I can't wrap my head around 65K for a car either. Wait until tariffs get slapped on top of that price tag.

Got curious about car prices. Found that DH could replace his truck with almost an identical 2025 one for the same $ he paid 6 years ago ($33,000 before trade in). My car, not some much. A new one is double ($42,000). Both are under still under 100,000 miles so hopefully not a worry for a very long time. Though DH keeps mentioning getting rid of his other, smaller truck and looking for one similar in size to his newest one.

Got the deposit put down on the cruise.
Now I have a list of things I need to get moving on.
We'll be out there for Gwen's birthday so she's really excited. She's already all over Tik tok looking for cruise videos.
DH and I have been amusing ourselves trying to name as many cruise disaster movies as we can. Apparently Speed 2 is set on a cruise ship. DH says it doesn't count I say it does too.

Those shots burn. I had a round of plantar fasciitis years ago. That's when my fashionable shoe days were really over. I did find some relief from rolling a frozen water bottle under my foot. I remember taking lots of OTC meds hoping it would get better. I found a podiatrist and he made me a pair of custom orthotics. I have never had an issue since. After my hip replacement a few years ago, I had a new set of orthotics made for my new and improved stride. If I go a few days without using the orthotics, I have pain in my back, hips and knees. I can't just flip flop through life anymore. I had two rounds of PF years ago, both cured with cortisone shots and inserts that the podiatrist just kind of slapped together in his office. I would like to be proactive and get some good inserts made to make sure it never happens again. I was thinking of going to the Good Feet Store to see what they can do. I ordered a pair of Brooks online at his recommendation. They are going back, my Rykas are much more comfortable and an arch support insole seems to be helping, so I ordered an extra set of those. They are going to try to order orthotics through insurance but it sounds like I have to pick those up at the next appointment. I’m not really convinced the cortisone shot is helping that much tbh, but the stretches seem like they are.

We have a local shoe store here that has a fancy computer pad you stand on to really measure your feet. Then they recommend shoes based on the scan results.
I dragged DH in 2023 on Black Friday after he put it off forever. Huge difference, his posture is better, he said his knees are better. His feet no longer bother him on long days of walking. Sometimes the dumb man is cheap about things he should not be. Other things he'll spend money on like a drunken sailor.
Now I know what to buy and look for sales to buy additional pairs. The Altras are almost $200 not on sale but they work for him. He also got a Brooks pair. I live and die in my Brooks Ghost but that's me.

The Good Feet Store has the computer pads you stand on. I think that is going to be my Christmas present to myself. Knock on wood my feet have been fine for years, but I remember quite vividly how incapacitating PF was and don't want to go back there. The price I paid for hiking in flip flops for years.

we had a place here, too - Marathon Sports. the chain still exists, but the location near me closed. I'd been an ASICS loyalist since college, until a few years back when all of that year's models came up way too high in the back, over my heel. I was chafing my heel and eventually drew blood. ugh. so I went down to Marathon and laced up a few different ones. the winners were a Brooks and a New Balance. the NB surprised me, since I'd always considered them too wide for my narrow foot. this particular model wasn't wide.....and it felt like I was walking on clouds! I bought the pair that day, and another of the exact same on Amazon for cheaper a couple weeks later. those lasted me awhile, and I wandered DSW looking for the update to do the same thing. well, the replacement is pretty much highlighter pink. fantastic. but, let me tell you, clouds. so I'm about to retire the 1st pair of the pink ones, the 2nd pair is ready to go in my closet.
happy to share a pic of the label if anyone is interested. I wear 8.5, N wherever possible.

today's been a little bit productive, I guess. I dropped off a couple returns at the UPS store, taking the pups with me just to get them out of the house a bit. more laundry is in progress, towels since the hamper was full. I'm mostly packed for tomorrow (toiletries I'll use in the am are still to be packed. I'm looking at this roller case and wondering if I should swap it for a duffle. it feels like the duffle is a bit more flexible in logistics. I'm actually wearing a coat this trip, since I'm going somewhere cold and we're walking around a bunch. so right there, my packing is completely different than a vacation trip. current project is scrolling LinkedIn for job postings. I made the necessary resume tweak to remove "present" from the place I just left. I'm also bringing this tablet with me for the weekend. I can hit LI in the mornings, when my travelmates are still snoozing. none of them are early risers.

My feet hurt terribly with what I assume is plantar fascitis when I'm not doing jiu jitsu. I think exercising while barefoot strengthens my feet which helps the pain. I didn't tie the 2 together until my foot pain came back during covid and then disappeared a few months back to the dojo.

So since my car is broken, I have to drive my dad's pickup. I hate driving that thing. My cars are bougie and this truck is a 17 yo base model with no extras. I feel like I'm Amish. Nah, Amish ladies don’t wear make-up. they can't even pluck their chin hair.

Good morning! Just catching up. Husband and I both have Honda Fits (2013 and 2018). I will cry a river of tears when the time comes to replace them since Honda no longer makes the Fit for North America. Those cars fit so much shit in them and get in tight parking spots. When the time comes for a new car in however many years (many many, please) I've pretty much settled on a Subaru Impreza hatchback. But I love my Fit! 😭 what about a honda HRV?

I did that in whatever was here when I bought the house, ~$300ish. and then a year later, the next issue that popped up was teh fatal blow. I ended up just buying a new unit.....except with all the supply chain issues during COVID, this unit that I bought in December and was promised in Feb.......finally arrived in May. that said, it's a Kitchen Aid, and I have zero complaints about it.

Catching up with you all again! Came home on Monday. Yesterday I spent the day cleaning the house. Dog hair everywhere of course! I moved my dog's new bed to clean the floor, and it has left grid marks on the vinyl plank floor! I had no idea this could happen! I wrote the manufacturer. They are "checking into it". In the meantime I'm trying everything I can think of to scrub it off the vinyl. It's better but I don't think it will totally come out. Dammit. weltz I hope you are doing well! I've been thinking of you! Mark me down as another person who hates buying cars. I would like to replace my 2008 RAV4 with a hybrid, probably a Toyota. One son has a hybrid Corolla, another son has a Prius. Both of them love their cars. I want AWD or 4WD. My RAV4 has 4WD. I don't use it very much, but boy howdy does it come in handy when I do need it.

I picked up my meals and dropped off 2 Amazon returns at UPS.
All of my Christmas shopping is complete. DN3's stepson's gift has been delivered.
I wish the gift for J would at least ship. They normally use Canada Post, but they are on strike. The website they sent me to says they will use other shippers while the strike is on. However it's been 2 weeks and it has not shipped. J said last week that he would like to receive a package. If this one ever gets shipped, he will.

Christmas shopping has.... not... started. But I have the following ideas:
DS: cash, Steam gift cards, some fashionable sneakers, Adidas/Nike gear DH: a power tool he asked for Mom: Amazon GC White Elephant for the family gift exchange: those mini Bath & Body Works hand sanitizers, wool socks, Ulta/Wawa GC
I finally want to get LASIK. DH will give me some money toward it. That's all I want for Christmas.

Worked on the book for a bit, went to grocery with DH so he could by stuff he wants for his 2 meals this week. I'll work on the book tomorrow again and maybe Christmas shop in the afternoon if the rain lets up. Whole Foods run on Friday a.m. plus bathroom cleaning.
For many reasons I'm distancing myself from some on social media. I sincerely try to hear all voices, but will not embrace those choosing violence.

I worked my real job this morning for 3 hours, then went and worked my side gig. That’s not breaking any rules, since my side gig is working for my union, so my real job lets me off work for that. I actually was supposed to work my side gig the whole day, but there was a snafu with what I was supposed to do this morning, so I just went to work at my real job for a few hours instead. I probably didn’t really have to, but my bosses at my real job just trust me when I say I have to work my side gig and my side gig boss just trusts me when I turn in the hours I work my side gig, and I don’t want to do anything that might look questionable on either side, so when the side gig went awry this morning, I just went to my real job.
I have to get up earlier than I like, to work my side gig tomorrow, in a city about an hour away. I don’t mind the drive, it’s just getting up so early that I’m not thrilled about.
The snafu this morning was because I needed to get on a military base, and I was in the Tahoe. It is not registered in my name (it’s Mister’s) and you have to have a letter from the owner of the vehicle stating that you are allowed to drive it, to get on the base. My mistake for not being prepared for that. But luckily, it was early enough that I could just go to work and get there on time, so that’s what I did.
I am tired and done for today. There are dirty dishes in the sink, I don’t care. I’m done. I stopped and got something to eat on my way home, so I’m good on dinner. I played nice and called Mister to ask if he wanted something, he said no. Fine with me.

Thanks Chiver! I bought a grout brush and used rubbing alcohol on it today. It helped some, but I'll get some acetone tomorrow. I just never thought this could happen! I've put a waterproof cloth and two thick beach towels under it for now - I'm going to look for a large bathmat when I'm in the store again. This is a deeper in depth dog bed, and I believe the height has helped with her knee issues. But damn, I was not expecting this!

That was part of the equation that we dealt with when we bought the Volkswagens last month. I was balancing whether interest rates on a car loan might go down versus the cost of the car going up. I’m glad we made the decision to buy the cars tariffs will likely make a foreign car purchase pricier and I don’t think loan rates are going down either

I so hate people. hugs to you guys, hope you escape unscathed. 💓 My youngest son was somehow exposed to whooping cough when he was an infant! I knew something was wrong with him, and kept taking him to the pediatric clinic. Kept getting the same old fart doctor who told me he was reacting to his formula. Finally, at his six week old checkup, I had a different doctor. Son had a coughing spell during the exam. Doctor said "oh that is not good". I was horrified and relieved at the same time. I knew something was off! After his diagnosis, the state health department called me. All of us took medication - I think I even had a mild case of it myself. Thankfully my son recovered fairly quickly. I remember this as a bad time though - I would stay up with him during the night and hold him in a recliner, so when he did cough I could keep him upright. Gosh.
