Went back to work after the week off on Monday. Holiday potluck at work is tomorrow. Counting down the days until school is out for the holidays since it means DH and Kiddo will both be home.
Last year we had a hard time finding gifts for Kiddo in store(s). I started buying random things here and there after school started. And we found a few other things on BF. I still need to pick up a couple of pieces of candy for her stocking, but DH and I are in agreement that we are done with Kiddo's Christmas gift shopping.
My sibling took Kiddo out for a couple of hours during Turkey Day Weekend. Which was nice. DH and I wrapped all the gifts. And decided which ones will be from Santa and which ones will be from Mom and Dad. I don't really understand how or why an 8yo still believes in Santa (because I remember the kids telling me in 1st grade that Santa wasn't real because they heard it from their older siblings), but, we will make it happen.
DH is a December baby with a birthday coming soon. Kiddo and I did online shopping for that and got it wrapped. I just need Kiddo to fill our her card. He decided he didn't want to go to a restaurant for his birthday dinner, so I'll cook for him. To be honest, the last few birthday dinners we've done at restaurants have been a bit disappointing. For the price of things these days, it's just really hard sometimes to accept average food at a restaurant. I fully understand some of that has to do with the specific restaurants we choose, but, when it's a birthday, the celebrant gets to choose. It is what it is. While cooking can sometimes feel like a chore, I never mind cooking for a special occasion!
Work is a bit quiet at the moment. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way for the next 3 weeks. I really need a break from the relentless grind I've been doing for the past 3 months. It's actually a bit unusual for my work to flow in such a way that timing/deadlines causes me stess, but, for some reason, that is the way it's been recently. I could use a break!

So since my car is broken, I have to drive my dad's pickup. I hate driving that thing. My cars are bougie and this truck is a 17 yo base model with no extras. I feel like I'm Amish.

Mister’s brother seems to have an opportunity to work on a project that can be a HUGE deal if he handles it right. It could put him back on the path of being a multimillionaire (again? Idk if he was millionaire or more, or just somewhere way above “hood rich” before his life fell apart) He has the skills and talent to make it happen, lack of those is not part of what happened to his business.
If this opportunity is real, it is a real opportunity for him to prove himself again and make a comeback, and I am all for it, and cheering him on. If he screws it up, I might beat him up myself lol.

I know three people with Nissans that needed new transmissions in the last 5 years. They seem to be having a bad run with them.

That's describing a redneck princess in my part of the plains states. I took a load of leaves and garbage to the in Lincoln, NE. I backed in to off load the leaves and they guy next to me told me I was an exceptional woman as were those who shopped at Menards because I was willing to get dirty and maybe lift something. Whatever, I grew up with 3 brothers and we all worked like field hands. For the first time in a long time, DH and I don't have a piece of shit truck hanging around. We miss it, it's hard to keep shiny things new and nice. I like being a redneck princess, but I don't have the parking space for another vehicle.

Carrot is going to a jazz club tomorrow night for a concert and dinner. It was only $25 for the ticket and transportation (it's a couple hours away). Cool. He signed up and paid a couple weeks ago. Well, they just sent the menu for dinner. I don't think he'll get out of there without spending $40-$50 for his meal. I'm packing him some cold pizza and other snacks to eat after school so he won't be starving when he gets there.

It had a transmission extended warranty because of known defects. We were under the limit for miles, but outside of the calendar time of the warranty when it failed. $5,000 transmission rebuild. I am hoping to get rid of it this summer. The transmission design for Nissans in this time period was junk. When I picked ours up from the transmission shop, I asked their opinion about this vehicle going forward. They all just shrugged and said we rebuilt it the same as it was. Not a ringing endorsement.

Yeah, I have my fingers crossed that the old 78 F150 will run again after the flood. It's old, it's dirty, it's been to hell and back over it's lifetime so far, so it would be a shame if mud and water took it out. Anyway, we bought it a long time ago because it was actually going to be cheaper than the Uhaul rental fee. We don't care about any messes or new dents. I will really miss our piece of shit truck if it's a goner. But then, I do see others advertised on marketplace, so we'll probably pick up another one.

I hire stuff out and keep my vehicles new and clean. Not that your way is wrong, just different. It's part of why I won't be retiring early. I'll probably work well past 65. I'm a bougie bitch and I need things.

One of my co-workers has a Honda Pilot and loves it! My DH has a Honda Passport (step down from the Pilot - no 3rd row of seats in a Passport while the Pilot has them), and my DH loves his vehicle too! Edit: Both DH and I had Toyota vehicles before our current cars FWIW. When we were shopping for new cars, his Passport and my Odyssey best fit our needs. In the future, we could go back to Toyota depending on we are looking for then.

Hubs has a 2020 Ford F 150, 90k miles, no issues. Seems like he has put on a new set of Michelins, but I'm not sure. Mine is a 2020 Buick Envision, 90k miles. His bought new, mine used, no issues. We change oil ever 3000 miles no matter it says 5. Hubs says cheapest maintenance there is I tend to agree. He said likely time for new plugs for his. We get good service from Fords, Chevys, and we have had 2 Buicks. Many, many years ago trannys were not as reliable as they are now and hubs had rebuilt quite a few. He was pretty up on things but did not know they needed serviced periodically till about the 70's and were finally told that. After that never had a problem again. We had the transmission fluid changed on schedule and new filters put in.

Good morning, car aficionado and semi-Amish invisipeeps, keeping your fleets in good repair as you sally forth. Welcome to Wednesday. I hope your day brings you good news and that you keep your feet warm and dry. I hope no one pees in your pancakes. Today will be Costco day, plus DD has a job interview. She's recently sent out a number of resumes and is getting interest. I'm hoping one of these pans out for her. She's been working very hard in PT and is truly much more stable on her feet. The jobs she's applying for should not have a great deal of walking required. Yesterday, I slept. Still in recovery mode, but my cough has diminished a lot. I did get a lot of laundry done. I wish we had a working truck-type vehicle. Then the Prius would look a lot better. It looks well used as it is, including covered with Franklin the Dog fur in the back seat. The sunrise yesterday was pretty but not spectacular. I like how the tiny dinosaurs here are blithely paddling their way past the sun beginning to breach the horizon.

I'm slowly getting moving. I was awake a few hours overnight, with some really strange images from dreams still in my head. for starters, I've been dreaming about my old townhouse a bunch lately, not quite exactly it, but I know it is (if that makes sense?) and laat nights revision was that my sister lived there, renting from me, and she had absolutely trashed the place. painting everything, drips on the carpeting everywhere, and just hoarding shit everywhere. we were also trying to get her packed so we could leave for the airport to go cruising and I was losing my mind. that last part, I can figure out the meaning, but what's with the townhouse again lately? ugh.

I don't have any specific vehicle recommendations, but car shopping is stressful AF to me. Too many choices, and consequently the possibility of making a bad, very expensive bad choice. Fingers crossed for andi9899 and anyone else out there looking.
