My cousin outside of Duluth gets black bears in his yard all the time. This pic is a screenshot from a video of his youngest saying hi to the "puppy" on the deck. I am absolutely, totally, irrationally terrified of bears. I don't flinch at a snake or insect or spider, but I won't even look at bears at the zoo. I'm the opposite. I'd be going Oh look, Winnie the Pooh if I saw a bear. A snake? I'd be running for the hills screaming Kill it! Kill it!

I don't love snakes or lizards. I'll definitely jump if I'm surprised by one and there are a lot of little snakes in my yard this year.
Bears, moose, elk, mtn lions I have a healthy respect for. I'd like to see them from a distance, but don't need to be up close and personal.

They serve a very useful purpose in the food chain, keeping vermin down. You don't want to be overrun with mice and rats.

Dh's last message to me was - saw a bear in camp too close for comfort. Then listed out all his precautions and he's a responsible camper/hiker and an overthinker. A bear is very unlikely to be interested in his campsite, and dh has deterrents as well. So I'm sure he's fine, but he hasn't responded since. Insert angry face. If roles were reversed he would have sent the park rangers in by now. What kind of bear? It makes a difference. Black bears are usually harmless to humans. Check this out. He's 2 inches away from her. www.usatoday.com/videos/news/have-you-seen/2022/08/02/black-bear-startles-woman-waiting-bus-british-columbia/10219291002/subscription site.

My doctor visit this morning….. I had an ultrasound, and I don’t have cysts in my ovaries. I do however have some small fibroids, and she asked if I’d ever been told that. I haven’t, even though I’ve had ultrasounds because of the cysts I use to get. She said they probably aren’t cause for concern. But the ultrasound also showed that the lining in my uterus was about twice what it should be, given that I am post menopausal. That IS cause for concern. So she did an endometrial biopsy. That was fun. NOT! The results should be back next week.
I know what biopsy means, so Imma pray on that, and I won’t be mad if some of y’all pray on it too.
She wants me to take progesterone for 10 days, to help thin the lining of my uterus (now that I think about it, where will it go if it thins, since I don’t have periods anymore?!) and to see if it helps me sleep. I go back in 3 months for another ultrasound.
I’ve taken progesterone before, when my cycle was ridiculously out of control. It didn’t help. But I’m going to try it again and see what happens.
I guess it’s a good thing I made the appointment to see if I had a cyst in my ovaries, since it exposed something else I have going on.
I still just really want to get some decent sleep though.

Apparently we have a cat. We’ve never seen it in person, it causes one of our cameras to record late at night. It enjoys lounging on the Jeep and the garbage bins, and sleeping in the driveway. It only comes around late at night. If not for the cameras, we wouldn’t know it visits us. When we first moved here, we used to see a pretty black and white cat, but we haven’t seen it in a very long time. The cat on the cameras is all black. I’m not afraid of cats.

Read this post and immediately thought of the image below. @pinkcshmere are you the author of the Dear Mr. Postman note? I don’t see an image Hmmm... it's a note that says the following: Dear Mr. Postman! Beholder of parcels, bringer of utility bills. I write to you on this day to ask a simple task of you. Living on the right side of my mailbox is a spider, seemingly holding my mail hostage. If you could remove him for me, either by relocation or brutal murder, I would be forever in your debt. Signed, Resident spider looks like this (drawing of spider)

Maybe 5 times in 3 years. Mister isn’t nearly as scary as I am but he doesn’t even like getting the mail, so he might get it once/week unless he’s seen on Informed Delivery that there’s a package or something potentially important in it.

AARRGGGGHHHH!
My BFF signed herself out the the hospital, against medical advice, despite having CRO in her bowels and a drop in her hemoglobin count. This is her idiot boyfriend's doing. I wouldn't have taken her home. Her daughter wouldn't have taken her home. Her sister wouldn't have taken her home. Her gigolo took her home.

It isn't. I don't have a subscription. It's USA Today. Try again. I clicked on the video again, and clicked on USA Today to read other articles. It works.

New Topic for parents of young women: What do you all do when an older man is oogling your daughter?
Junk punch? Tweak his ear and give him a good what for? I elected to get her out of his view.
DD is almost 15. Dude was at least 25. She wasn't in make up or anything to make her look older.

I put up with a lot of shit with my Mom, but if she had some young dude or even an old dude using her for her money or whatever, all hell would break loose. On his head. To the point that he would hate to see me coming. I would cause as many problems for him as I could, up to and including finding out if he could be charged with elder abuse. Children and senior citizens are my soft spots, because I feel like they are the most vulnerable. I HATE to hear of either being mistreated or abused. I really hate this for your friend.

I talked here about what happened with my neighbor and my daughter when it happened, but I don’t remember if it was when we were on MSN or after we moved here.
People asked on the boards why DD and I didn’t report it to the police or whatever. Well, even though he confessed to ME when I confronted him, that didn’t mean he would confess to someone in authority. So it would have basically been her word against his. And on the surface, he was a family man who had been married for years, and my daughter was a college dropout who’d just had a baby out of wedlock. Who would have been considered more credible in a courtroom?

All the d-bags have to do is say "she was coming on to me" and they walk.

My uncle has been feeding all the neighborhood animals so they're all over my grandma's backyard. Last night when I got home from the gym the prettiest grey cat was on the top of the fence. It ran when I got out of the car but we sat and looked at each other for a minute.

Yup. And worse when it's a young black woman. DD2 went through this also. Thankfully, I had a pit mix that was willing to sacrifice for her. And we watched her close and she had a white brother for help (so the cops would listen to him and not blame him off the bat like they did when our other son was he back up). Sad? VERY! Reality for some of us? Yes.

As a girl who developed early, I do what I wish my mom had done - confront the perv. We have to teach our girls that it is NOT acceptable. Seriously. I took a lot of physical abuse from even teenage boys because I was taught to not escalate the situation. Excuse the f*ck out of me, but I didn't start the situation. But you can be damn sure I'm going to end it now, teenage me not so much. DH always says I'm likely to get myself killed by confronting people, and I'm kind of ok with it.

I also developed early, too early to know how to handle this sort of situation. I remember distinctly feeling mortified with embarrassment. Why I should be embarrassed, I still don't know. But directly dealing with the ogler with certainty is the best for your DD.

Yup, we need to teach our young girls how to deal with inappropriate behavior from adult males. DD went through a class and learned how to break/dislocate arms if a guy tried to grab her. I would support her 100% if any guy claimed she was violent. If he got hurt, he earned it!
