I went out for a very short walk, due to the heat. I saw a man from Gabon wearing a beautiful tunic-suit of white and gold. I saw a bunch of Jamaicans grooving to a boom-box playing reggae. I saw an old Italian man, playing Italian ditties on his accordion. I saw a woman from Africa, wearing a stunning billowy dress of many colours, with a matching turban. And I came home with Portuguese piri-piri chicken. I love the vibe of this town.

At son’s house, he went to California for weekend. Wanting to rent house for year/6 months before buying
His wife just got out of hospital so she’s not going. She’s had a really rough year, repeated pulmonary problems now a leaky heart valve. Slowly resolving issues but setbacks are so difficult
So I’m taking care of the 2 dogs and 2 goats. Not difficult except need to keep them apart. Don’t want to get into situation trying to catch them!

I so miss stuff like this from living in the city! but I as I sit here about to say I don't like people, I feel like I need to just put it out there that I hate the average American that is what I would largely encounter if I left my quiet house in the woods. how do I fix this? I've joked recently that I'm best classified as feral after 2+ years of WFH. if I'm not going anywhere, I'm not brushing my hair or showering every day if I'm not sweaty/stinky. but I still clean up nicely when given a reason, and I'm still excruciatingly polite and professional in my communications. I just have zero patience for the general lack of decorum, and even less for entitled assholes of any flavor.

Went to Walmart this afternoon and bought a new planning book. Have ordered water for the fridge, a large scale dog for this upcoming winter, Just had fresh corn for dinner. Have finally made the dentist appt along with hair cut.
Biggest is that I got the big sewing tables out so I can get all the paperwork out and finally get this all done.
Oh, and can't forget, I got some of the first college football games on my planner along with the college ladies volley ball games.
For the first time in a long time I feel like I'm really making process.

Looking forward to a genealogy class this evening so I need to feed the cats. Ancestry had me submit a correction about the 1950 census where an uncle is listed as female and the mother of the head of the household. The head of the household is his older brother. I have one aunt and uncle I can't find in the 1950 census. I know the two counties where they had to be living and a general search shows nothing.

I was feeling bored this afternoona nd went back to my To Do list. Knocked a few easy things out and then started looking into an e-SIM for my trip. Mich had suggested Airalo but after some investigation I found it was data only- no phone number and thus no text? I used the phone twice on my trip to Munich/Malta and probably could have done Zoom instead but I don't like not having a phone number. Well, there went the rest of my afternoon. Down the rabbit hole of e-sim carriers, most of which have crappy reputations or work in the EU only. I'll start out with the physical SIM card I got in May, which will work in the UK, and realized that PROBABLY somewhere in Heathrow I can find a store that will sell me one that works in Albania and the other non-EU countries I'm visiting. I also tried calling AA to see if I could switch to an earlier flight form my home airport to DFW to enhance my chances of getting on the London flight and give me some time to swill wine in the lounge (current layover is 2 hours 15 minutes). Ha. They re-price the entire itinerary if you want to do that. Yeah, for another $7,000 they'll do it. So, I'll get to the airport early and see if I can stand by. Thieves. In less exciting news, I took the car in for an oil change since it had been giving me a whiny message that it was time. That was ALL it needed. Counting my blessings.

The buzzer just sounded on the dryer. I need to remake the bed but……it has a leak. Yeah, we sleep in a waterbed. TD has had it since he graduated from college and refuses to grow up. TD did a patch job on the bed and bought a new liner, I reordered a new mattress pad and new pillows. Anyway, I don’t know how long the patch job on the bed has to cure before it can be remade. We bought a waterbed when I was married. I LOVED it. I’m not even sure why I ended up getting rid of it after we separated. My BFF asked if she could have it after I’d taken it apart and put it in the attic, so I gave it to her. Idk how long she kept it. Given what I remember about sleeping on a waterbed, I can imagine that it would be comfortable for your hips. Now that I think about it, it wasn’t long after I got rid of the waterbed that I started having sleep issues. I don’t really think that’s why though. Do they even still sell them? When my ex and I bought ours, there were stores that only sold waterbeds and the stuff you needed for them, even the bedding. Back then, the bed linens for waterbeds meant the fitted sheet was sewn onto the top sheet at the foot of the bed. Those stores disappeared a long time ago.

Turns out that no patch job has been started on the bed. Guessing we are going to be sleeping in the guest room tonight instead. TD has managed to get parts for it. Bedding is just the standard California King bed, nothing special with it. I asked him if he got baffles in the new liner, he said no. I strongly suggested that it would be better for me if he did, so I didn’t get a tidal wave when he kicked. He changed the order.

But I didn't find one. Haha

DD and I went out to eat. She had a sandwich made with cheese, pineapple, olives, and sauce, it was supposed to be like a pizza stromboli, said it was really good. The owners are Italian and their food is excellent and they have all kinds and I think they make their breads. the pesto was good.
I just had a chef salad, but it only had a bit of ham, all else veggies, very good, but not enough. Got home and ate the rest of my green beans I cooked yesterday, I LOVE green beans.
I'm still doing laundry, house coats and things from the bedroom downstairs, almost done.
Would love to have a milkshake, DD would like a blizzard but we both said no and stuck to it.
Tomorrow evening we are going to an all you can eat shrimp boil, hope the stuff isn't red hot. Sounds like fun, it's at the VFW.
And I have a kitty curled up asleep beside me. Just love my boys.

I strongly suggested that it would be better for me if he did, so I didn’t get a tidal wave when he kicked. He changed the order. Idk what baffles are. I remember when the heating thing stopped working for my bed. I realized the hard way that it was a very big deal for the water to be at a certain temperature. Fortunately, that was before waterbeds became so uncommon, so I was able to easily replace it. The only time I hated having a waterbed was when DD was about 4yo and threw up in my bed, and some of it went on the floor behind the bed. Moving the bed away from the wall so I could easily clean was not an option. However many gallons of water were required to fill a queen size waterbed, meant that it was so heavy it was basically impossible to move. So yeah, that was bad, very bad. I remember back then they also had “waterbed” mattresses that looked like regular mattresses, but were filled with water. I wonder if they still sell those these days. This conversation is kinda making me miss my waterbed lol.

We have a waveless waterbed. DH really wanted to try one due to back pain, and his back did stop hurting after we switched.
We did have to patch the mattress a couple of years ago. I had all the bedding off, including the mattress cover. One of my cats thought it was play time on the bed and her claws punched some holes in it. We got the pool patch kit at Home Depot and it only took about an hour to set up.

It made me think of Three Dog Night and laugh.

Quietly celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. Spent the morning at the local casino, no big wins but broke even and had fun doing it. Had lunch at a local deli and then chilled out at home. A nice day for a couple of old retired folks.

This conversation is kinda making me miss my waterbed lol. Baffles are internal parts in the waterbed to prevent excessive water movement. We have had to replace a heater before. Water loses heat very slowly, so you don’t realize you’ve lost heat until you realize heat is leaching out of your body. Otherwise, generally it keeps us warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The waterbed is in a frame, which means when I get out I can’t sit up and stand up, otherwise the edge of the bed can act as a lever and dislocate my hips. So I have to crawl up onto my hands and knees and get out that way.

I'm eating pizza rolls and resting for a bit before heading out to do chores and maybe get started on mowing. I hate that the days are getting so much shorter already (Carrot hates when I say that. "The days aren't getting shorter mom, they're still 24 hours". )

]Do most of the places you stay have Wi-Fi? If so, I have used Wi-Fi calling, either FaceTime or WhatsApp. The short answer is yes, I'll have Wi-Fi in the hotels. I've used FaceTime but never initiated the call. I also see that there are settings I can change on my iPhone to allow Wi-Fi calling. It would just mean that I can't make calls when I'm out somewhere unless I find a business with public Wi-Fi. The one time I had to make an actual phone call in Munich was when Citibank flagged my Bolt transactions as possible fraud- I got on the web site, marked them as OK and they still kept sending me e-mails. I had to call them and the woman who fixed it admitted that they should have accepted my acknowledgment that they were legit. I did that from the Airbnb. So, maybe I'll try signing up with Airalo tomorrow. Nothing planned that requires going out in the car so I'll have plenty of time.

Today was just cleaning and laundry and cooking. DH changed the sheets and swapped out the comforter for a new one we got a bit back. Tomorrow I'll wipe down the stove top and kitchen counter and clean the toilets before the lawyer comes for our estate planning meeting. DH and I talked a bit about it, and we are both mildly anxious about the meeting for some reason. I think my anxiety stems from the feeling that I'm going to be more direct and honest about stuff than DH will be comfortable with. Oh well, that's his issue but I'll have to deal with the blowback tomorrow night and many days after.

Going to have spaghetti made with homegrown tomatoes shortly. Also, work is really messing with me right now. I'm not going to let it ruin my weekend, but I am going to recalibrate my work ethic to exactly match their level of FU.
