One of the new choices/thought patterns I'm embracing in 2023 is believing who people really are when they tell me out loud. I tend to waste too much energy trying to find the good in folks, while they are clearly and loudly signaling what they really are. Sometimes there just isn't a better thing to find-what you see is what you get. I love this for you. I started honoring this a couple years ago (bedore covid)IRL and it's been refreshing. the benefits to my sanity have been measurable. 💗

I'm trying to wrap my head around a meeting next week. I got an email from one of the attendees, saying "if you don't do this, I will do that". I've been retired from the pay world for more than a bit, but this really grated on my last nerve. I didn't reply to the email, there was no direct question asked and it went to about 15 folks. But she will be at the meeting Monday night. Thoughts, tips, hints? How to deal with this weird passive-aggressive crap?

I'd call her out directly, in public. but I'm an asshole like that. 🤷♀️ pose the original question back to her, and remind her of her response via email, dated xx/xx, and invite her to respond to the full quorum.

I already ordered one, it should be delivered in the next couple of days. Thanks! Also, Mister already has one, he uses it for the cigars he keeps in the bar. He told me I could “borrow” it for a couple of days lol, so it’s in the bedroom now.

I think an excellent start would be accepting that dementia cannot be boiled down to a 5-10 question survey give one time in a very specific location. If I showed you pictures of the house in the condition we found it in without context and asked you if you thought this is a person who should be living alone you would have said hell no. It was like a scene out of Silent Hill. Same with her hygiene. This wasn't like oh she used to wear make-up every day and now she doesn't it. My grandmother's hair was YELLOW from all the scalp build up and it SMELLED. I feel so bad for the nurses who had to clean that. I won't describe her toenails. But none of that is taken into account even though every single article I read said those are often the first signs that someone's mental condition is declining. Nope instead because she could repeat five random words it was perfectly fine for her to live alone in Treynor. And there needs to be better protocol for it too. No taking "good enough" or spoon feeding the answers both of which my dad saw when he sat in on one. He argued that is not what you asked her and the screener was just like "meh close enough" and she passed.
Person, woman, man, camera, TV And sadly, be President.

I get amused when Mister tells me about getting on his Dad about clutter and stuff. His Dad dragged some of those comforters and left them in the floor in the laundry room. When Mister saw them he said he told his Dad “Man if you don’t get this outta here before that lady comes through here and has a stroke! I keep telling you she doesn’t like this kind of stuff, and I don’t want to hear her mouth.” Then a few minutes ago, Mister went in the guest bathroom and the roll on the toilet tissue holder was empty. “Daddy! You gotta put a new roll on there when you use it up. She makes sure it’s always extra rolls of toilet tissue in the bathrooms, so we don’t have an excuse. You are NOT going to be the reason I have to listen to this lady’s mouth and end up getting out put of my house!”
After all the fights with the teens the first couple of years we were here, I guess Mister did learn a little about what irritates me, since he keeps getting on his Dad. One time he told his Dad, “I can roll with the stuff you keep doing, but SHE can’t and I’m not trying to get fussed at or have her walking around here all irritable and shit”. I appreciate that Mister is mindful of not letting his Dad make too much of a mess, and I don’t care that he blames it on me, because he wasn’t lying when he said most of that stuff wouldn’t bother him, but he knows it would bother me. It’s just funny the things he says sometimes when he is telling his Dad to get it together.
I asked Mister if his Dad had put the comforters in the laundry room floor so they could be washed, he said yes. I said I will gladly wash them, but then they’re going to be put away, because there’s no reason for him to be dragging all those comforters and a blanket all over the house. Mister said that was fine with him. Our house does get cold at night because I get so hot when I’m in bed, so he can have an extra comforter if need be, to help keep him warm at night. But just ONE extra, not all the other ones he’s been dragging around and piling up on the floor in the bedroom.
His Dad loaded the dishwasher earlier today. Thank goodness he didn’t know how to turn it on, because half of our glasses would’ve likely got broken. Pots on the top rack leaning against glasses and stuff like that. Even though he did it all wrong, I did appreciate the effort lol.

We spent today in Cabo. It was an absolutely perfect day, and we had 2 excursions planned. First was a boat trip, the second was to visit the old part of the city. TD lost his room card….again.
Tonight I have to put on real clothes (shorts and a t don’t count) to wear to dinner as we have reservations. Lunch today was a strawberry popsicle on the run.

No taking "good enough" or spoon feeding the answers both of which my dad saw when he sat in on one. He argued that is not what you asked her and the screener was just like "meh close enough" and she passed. We could have intervened a lot sooner if ALL her symptoms had been taken into account to form a diagnosis. Unfortunately you need that evidence to be able to access and get approved for a lot of services around here. Without that we could do nothing not even home care because she didn't need it according to the doctor she passed so she was perfectly capable of living unassisted in any fashion. There has to be a middle ground somewhere because my grandma's generation is still kicking and the boomers are going to continue to age. It's already a crisis and it's only going to get worse. I did some snipping. Dad did well on the 10 questions. He took it as a challenge. The nurse passed him on the questions he had trouble with because he was trying. I have it saved on my computer. With my sister in denial about the cognitive issues, the lack of caring for himself, etc., it didn't help. She didn't wake up until the doctor finally recommended hospice. When the social worker came out, she said hospice would not accept him as a patient because he should not be living alone and needed to be in a care facility, like a nursing home. Not even assisted living. So hospice wouldn't take him and how could that be? The next week, dad had a stroke and never saw his apartment again. 2 weeks in the hospital (he was completely dehydrated) and 3 weeks in a nursing home and he was gone. That's worse to me than living in a nursing home.

Jerseyguy had a transfusion this morning then pulmonologist drained fluid from his lung about 1.5 liters. Fluid was very bloody and doctor thought it might be from when Jerseyguy fell off treadmill. He’s on a blood thinner. Doctor said that might be why his hemaglobin kept decreasing. He’s was in ER since Monday in a hallway but was in a room for the procedures. He just called and he’s now in an actual hospital room - no room mate. He wasn’t getting regular meals in the ER and really couldn’t sleep. So happy he’s in a better environment and maybe home tomorrow?? I had a Zoom meeting for board of charity tonight. We’re still waiting for the state to send a draft long term lease contract. Hoping we can start renovations to the vacant dorm in the summer. Looking to have the Deaf and DeafBlind residents move into apartments in autumn?? We’ve been waiting so long to get this a reality

I started reading “The Body Keeps The Score” this evening. I think it’s about how long term and/or severe stress can cause so many problems, mentally and physically. I’ve only read about 40 pages so far, and decided it’s better to read it during the daytime, so I’m not thinking about it when it’s time to go to sleep. It starts with talking about veterans with PTSD from being on battlefields, and what the author learned from trying to help them. That was a bit much to read so close to my bedtime, so I put it down until tomorrow.
But it’s another book that I’ve seen recommended a lot, so I’m going to read it, just not this late in the evening.
I plan to read The Four Agreements next. There is a woman I’ve been following on FB since 2017/2018, who goes live a lot. It is very clear from following her, that she has done a LOT of growing since I first started watching her. Her lives started because her Mom had just died, and she found comfort in going live on FB for whatever reason. Originally her lives were her doing her makeup and offering tips. Because of her fun personality, she blew up, became FB famous, and ended up using her FB fame to become an entrepreneur. Now, she’s made millions of dollars with her online boutique, and she resigned from her good gubmint job a few years ago to work for herself.
The first couple of years or so, her lives were entertaining, but also made people with a heart have compassion for her. She was fun, but also a whole, kind of ratchet mess. But she has very clearly grown so much since then. She still has the gift of gab and a great personality, but although they are still interesting, her lives aren’t entertaining in the way they were in the beginning, they are about growth and spirituality a lot of times these days. And I am proud of her growth like she is my little sister or something lol.
Anyway, she is currently reading The Four Agreements with her husband. What she’s said about the book so far was enough for me to be curious about it and make a mental note to check it out. Today when I picked up my Kindle, to find and buy “The Body Keeps The Score”, I was surprised to see that at some point…. I have no idea when, and for whatever reason that I don’t remember, I’d already bought The Four Agreements. I just had never read it. Maybe I wasn’t really ready for it whenever I bought it, and it’s just been sitting there waiting for me to be ready.
That is the kind of stuff I mean when I say I became a believer about “when the student is ready, the Master appears”, because I absolutely feel like that happens to me. When I am serious about learning and growing because I feel like I’m “stuck”, all of a sudden, information is just there, all around me. And even things that I’ve seen or read before, can take on a whole new meaning.
My apologies for rambling again. I keep saying I’m going to start journaling instead of writing my thoughts out here, as has been suggested to me before (demanded) in a not so nice way. I am working my way toward that, but I’m obviously not there yet.

Unfortunately all the hospitals are really crowded . DS is an ortho surgeon in Northern California and he said they’re on the verge of needing to cancel elective surgeries. Thinking in general the population of the US is growing and we’re not building new hospitals. Plus this winter there’s the Covid, flu ,RSV increase on top of all the aging population

I feel so bad. After their snack I can let Smoke back out, but if I let Tigger out, he goes to rattle hubs door again. I was hoping he would learn but guess he has not connected having to go to his bedroom with rattling. So here is Smoke all curled up on my lap till I put him in there later. It's just not fair. He is flopped on his back, with his little paws up and his tail was wrapped around my wrist. What a little lover he is.
Hubs got the 2 X 4's up on the one end of the basement divider wall today. I think he is ready for drywall on that end, he has the doors too. The bathroom will probably cost us near $3k, just guessing. But I know an upflush toilet is at least a thousand, a shower will be too. And the sinks have raised so likely $600 at least. And we are putting a cabinet in there for towels, and other items for a bathroom. He is going to do the other wall first before the bathroom. And I'm trying to get him to insulate and do the outside wall also, so we can have electrical outlets down it. He said he is out of circuits so will likely have to tie into some existing ones. Big problem only having outlets down the middle of the basement. He put lots in the 2 rooms he enclosed. I figure $3 to $5k to finish it out. He will put a dropped ceiling in the main area too. It will make a great woman cave and could be 2 extra bedrooms on top of that which would make this a 5 bedroom house.
I did get the big room up here mopped too, it is hardwood and now nice and clean. It's so easy to do with this hardwood I don't know why I don't do it more often.
Hubs wants me to look for a fixer upper in Washington. He said something we could pay cash for, then we could move stuff into it. Long as we have a bathroom and some kind of functional kitchen would work till he could fix it. I'm sure he would do the kitchen and bathroom first. He said then we could move this stuff, have no payments and sell this house. Then we would have the money to redo it and not get into our retirement money.

It does sound like your hubby is more interested in moving now. Another fixer-upper might be just what he needs to convince him.

DD1 says her hospital has no rooms or, if they have rooms, no staff to care for patients so the rooms can't be used. All the hospitals for 10 hours around them are in the same shape. She's been boarding people in ER for days. She feels bad and is sorry but literally has no where to move people to. To open room so she can see more sick people instead of treating them in the waiting room. 🥺

I'm looking up reviews for a dog treat maker, you make yourself. Similar to a waffle maker. But you make it with your own healthy ingredients. DD1 got one for Christmas. ($40) Then I saw them on sale, after Christmas and asked if she wanted one. ($12). Tonight I saw them at a different Kroger store, for $4, so bought one for her partner's mom and g-ma. All came from Kroger stores, just different locations.
From what I read, they got pretty good reviews, although a lot said they adjusted the recipes.

Some true words of wisdom right here. My slant on it is that I have to learn that many people aren't as logical as I am. So when I try to interpret their behavior through my ultra logical lense it doesn't work at all. I just end up completely baffled and confused. A similar example that goes along with the aging stories. MIL could care less about hygiene. It's gross and DH and I can't figure out how/why she chooses to live like that but she's been that way for years. It took a few years after his functional alcoholic dad died to realize just how much he was carrying the household. The best way I could explain it to dd14 who's well old enough to question it is MIL was allowed to be lazy and cared for in her upbringing as the poor little blind girl, youngest of 11. Meanwhile blind FILs folks said yes you're disabled but you will make a life for yourself. And then there is MILs sheer laziness, again completely foreign to me because she's barely worked a full yr in her life. In her 40s, she couldn't hold a walmart greeter job bc of her hygiene. MIL is also completely stuck in the poverty cycle with some whoa is me thinking about it. She smokes like crazy bc she's bored...this has killed her sense of smell which doesn't help DHs hygiene arguments with her. She eats like crap so no wonder there are GI issues. She's not educated enough to trust doctors about that and things like covid. No one taught her to brush her teeth or made her as a kid so she's the poster child for terrible dental health as is SIL. Now she needs dentures and hearing aids but expects them to be handed to her and will gripe about the system to anyone who will listen. The same system that supported her and her family for decades. And years ago, the blind had a powerful lobby so their system is better than most. Extra tax refunds, seeing eye dogs, etc. DH wants to get her a third dog - two have passed thru the yrs, but he won't Subject a highly trained dog to her lifestyle even though she really needs one for safety as she goes deaf. SIL didn't break the poverty cycle like DH did. Dd14 is also starting to ask why. I'm so careful in these conversations to be factual but gracious. SIL didn't have a good hs friend group like DH did so hr headed off to college and she dropped out. Their parents babied her as the youngest and also a girl. She's six yrs younger than us, so DH was moved out by the time she hit teen yrs. We learned at Christmas that her 16 yo son is interested in becoming a commercial pilot. He put together the research to do it and found a small flight school near them. Sounds like it is $6k all in for 2 yrs and then some extra flight hours besides. I told dh nows our chance to help break the cycle for nephew. So we sent a large gift certificate for flight hours at his school with the promise of more if he sticks with it. Have I mentioned sil home schools nephew and 6 yo niece? Even dd14 says mom that's a horrible idea.

Good morning, thoughtful and wise invisipeeps of Y Ma'am. Welcome to Friday, all day. I hope yours is peppered with LOLs and includes solutions to problems that have been vexing you. Today is the day we will pack up Christmas in the house of finnime. The new storage boxes I ordered came yesterday and since it's going to be another rainy day, we'll spend it on that chore. I wish it were cold enough to snow. Instead, it's lingering at about 40 sloppy wet degrees. Yesterday I bought a new winter coat for every day use here. It has a detachable hood with a detachable fur trim. It's long, down below my butt, and has zippers on each side from the bottom to make it easier to sit as well as has a two-way front zipper. I really like it. Because it was pricey I'm declaring it my birthday present from my mother. She would approve, I know. We've had gray rainy days for the fifth day now. I'm posting a picture from a dawn last week to give a bit of cheer. It will be like this again, complete with the fairy cloud.

Gotta see a pic of a dog in pj's. Pinks pic made me smile, esp the pockets ROFL. Gira - if you're inclined to share the prep list, I'm sure a few of us would benefit. Glad the mtg also helped put you and dh on the same page. Even if he didn't fully listen, I'm sure you took notes that you fqb refer him to I’m glad it made you smile. It has at least 4 pockets. We were still in the store when I asked Mister why Boy needed all those pockets (Mister picked the jacket) and when he said “so he can put his stuff in them”, it was with a straight face like he was really serious and that’s why it was so funny to me. Why do dogs get real pockets while women get "fake" pockets (for fashion) on their clothing?

Jerseyguy had a transfusion this morning then pulmonologist drained fluid from his lung about 1.5 liters. Fluid was very bloody and doctor thought it might be from when Jerseyguy fell off treadmill. He’s on a blood thinner. Doctor said that might be why his hemoglobin kept decreasing. I'm so glad to read he's in a real room! Decent sleep and nutrition are a big part of recovery. And it makes me happy to read that he got a blood transfusion- I'm off to the blood bank today to drop off a pint and collect Nutter Butter cookies. That's what I do for excitement. Yesterday, with DS' permission, I posted on LinkedIn about his passing 2 actuarial exams last year after 15 years in Claims Adjusting and his start in a new position in his employer's Actuarial Department. There have been 26 "likes" and similar reactions, many from former colleagues of mine who remember him as a child. It warms my heart.

I've heard them called snack holes. He may need snacks for later.

I'm so over people I can't even stand it. I've been in a pissing contest since yesterday with a client. I don't know how many ways I can say that it's not our responsibility to make sure that there is enough money in your account to pay your premium. Nope, it's our problem. This guy didn't put it on autopay as requested. Yes he did, your fucking check bounced! Pay us or go elsewhere.

I'm also sore and feeling old. Boxing was intense yesterday. We run through a circuit of exercises before we move to the heavy bags. Yesterday's circuit was 20 burpees, 20 pushups, 20 situps, and 20 squats. We ran through it 5 times so 100 of each. I'm dying today.
