It was an adventure going out to the barn this morning. Everything is encased in ice and the driveway getting there is a skating rink. I really need to get new Yak Trax for my boots. My old ones broke last year and it's precarious going without them.

I got quotes from Pella and Anderson to replace 5 Anderson windows where the seal had broke. I ended up going with Pella. I could get what I wanted because the cost was prohibitive. I did use their installer for the guarantee. I've been told Pella is about a year behind from estimate to installation. I was also told prices have increased substantially since I had mine done. Thanks- both good things to know. I do have some Anderson windows and so far so good. I'll have to check guarantees carefully. And if the wait list is a year long I'll just stash the $$ in a CD for now and plan to do both jobs in 2024.

Getting fired by your doctor, in this case, is a good thing. Congrats!

We have Pella, I don't like them. The inside is wood, outside vinyl, and I have a bunch of mildewed places that it won't clean off. I have sanded and restained and now it's bad. I can see a few of these being replaced in the near future.
We had Anderson, very good. And in Texas not sure the brand but carried by Home Depot, vinyl in and out, great windows. I lost a seal in one and it was guaranteed as was the second homeowner.
Hubs decided to start on the basement. We are measuring for where the bathroom will go. He said for now will just build the walls. Hope he does the other end too. We ended up discussing that finishing the basement is worthwhile whether we stay or go. Like he said could be sold as a 5 bedroom with 3 baths, got to increase the value. It will have 2 large dedicated storage areas and 3 big rooms, one with a closet, so nice. And he can't start on the house anyway as it's raining. It says 62 but its cold with the rain.
Got the lady her car, she has a job interview at 2PM and another today too I think. She kept thanking me, but that just makes me embarrassed. She said noone had ever bought her anything like that. The car sure looks good, we sure hope it is. She watched her fluids and everything on her old ones. She said I haven't had a car since August, so she was thrilled.
Like hubs said, we haven't lost anything, she has rented 8 years, so $48k. This won't kill us. She is looking for a place to move but needs to work a month or so first. We didn't discuss that, will deal with it when necessary.
Hubs is talking me into getting rid of clothes. I'm not the matching throw rugs, kitchen and bathroom decor. I have my other vase of flowers to put back, but I still haven't found my towels. I have a couple more places to look. I packed up one bag of MIL's clothing and going to pack some more of mine. I found some pillow cases, but some have sheets in them that match so are ok. I used to have a linen closet to put it all in but don't now, so they are strung all over.
Need to go back down, I hear hubs hammering.

I'm not a fan of plastic for many things but it's sure more moisture-resistant than wood and it's cheaper.

I was watching live and it did to me to. I didn't see anything spectacular about it, but as soon as he went down I knew it was bad. He was on the ground and not loaded into the ambulance way too long. There have been many a player who has had an unknown/undiagnosed medical issue that shows itself on the field though. I pray he is alright. I watched it later on, and I've seen way more violent hits that players bounce back up from. reports from overnight are that he suffered cardiac arrest on the field and was revived before being loaded into the ambulance. such a freak accident, and I hope he will be okay. It's crazy how stuff like that can happen. One of my cousins died from cardiac arrest. He was 22 and otherwise healthy. He dropped dead while taking a shower and his roommate found him when he had come back from visiting his parents for the weekend.

it may not have, but it was still pretty traumatic for everyone else that was there. players, staff, fans. I really hope they all seek out counseling if they need it. someone who's otherwise quite healthy, all of a sudden on the ground having CPR performed on them after a routine act they all (well, the players, at least) execute regularly....that's jarring to say the least.

Had a productive meeting with my boos. I feel slightly better about work than I did before, but I am still going to update my resume. I keep it on several sites that headhunters use. It is at least time to see what else may be out there.

so, back to work on a rainy day means the pups are pouting at me as I stare at my laptop screen all day. tv is on for background noise, HLNs "How It Really Happened" today, and after half listening to 2h of coverage of the murder of JonBenet Ramsay, I'm now listening to JFK Jr's final flight. I vividly remember that search for the plane and its occupants, and it's sobering to me that I'm now older than he was when he died. he was American royalty to me as a kid, growing up in MA.

I seem to be just south of the ice. We are getting rain.
Brought the trash bin back to the garage and then it poured.

Clueless as to what windows we have in the house, but after nearly 30 years they are still in excellent shape. The house was owned by the builder, who put in some fantastic things, and not so fantastic.

My windows are Anderson all vinyl. 24 years old and definitely don't need replacing (despite what the Pella dealers try to tell me).

Got the first coat of paint on half of DS's room. There are 4 teenagers in DD1's room. It's a good thing we live in a small house and they are loud.

\ I made an appointment on-line with Pella to get a quote on window replacements and will be making another with the second major name (Anderson). I've got 6 windows facing the lake, two rows of 3, bottom row maybe 7', top row maybe 2.5'. I'm dreading that estimate even if I do the cheap thing and replace them with 3 taller windows. I'm also asking them to quote two windows in the dining room that are the only others I haven't replaced (house built in 1995, we bought in 2015). I'm definitely not doing both but if the price of the 3 facing the lake is too hefty I'll do the dining room and save up for the other 3. If all that's wrong is broken seals, they can usually replace the sash rather than replace all the windows.

I keep seeing FB posts that it's because he was vaccinated.

The guy came this afternoon and put the new monitoring sensor on the generator. We dropped clothes at the cleaners, ran by Home Depot for bulbs for the outdoor lights, a pot for the amaryllis bulb I was gifted, and some Purple Power concentrate and a spray bottle. Then stopped at the garden center for more bird seed and peanuts.
I feel like crap with the sinus thingy but it won't kill me. Supper is an easy fix, Italian season turkey patties and some pasta tossed with a bit of pesto.

We have a local brand of vinyl windows and they have been excellent although the installers were idiots with zero experience. For our huge sliding door overlooking the back deck and yard, we invested in Anderson with wood interior and vinyl exterior. Their installers were crap too. We had our own painter stain and varnish the wood interior. The slider cost $7,000 which was pricey but it's a huge part of that living space and we adore it.

It may have had nothing to do with the hit at all. Every year I hear about some young non-famous person suddenly keeling over and it's determined later there was an underlying heart issue. I agree. My uncle was a glorious physical specimen and a marathon runner (he was in the Boston Marathon at least once). He dropped dead of a heart attack at age 42 in his boss' office on a Monday morning. At his last physical his doc had said, "I wish I were in as good a shape as you are". That was 1979, so I know that now we have many more advanced and non-invasive ways to check heart function (I've been subjected to a few of them) - but I'm not sure if they'd have bothered doing them for a marathon runner in his early 40s who was so finicky about eating healthy he wouldn't allow white bread in the house. Savor every day as a gift.

On the hunt for a new pediatrician office. I called the nurse’s line to basically ask if testing positive for Covid is a symptom even if you have no other symptoms. The last symptom (fever) was 9 days ago. Their answer: What does the school say? Follow their guidelines…. 🤯🤯 I hadn’t been happy for a while but I liked the NP that we saw. Received word today that the NP is moving out of state.
Very frustrating!

We are on a layover to catch our 2nd flight of the day (Cancun, MX to Orlando, FL. Orlando to Milwaukee). Our 5:00 flight is delayed until 6:10. DD looked and said plane is coming from Honduras and since it is international, plane will need to be cleaned. She waid it wont’t take off until about 6:30. 🙏 it takes off, otherwise we will spend the night and prolly fly home with Delta. DH booked expedia, he thought since it was American going to Mexico, we would be returning via American.
We had a good time we were in Puerto Moreles MX about 30 minutes from Cancun. Beach was walking distance. Small town, lots of restaurants and shops. New Years eve we went to Playa del Carmen. A friend was renting a condo there. We met up at his condo, had dinner, then we went to a nightclub. They closed down about 3:00, it was 3:30 before we got out of there, and it was just a mass of people-worse than leaving Disney or Universal Studios. We lost our friends we were with, but A always stays in same condo, so M had been there before and he got there a bit after we did. There were 11 or 12 in our group. DH got very Drunk on Friday night, and did not drink much the rest of the trip. Neither of us drank on NY eve but we did have a good time. We were about an hour from our hotel, and I did not want to be that far from our hotel if something did not agree with me. Yesterday we got up about 5:30 and took a tour bus and Ferry to and Island called Holbox. Beautiful beaches and not as crowded as other beaches we have been to. You can actually stay on that island, but IDK how expensive it is. We did not get back to our hotel until about 9. Our flight out of Mexico was at 10:30 this morning. I knew this before, but thankful my DH does not have a drinking problem like some of his friends. His friend wanted to get “food” last night when we got back. The town we were staying in pretty much rolls up the boardwalks and closes down at 10–10:30 pm.
Hopefully we will get home tonight so we can collect our Dogs and get back on a regular schedule.

I just got an e-mail from DDIL with the dates of the girls' ballet showcase in June. It's not really a recital- they wear simple leotards with a frilly skirt and there's a lot of narration about what each age group is learning. I was really impressed with the last one- the parents don't get hit with mega-bills for elaborate costumes and I like their approach, which is serious ballet but tailored to each age group. Anyway, she thought it might be too close to my South America trip in May and I was even considering flying in and out of DSM (bet they'd give me a free ride to and from the airport ) but I'll be home the week before. Good thing- I'd discovered there were no nonstops between DSM and Miami, which is where I need to be for most South American flights. So, I can buy some plane tickets and that will make me happy.

No regrets at all. None whatsoever.
