welcome back to the 1800s ladies. If they aren't stopped now we will ultimately lose all of our rights. I hope this blows back on Repugnants ten fold. I know it will take time but I hopefully this will be the beginning of a revolution to rid our democracy of shit for brains in Mara a Lago and his ILK and enablers.

A concern of mine: In states where all abortions will be banned, will state medical doctors be required to report by name and other personal info all women who the doctors confirm as pregnant so that the state can follow the pregnancy to confirm the completion of same? And if not a full term healthy delivery, what happened to the unborn fetus and why?

And I am pushed back even deeper into "second class" human status... you can take it that way. i think drug laws are fundamentally unjust. a person should be able to do whatever he or she wishes with his or her person or property so long as they are not harming a non consenting other. therefore, i have IGNORED all drug laws from a young age. i will continue to do so. taking illegal drugs does NOT MAKE YOU A BAD PERSON.

They are also responsible for this the ratbastards who thought that there was ANY justification for withholding Garland from the court are to blame, imo. there was NONE, other than THIS. and THIS was not the will of the American people. ever.

They're saying overturning Roe v Wade would be Trump's lasting legacy.
I'll bet he paid for PLENTY of abortions as he was fucking his way from coast to coast during the Vietnam war. He doesn't give a damn about abortions. He just wanted to appeal to the Talibangelists who voted for him, and may do so in the future. The hypocrisy is sickening.
