How many school shootings have there been since the Shooting at Sandy Hook in CT? How many dead children as a result? How many other mass shootings? How many dead? Yet we continue to do nothing, strike that, less than nothing. We are relaxing our gun laws. Why do we think this is going to change? At this point, either do something, admit this is our "normal" and accept it, or admit we truly do not care. Enough is enough. Gun violence is one of the many factors that drive up our healthcare costs. Maybe if we want to save money we will do something. a friend posted this list on FB earlier, it's huge so it's going in a spoiler. I'll bold Sandy Hook about halfway down the list. I'm not watching the coverage more than accidentally, but I just saw someone post on my fb feed about how the cops retreated from the guy. If that's true so much for good men with guns bent the reason we don't need gun control.

Great Abbott. Go tell that to the parents who will never hold their children again. Let's see how well THAT goes over. I suggest however you make sure you are encased in bulletproof gear and covered on all sides by security paid for in part by the taxes from those parents or you Could discover first hand how well parents react to this bit if "positive" news. I sure would not bet on none of them having guns... |

So, I am genuinely asking, what can I, a middle age Black woman living in a blue corner of a red state, who has owned firearms, do to become part of the solution? The politicians in this state do not give even a partial fuck about what we have to say in this little blue corner. When they changed the law, what last year, so that you know longer have to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon, the leaders here spoke up about how terrible that was, nobody cared. It passed anyway. We are very much outnumbered by the rest of the state. But I still ask, what can I do to help? That is a very serious question. Our little corner cannot secede and join a neighboring state because they all worship guns over God like Tennessee. |

People say the most incredibly stupid things at time like these.... I suppose it was meant as a comfort but just sounds crass. Saw some pictures on the news of the children involved  What a terrible and senseless loss. There is absolutely nothing that can justify what happened to them. |

EDITTED: Sorry not a reply to Justme - but to the thought expressed in her post: I think it might be the narrative that having a gun(s) means you are "Patriotic" OR alternatively that having one means you are a "real man" and you are hot and sexy and desirable you are powerful. Those Holiday photos of politician's families holding their favorite guns.... what that said was "Look at US! we're "patriots"! even out children have guns!!! " I'm guessing the photos of regular people with their guns (on social media) says "I'm strong, powerful, hot and sexy! I MATTER!!! ). Just out of curiosity: If you are NOT posing with a deer, wild turkey, grouse, pheasant, iguana or some other animal you've just killed as part of a "hunt" OR if you are NOT posing showing off a your shot up "target" while at the shooting range, or posing while shooting skeet/whatever those things are called... I ask this question: How many of the gun owners on this board have taken pictures of themselves WITH their gun showing it off and distributed those pictures on social media? Have you taken pictures of yourself with the gun with the intent to display it in your home? or to give to friends? Why or why not  How does handling and showing off your gun(s) make you feel ? That’s only acceptable when you’re white. Black people who post pics of themselves with guns are thugs. |

I think some of the first responders did not have body armor, but shooter had body armor.
I think they had something like 80 law enforcement officers on the scene. It lasted about an hour to bring down one Man with a gun & body armor.
Thoughts and prayers.
Republican Response: Lets not Politicize this.

Watching Andrew McCabe interviewed by Don Lemon on CNN, Re: first responders not entering building for an hour. He said it was something investigators would explore, but too early to comment on/answer if right or wrong. He did say normally they say they should enter ASAP because killings happen with in first minutes shooter is in building.

If it takes 80 people who are trained to do this an hour to take down an 18 year old on a mission - how is that not a giant holy fuck things aren't right red flag? How is this not a big giant "oh gee 80 good guys with guns couldn't stop one bad guy". 80 people who literally do drills and receive training on this took an hour to take him out. Frankly it's surprising it wasn't more found dead. |

All they need to do is stop the sale of these assault rifles - why do normal people need these? That is what I dont understand at all. You can have guns that can shoot a few bullets - not something used by the military.
Really feeling down today - those poor babies.

You can have guns that can shoot a few bullets - not something used by the military. Really feeling down today - those poor babies.  This is where I want to start - ban sales of ALL assault rifles to civilians, period. NY governor Hochul is pushing to raise the age to buy assault rifles from 18 to 21 (and NY has tough gun laws, relatively). What? No - ban them all! |

A talking head on TV this am outlined the conservative talking points behind any of these shootings:
1) Offer thoughts and prayers for this horrible lone crazy gunman attack.
2) Insist we can’t make this political.
3) Insist any proposed new gun laws wouldn’t stop every mass shooting, so it’s pointless to propose new gun laws.
4) Divert attention to some proposed new regulations that don’t involve gun laws - like mental health issues.
Of course, when the outrage has died down, the GOP politicians will go back to defunding mental health treatment, but for now, they’ll pretend that’s the only possible way to fix these shootings.
Look at all the far right GOP politician’s statements right now, they’re dutifully following this template almost word for word.

Not retweets, but the same cut and paste formula. It's blatantly obvious they were repeating something they'd been told to amplify, and the good little robots dutifully did the minimum necessary to comply. No thought, no nuance, just bot-like bully behavior. |

Woo Hoo! I am hearing chatter about the NEW rifle the Army will be using to replace the AR series guns. It's Bigger, Badder, MORE powerful. (as in has a longer range, pierces body armor, and does more bodily damage.) And get this there will be a version of it available for civilians to purchase!! America!!! Freedom!!!
All those AR rifles everyone has bought-- so yesterday and lame. The NEW rifles will be the thing....
Can't wait to see what one of those does to roomful of school kids or a street full of people.
I'm guessing that in a year or two - a concession will finally be made and AR series rifles will be banned or some how constrained - but that new series of rifles - they will still be sold with no constraints. It's a win win - something WAS done about gun violence AND Americans get to own especially deadly weapons for fun!
