I have no words. Or at least nothing coherent. I'm feeling despair, hopeless, infuriated, confused and overall like we're just plain fucked.

Sad day for democracy. The party of trump now owns the once nonpartisan Supreme Court. He can now ask them to make him king.

I am just sick over this. And even more worried about how much this court which is young will take away our rights. Women here are doomed.
There needs to be a well funded, undercover organization for women to contact to get what they need. I would sure help such an organization. I'm old so if I end up in jail not like I'm going to lose my younger years. Hope they can find ways around it for these poor brood mares. Even livestock has limits on breeding to keep them healthy.

I'm so shocked! Yesterday, they overturned a 108 year old law in NY on concealed carry, states don't have the right to regulate it (to save lives). Today, overturned a 50 year old law, insisting it's a state's right to decide on abortion. Oh, and save lives! And Pelosi is on tv making the same point about the hypocrisy, right now.

no coherent thoughts is pretty spot on. I've been listening to coverage, and one law professor was discussing the concurring opinion of Clarence Thomas - openly inviting cases to challenge Griswold (contraception) and Obergefell (same-sex marriage). the snarky part of my brain wonders how his mental gymnastics works to not invite a case on Loving.

Next up Brown vs The Board of Education. After all there is nothing in the constitution that says all children are entitled to equal education under the law. It was already ruled that federal funds can be used for religious schools. Iowa is working hard to take every penny from the public schools and give them to private religious schools that get to choose exactly which students to admit. The Republicans won this was their plan all along with Trump. I am kinda curious if now they will start dropping him like a hot potato. McConnell has achieved his ends, time for the puppet to be disposed of.

Maybe we can get term limits on SC justices? But what happened here goes back to that useless McConnell blocking hearings for a justice during Obama's term then allowing them under similar circumstances for trump. He has to go too. All party over country with the GOP.

make no mistake about it. this has been a half century project for them. the Democrats are going to have to be just as diligent about winning it back and keeping it.
in the meantime, prepare for much worse. the Dominionists are on the march.

All party over country with the GOP. SCOTUS justices should be AUTOMATICALLY referred for approval. that would be a relatively easy change in rules. a president earns the right to have his justice seated. that is just common sense.

I have no words. Or at least nothing coherent. I'm feeling despair, hopeless, infuriated, confused and overall like we're just plain fucked. Sadly, I think they've *just* got started. Realistically, what will happen is that some states will keep society progressing forward. States like mine, won't. The rural areas have been declining for quite some time. It's just going to hasten that. I think those that stay in urban areas, like myself, things will be OK.
I mean, for my husband and myself. Whatever. I like where I'm living enough. I don't have it in my to fight the system anymore. I can't fight every fight for the have nots, while working two jobs and parenting my kids, and making a half ass attempt at keeping myself upright. I mean, I'd love to. But, there's just not enough of me to go around.
Maybe if I had a different life. My kids, though. They will be told to leave and never come back. I might have to delay retirement to save up extra money to visit them. Four kids is a lot of visiting.

All party over country with the GOP. Democrats need to stop being the bigger person and fight dirty. Get the filibuster removed and up the number of justices to at least 12. Then nominate as many people as they can for those additional three seats NOW so they can't do what they did with Obama because Biden is in office another 1.5 years.

Sad day for democracy. The party of trump now owns the once nonpartisan Supreme Court. He can now ask them to make him king. I'm reading The Brethern by Bob Woodward about late 60s early 70s S.C. So much deja vue! It has some of the lead into Roe. I'm afraid the Court has always been partisan. The beauty of no term limit was the Judges could evolve their thinking. The downside is that the Judges could stay on beyond their mental capacity. I highly recommend reading or re-reading it.

I will assist in some way in helping women living in states where abortion is banned travel to states where abortion is legal.
I also expect a run on and then shortage of metal coat hangers very soon.

As a woman, I get tired of fighting the same old sh*t. But, I will continue to fight against stupidity, not only for my own DD, but for other women. Women are so much more than "breeding stock", and deserve all of the respect that men get. I remember when I was very young that someone was teaching how to use a vacuum cleaner to do an abortion. There is NO WAY we should be going back to that & coat hangers out of desperation. And yes, the Democratic Party has to get a lot better at "fighting dirty", as the Republicans have been doing it for quite awhile.

I don't think we'll see coat hangers. I think the middle class will disappear. It will be a two class system: Have or have not. I mean, I'm already seeing it in my state. My husband and I are solid middle class. We are a dying breed. What is going to happen is that more folk are going to end up have nots. Which is going to put pressure on a whole lot more things. Schools that don't know how to educate kids that haven't eaten for a few days are going to have to start grappling with that.
Medicine is going to have to figure out how to deal with a bigger non-paying customer base. Half the people in the US aren't paying taxes right now (including us). What's going to happen when that number goes up? Remember, they haven't managed to address SS now. What's going to happen when more people rely on it to keep them out of abject poverty.
What's going to happen to the workforce? If you have to spend your day figuring out food and stuff, that doesn't leave much time for a job. Can't get a job if you aren't mildly presentable. Toiletries cost money.
I suspect the changes that are coming are going to sneak up on us. I mean, Roe and whatever else comes down the pike will hasten things..but mostly the culmination is going to sneak up on us.
One of the small bedroom communities to my city has gone from a 4% poverty rate in the public schools to a 25% poverty rate over the public schools over about the past 10-15 years. Unless you know what to look for, the slide over that time frame has been pretty innocuous.. It's just one day you wake up and you are like "Shit!" when did that happen.

What really bothers me is they don't even include a protection for the life of the woman. That should be an automatic right.
I was laughed at by Republicans when I said after they eliminated the right to abortion they would go after Birth Control.
But, I have to say that this court is way worse than I even expected. No Miranda rights, no right to an appeal of conviction. They are definitely fascists.

I'm scared for people, like my DN who came out a few years ago. There's a big pride celebration that's happening soon, and I'm worried about violence happening there. Too much crazy right now.

Trying to stop three nominations happening at the same time is a lot more moving parts.

I'm in Georgia so it looks like the terribly restrictive law they passed will become reality. I'm anxious for my daughters but scared for poor women.
I've been meaning to donate to Senator Warnock's re-election campaign for a while now. I just did so and also donated to Stacey Abrams' campaign for governor. I had to do 'something'.

No need for coat hangers. There are plenty of effective abortion pills out there now. They just need to figure out a way for doctors to prescribe to patients out of state and mail them.

Unless you know what to look for, the slide over that time frame has been pretty innocuous.. It's just one day you wake up and you are like "Shit!" when did that happen. There was some rumblings yesterday I think in JSOnline about putting in Rent Protections for tenants. As a landlord, and with my DS owning a duplex, I find it horrifying that some people think it is entirely reasonable to limit how much a landlord can charge for rent. The area my DS grew up in near South Division HS in Milwaukee - and the area where we sent my DS to pre-school, there are half million dollar houses now. They are C1900 houses, but if you bought the house for a half million, you would expect to be able to charge rent based on the market. You know the city is going to base the assessment for tax purposes on recent sales, so taxes are going to go up too. If you have rentals as part of your portfolio, you are entitled to benefit from your investment by increasing the rent, just as your would get dividends or capital gains if you invested in the stock market. If the government wants to protect low income tenants, then they can subsidize the rental rates. They aslo should do something like indexing the minimum wage to inflation. I would really like to see my DD go to a state that will protect women's rights, but I expect she will go wherever her opportunities are the greatest. Hopefully she will stay away from Texas, but she could very well end up in Atlanta, GA. My husband and I could go to Mexico, as he has dual citizenship, and my kids would be able to go there too, but I am not sure we would be safe there, and I don't think my kids would be willing to go. I think it will take a few years for this to sink in with people, so I think we will have to wait a few election cycles to change anything. I think at that point, they will have changed the rules so much that we will not be allowed to make any changes that the fascists didn't pre-approve.

No need for coat hangers. There are plenty of effective abortion pills out there now. They just need to figure out a way for doctors to prescribe to patients out of state and mail them. That'll only work for the early stages of pregnancy. It won't help the woman who is further along and received devastating news about her fetus or her own life. It also won't help when states make it a crime to cross state lines to access abortion.

And in the latest from the Lone Star State "Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his statement on the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade announced the statewide closure of his agency’s offices Friday “in honor of the nearly 70 million unborn babies killed in the womb since 1973,” according to a release from the attorney general’s office." I'm sure the Texas legislature will make this a state holiday when they're in session next year

Not looking forward to work today. There is going to be praising god for saving the innocent babies and prayers that the same foolishness happens up here. Easy to think this is a good idea when you are male and have taken a vow of chasity

This is only the start. Any progress made in the last 100 years will fall.
This will only cause a larger rise in poverty in areas that are already struggling. Not everyone can afford to move, and even if they could what would prevent a state from changing laws after you move?
