Thanks. We're getting through the first stage, unfortunately, the therapy for getting his feet back will be another year at least. I feel horrible because it's because he's obese. Last time it happened I swore I would get him trimmed down, but 18 months later he's still a tubbie despite barely feeding him anything and sending him to the Amish for 2 months of hard labor. The dude just looks at food and gains weight. It doesn't help that he can get no grass so spends most of his days in a small dirt paddock. If he had several acres to run on he'd get more exercise, but he can't have grass. Like any. I'm going to look into getting him a muzzle.
Just thinking of you and your sweet horse. 🐴 Andi, I hope you enjoy your day with T1 (did I get that right?). I hope the move is finally done. I helped DD1 move last fall and DD2 move the year before. I hope they remember that, when it comes time for me to move. Getting up 3 flights of stairs is getting to be a challenge. I might start getting grocery delivery. Especially for my main/bigger orders. But I always think I'm going to just pick up a few things. 😁

We have a skunk again. Saw it in the daylight up here the other day. I came home today and wow, it had to have been in the garage. We crack the door so the cats can get in, in case a stray dog is after them. They can get on the top of the tall cabinets and be safe. I pulled in the garage the smell was awful, I opened some windows. Went in the house and wow, bad, no windows were open. Smoke was huddled by the back door, I smelled him to make sure he was ok, but did he want in the house. He refused to go back out, don't blame him, Tigger was in here already. They have been on the back porch but not for long. Hubs caught one some time ago and put a tarp around the cage so he didn't get sprayed nor the trailer. I think this one needs to go also since it's around the house too much. It's beautiful here today, 79, low humidity and just so nice. We got some rain last night. I noted where some farmers are starting to pick corn and saw some beans ready. I imagine the rain raised the moisture content too high, so likely will put off a day or two. I've been seeing a lot of combines and pickers going down the roads. We will have to close the windows for a while, to keep all the dust out once they start. They dug the potatoes earlier, saw the big machines leaving some time ago. They take them to a washing facility before they haul them out. Finally got the odor out of here. They've been harvesting beans in the fields on 3 sides of our house. So fun listening to tractors at 3am! Between several days of harvesting, and then a few more tilling (yeah, DH had DS4 rescue the laundry from the dust clouds yesterday), and the road crew paving the shoulders, we just have had lots of noisy mighty machines around this week to dodge on our road. But we now have actual, paved, shoulders! . Not just tiny bits of gravel and ruts (where the mail truck goes over to reach the mailboxes). They could be wider, and I'm hoping they stripe them before the snow flies, but it's a start. I'd really love a bike lane, someday...

I'm exhausted. Friday I had to drive up to dsis' home early to let the crew in, catch up at work from missing a day and a half, then babysat my nephews Friday night.
Saturday we met with the puppy and adopted her, then took devil dog to training where he (not surprisingly) failed his level 3 test. He was so, so good, but not off leash good which is what this required and on hot zone heeling he sniffed 1 toy too much. He got full points for everything else. I didn't expect him to pass, especially since my week derailed with dsis and we missed 3 days of practice. Puppy is adorable and getting settled.
But after that I had to run errands, then had my woo-party to go to. (Very fun!), then back to dsis house to section off the crawl space so she can bring the cats home today. Got home at 1am, showered, took the puppy out, passed out, but still had to do alarms and the puppy was up by 6am. So exhausted but happy.
I need to make another home depot run, clean, get groceries, maybe work? Then we will have a d&d session and "celebrate" ds dia-versary. 7 years to the day that he was dx with diabetes. Crazy.

MPL,
He is a beautiful horse and lucky to have you caring for him. I had a sheltie with Cushings disease and kept her on medication for it the last half of her life. She lived to be 14 1/2. I can't remember the name of the medicine now.

The real estate agent came by on Monday to take a look at the condo. He said it's in good condition and he doesn't see any problem selling it. The sale should net me something after all expenses. We decided to put it up for sale in December, while I'm in Uruguay. The idea is to close in March, if possible. So being able to show it in December will give him more time. Then I should get something from the sale of my car. I looked online, I should net a few thousands after satisfying the loan on it. I'm hoping I get a bonus at work. The old company used to pay the bonus in February March, but I have no idea if the new company does the same. I guess since I would have worked for all of 2022 I would qualify for the bonus. It would be a good chunk of change for me in my current situation. All in, I expect to net about $20,000 between the sale of the condo, the car, and the bonus. With some money saved from paychecks and the last paycheck, I should be able to net $25,000 when I leave. Of course I'll have expenses, such as my moving, Michi's transportation, etc. My daughter has moved twice with her cat, once from US to Germany and then from Germany to Hawaii (with overnight stop in Seattle). She was able to do that with cat in carry on bag under the seat. Maybe only a small fee. She also had a 45 lb dog that had to be in a crate. She did not use pet transport company, which is very expensive. You just have to make sure your pet has the correct certifications for the place you are going to.

I have flown cross country with Gizzy as carry on luggage a few times. Despite the fact he was a lousy car traveler, he was quite excellent on flights. As I remember, domestically it cost me $125 to travel with me each direction. You do have to take the animal out of the carrier to go through security. Gizzy had never worn a collar or harness, but if I was doing it again, I’d have a cat in a well fitted harness and leashed as well. It was just a little unnerving to walk through the metal detectors with him in my arms. Of course, I set off the detectors, and Gizzy got wanded and patted down too! I had to have the TSA retrieve his carrier (soft sided, needs to fit under seat) and place him in his carrier before they could wand me down too. I have no idea how it is done internationally. I might be inclined to stage it…..for instance NY to Miami, stay overnight. Miami to Montevideo.

Can horses get diabetes like people do? I know dogs can be diabetic. I could never lose weight no matter what I ate or did not eat or how much I exercised. I developed diabetes complications and the docs put me on meds to get it under control. Those meds helped me lose the weight. Then they lowered and took me off the meds. Life is better now. Anyhow, I can certainly relate to not being able to lose weight no matter how hard I try. I don't see why not.

Today I think I'm going to make a cream cheese poblano dip I saw a recipe for on tik tock. It looked pretty good. I think we have one more Walmart run today and T1 should be all set up in her new apartment. She better get ready early because the Chiefs play today and I want to watch it. Please share the recipe. I picked up some beautiful poblanos at the farmers market today.

I've got football on for background noise as I keep crossing things off the deep clean list. my sister picked turkey piccata for my dinner later, I still hadn't decided between that or Lombardy, and have everything to make either.
I turned the heat on last night, and I'm not happy about that. it got turned off before I even got out of bed this am (thank you, Nest app!) and the windows are all open today. I'm not ready for cold yet. 😔

He gets scared with being confined and being in motion, and he loses control. We would both be denied travel if I try to bring him with me. He has to travel cargo. I'm still waiting for the relocation company to contact me about a quote. They sent me an email today that they are still working on it and would contact me soon. If it's too expensive, I'll have to DIY, with the help of my vet. But he definitely has to travel cargo.

Friday Mrs. T brought over some samples of the dog food Mr. T feeds his dogs, for Mister to try with Newbie. A while back, Mr. T had Mister taste some kind of liquor that Mr. T likes. Mister liked it and I think he bought a bottle from Mr. T. Apparently they know or have access to a distributor or something where they can get it because it’s not easily found in stores around here. Earlier last week they came over to chit chat and see the puppy and Mrs. T mentioned she’d she’d ordered a case of it. I didn’t think much about it when she said it. When she gave me the dog food samples Friday, she also gave me a bottle of the liquor. I asked how much we owed her and she said nothing, it was a gift for being a good neighbor. I love my neighbors! They have twin toddlers and when Mr. and Mrs. T were over chatting, she asked if she could take Boy to see the twins. I said sure. They are afraid of dogs, even the ones they live with. When Mrs. T came back she said one of the twins said “Noooo, no puppy! Take it baaaack!” So they are serious about not liking dogs, even puppies lol.

Mom said today she'll help with the cost of moving Michi. Once I get a quote from the moving company I'll make a decision whether I will have them do it, or I will have to do it myself.
My friend reached out to me today. Said she's sorry, knows she came across like she was angry. She said she's not. She understands my situation has changed. But the ticket cannot be cancelled. Only changed for $400. I told her let's cut the crap and let's just plan your visit and have a good time. She said she understands I'm trying to save, and this visit complicates things. Well, yes it does but the company and going out will do me a world of good. So let's just do it.
She offered to help with grocery and gas, I said no need. My situation is not that dire. She has an uncle who lives in New Jersey and she's going to ask him if he can pick her up at the airport. I said, well, that would be a life saver. If you can sort out airport transportation, I'll take care of the rest. So hopefully she'll take care of that. She bought the ticket in 12 installments of $65, so I plan to continue to pay monthly. Once the condo sells, and the car sells, I will liquidate whatever balance is left. Paying it little by little while I'm still working is not that bad.

Did a load of laundry and cleaned the master shower stall. Breakfast was waffles, which I had not made in forever. I am trying to nail down my racing schedule through February. Lots to pick from, which makes it harder.

It's because it suppresses breathing. But if he can take anti anxiety medication, maybe he can come onboard with me. That would save me thousands. It's a good idea. Fortunately I have time and I will explore all options. Talking to the vet about anti anxiety medication is a great one. It would only cost about $300 for him to travel with me, versus flying as cargo. What I don't understand is how does that work. It would be a 9 hour flight to Brazil, then a stopover, and another 3 hours flight to Uruguay. How does he eat and how does he go to the bathroom? From what I read online you cannot take him out of the carrier while on the plane.

This is no longer recommended for travel, especially in an animal if flying cargo. They do not always go out like a light, but are horribly unsteady. Because they cannot adjust their balance while drugged, when the carrier is moved they are more likely to be injured. I’ll never do it again, I’d rather have a pissed off howling cat than a dead one

I've been digging through my closet, trying to figure out what I might wear to my relative's funeral. I came across the black dress I wore to my Mom's funeral (Jones New York), and was pleasantly surprised to find it fits, and I look good in it. With my weight gain, and loss, I wasn't sure if a change in my proportions might mess things up, but it's still ok. We'll be outside, so if we get one of our nasty-cold windy Fall days, I still might wear black slacks & a black sweater, but now at least I have options.

But that problem is that Michi howls really loud, no way he'll be admitted in the cabin like that. I don't know what to do, how to handle this. I'm still going to wait for the transport company to get back to me. Once I have that info, I may decide using them is not doable. Then I will contact the airline and my vet to see what can and cannot be done.

From what I read online you cannot take him out of the carrier while on the plane. What I did when I flew with Gizzy was for my afternoon flight I pulled up his food the night before my flight. The morning of, I pulled up his water. Gizzy never soiled his carrier, but what I did was I put down multiple layers of blue under pad (puppy pee pads) at the bottom of his carrier so I could remove the top one if soiled and throw it away. After the first flight, I discovered he hated soiling his carrier and was a champion holder. He was easily ok 15 hours. No, you cannot take him out of the carrier…..or you are not supposed to. I unzipped it and petted him to reassure him. My flights were Lexington-Detroit-Seattle. The last time I flew with him,was 15 hours. We had a morning flight (I pulled food in the afternoon, water before I went to bed). We got to Seattle around 3 pm and went immediately to the hospital. TD stuck with me to find out if I was going to be admitted and didn’t leave until 6-7 pm. It was a 2 hour drive home. TD had litter tray and food waiting for Gizzy before he left to get me.

The Walk of the Penguin MichWow! That's a long flight with a cat. How did you get him to remain quiet during the flight if you didn't give him anti-anxiety medication? Michi howls like someone is murdering him when traveling by car. I can't imagine what it would be like for him on a plane. There has to be something he can take in order to make the flight bearable for him, for me, and for everyone around. I would love to bring him along with me instead of shipping him cargo. Even if I decide to bring him with me, I may ask the relocation company to take care of all the paperwork. I don't want to have travel delayed because we don't have the right documentation. There are many options and I'm sure I'll find the right one. Good that I have time to research and decide.

I was down yesterday. Went to the park for a walk, and then grocery shopping. But after that I vegged in front of the computer the rest of the day. Today is a repeat of yesterday, except my mood is better, and I didn't have to go grocery shopping. But I went to the park for a walk. It helps my mental, physical and emotional health to walk in nature. Now I'm vegging in front of the computer. But I got a couple of things done today. I changed my Jury Duty date from October 2022 to August 2023 . Of course, before that date comes, I will be sending them information that I'm moving out. I'm now trying to renew my driver's license online. Looks like it's very easy. I just have to get out of my chair and get my current license to see the number and apply. Should get that done in a few. Then I'm going to purchase the CPE credits to renew my CPA license. I'm very confident having that license will give me a step up in my job search in Uruguay. Even if it doesn't, I gave heart and soul and ton of effort to obtain it, and I'm keeping it for life. I don't think I'll actually start doing the credits today, but have it all set up so I can do a class online here and there during the week, and go at it full on during the weekends until my friend comes. Also, I want to see if I can reimburse myself from some health expenses from my HSA to my checking account. Up until now, I was paying from checking for medical care, and let the HSA grow untouched. But apparently it's very difficult to use an HSA out of the country. So I'm going to take what I can. The rest will continue to grow, same as the 401K and the IRA, even though I won't be making any more contributions. I think after 65 I can take money from that account same as a retirement account.

Good neighbors truly make a house a home.

Ava I'm so glad you and your friend arrived at a better place-I know she means a lot to you. Yes, she does. And yes, I'm happy we sorted it out. We've been friends for 25 years and we've kept in touch even before Whattsapp and other technology. It would make me sad to let go of that friendship. Particularly now that we'll be living in the same city.

Next week will see progress on several fronts. Tomorrow we get our Covid boosters, Wednesday the man is finally coming to replace and repair the flagstone damaged during the sewer line work, and I might even get some stuff moved into the new trust depending on whether I get the paperwork I need.

Mister bought himself a new MacBook yesterday. He’s been wanting a new one for over a year now, since whenever Apple started using their own chips instead of Intel’s. I’m not a tech geek, so I hope I got the stuff about the chips right lol. But he’s been talking about wanting one for a long time.
I knew he finally bought it yesterday, but I didn’t say anything. Today he had it on the kitchen table and I asked what’s that?! Once it became clear that I knew it was a new one (he already has one that he bought about 6 years ago) he got all excited and asked me to at least hold it in my hand. I refused, because it bothers me that he felt like he needed to hide it that he finally bought it.
Mister takes good care of his children, me, and our home, and I’ve told him many times that I don’t care about him buying stuff he really wants, including a new MacBook. Idk why he thinks he’s supposed to take care of everybody else, and it’s “bad” to buy himself something he really wants when he has the funds to do so. Wherever those thoughts come from, it’s not from me.
I know that’s not the worst problem to have with a partner, but it still makes me feel some kind of way that he really seems to think I’ll get upset if he spends money on something he wants. He has a very strong work ethic, and I believe that the whole point of going to work everyday…. besides being a responsible adult, is to be able to buy and/or do things you want sometimes.
I’m glad he finally bought it since he’s been talking about it so much, for so long.
