She's an adult, not a teenager. There's no way I would keep lugging my adult child around all over so they didn't have to pay for a car. They don't need drivers ed here once you turn 18 so that wouldn't be an issue.
eta: And if a car isn't necessary where they live then Mister still shouldn't have to be driving her around. My son spent 4 years in Minneapolis with no car and somehow managed to get everywhere he needed to go.
Oh. I completely agree with you. I would not make the same choices as Mister, either. It's pretty clear on how we've handled DS that we wouldn't put up with any of it.
And there can still be legitimate reasons why YD won't drive. Which. Fine. You can have legit reasons not to drive and not be coddled.
It all stops when Mr decides he's done. It's also OK that Mr isn't ready to look like a huge ahole. I'm a firm believer in that we do things the hard things that have pretty big consequences when we are ready to. If DH would have pushed me on my parents, instead of letting me come into it on my own...that would have been bad. Conversely, I had to wait until he was really ready to get through the first Step.
I think most of us would not choose a path knowing that the outcome was that a significant relationship was going to be severed. That in itself is hard, even if it is the right choice.
Pink absolutely made the right call. I wouldn't touch the situation with a 10-foot pole, either.
I think the situation pretty much sucks for everyone.

It seems so bizarre to me that he doesn't make her drive. I'm already stalking the driver's ed site to get Carrot in a class next summer right after he hits 15. For real! I didn't want to learn to drive either. My dad said tough shit, I'm not your chauffeur. I finally got my license at 17. He also bought me a beater car to drive. I did the same with the girls. My dad insisted I learn to drive as soon as possible. He took me out once to teach me how to drive. After a particularly spectacular power corner turning into a store on our maiden voyage he never brought up me getting my license again, and after he pried himself out from where he was cowering on the passenger side floorboard he said my mother could teach me to drive. He didn’t ride with me again until years after I got my license and he knew I never actually got in any accidents. I still took corners a bit fast every time he rode with me just to freak him out.

I’m intrigued. I had to Google it. Roasted turkey, gravy, cranberries, green beans, sweet potatoes, crispy onions, and both mozzarella and cheddar cheese on a Detroit-style crust. It doesn’t look that bad, but it doesn’t sound that good either, and they totally lost me at the gravy. Gravy, instead of tomato/marinara sauce? I don't like my foods to touch, so it's probably not for me. But at least it's not majorly expensive.

And apparently Thanksgiving pizza is a thing as there’s tons of recipes online for various types which mostly seem to use gravy instead of tomato/marinara. Learn something new everyday. I’m still not brave enough to try one.

I still drive one, 25y later. (woof, that hurt to say)

Didn't someone recently have their air ducts cleaned? I'm wondering how much it was. Stanley Steemer won't give me a ballpark over the phone. Not sure how much, but from my understanding if you are going to do you will have to any furniture close to vent for the equipment.

I've been drooling over the 12 Days of Christmas ornament set at Pottery Barn.
I've been satisfied just looking at them online because I couldn't justify the cost.
DH bought them for me!💖

I got to watch my heart valves today as I needed an echo. It was pretty cool. The biology major nerd in me was geeking out. I hope everything is OK! And I geeked out too when they did mine.

I did indeed have ice cream for dinner. I totally should have done that yesterday. I bought a pint of caramel swirl gelato over the weekend in advance of yesterday's dental work. you picked a fantastic place to go, though. I feel like a visit to see my sister might be in order soon lol...

current sitch is broiling a ton of (sale) asparagus for the pups. I've confirmed with mooch and M that there will be a pup sleepover this weekend. one of my oldest friends will be back in MA for the weekend with her family, they all live near Atlanta as she works for TWC. so I'm also planning my "go bag" to sleep on the couch in my parents place so I can catch up in person.

It's around $500 give or take here in Council Bluffs. We decided to go the route where she logs X amount of hours with us instead. She has to drive a certain amount during the day, the night and in certain weather conditions. We got two years to get it done. She's already completed the night driving part. They took the logging x amount of hours option away from us after the pandemic was declared over...and everything went back to normal, so at some point in late 22 early 23.
There is exactly 1 driving school in our city of 280K. Our school district does not offer drivers ed at a reduced costs. It is really quite a racket if you want your license before you turn 18.

She could not have been sweeter/snarkier! My kind of person! Commented on my shirt that displays one business corporate owns and was wondering why I would be taking pics. I explained that the company I work for also owns the huge candle making making company nearby and I did not realize that I was that close so many times until I saw "The Foods that Built America" episode that covered Steve Herrell who coached Ben & Jerry's on mixin, and that was when I added it to my "foodie bucket list" - she LOVED that. She gave me another history lesson. It was great!

I did indeed have ice cream for dinner. I made a pan of fudge just before dinner. And, I had to clean out the pan after I put it into a pie pan to set. Now I'm not hungry for dinner.

I put way too much brain power into today. It should have been easier. I wanted out of the facility at 2. I got out at 4.
I had a great dinner of ice cream and then worked 2 more hours in the hotel. I am burnt TF out.
And I still have to convo with DH soon and be up at 4am to pack and do an early morning site visit before flying home.
Plus I would really to see the Yankees go down tonight. Priorities.

We have a lot of Halloween candy from trick or treating this past weekend.
I bought vanilla ice cream and we've been making our own blizzards with the candy. So far, we've had Reese's Pieces, M&M, and Twix blizzards.
And now I need to buy more ice cream. 😂

I got my glasses finally today and I love the new frames. Very old lady chic. Or 90's librarian. They're also my first pair of progressives so that's a little less fun and is going to take some time to adjust to.

I’m sure he’s not happy with me for saying no. But if it’s okay for her to pretend I don’t exist even when she walks right past me when she comes in the house, then pretend I don’t exist when she needs something. I don’t want to start my day being trapped in the car with her and all of her negative energy anyway. Uh oh, he just got back home to take her… That didn't come out the way I intended, Pink. I was trying to say your decision is the correct decision. I am firmly with you on this. I read it the way you intended, I was just fussing, but not IRT your post even though I quoted you. And thank you.

I've been playing with the idea of changing up our Thanksgiving meal. I love all the traditional foods but that makes no sense for just 2 people with a quite small fridge/freezer. Nor does hours of cooking and a long clean-up make sense either. I talked to DH about it today and he's totally onboard with something I'm calling "grazing all day" which will allow us to watch the parade and some football and enjoy good food without excess work. Some things will be bought and some made at home. This is what I have so far: Stuffed mushrooms (from Aldi, bake in oven for 20 minutes) Bacon-wrapped Brussels sprouts with maple syrup glaze (make at home) Spinach/artichoke dip from local restaurant with crostini Jumbo shrimp cocktail (make at home) Baba ghanoush and pita bread (Whole Foods) Kofta skewers (from Whole Foods, bake in oven or grill as weather allows) Tres leches cake portions (local bakery)
Ideas
Sounds like a great day! Thanksgiving 2020 husband and I stayed home (obviously) and it was our favorite holiday ever. We made the dinner we wanted, sat at our dining room table together, drank wine (and mourned our old lady we put down the day before). We've been trying to do Thanksgiving alone again ever since but both our moms are good at guilt trips. This year is my mom's year with us, and if she gives me any inclination that my sister isn't doing anything then we are staying home and not telling anyone!

Went to Whole Foods today for a couple of apples and pears and saw their sign (which might have been there forever and I just didn't see it) that they ban open carry which made me very happy. I know it cost the company a lot of time and $$ to jump through the hoops allowing them to ban open carry and I appreciate it. While I understand and respect the laws of my state, I'm very uncomfortable shopping alongside someone with a displayed weapon.

Our fireplace is serviced and we have it on. It is keeping the living room just right, but I doubt we leave it on for long. I might have it on later when I stay up. We have never had a fireplace before and being gas hubs doesn't mind.
It's only 5:30 but I'm getting a bath, washing my hair, then fixing dinner. We are having fried fish, french fries, and salad tonight, a simple dinner.
The kitties wanted out but ran back in in just a few minutes as it has rained all day. I brushed Tigger really well, he purred like crazy. Smoke's fur is like silk already, Tigs is a bit thicker. Smoke sat in front of the fireplace and looked at it for quite awhile, I guess he didn't know what to make of it.
I deleted 30 political messages and they just keep coming. I will be so glad when this election is over. And I pray that man loses, please, please, please. I can't believe anyone follows him. Yes, I am stressed and scared over it.
Hubs and I were remarking we haven't seen anyone out here out and about lately, like we are all cocooning at home. I know we aren't going much but that is because we are painting.
Wayfair still had the area rug I had so just ordered a 6 ft runner for the front door to go with it. Decided to save the cost even if it isn't much to put toward new flooring in the bedrooms.
Ok bath time for momo!

Utilizing my fairly limited medical knowledge going over the report, I can confidently say, "I think so". I haven't heard from the doctor yet though. I just complained to him about how high my heart rate gets with just walking so he ordered one to check the box.

Mister was irritated when he came home to take YD to work this morning, but I was not bothered and he got better during the day.
I called him when I left home because if I had time, I was going to stop and get some chicken wings to take to my side gig with me, and I wanted to know if he wanted me to drop him some off since I’d be near him. He said he’d put some steaks in the refrigerator to thaw so he could cook them when he got home to work. But if he got home too late, he might not cook them tonight, because he’s not coming home and go straight to the kitchen to cook. Then he said “Y’all are gonna have to start cooking”. I told him I’ll start cooking on my days off work, but I’m the last person to get home from work, and I’m not going straight in the kitchen to cook either. Mind you, when YD DOES work, which is only a few days/week, it’s also only 4 hours, and she gets off work before either of us do. That was pretty much the end of that conversation.
So I got home about 30 minutes ago, and he’s on the phone with OD, who apparently called him on YD’s behalf, because there is no dinner. Mister was naming stuff that’s in the kitchen that YD could have cooked. He didn’t sound bothered that OD had called him, fussing about dinner. Mind you, OD isn’t even in the area, she’s away at college.
5 minutes after he got off the phone, he comes and tells me he’s gonna go ahead and cook the steaks tonight, so they don’t go bad. I said how would they go bad before tomorrow, when you just put them in the refrigerator last night? He said “well, I just don’t want to take the chance”. LIES! He is cooking them so YD can have dinner, because OD called him. But I was walking forth through the house when he was on the phone with OD, so maybe he thinks I don’t know what the conversation was about and he decided to just tell me anything about why he changed his mind and decided to start cooking the steaks at 7:30.
I tried to write just the facts, and mostly leave my thoughts and reactions out of it. But my thought is “these people are crazy”.

Work has already started with the big bowls of candy out, next week it will be even worse as everyone brings in their surplus. I have absolutely ZERO self control with candy. I haven't touched a doughnut since July which is unbelievable, but candy? Yeah. I will grab that shit.

I’ve had a pretty good day again today. I am grateful for that.
I didn’t get bothered by any of the stuff with Mister and YD. But I did notice some slight physical symptoms of what I understand now, is anxiety, after Mister asked me to take YD to work this morning. But I got my nerves together, told myself I did what was right for me when I said no, and kept it moving.
And while I was typing this, I saw on the cameras on the porch that YD had some food delivered. So Mister is cooking for nothing lol. OD might have had some food delivered for YD, idk.

Nothing takes the chill out of the house like a fireplace, and especially dampness.
