My unhappiness was made worse yesterday when I got word that one of my childhood playmates had passed away. She had been sick for several years with a diabetic wound in her leg that would not heal. She had been housebound because of it. Her husband retired to take care of her. When her parents died, she was executor of the estate. The house is 2 doors away from where she lived now. The parents house was full when we were kids. She had told me, they kept putting stuff in it so it is like a huge storage unit. Her house is the same way. They were collectors of many things. I don't know what her brother does now with the parents' house. Last I checked it was titled to both of them. She told me her parents intent was for him to live there with no house payments. He said no way was he living with all of that junk. I will miss the witty emails I would wake up to when I least expected them. She was a very kind soul who spent her working years in social work. I will think about her on Ground Hog day because that was her birthday. She sent me one of her witty emails on my birthday last month. I'm sad but this sadness is acceptable to people. My sadness about the election is not. The only neighbor left in their house on our street was the one who let me know. She asked me to let my sister know. I didn't want to talk to her so I let her know by text. Chicken's way out. Definitely. But the best way out for me.

Have you done shrinking on Apple TV? We’ve really like that. I don't have apple TV, but maybe rearranging streaming services would be a good idea. Give us something new. I just finished The Devil's Hour on prime. Two seasons so far. British. I hope the third season is out soon. On Apple TV - Slow Horses. This is probably the best show I've seen in a while.

What did you pay for them? We have a 2100 sf ranch house and I’d like to get some idea of what they cost. So our house has a hip style roof. Gutters on all four walls. It's not terribly big - about 1300 sq ft. I'm thinking it was right at 5k. It has been several years since we had it installed. But it's been great - no more clearing out the gutters or having them overflow. Leaf Filter is priced by linear foot of gutter installed. my house is a small ranch, 50' deep from front to back. with no formers or anything, it was 100' linear feet and with whatever discount coupon I had, itcame I at just under $3500. also tagging Anne_in_VA as it was originally her question.

We have 1 contract and an offer on the modular up here.
One is offering $82500, the other $92500, we had it listed at $94000. Both offers are all cash with an inspection, and occupancy the 6th or earlier, I will be so relieved to be out from under an electric bill and rent of $730 a month. Of course we took the higher, its a simple, clean contract.
Crossing my fingers all goes well and it is gone.

mooch and M just left. I'm taking a minute before I start cooking for the pups and then myself this afternoon. mooch winterized the outdoor shower and replaced my kitchen faucet. that has been leaking badly the past few weeks, and I'd bought a new faucet not long after I first moved here. it's been stashed til i needed it...which is now. well, the mechanicals pretty much fell apart as soon as he touched it all, that's apparently how shitty my well water is. 🤢 he also had a few choice words about what came out of the shower's water heater in the shed when he emptied it. it looks like I'm looking at a water softener system, and whatever else he mentioned in between cursing about things falling apart. I'll ask him after 11/22 when I'll have the brainpower to worry about it.
he asked me at some point in the middle of the faucet project, how much I thought it would cost if I called the company he works for - $880 to replace the faucet, with me supplying the parts. 😲 what it cost me? the faucet, which he ordered for me at cost, ~4y ago. and I made a pot of mashed potatoes and his mother's bacon-wrapped meatloaf at his request.
to answer andi's question from awhile back - this is another part of why I didn't totally write him off. he saved my ass with the piping nightmare when I first got here, and the pups still love them both. it's definitely handy to know people who know things I don't, and they are fun to hang out with in small doses with the distance I have as buffer. 🤷♀️

Aside from the obvious reminder of one's own humanity, it hurts to lose people you enjoy, know well, trust, respect, understand and have history with.

Since we are talking about streaming services - don't forget that "tis the season" for great deals at least until TG. This morning I saw STARZ for $20/6 months. If they have something you like this is a great time to binge watch.

I continue to be sick - now I have pneumonia and a pleural effusion.
This f&$*$ sucks. I started a new (third) antibiotic and am praying to whatever deity that might exist that this starts working.
It's terrible timing as my parents are out of town visiting my brother and DH is leaving on his annual hunting trip tomorrow. I hope the new med starts working quickly and DH doesn't have to stay home.
I'm worried that I was on antibiotics when I got this, but the PA said those aren't designed for pneumonia and this one is. My kids both had pneumonia last month, so I guess the germs were just festering inside me for a few weeks.

I loved the first season! I need to restart Apple TV so I can watch the second season. Keep in mind they are releasing season two one episode at a time and it’s not all out yet. We didn’t know that and got sucked in and now have to wait for Wednesdays for a new episode 😂 The 2nd season is fantastic though. They hooked me like that with the first season. First few episodes released all at once, then I had to wait week to week for the rest.

Spent too much. We can technically afford it now but I shouldn't do that.
I shut off my brain and was just having a good time with Gwen at a Christmas Bazaar and then we picked up some decorations at TJ Maxx.
She did say this was a great day so I suppose it is worth it.❤️

Cooking Parmesan garlic stuffed mushrooms and getting ready to cook my steak at some point. I wanted to go to Longhorn but I've been spending waaaaay too much lately. So got all the fixings and am putting my own spread together although I can't cook a steak to save my ass. No time like the present to practice, I guess. House smells fabulous from the garlic, though. Guess I'm not really a vampire after all

Here's my crabby paddy PSA: If you live within a 5 minute walk of a venue that will draw a good amount of people, please let the parents know that there is an event in the venue in the invite that you send out.
And, also, how can college kids afford tablets, computers, and studying at a coffee shop? I paid 4.50 for a small chai. I didn't even look to see how expensive meals were.
I didn't study at a coffee shop more than a couple times a month. No meals.

Speaking of chai I had a gingerbread chai latte from Starbucks today.
Holy cow was it better than I expected.
I'm not normally a Starbucks person but I plan on getting a few more before the holiday is over.

Done for today. Hubs moved the stove out and fridge for me and took the bottom piece off the back of the fridge. I cleaned all the dirt out that I could from the coil thing. He put it back together and I washed down all around it and the floor after vaccing, same with the stove. Looks they were new in 2020 so not very old.
Then I painted behind them and had already washed the backsplash so painted it too. Tomorrow we are both going to wash walls in there and then paint. It shouldn't take long but is kind of awkward to get to some areas,
I'm going to try and get hubs to let me put in new quartz or corian countertops after we sell the other modular. I want that and the backsplash done. Next summer we will refinish the cabinets and will have a beautiful kitchen, care hardly wait. And it is spacious, love it.
Need to put it back together soon.

My job didn’t draft me to work my holiday, like they almost always do, so I’m don’t have to work tomorrow. Yayyyy! They drafted everyone, all the way to the senior person in the building, to work Monday, the actual holiday. That’s my regular off day, so “my” holiday is tomorrow. I have to work my side gig Monday though, which is odd. But that’s the date the person at this agency wanted, even though they are federal and it’s a federal holiday. Last night when I went to bed, I decided that when I got up this morning I was going to tell myself today was gonna be a good day, like claiming it. I forgot about it this morning though lol. Probably because I was cranky when I got up. But overall, it was still a decent day. Nobody got on my nerves at work, so that was good. I worked by myself, which I don’t mind. That means for the whole day, the only talking I did was greeting people as we passed each other. I didn’t mind that at all. I did have a moment during the day, but I got past it.
