Brought Jerseyguy to hospital yesterday about 9am.He has fluid on lung and was having trouble breathing. The ER was hugely busy he was in bed in corrider . The entire ER is lined with corrider beds. Doctor said he was admitted , I left around 4 as it’s rush hour and wanted to get home before dark Called this morning he’s still in corrider waiting for a room along with 30 others in the ER I’m hoping neither of us gets another plague - flu, RSV, Covid etc He’ll be there at least till Thursday as he will have fluid drained but needs to be off blood thinner for some amount of time I don’t remember Went to sleep at 9 and slept till 9 am. No paper again, we got paper maybe 3 times in last 2 weeks. so called to cancel but on hold for 5 min. Will try later Will take down tree etc today. And vacuum his ‘favorite’ chair - expecting lots of crumbs under cushion I hope he got a room by now and is doing better. When I had DD1 I was left in the corridor for the first day and a half. Back then, they had a minimum stay of 3-5 days.

I got this shirt from Target. In women's clothes I wear a size medium or large depending on how it's cut. I got it in a large since it's a t shirt. I'd rather it be too large than too small. It's enormous! It's unisex which I default to men's sizing on. It's even big for a men's large which would be a women's XL. I'm hoping it shrinks at least a little in the wash. If I'm still swimming in it after washing it I'll cut the bottom half of and use it as an oversized crop top. I wear them to the gym all the time. www.target.com/p/pride-adult-igualdad-short-sleeve-t-shirt-blue-l/-/A-84661660It says equality on it in Spanish in case someone wanted to know. Link brought up a pink tea pot, for me. Haha

Good morning, invisipeeps expanding your consiousnesses. Welcome to Wednesday. I hope your day gives you the boldness and strength to delve in and enjoy what comes and ends with a happy note. It rained here pretty much all day yesterday. I did get some pictures hung and when we went out saw a winter coat that I've pretty much decided to buy to replace the 12-year-old one I've been wearing for walking the dog in the cold. This one's expensive, $189, but is just perfect. I've decided to call it my birthday present from my mother, who died 20 years ago. She'd want me to have it. Yesterday I also developed a low-level headache that persisted for hours. First I've had since we moved north, amazingly enough. I beat it back finally with an ice gel helmet I got on Prime Day, that really does work. Surprised me, too. Before the rain really kicked in yesterday morning we had some light and tiny dinosaurs circled in the inlet at the beach end, supervised by the seagulls.

Schools are running 2 hours late today. Crossing my fingers it's not completely cancelled again. I need to get back in the office before people start getting twitchy about it.

For work, I got invited to a conference that’s being held next month. I wanted to fly out of BWI but may need to out of a DC area airport instead. I’m headed to ONT (in CA). For those that fly between East and West coast, any airlines to focus on? I tend to fly Southwest but not sure if I’ll be able to this time because of flight times. I’d be leaving Tuesday and coming back either Thursday night or Saturday (may have another thing to do while in town on Friday but need to get it approved first). DD told me Spirit has one of the worst “on time records” in the industry. Our flight was delayed 3 hours yesterday. We had a 4 1/2 hour delay to begin with. They told is plane had landed and they were planning to take off at 7:06. We were all standing at gate, sign changed to Departed, then they changed sign to frontier and changed sign to Frontier and listed a different flight. A family with a child about 18 months tried to soothe the child but she cried all the way home. There were also people traveling with dogs. They were pretty well behaved, but they were not service dogs-why people let their kids pet them is beyond me. A young lab puppy barked at a small child a scared him. To sure if he snapped at child or not. But if I ever travel with children or animals I want to use industry leaders in “on-time” departures. We landed at 9:56, wifi was restored and I turned my phone on to a message from DD at 9:54 that she was “leaving”. By the time we walked thru airport to “departures” area DD was there. She ran us home, then we started car and went to Grandmas to get dogs. DS had sent text at 6:30 that he was eating dinner and then was going to walk the dogs. I went to bed at midnight only to have C bark at DH to get up. I think he wanted DH to play “catch”. Put dogs outside for a few minutes, went back to bed and then M got me up. I knew this meant he wanted to walk. I think he just wanted to check out his territory, and re-mark it. I really do think DS had walked them earlier. DD told me she was watching our flight b/c she was afraid it was going to get diverted to Chicago. We did have a bit of turbulence. I am going to walk my dogs and go to work. Have a great day!

I have always been quick to jump emotionally into other people's problems. It has taken me many years to learn to sit back and mind my own business. My DH told me years ago that there are things that happen to me and things that happen to others around me. I needed to learn the difference for my own well being. Most of the memes posted on FB aren't all that inspirational to me but there was one that's supposedly an old Polish proverb: "Not my circus, not my monkeys" that I use all the time. I took on too many of the consequences of my first husband's financial irresponsibilities, bailing him out with money I'd saved. Less than a year after we'd met I took out a car loan so he could buy a new Camaro- all he had was the proceeds from selling his old one (about 20% of the cost) and his credit was abysmal. He never paid a dime on that loan (not that he'd promised to). The much wiser Me would just say, "Too bad- guess you'll have to drive your current car till your credit improves".

Travel is not advised because of icy roads here. I am guessing those 2 hour delays will turn in to no school. The district where I live has more kids who live on gravel roads than paved roads.

I don't fly to Europe or South America so I know nothing about those places. My last trip to London was in 2009. No intention of going back. I don't stay at fancy hotels. Since most of my travel is in the US and Canada, I will stay with booking direct at the airline or hotel website. I won't stay at a Super 8 style hotel. I try to stay only at Hilton brands. The level of service at the hotels has not returned to pre-Covid service. The town where I do my genealogy research only has truck driver and construction worker dumps and an over priced Marriott. I stay at the Marriott. My other option is driving an hour to a Hilton property. That defeats the purpose. I am only flying to Toronto because I had an unused flight credit from a Covid cancellation. It had to be rebooked by 12-31. If Covid seems out of control at the time, I will cancel and drive. It's already paid for and it's actually more comfortable for me to drive. I am a bit concerned about the shuttle from the fly and park airport at O'Hare. DN1 tells me I will have to clear Customs in Toronto. I will clear US Customs in Toronto when I return. I am not aware of shuttles between gates at either of those airports, but it's been a long time since I have flown. We each do what is comfortable for us. I really do not want to fly since the mask rules and testing rules are gone. When we fly overseas, I refuse to book us into a Hilton, Hyatt, etc. and frequently the ‘fancy’ places are cheaper than the US branded hotels. You also get more of the local atmosphere. In my experience, the shuttles are nothing to be concerned about. We have used them on short trips out of Seattle from the off site parking. They’re pretty regular. If you need help between gates, book wheelchair assistance when you book your flight. it will either b3 a wheelchair runner or an electric cart. Not sure about Toronto, but at O’Hare, the international terminal is separate from the rest of the airport and we got bussed there. It was kind of a pain in the ass to get there from a domestic flight. However, Toronto isn’t always considered international, so there’s that.

These days, I try to go non stop if possible. Normally I try to get us on Delta as it seems that we have had fewest problems flying them of any domestic airline. One of the few things I dislike about the KC area (in addition to snow) is that we don't have a lot of nonstops out of my home airport, MCI. They're opening a new, tarted-up version in March so we'll see if that changes anything. I've never flown Frontier or Spirit- sure, I can suck it up for a short flight with a narrow seat and no amenities, but they seemed to have the worst record when things went wrong, until Southwest's recent meltdown. Because I'm retired and have infinite vacation days I schedule long layovers. If I'm flying Business I get lounge access. If not, sometimes I buy a day pass and sometimes I just explore the airport. My flight home from Quito will be an endurance test- leave Quito at 1 AM, arrive Houston around 6 AM, 6 hours in Houston and then home, landing around 2:30 PM. It sounds like Priceline has opened up some other options based on what CG posted. Early on it truly was the Wild West- you could choose your price and then find that you had 3 stops and ridiculously short connection times. What the airlines consider a "legal" connection time and what I consider reasonable are two different things. Not sure about Toronto, but at O’Hare, the international terminal is separate from the rest of the airport and we got bussed there. It was kind of a pain in the ass to get there from a domestic flight. However, Toronto isn’t always considered international, so there’s that. I've always used a tram at ORD between Domestic and International. Maybe the tram was out of service when you went through? Still a PITA since you have to go through the TSA process again.

Still a PITA since you have to go through the TSA process again. The distance was too far for a tram, I want to say we were on that bus for a good 20 min. Granted, we were flying into ORD on Delta and out on Emirates (we saved $$$$$ flying out of ORD rather than SEA, which was more than 4x what our other flight cost). I am particularly fortunate that I have fairly easy access to 2 airports where I can get a direct flight, but unfortunately direct flights can cost more. Last spring when I booked our flights for the river cruise, a direct flight from SEA to AMS was $2000 more than with a connection in MSP. We connected. OTOH, our direct flight from SEA to FLL for this cruise was the same price. I wanted direct, and probably would have paid more for a direct flight due to weather issues, luggage issues and the fact that the stakes were much higher for this trip.

I am convinced humans were not meant to work in January. We are supposed to hibernate and wait for spring like bears.
I was nice and cozy under my three afghan blankets but NO I had to get up to work.

Andi's link went to the right shirt for me. But I had it set to open in the app. Not sure if that would impact it.
I second hibernation in January!

Back in the office for the first time in 2 weeks. I did miss my comfy chair. At home I just have a wooden chair with a cushion tossed on it for my butt. eta: I also missed coffee. Work provides free good stuff with flavored creams. I have made coffee at home like twice in my entire life.

I liked being in neighborhoods not too far from the Tube in London. That has put me in a few dumps and many very tiny rooms. We did stay too far out in Liverpool when we had our friends meetup. We stayed in St. Helen's. There is nothing out there and it's a 30 minute train ride in to Lime Street. There are not very many trains per day. We often shared a taxi. The hotel was also a taxi ride from the train station. The rooms didn't have clocks so we got a wake up knock. We still laugh about that. It's been since 2009 since I've traveled to Europe or the UK. I now always book a wheelchair at the airport. I know where the international terminal at O'Hare is from my previous flying. With United, US customs is cleared in Toronto and they land at a gate in the United terminals. Same thing in Denver. That was sister's experience with Delta in Minneapolis. DN1 said arriving from the US in Toronto, you do have to clear Canadian Customs the way it used to be at Chicago. He said the Air Canada flights (code share with the US) also have US residents clear customs in Toronto.

Since American left Dubuque, I have to either drive to Madison or Cedar Rapids to get a somewhat major airline. I will no longer fly Frontier from those two places and they are the only direct flight to Denver. That used to be my go to destination.
American only flew to O'Hare. The new airline is a no name, no frills airline that flies to the airport near Orlando that Allegiant uses. One flight with Allegiant was one too many.
Now that American is not an option, I will be driving to O'Hare for this trip where so I have a direct flight to Toronto.
I've never been happy with connection times, especially on international trips. That means I used to go over all the options so I thought I would have enough time. 20 or 30 minutes is not a chance I am willing to take. Everything has to be perfect and I don't think they hold planes any more.
One time coming back from London, because of having to clear security again, I was the last person on my flight to Denver.

I've become an expert at using Flight Aware, though, to see where the plane is coming from. I was using that yesterday - can you use it when you are booking the flight? DD had told me in the am that the crew had a delay for rest - and that they had timed out the night before and were starting the morning with a delay and to expect it to gel longer as the day progressed. And she knew it was going to Honduras (I assume from flight aware, she said she googled it) and would have to be cleaned and change terminals due to the international flight. I don't think DH was happy with the Spirit flight, so we won't intentionally fly Spirit again, but he does want to go back to the city we were in. He is also interested in buying property there, but IDK. We really don't have retirement money to invest in "risky" investments. Idk what the threat of Hurricanes is in that area or the threat of Violence. There was a minor military presence on the beach. It was maybe 3-4 guys under a big open tent. The town was very peaceful. Other Americans said it was very safe and never any problems there. DH's friend is interested in buying property there - but he has a lot of "investments" and a lot more money, so he has a higher risk tolerance than we do. He also has more $$ to travel back and forth.

Very stressed Jerseyguy still in ER waiting for hospital room Water acting up so plumber coming today sometime.
Transferred $6000 from savings at an online bank and deposited to my checking. Today the $6000 withdrawn from my checking for insufficient funds. Called the online bank and should have transferred from savings to online checking account first. Ok did that so $6000 check will be sent to me again and I can deposit .
Jerseyguy thought he closed an account by withdrawing all the $ and transferring to another bank account. But he needed to officially close account . So got a statement of fee for $12 . Called the bank I can’t do anything need to have Jerseyguy call in. Yeah sure , took me almost 15 minutes on phone going from one customer service option to another to get to speak to an actual person. F … that for now
Then called Jerseyguy hematologist re appointment next Monday for bone marrow biopsy. Can he have it done at hospital he’s at now? He’ll be off blood thinner for drawing fluid from lung. Why didn’t hematologist tell us he should be off blood thinner for biopsy?? No response from hematologist yet
Maybe I’ll watch a movie with a glass of wine even if it’s not yet noon

It's crazy how stuff like that can happen. One of my cousins died from cardiac arrest. He was 22 and otherwise healthy. He dropped dead while taking a shower and his roommate found him when he had come back from visiting his parents for the weekend. It may have had nothing to do with the hit at all. Every year I hear about some young non-famous person suddenly keeling over and it's determined later there was an underlying heart issue. It may be he was just lucky enough to have it happen at a game with a hoard of paramedics right there to revive him. Had he been alone in his hotel room later that night he'd have been a goner for sure.
One of the few things that makes me nervous about living alone! I can handle most things that come up, but heart suddenly stops and renders you immediately unconscious? Yeah, no. Dead.
They are speculating the hit at exactly the right millisecond in the heartbeat cycle is what stopped his heart. Baseball and hockey players are prone to it, from hits to the chest by the ball/puck. I couldn't figure out why they had him on a breathing tube. Today they said CPR had damaged his lungs. Still day-to-day.

I have only used Flight Aware the day of my flight. I'm wondering if you get more information by being an airline employee? I think there's also a paid version maybe? My flight home last June was delayed because the crew didn't get in early enough the night before and they were waiting to login. Flight Aware just told me it was delayed. When I was at the airport they announced the cause.

F … that for now Then called Jerseyguy hematologist re appointment next Monday for bone marrow biopsy. Can he have it done at hospital he’s at now? He’ll be off blood thinner for drawing fluid from lung. Why didn’t hematologist tell us he should be off blood thinner for biopsy?? No response from hematologist yet Maybe I’ll watch a movie with a glass of wine even if it’s not yet noon When you're ready, just call and pretend to be him. Sorry you guys are having rough go of it. Don't be afraid to ask friends/family for support.

Between yesterday and today, we've gotten 10 inches of new snow. And, we'll probably get a couple more before the day is over. Winter started early this year, and I am so done with it. I second the vote that humans should be able to hibernate in the Winter.

I got my sweet Smokey's nails trimmed last night, no big fuss. A little hard to get the dew claws but he cooperated.
Then today I decided to tackle Tigger. Usually I'm good to get part of a paw. Today, he squirmed and hissed at me twice, but no scratching, biting, or anything and I got both paws done!! Wow, that's a first. He was such a good boy, I gave them treats. Hope to train him like that. His claws were getting so long they were catching on everything.
They keep running downstairs when hubs goes up and down. I saw him drawing out his wall placements and Smoke was trying to help. Kept grabbing his pencil, moving his ruler, and just generally being a pest. I hear hubs down there, no, Smoke, no. Then on he goes, he tolerates these furry babies more than I thought he would. But he does realize he is playing.
I'm ready to go back down and check for small pieces of fabric to donate. Items I can't use to make anything out of. Hoping I can clear a cabinet. I have a nice bedroom storage cabinet upstairs filled with paper, tape, all kinds of supplies. I'm going to see if I can find someplace else to put that stuff and once more have all my sheets together so I can find things. I sure need a linen closet here like I had in Texas. That will really help. My sheets are in that room, a cedar chest, a bureau and storage boxes, not a good way to find them.
Ok, back to doing something constructive, after I reheat my coffee.

Ozempic has really smoothed out my hypoglycemia, it doesn't say it will, says it can cause low blood sugar?? I have told them it's helped that. I used to have a terrible time with it and had to carry glucose tablets, rarely have I used one anymore.
So, it must be helping me too. The insurance I changed from at year end, had already sent me 3 months' worth, the last week of the year, I received the shipment today. I only expected a months' worth. I have almost 6 months now?? I have not heard of any shortages around here for it.
