I just spoke to the vet. Apparently Astro is a savage beast that was on a rampage and all were worried for their safety. Give me a break! We're going there this afternoon to have it looked at free of charge and I will be having the vet send his records to my vet. Astro will not be leaving my sight. We're not going back there. When I first got my standard poodle, I took him to be groomed at the same place the guy that gave him to me use to take him. The 2nd or 3rd time I took him there, when I picked him up, his paws were bloody. He was white, so the blood was very clearly visible. It’s been some years since, and I don’t remember what excuse they gave. I was so upset at the time that I probably didn’t hear it anyway. There’s nothing they could have told me to make that okay. So I bought the supplies and learned how to groom him myself. On a lighter note, I made the mistake of buying some pet grooming clippers from WalMart and they burned out the very first time I tried to use them lol. So I went to a pet store to buy better clippers, and between the clippers and the guards, I was appalled that I spent like $300 on them. But getting him groomed was not inexpensive (one time PetSmart wanted to charge me $200 to groom him . NO THANKS) so the clippers paid for themselves with the money I saved from doing it myself. I quickly learned why it was so expensive. After his bath, you literally had to blow dry him or the long parts of his hair would immediately mat up like dreadlocks. That’s why I kept his fur short, except for the poof on top of his head and at the end of his tail. When I see poodles with the big fluffy poodle cuts, all I see is time and money. Because with them having a lot of fur, you have to be diligent about drying them every time they get wet (like rainy days) or it would mat up. And Poodles’ hair grows everywhere except for on his eyeballs and inside his mouth. You need different guards if you want the poodle look, because the hair is shaved much closer in some places than others. Plus, he was a big dog. Even after I got to be good at doing it, it still took several hours from start to finish. Anyway, he would let me use the clippers all around his boy parts, his eyes and mouth, without flinching, but until he died, when I got to his paws, he would tuck them under his body to hide them. He did NOT like me grooming his paws, even though I never cut him. He would let me do it, but he very clearly did not like it. I always felt like he was still scarred from whatever they did to have his paws bleeding the last time I took him to that groomer.

I wish I'd started with my current vet (literally around the corner from the old one) when Punk was a puppy, but I trusted mooch who knew everyone here when I got here. even he loves the current vet - he had to go twice while I was away in May - and has apologized for the recommendation. speaking of, I plan on having these vicious beasts with me when I come pick you up. hope you're okay with getting drooled on loved on in the car. I'm down.

The lady from DHS did go talk to DD and the kids this morning. Yesterday when DD spoke to her on the phone DD told her she had a good idea who contacted them because she’s been having an ongoing problem with somebody harassing her. So this morning, the lady got out her notepad and asked DD to tell her about what she mentioned yesterday. DD told her about the girl coming over and kept punching the DGD2’s father in the face in DD’s front yard and showed her screen shots of what the girl has been saying and doing to harass DD ever since then. DD thinks that since the lady was the one that brought it up, and took notes as DD was telling her what was going on and showing her screenshots and playing voicemails, that it was pertinent information. The accusations were so vile, pretty much guaranteed to get them to investigate. That they have seen DD verbally and physically abuse the children, that the baby is often covered in bruises, that DD has a lot of men coming in and out of her home and the baby screams whenever her diaper gets changed, implying sexual abuse. The lady wanted to get a good look at the baby to look for bruises and take pictures, DD ended up taking DGD2’s dress off so the lady could see her whole body, and of course there were no bruises, scars or marks anywhere on her. She met the other 2 children, and of course they had no visible bruises or anything either, I’m sure she looked at whatever their clothes didn’t cover. Anyway, when she was leaving, she told DD the case will probably be closed. I sure hope so! I'm so glad the meeting went well and that the case will hopefully be closed soon. Sadly, I suspect that the girlfriend is going to be mega pissed when she figures out her stunt did not work so she's likely to double down on her harassment. Maybe she'll take out her anger on her boyfriend and get her ass in jail finally The day she was punching him in the face in DD’s yard, HE ended up in jail. When they were in the yard, in between DD yelling for them to get away from her house with that shit, DD also kept yelling at him not to hit her back, because she figured the girl would bruise easily because her skin is so light, and then it would look like he attacked her instead of the other way around. DD doesn’t know what happened after he threw the girl in his truck and drove off, but he was the one that went to jail. For a long time, DD was nervous about letting the children go play in the front yard because crazy girl knew where she lived and had already been over there once. And you’re right, there’s no telling what she might do now. I am going to talk to DD again about taking it to the police or wherever is appropriate. Because this shit is crazy and way too much. Before she really went off the deep end, she video called DD one night and flashed her breasts at DD. WHYYYYY? Then she propositioned DD, wanting to have sex with her. Ummmm….. no. After that is when she followed him to DD’s house and started all the other crazy stuff. I know I keep telling bits and pieces of the story here and there, but that’s because it’s all so crazy and after DD didn’t follow my suggestions, I kinda didn’t want to hear anymore, and I pushed it to the back of my mind. Who has TIME for this kind of shit?!

So y’all know Tuesday was a pretty bad day for me, learning that my friend was gone. She was only 8 or 9 years older than me, and had a stroke.
So yesterday, I’d made up my mind (for the hundredth time) to take better care of my physical health. I figured I would start with my diet (again, for the hundredth time), so I decided to Google clean eating menu plans. I kid you not, as soon as the page loaded, is when I got the text from my Mom to call her, it was urgent. When ended up being her trying to tell me about DHS looking for my daughter.
That has literally been how it’s gone for me for many years now. As soon as I commit to or start trying to do something to improve myself in any kind of way, or even just start feeling good about life and enjoying myself, here comes some kind of drama or serious problems. And I get off track, sometimes before I even get started good.
Anyway, I’m serious this time (again. Sighhhh). So y’all know I don’t like to cook. The stuff I do know how to cook, leans toward soul food, and isn’t necessarily the best diet. I want to get back to eating clean, but even when I was doing it, it was kind of boring. I was mostly eating baked chicken and fish (usually salmon) and the few vegetables I could tolerate without doctoring them up in a way that negated a lot of the benefits of eating vegetables.
That’s not sustainable. I like to eat too much to keep eating stuff I don’t really like for the rest of my life. I need to find meals and dishes that taste good and are at least somewhat good for me. I am even finally to the point where I’m willing to cut back my consumption of meat. That a very big deal because I’m a meat and potatoes kind of person, and I always say that if the meal didn’t include meat, I still haven’t t had a meal yet. I’ve popped into the Whats For Dinner thread a few times for ideas. But that and trying to find information by Googling is kind of overwhelming.
If any of you have any quick tips or ideas you’re willing to share for how to clean up my diet (with specifics please), or can point me in the right direction to a starting point, I’d sincerely appreciate it. I’m at the point now that if I have to eat separately from any and everyone else in my household, I’m good with that. I just want to learn how to take better care of me.

We're going there this afternoon to have it looked at free of charge and I will be having the vet send his records to my vet. Astro will not be leaving my sight. We're not going back there. Sounds like a load of BS to me. Every vet I know who has the slightest concern about an animal's aggression will ask the owner's permission to place a muzzle on them prior to exam and treatment, or ask to administer a mild sedative if the animal is showing excessive agitation. Sadly, whatever went down will leave poor Astro with bad memories so he might need additional care and reassurance at future vet visits It is. According to the person I spoke to his collar came off and when they went to put a slip on collar on him he freaked out which to them getting a pole and trying to get him under control and he was biting at the pole and may have bitten himself that way. I said first, Astro is fat and fills out his collar well and I doubt it fell off. If it did fail off, I've slipped plenty of collars over his head just fine. I think they were trying to be rough with him and he got scared. Is he quicker to bite than the twins? Yes. So if he's agitated, then why start trying to poke a pole in his face? If I was scared and agitated and you put a pole in my face I'd grab it too. Anyone who deals with dogs know that they match energy. If you're scared they'll be scared. A scared dog will bite. Had they dealt with him a different way he wouldn't have a hole in his face.

@pinkcshmere I started slowly. Pick just one thing. Maybe focus on a meal. Or focus on exploring one veggie, or one type of salad or something. I need healthy, but I also need quick. I have a recipe similar to this that I make:
I used canned chickpeas. Because time. Here's another salad I'll make quite often. But, I don't put the corn in (carbs) I don't consider either of these recipes "cooking" more like "assembling."
What about fajitas? It's a good way to minimize meat and pile on veggies/beans. Also, look at other habits. I'm a stress snacker that craves carbs. I've started trying to cut that out.

I don't cook a whole lot of processed foods, and most of it is pretty straightforward as far as sauteeing or grilling proteins for the most part. I'm a huge fan of roasting veggies unless it's a thousand degrees out. take a look at the "foodie porn" album on my FB page, and lmk if there's a recipe you want me to share. I'm happy to share, you just gotta ask

My biggest thing lately is 50% of what we're eating should be fruits and veggies. I'm sure more veggies than fruit, but honestly I don't care if the kids are 99% fruit/1% veggie right now. Summer is such a good time for that.

Thank you! I feel like it’s unfair that I need to adjust my diet because I don’t even snack. Whine, whine, whine. When I want something to eat, I want real food, not a snack lol. I don’t even eat many sweets. I can seriously go weeks or even months without eating candy or baked goods. Nor do I drink sodas. Many of the things people try to cut down on first, I don’t even eat or drink in the first place. I will look at the recipes you shared. Thanks so much!

Sadly, I suspect that the girlfriend is going to be mega pissed when she figures out her stunt did not work so she's likely to double down on her harassment. Maybe she'll take out her anger on her boyfriend and get her ass in jail finally I think she is crazy and sees DD as a rival.

I just eat to much. Cutting back on the ozempic is already telling. I get hungry which I don't with the ozempic. Today, I cooked some tenderized pork, thin and yes had it fried. With that I had fresh green beans I cooked. I loaded up on green beans so today I'm good. Breakfast was steel cut oats. Im full and if not I will eat jello or raw cauliflower, raw tomatoes, or cukes. Also we really like the bagged salads but use my own dressing of just avocado oil, rice vinegar, and garlic salt, more low cal stuff. All that stuff is calorie free but I can eat unlimited amounts. I do like ice cream though, like it more than anyother kind of sweets and going to have to be very careful on that one.
My eating habits have changed over the last months. With little guy here we had way to much eating out but he liked Subway so much couldn't deny him. Hubs said he found one today so he could get his Subway fix. But DD and I won't be doing that much of it.

Maybe she'll take out her anger on her boyfriend and get her ass in jail finally I think she is crazy and sees DD as a rival. She is definitely crazy. Idk why she would see DD as a rival, when DD very clearly doesn’t want anything to do with the baby’s father. There’s more to the story about why DD wants absolutely NOTHING to do with him, that I won’t share, but it’s fact that she isn’t even interested in trying to be friends with him. DD was doing good just to try to coparent with him, but even that is a huge NO now because of all the drama. She really just wants both of them to leave her tf alone. It’s not like he’s a good Dad anyway. Like I said before, he tries to use the baby to have access to DD. When he’s come over wanting to “talk” to DD, he doesn’t even mention the baby or try to see her. So DD stopped entertaining him wanting to “talk”. When he use to bring diapers, like the day the crazy girl pulled up on him, he takes some diapers out of the package they came in and puts a few in a grocery bag to give to DD, trying to make DD have a reason to talk to him again when those few diapers run out. DD makes it her business to not call him or ask him for anything because he doesn’t really care about the baby, she’s just a means to try to be in contact with DD. A few months ago he brought some clothes over for the baby. DD was telling me that the baby cried every time she tried to put any of the new clothes on her. A few days later, DD showed me a screenshot of crazy girl saying on FB that she was helping her man put clothes on his baby’s back since the baby’s Mom wasn’t shit (DD) and SHE bought the clothes. I kid you not. DGD2 had a real fit every time DD tried to put her “new clothes” on her and DD was telling me about it before the crazy girl said she was the one that bought the clothes. That played out in real time, while DD was wondering why DGD2 screamed and cried every time she tried to put the new clothes on her, and then DD showed me the screenshot of a post crazy girl had made that day, saying SHE bought the clothes, some days later. I’m not saying that meant something, I’m just saying what happened.

Subway is one of the places I like to stop on road trips because you can get a decent and mostly healthy sandwich. The bread isn't the highest quality and I'm sure the meat is laced with nitrites, but something lean and not breaded on a 6" sandwich, no goopy sauces, piled high with vegetables (extra jalapenos for me ) and the calorie count isn't bad. You can even order one with veggies only ("Veggie Delite"). No chips or cookie. Water or Diet Coke instead of a gigantic fountain drink.

A coworker who had a baby earlier this year just came back to work. She had to have a talk with child services in the hospital because she had tested positive for opiods, from eating a poppy seed muffin (I thought that was a myth?). She said she can laugh about it now but it was hella scary. had to laugh at this. I am almost addicted to Lemon Poppy Seed Mini Muffins. The ones from Fresh Market are sooo good but I will snatch them up any where I happen upon them Fortunately no drug test in my future that I know of!! Fixed!!

DH and I struggle with our weight too for a lot of reasons. We love food and we love the incredible variety of international foods available here. BUT I will say again that I can eat everything sometimes, but not everything all the time.
Last night I fixed grilled lamb loin chops (2 each) with couscous (1/4 cup) and microwaved green beans (1/2 cup misted with olive oil). This was a very high calorie dinner for us but we only do it 3-4 times a year. Tonight was 1 grilled bone-in chicken thigh each, with a side of 3 baby bello mushrooms stuffed with mozzarella cheese. Yes, there was skin on the chicken and yes, there was cheese in the mushrooms. Again, this is something we do maybe every 4 months.

Don't use grounded people logic. Crazy people often work on emotion and ignore obvious things, like baby Daddy sounds like he isn't that into her. It could be as simple as baby Daddy comparing crazy GF unfavorably with DD now and then. It sounds like he isn't stable enough to get rid of crazy GF which makes things tough for DD. Can she document what is happening and show the damage CGF (crazy GF) is causing? Any chance of her getting sole custody and getting them both out of her life?

A coworker who had a baby earlier this year just came back to work. She had to have a talk with child services in the hospital because she had tested positive for opiods, from eating a poppy seed muffin (I thought that was a myth?). She said she can laugh about it now but it was hella scary. had to laugh at this. I am almost addicted to Lemon Poppy Seed Mini Muffins. The ones from Fresh Market are sooo good but I will snatch them up any where I happen upon them Fortunately no drug test in my future that I know of!! Lemon and poppyseed is a good combination.

My eating habits have changed over the last months. With little guy here we had way to much eating out but he liked Subway so much couldn't deny him. Hubs said he found one today so he could get his Subway fix. But DD and I won't be doing that much of it. Ugh I don’t like Subway. I love bread, but I don’t like the meat to bread ratios on Subway sandwiches. I never go there anymore.

Subway was a solid breakfast option for me after a dawn bootcamp workout I did a decade ago. I always picked an English muffin and loaded up on the veggies. IIRC, it was the breads that had problems. obv other than whatever comes with deli meats...

Can she document what is happening and show the damage CGF (crazy GF) is causing? Any chance of her getting sole custody and getting them both out of her life? Well, if DD ever does go to the law about this crap, she has screenshots of a lot of stuff that would probably get the authorities to tell both of them to not contact her. The baby’s father knows he can get hemmed up by the law too, if DD follows up in what she’s already started in regards to him, so he only goes so far with his nonsense. But why is all of that even necessary? He knows why DD doesn’t fool with him and why she bailed on trying to at least coparent with him and crazy girl just doesn’t care about the law and police looking for her. Maybe DD needs an attorney to help her navigate how to put a stop to all of the craziness, but DD doesn’t have any money to retain a lawyer. I’d have to do it for her.

We do enjoy some things like collard greens and black-eyed peas, but choose to sub in smoked turkey wings or necks for pork products in both. I favor a Goan-style recipe for black-eyed peas that involves coconut milk and enough hot peppers to make you forget about the lack of meat.

Don't look at me! Supper was a bowl of cherries, fresh sweet corn, and a handful of jellybeans. I usually do better, but it's too damn hot! I'll often have a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and my home-made dressing. I'm usually a pretty good cook, but I save the more complicated stuff for the colder months. Do you like fish? Low cal, with some veggies and salad, and you've got yourself a healthy meal that won't jam up your arteries.

I like cookbooks like Thug Kitchen.
I like their cookbooks because they are so vegetable forward. Their recipes don't call for a lot of stuff I'd have to buy that I don't normally.
And it's pretty easy to swap. I don't like almond milk. I just use the equivalent amount of cow milk. It's not vegan anymore but the recipe still works fine.

Since we're talking food...we are on a roll this week. 4 dinners that everyone ate without complaining. I know it's nothing compared to most of you, but I'm seriously thrilled. I dontbrven usually want dinner and I swear ds was 10 before I accepted that I can't be surprised that somehow dinner must be served every night.
We don't have ac, so no oven for us in the summer. On Monday I made a lemon chicken in a cast iron skillet on the grill. Tuesday I made mini calzones (using biscuit dough) on a stone in the grill. Dd made waffles last night, and dh made stove top tuna noodle casserole tonight. Waffles and tuna noodle casserole are staples but the other 2 were new to us meals. I love grilling for the low clean up and the skillet and stone just seriously up'd our game.

I gave up on the solar pump for my pond, but ran an extension cord and threw in a normal electric pump. I should have done this to start. So much cheaper and easier and I just love it. Dh is testing the water for me and hopefully I can add fish this weekend. I've been ignoring this week and hadn't realized how much the hyacinth had grown.
Now that the pump won't turn off and the waterfall won't empty I can throw in a bunch of clippings of pothos, spider plants, bamboo and others to grow more plants. Happy.happy.happy!

Pink - look for 'cooking for two' cookbooks. They have recipes noted for healthy eating and also one that are fast and easy. They have one on just Mediterranean cooking. Which is quite healthy if done right (lots of olive oil for satiety).
