Years ago at a multiple band concert I saw Willie Nelson on stage singing his heart out. But it turned out he wasn't singing the same song as the rest of the group. They turned off his mic and let him go and kept playing the song on the playlist. It was very funny.

Caught a 20% sale on the Oofos site. I started having pain on the ball of my foot when standing or walking today, probably related to the twisted knee. DH has been after me to get a pair since I am in slippers 90% of the time I am home, so I happened to look today and caught the sale. I ordered a pair of mules in Purple Jade. ETA - I also ordered myself a heated shawl. Ive been watching this sale. I live in my slides. my only complaint is that they don't do half sizes, so everything is a smidge too big.

Last night I listened to Janis Joplin which is a crazy good mix of soul, rock, jazz and just the whole human experience. Decades ago when I was a relatively young person, I saw the Alvin Ailey Dance Company produce a medley of her songs. The fusion of sound and movement was incredible; I sat in one of Houston's largest venues, mesmerized, surrounded by others sobbing as I was. Janis was an icon and was taken far too soon. Not sure I would use that wording....

Why is it that when I say "go lay down Jackson" he hears "stand directly in front of me and stare at me"? I hate that! I taught my dogs the “go to bed” and “go to your room” commands. Neither were dumb but did their best to appear so. Telling them to go lay down led them to either look around stupidly trying to find an appropriate spot and then just staring at me or collapsing on my feet with a heavy sigh at my unreasonableness. If I directed them to their bed they could still see what I was doing but weren’t underfoot. If I told them to go to their room it meant I was over their nonsense and they needed to go to their kennel in another room. That usually led to them going to their kennel and dramatically throwing themselves down with a huff and a groan. I have seen some videos and reels over the last couple of days (I’ve obviously been spending way too much time onFB lately lol) that made me want to start working with Boy again. We don’t really tell either dog to go to bed or anything like that, not saying we shouldn’t. I do often tell Boy to get out of my kitchen, because I don’t like dogs in my kitchen in the first place, and he tends to hang around in the kitchen when I’m cleaning it up, hoping some crumbs might fall off the counters when I am wiping them down. And when he tells on himself when he does something he knows he shouldn’t and gets “in trouble”, as soon as he can escape, he runs to wherever Newbie is and snuggles up against her lol. He really seems to think she is his Momma. I have never had a dog tell on themself like he does and him doing that goes against everything I thought I’d learned about dog behavior when they do something they shouldn’t do. All of the research I’ve done over the years, especially when I was planning to get my Bullmastiff, that was likely to get big enough to weigh more than I did (she ended up weighing around 10lbs less than I did at the time, 110lbs for her, which was still a lot of dog to handle even though most dogs of that breed weigh even more as adults) said how important it is to catch them in the act of doing something “wrong”, because if you deal with them after the fact, the way their brains work, they don’t even understand what the problem is. Not Boy! His body language when you are getting near a room where he’s done something he shouldn’t have, tells us that we need to go in that room to see what he has done. And it has never failed, that he actually did something in that room or area. I posted a video on FB some months ago, when Boy was peeping at me around the corner of the far side of my bed, and being weird, because he’d been in the trash in the en suite bathroom. If I was quick with my camera, there are far more entertaining shenanigans I could’ve recorded, when he literally hit the brakes while following me, because I was headed somewhere that he’d been in some mischief. The funniest time, when I had to refrain from laughing out loud, like you don’t want to do when young children are misbehaving even though it’s funny, was when he was following me and hit the brakes when it looked like I might be going in the living room (where he tends to take stuff to hide or tear up) and when I saw him hit the brakes, he froze when I stopped walking and turned around and looked at him. I put my hands on my nonexistent hips, which was always a cue for my other dogs that I meant business, and asked him “what did you do”. That was the first and only time I’ve ever seen a dog tiptoe sideways while trying to be invisible. I was struggling not to laugh, and also wanted to see what he was going to do. He tiptoed sideways into the den, then ran and hopped on the sofa and got up under Newbie. I don’t remember exactly what he’d done that time, and I wasn’t even really headed to the living room, but his behavior told me I needed to go in there and see what he’d done. I don’t remember exactly what it was that time, but I do remember that there was evidence in there that he’d done something he shouldn’t have, just like it always is when he tries to avoid following Mister or me to certain parts of the house. He is unruly, but also very loving and smart. Just like my big poodle use to recognize the signs that I was getting ready to go to work or wherever, and go in his crate (even after I stopped closing the door to the crate and let him have free run if the house if he wanted, while I was gone), Boy understands now that he might as well head to the laundry room when I’m getting ready to leave for work if Mister is not home. I’ve put a bed in the laundry room for him, so he has something comfortable to lay on. I use to let my big dogs both have free run of my house while I was at work, but I insist on Boy being contained while we aren’t at home, because he and Newbie are “pit bull” type of dogs and I worry that even though they get along and Boy seems to think Newbie is his Momma, that one day they might fight for some random reason, so I just prefer to keep them separated, for my peace of mind. Boy has challenged Newbie a few times, and she got that crazy look that I don’t like, and I don’t want to fuck around and find out what that can lead to if we aren’t home to intervene and stop whatever might happen before it even starts. So that is why I insist Boy be confined to the laundry room when we are away from home. The laundry room is much bigger than a crate, so even though I’d prefer him to be able to freely roam the house, at least he has more space in the laundry room than a crate, and I put a bed in there for him to lay on, to try to make it at least somewhat comfortable for him. If he was not so unruly and destructive, I would switch out what dog has to stay in the laundry room when we aren’t home, and which one has freedom to roam the house. But Newbie is over her destructive phase and doesn’t get into stuff like Boy does, so that is why she gets the freedom that he doesn’t. I know I went across the River and through the woods with this post, and I apologize for that.

Just got home from the ER. Poor hubs, he was up all night in misery. He was going to wait until tomorrow to go to the ER!! I said no way, so I called to see if son and DIL were home to get grandson. He was about to cry because he had to go home, didn't seem to get it that grandpa was sick.
They did a cat scan, blood work, urinalysis, and his bp was up higher than we have seen it. It turned out the little kidney stone they found a month ago and said not to worry about was on the move. It went from the kidneys and is now down getting ready to go into the bladder and urethra. He started vomiting while in the ER, something I have not seen him do in 30 or 40 years I guess, that scared me. So they gave him something for nausea and a pain med. He now has antibiotics and pain meds. They also said he had some fluid around his heart, not much, but they want him to follow up with PCP. He said it might go away on its own. We were there about 3 1/2 hours. That was the most pleasant bunch of people we have had to deal with in an ER. Most were from Illinois, Pennsylvania, and other places. I was looking for the soda machine and they gave me a turkey sandwich, soda, chips, and I could have had yogurt, ice cream, all kinds of foods, I hadn't eaten anything this morning.
They said stones like that hurt as bad as having a baby, so hubs still has some time to go and sounds like more pain. I will get the scrips in the morning, he does have some pain pills from his cancer surgery. He had been having a lot of pain driving back and forth to Indiana in that area of his back and we wondered why, maybe the why. They also said he has a lot of diverticuli in the lower part of his bowel, no surprise there.
We are back home and getting warm. Glad that is pretty over with, poor guy.

Nw. How about saffire uppity blues women Love them as you might have guessed. Old blues and new with some very contemporary lyrics. Like the song about the case where a gay daughter had her child taken from her because grandma sued for custody because it was not good for a child to be raised by such an unfit (=gay) mother. And the courts agreed. Or, less dramatic but equally touching the INE where a mother tells her son turning adult that "it's alright for a man to cry". And then there is an old song which is still, or maybe again, very applicable today about the disdain society holds for the poor - one meatball. They really are worth listening to even though the band no longer exists.

I think old country music can have the same effect on the listener as old blues songs. It just depends on which genre the listener prefers. I grew up in a family that listened to Blues music sometimes, and I remember when I was in my teens, telling my Aunt that I didn’t like Blues music. She just said “just keep living baby”. And I’ll be darn, she was right! Ahhh, blues. Now you have found my favorite music. We no longer have a blues station hon the radio here so I mostly listen to rock music but blurpes...that has my soul Yassss! I know what kind of blues I grew up on and know about, but maybe you can teach me some things about the Blues music you like. I am interested if you are willing to share!

It is unreasonably warm so I am outside on the deck while the twins run around. This is such a great house. I am so happy for you that you are pleased with the house you bought, and feel like it’s a great house. I’ve read your posts about all the money you’ve been spending to get the house together, and get settled in it, but it sounds like it will all be worth it once you get past that and I LOVE that for you and your fur babies.

I like a lot of music, old real country. If you have listened to Australian country its a lot like ours. Hubs got exposed working overseas, it's pretty good too.
Also, like 60's music a lot and sometimes 50's depending on the song. And old blues music is some I listen too along with some 70's music too. On occasion the old big band music of the 40's. And I like spa music at night to wind down from the day.
Hubs is talking about putting a cat door in the door to the hobby room. Neither of us likes the litter box in the laundry room by the kitchen, but we really have nowhere else to put it. It's a steel core door with panels so will be kind of hard to cut and put in. Son and DIL went to the Star Store in Auburn, Wa and found me turkey necks and turkey wings to make broth with, I'm going to let some cook tonight for a few hours. The wings, not thighs, were $8 and necks $3 something. Need to let them simmer for a long time.
Hubs said we are going to get another fridge for the hobby room. The one we have in the kitchen looks big but its counter depth and it doesn't hold that much. It's as wide as a regular one but not deep.
So, need to get on it and start cooking, I will freeze the broth till Thanksgiving.

My LR has reached its annual disaster zone appearance as I am putting up the Christmas decorations. I have so much stuff so I keep paring it down. This is the third year I am serious about that but it slows the process down and makes it a bit bittersweet. So many memories, so many friends/homes/cities/countries. But there is no way I can take it all with me when I finally move. So I touch things again and again. Tomorrow a new batch will go on the Buy Nothing group on FB but today I am saying goodbye. Good thing there are also items that I just bought because I liked them at the time but which I am neutral about now.

We had an exhausting but good weekend. Husband's new mattress arrived on Friday, so we dragged the old mattress to the porch to await bulk trash day on Tuesday and unboxed the new one. Discovered it doesn't fit in the roughly 20-year-old Ikea bedframe we currently had in his room, so I ordered a basic platform frame that arrived today. He slept with me Friday night in order to let the new mattress fully expand and air out; I had to kick him out of bed around 4 a.m. and he slept on the couch. Lol, I know I sound awful. I love the guy but I can't stand having anyone sleep next to me anymore. Add two cats who typically sleep with me and it was a rough night's sleep. Yesterday we went out for breakfast, did a Target run, and went out for lunch and cocktails. Today we went for a woodsy walk in Valley Forge National Park then took apart the old bedframe and put together the new one. I'm glad we timed the new bed order to coincide with bulk day, because I'm not living the "couch of my front porch for three weeks" life again like we did last year. I'm now snuggled on the couch under a blanket and two cats, drinking chamomile tea, and waiting for the Eagles game to start. Wake-up alarm is off for the week. Ahhhh...

Might as well save some time and have him pee into a coffee filter now. There are 4 kinds of kidney stones....calcium, struvite, cystine and uric acid. Treatment depends on the type of stone it is. If he gets a recurrent bout of this, you don't want to go back to the ER, only to be told that he has to go home, and come back with a stone. Also, he should drink, drink, drink. It may help him pass the stones.

Collards are my favorite green. I will not even bother cleaning and cooking greens at home unless they are collards. If we are out to eat at a restaurant, and somebody else did the cleaning and cooking, then I'm not picky. Collards. Turnips. Mustards. Just don't come at me with cooked kale and try to pass it of as "southern greens". I'm glad you enjoyed your volunteer time soup! While I'm sure the social interaction did you a world of good, I'm sure the people that benefitted are more than grateful. I grew up in a food insecure household. Trust me when I tell you those recipients are thankful for your hard work. One day when I grow up, I hope to have the eye for design that Chole has. That tablescape is so impressive! I hope you enjoyed a great meal and made wonderful memories! Nobody touches my lawnmower. I bought this mower when Kiddo was about 1? I told DH very specifically that he was never to touch it. Back when he had his old job, I came home from work one day and the grass had been cut. I was not happy. I was angry. Because he used my lawnmower. That was the last time. To his credit, he does the weed eating, the trimming of limbs, etc. I just don't want him touching my lawnmower. No input on why anybody would think that was a subconscious prompt to cut the grass. But, as you can probably already tell, I'm weird when it comes to the grass. I cut it and I cut it when I cut it and that's that. No insight there. My musical tastes are less eclectic than DH. I listen to a lot of things, but there's a high probability that whatever I'm listening too was considered popular at one time or another. DH on the other hand really listens to anything and everything. There are days where we are just all home and going through the motions. I have been known to throw music on the TV and have a dance party in the living room. There are sometimes in life where we all just need a dance party. It is entirely okay with me, how you feel about your grass and your lawnmower. The way you feel about your lawnmower, is really how I thought Mister would react when I called myself being funny today. But if he is really okay with me using it, I am okay with him showing me how to do so next spring, and if that happens, I will be okay with helping him keep the grass cut. I have tried to help with all of the trimming, but even though I know how to use a “weed eater” or whatever we call it, to trim and get in tight spaces that a lawn mower can’t get to, and even how to use one to make clean edges around flowerbeds and where the grass meets concrete, the one we have is just too heavy, and it only takes a few minutes of using it before my hands and wonky shoulder start hurting. When I’ve tried to use it, it took forever just to get even a little bit of stuff done, because I kept having to stop and let my hands and shoulder rest. Like several hours just trying to edge the walkway from the driveway to the front door, and I couldn’t even finish that before I gave up. I like my yard to look a certain way as far as the details, but because I have maintained all of that kind of stuff by myself on a lot that wasn’t exactly small, but definitely not as big as this one, and didn’t have all the flower beds and things to maintain and work around that’s on this property, I don’t even say anything to Mister about all of the trimming and edging when he doesn’t do it, because I can’t “put my money where my mouth is” and help him do it, or just do it myself, with the tools we have. I really did expect him to be territorial about the new mower, but if he really isn’t, like he didn’t seem to be today, if I learn how to use it without running into and breaking stuff like I did the first day he got it, I have no problem at all with helping keep the grass cut. If we had trimming and edging tools that I could use without my hands and shoulder hurting, I would help with that too, just because a neat, “manicured” lawn/yard/whatever is pleasing to me. I’m not fooling with leaves from trees though, unless I run over them and cut them up with a mower. Idc what the neighborhood association requires about leaves. At my house, I had millions of leaves from my neighbors’ trees even though I didn’t have one tree on my property, and I gave up on trying to deal with all of those leaves, and decided to just let nature do her thing. ‘F constantly cleaning up all of those leaves on my property, when I didn’t even have a tree. I have been sweeping and getting the leaves off the deck here recently, but when I get a thousand leaves off the deck, a million more fall on it over the next few days. We do have a large tree here, a pecan tree, and that is where all the leaves on the deck come from. The leaves in our front yard, come from neighbors’ trees. I went across the River and through the woods with this post too, so imma just hush now,

Well, I think we have thrown the last damaged items away today. The ones in the house, anyway. Still to come is the garage and the shed. The last items were furniture we were still using, but were damaged. This felt like a huge achievement!

Did our shopping for Turkey Day this morning, then went out for brunch. TD and I had tickets for BSO this afternoon.
They put on an Americana program, with all American composers. Very large crowd this afternoon, BSO has the same conductor, but many new faces. We have missed the last few seasons due to travel, and should be able to catch most of this season. Same conductor, first violin is no longer there, second chair violin is now sitting in the third row and both seats are occupied by totally new faces.
Our seats have moved closer. Not sure they are better, but are still on the end to help with TD’s RLS. Next show is the Christmas show.

Poor hubs is hurting again. I saw a heating pad the other day and for the life of me can't remember where it was. I'm thinking it might help him because he said the heat from the seats in the car felt good on his back. I'm going to look in the cedar chest and in the chest in DD's room. Poor old guy, I feel so sorry for him. Never really seen him in pain like this since the 80's when he was in a car wreck.
And they did give him a filter and jug to catch the stone in. Hope he remembers to do that each time.
Tomorrow DD and I go get our hair cut and Tuesday to the doc who will be my PCP at 8, so finally we will all have a PCP finally.
Now to look again for the heating pad.

I just read through sons evaluation, wow, he does good work. Hubs still thinks in time they will promote him and he will move. But he says no way as he doesn't want to. He is very happy here, but with evals like that, don't see how he can't move up.
I always had good ones but was not liked by the women in the construction office I worked in. I was on a level with the men, able to work my own hours, travel and such and it was resented. Was there over 10 years, but then the recession hit and over 3/4's of the office got laid off. I had a job before I left but I really liked that job and would have continued working there if possible. Sometimes women are their own worst enemies.

The twins woke me up at midnight. I'm wide awake now and trying not to disturb them while they sleep. Today should be fun. I have so much work to do around the house.

I'm not in bed yet and its 1:30. Found the heating pad for hubs and he is taking his pain pills every 4 hours. He starts hurting again, but he said the heat is helping, like to never found that thing.
But my legs, hands, and joints are hurting me. Thankfully my pain management appointment has been moved up twice, now on Dec 1. Good thing, I'm going to run out of pills but can make it till then. I have found here if they think you really need care they get you in to docs. Hubs got appointments for all his important docs quick, the urologist first, then heart, we did the PCP last and his endo appt will be in February, so he is good. Glad he did today they could pull up his records, we are staying within the same care group so that works well.
People here we have dealt with so far have been super nice. If you can say a hospital visit was a pleasure, today was as much as that can be, considering.
I need to get to bed, hair appointments tomorrow.
I have tons to do also, but will I get it done, sigh, I don't know. I'm having trouble getting to sleep the last few nights, not sure why.

I'm off all week, so of course my brain was up and at it well before my normal wake up alarm would have gone off.

I feel that, cookies. I fell asleep on the couch and woke up like normal right at 6. no alarms, bc I have nowhere to be or log into. for the first time in my life since I started working at 14yo, I am unemployed. 🤷♀️
I got up to let LD out (Punk didn't budge) and do my am thing, and am now back on the couch. I'll get up at some point.

I really loathe the holidays.
The one nice thing about being cut off is then you don't have all the FOG to deal with.
Mom is feeling better and ramped up into self pity mode. She's 80 and complaining she doesn't look 50 anymore. She's also trying to convince me she hasn't done anything nice for herself in 13 years. Which isn't true because dad told her to go out and splurge and she showed.me what she bought. They also went on vacation while he was being treated and I'm sure my mom did some shopping.
It still shocks me that she is 80 and can't say "I could use help. When are you free.to help?
Its I am supposed to read her mind that she wants the thing done, drop everything and then go do it. Or do it because I was ordered to. And.then I'm supposed to interact with the passive aggressive comments because I cant read.her.mind.
I don't respond and that's held.against me too.
Same old same.old. Except I have 0 capacity to deal with it anymore.
So no I will not visit. I'll look the asshole even though I'm not. And I will continue to loathe the holidays and fake.my way through.

Sitting in hospital waiting room. DF is having a minor procedure. Had to check-in at 6:00 AM.

I found a little energy this weekend which was a nice and shockingly novel experience. Standard chores got done plus hopefully the last round of full lawn tractoring-grass has gone dormant, but the oak trees are still shedding leaves. I’ve been looking forward to this week of just two half school days bc getting DS to do his homework every night has been an awful drag…so naturally we got back from bus stop /morning dog walk to find we’d forgotten his ADHD meds Parent-teacher conferences today. I am a little nervous. His organization level is improving, with heavy supervision and nagging, but it’s nowhere near what it probably should be. I miss the days when middle school didn’t start till 7th grade.
