I have had success with Toyota's for decades. Currently have a 2008 and 2015 RAV4. Love them and plan to get a newer one.

Good morning! Just catching up. Husband and I both have Honda Fits (2013 and 2018). I will cry a river of tears when the time comes to replace them since Honda no longer makes the Fit for North America. Those cars fit so much shit in them and get in tight parking spots. When the time comes for a new car in however many years (many many, please) I've pretty much settled on a Subaru Impreza hatchback. But I love my Fit! 😭

I don't think you can go wrong with either Toyota or Honda. I have both and currently have well over 200K miles on each of them. One is 20 years old and the other 28. I also am one that hates car shopping, so I keep mine forever.

So many appointments. I have a new stretching brace, list of stretches, and an extremely inconvenient follow-up in a couple of weeks from podiatrist from yesterday’s appt. Psych this morning, meeting with my mother’s potential geriatric case manager this afternoon, dentist Friday morning, neurologist Monday.
Getting older sucks. So do cortisone shots in your foot. Stupid plantar fasciitis.

I did find some relief from rolling a frozen water bottle under my foot. I remember taking lots of OTC meds hoping it would get better. I found a podiatrist and he made me a pair of custom orthotics. I have never had an issue since. After my hip replacement a few years ago, I had a new set of orthotics made for my new and improved stride. If I go a few days without using the orthotics, I have pain in my back, hips and knees. I can't just flip flop through life anymore.

Breakfast of champions here - steamed Japanese yams and Chinese vegetable egg flower soup. I'm going to work on the book this morning. Author called the other day, zero memory of a conversation 3 days prior and couldn't remember if I had the book or he did

Hatchbacks FTW There's a ton of hate for them, but my minivan is by far the most practical vehicle I have ever owned. I am seriously thinking of getting another newer one if my current one dies even with no little kids. It drives like a car and with the seats stowed has as much storage area as full size pick up truck only all enclosed. The only drawback with mine is it gets crappy mileage, but the new Toyota Sienna hybrids get 36 mpg and you can get them in AWD. All the college move-in/out days were a piece of cake with the van.

I had two rounds of PF years ago, both cured with cortisone shots and inserts that the podiatrist just kind of slapped together in his office. I would like to be proactive and get some good inserts made to make sure it never happens again. I was thinking of going to the Good Feet Store to see what they can do.

My daily driver is a 2024 RAV4 Prime. The RAV4 Hybrid is supposed to be a very nice car too.

so our mugs from our corelli set have been breaking over the past 20 years. i went to the thrift shop to buy some replacements and bought four christmas mugs that aren't a set but go together well enough.
i am surprised at how tickled i am by a $4 expenditure.
our van is leaking oil . i hope we don't have to replace it yet. it's 13 or 14 years old and i was hoping that it would make it until dd1 left for college .
however with the tariff wars i already told dh we might want to consider replacing it now.
i don't think we are quite to the point of going down to one car yet. that again would easier in 2 years.
i kinda miss the days where i could be proactive about planning rather than being reactive all the time.

I loved my first Sienna and then replaced it with a slightly less used one that I also love. I'll always stick with Toyota having a good run on two Highlanders before needing to haul kids. Both vehicle types have been beasts to haul stuff in too.

Manager just cancelled his trip to local facility for tomorrow. Which means that instead of tomorrow, I will be visiting the grocery store later tonight. On a day where they just changed our forecast to possible snow tonight/tomorrow morning.

I have loved my Toyotas and Hondas. My current car is a Subaru Impreza with AWD. I loved my Honda Fit but they no longer come with the entertainment system so I could have my Sirius radio.
So I got a Subaru. 4 years and so far, so good.

I was going to get a Highlander but DH hates that it only has a 4 cylinder engine. He's been pricing Yukons online. The 4WD kills the price tag on that one.
At some point a new vehicle is going to be needed. His car has over 200,000 miles on it and mine has 135,000. We dumped $6,000 in them this summer. To be expected for his but the $2,000 to fix the oil leak in mine was not on top of a $1,000 mileage based service.
We've had AWD and it has sufficed in the mountains in winter but he wants 4WD this time around. And room for 6-7 people.
I was going to get a CX-90 but it's brand new and then a friend had the Highlander I liked. All of them are $60,000-$75,000 and my poor brain is having a hard time with that.

I have a 17 year old Subaru Forester that is still going strong. Next up would be my 1991 Mazda MX6 that got totaled when it was 13 years old. Between them, I had a 2003 Nissan Sentra but I only had it for 4 years when I got my Forester. The only reason I got rid of the Sentra was that my surgery made it difficult to drive since I couldn’t move the seat far enough back or the steering wheel further up. I hated getting rid of that car…..I could put the seat down in the back and toss my bike into it. It was a zippy little car that held lots.
I would like to go with another Forester but I think for my next car I’ll be looking for a hybrid, and Subarus are not quite there yet. I may switch back to Mazda…..I’m liking the CX50 that’s out, but not willing to do the $40+k price tag….even though I could pay cash for it, 8 might get a small loan since I have nothing contributing to my credit score anymore. Whatever I decide, it’s gotta be AWD while we live on this road. Between the hills and the fact that the road never gets plowed, even a FWD car doesn’t do it well. When TD had his Accord, more than once we had to leave it down the hill and trudge up when it snowed.
A lot of words to say that my indecisiveness means I’ll be doing nothing unless forced!

I have a 2021 Highlander Hybrid - I really like it and the gas mileage is awesome. However, my main complaints are that the trunk/third row area has an upward slope to it and combined with the roof line makes it difficult for fitting in larger items. My DH also thinks the front seats are cramped width-wise. However, he weighs twice as much as me. For me, the space is perfectly adequate.
Over time, we have also had a Camry, Tacoma, and Tundra. The only issue I remember is the Tundra had a recall on the frame, and that was a major replacement. However, it was at no cost to us.
I've also had a Honda Odyssey, but I think it was a slight lemon because I replaced brakes and rotors on that van every single year. I have never done that on a car before or since.
My parents have 20+ year old Volvos - my mom's last one, she put on 350k before they finally gave up on it. However, newer Volvos don't have great reliability ratings. Love the look and safety of them though.
I should have probably went for the Sienna when I got the Highlander, now that I have two kids on different travel softball teams. But I didn't anticipate that three years ago.

They had fabulous fried rice and noodles, so I used to get an egg to put on top of it…either over easy or poached. This past Sunday, we had brunch out. The restaurant makes a prime rib hash under eggs. It’s soooo good. I know the prime rib was the leftover from the Thurs, Fri and Sat prime rib offerings.

I just looked and the hybrid MAX engine has MORE horsepower than a 5.2L V8 Yukon! (362 vs 355). So, yeah. Test drive one.

It's the dang mountains that kill the power. Someone going 50-55 pulls out to pass a semi and then you just have the accelerator all the way down practically to get back up to speed. That's where he is annoyed with the CX-5. That drive averages out to at least monthly so it does happen frequently enough to consider it. And bad winter weather in the mountains stretches from November to March so the end of football season all the way through basketball season.
I think the 6 actually does better power wise on that trip. But it's got over 200,000 miles on it now so we don't usually take it anymore. The seats go down in the CX-5 so it's better for tailgates.
Honestly if I was picking, I'd rather him buy a truck and I keep my CX-5. It's fine for me. It's a couple vacations a year where we have it stuffed full. He drives in 3 days a week, 90 miles round trip and I only go once, 60 miles round trip so he won't get the newer one and run the miles up. And like in January when we go to the airport with his parents we'll have to take his mom's Acura SUV and hear about it sitting outside for a week because 4 adults and 4 checked bags won't fit.
So I will probably do nothing until I have to because the money is just obscene to my poor brain. I understand costs have sky rocketed and inflation but these cars cost more than the house I was raised in.

I have a hard time looking at cars where it used to be the price of a house. I’ll get there….not today, and not until forced to!
