andi9899, I've moved across town and across the country. Moving across town was more of a pain than moving cross country. You think you can move yourself locally little by little and it takes FOR.EVER. and is stressful and exhausting. With a long distance move, the big door goes down on the back of the truck and that part of the move is done. There's a nice finality to it. Maybe you've got some cleaning to do at the old place, but what's going with you is gone and you'll see it again on the other end. (Hopefully.) I suggest you try not to take 10 days to complete your move. You might be tearing your hair out by the end. However you do it, we are cheering you on and are excited you are moving into a place of your own again. I'm actually going to take all 10 days. I close on Monday morning. I'm going there in the afternoon to clean. Tuesday is painting day. I'll take small things that I can fit in my car that I don’t want the movers to touch. I work Wednesday and Thursday, so I'll probably just take a few things over both days on my way to the gym. Friday my cousin is coming to replace a bunch of outlets and fix a small leak in the basement. There is also a small section of fence that is missing, so we'll put that up as well. Next Saturday the girls are coming over to move more small items and some boxes and put things together. Movers are coming Sunday to move big items. I'll probably take off Tuesday and Wednesday of that week to clean my apartment and unpack boxes. By the first weekend of November we should be back to regularly scheduled programming. I hope.

seriousthistime that can be due to it thinking there is an obstruction. The motor current is sensed and if it is high it stops. Usually an adjustment for that.

That's great that she got the utilities turned back on. If she ends un in assisted living, what will you do with your house, or have you even gotten that far yet. I really haven’t gotten that far yet. I recently calculated that once it’s paid off, what I could get for fmv rent, would be more in less than 10 years, than what I would get if I sold it this year. But that doesn’t include the money I’d have to spend to get it ready to rent, or the headache of being a landlord, even though I would have a far easier time legally evicting a stranger, than my Mom. I’m just saying that I know there are costs associated with owning a rental that have to be factored into making that decision. Also, with my current situation regarding where I live now, I am really nervous about selling my house. Even if I sell it, it’s not worth enough to make buying another house “easy” at this point in my life. So even though I’d really prefer not to live there again, I am kind of scared to sell it, in case I need somewhere to lay my head and have to just suck it up and go back there, because I’m not in a position to buy another house in an area I’d be at least somewhat comfortable living in, given the current local housing market. I’m not sure that I’m making sense, trying to explain, please forgive me if I’m not. It makes sense. Honestly, unless I was a contractor or had a bunch of money in reserves for repairs to the property after people trashed it or to cover missing rent, I wouldn't be a landlord. You have to let the get so far behind before you can evict them. You also have to assume that they'll trash the place before moving out. IMO it's not worth it. You'd be surprised how much you can sell a home for these days. Especially if you've owned it for quite a while.

Packing up and cleaning up is the worst part of vacation. I'm trying to leave fairly early in the morning. At least there is an elevator to shove all the crap in to take down to the car.

Running on the generator. Power is out, so needing to heat up the water on the grill for pasta. At least the sauce got a good chance to simmer awhile. It should stay hot until the pasta’s done.

I’m not sure that I’m making sense, trying to explain, please forgive me if I’m not. We've got some good companies here that you can pay to manage your rental(s). They screen the potential renters, and get a percentage of the $$. I'd looked into it before our last move (too long a story to go into now, but we ended up not renting out our house). But, I agree that fixing up a house is an expensive PITA. Had to do that with Mom's house before I could sell it, and still didn't get as much as it was probably worth. Sadly, I'm glad to be rid of it now, as the old neighborhood isn't as good as it used to be, and appears to be getting worse. Glad for you that at least your Mom is looking at a different place to live. Wishing you the best!

Going to have to rewrap my finger again. I cut it good we had bleed stop products but can't find them. They were in the basement at the other house. some for major cuts. I'm sure I didn't get rid of it, but don't know where it is. We have things we may not have gone through yet. It was my preparedness supplies.
I have several towels I've bled into, but think its better, going to rewrap after my bath.

Spoke to the banker today. The amount I need to bring to the closing table is about $3,500 less than what I thought it would be. Yay! I strongly suggest that you do a final walk through Monday morning before closing. Most of the time it’s fine but I have heard of things happening between inspection and closing such as vandalism or the sellers taking things that were supposed to be included.

If you have the glue that the er uses that will be the quickest way to stop the bleeding countrygirl2I sliced my finger with a mandolin and lost a lot of blood. They glued my finger and only then the bleeding stopped. It went on the whole day and nothing we did worked.

I cut it on a mandoline. We have some spray stuff and liquid bandage, I think this bandage is finally helping. Glad I was almost done fixing dinner or we would not have had it tonight.
I ordered some to have on hand as we are always cutting ourselves. I think I will be ok, but I lost a piece of finger.

The blood thinner I'm on didn't help. I'm hunting and pecking here on the keyboard.
We thought about going to a minor ER but after a few hours felt like the bleeding was getting somewhat better so didn't, may have to yet.
I got flu and covid shots yesterday, so kind of hurting all over anyway. This didn't help.
Everyone is in bed but me. Everytime little guy comes over he brings a few more things, LOL, now he has a set of books he added today. So he is tucked in for the night too.

On our way to NWPA for a few days. We’ll be back home on Tuesday afternoon. We have next week off, which is a much needed break. All of the landscaping will be done by the time we are back. It looks so nice already even though many plants are going into dormancy and are still small.
Our landscaper planned so that we will have something blooming from spring all the way to late fall. With a few exceptions, everything is native to our area which eases maintenance. I will post some before and afters next week. In addition to the landscaping in the front and side, we have 3 maples, 4 apple trees, 2 white dogwood, and 1 eastern redbud going in.
I already have ideas in my head for new areas of planting. We are not gardeners by any stretch of the imagination and we can afford to have the landscaper take care of the plantings. We just have to do the watering. Once they get well established, even that can mostly take care of itself due to selecting natives.

Good morning, industrious invisipeeps, tending yards and dinners and children and pets and property. Welcome to Saturday. I hope your day is restful and nothing makes you bleed. I hope you enjoy an adult beverage tonight if you imbibe or a fantastic dessert if you do not. This will be a quick post. I was catching up on the last pages before I bring Franklin the Dog to the beach. Yesterday was a wonderful trip into western Mass. DH planned everything including where we ate and the several stops we made. He felt bad that the leaf color peak had passed already in much of the area, but it was still beautiful to me. This is a pic of the statue "Hail to the Sunrise" of a Mohawk greeting the rising sun on the Mohawk Trail:

Keys were dropped to the rental agency and I have an iced coffee. Stopping at Bucees for gas and breakfast. DH has never been. It is an enormous gas station/shopping/food place. I've been to the one in Sevierville four times this year but DH didn't go with me either time to TN.

countrygirl2 I would do something about that finger. At least go to a CVS Minute Clinic. They are very affordable and the care is good, I've used them more than once. If it's serious they will derive you somewhere to get the care you need. If no CVS Minute Clinics nearby, look for something similar near you.

azucena I've have not commented on BT's saga but I've been following it. It's heartbreaking she has to go through all that. I cannot imagine having tooth ache for a long period of time. In my opinion, I would go the E.R. right now. I know your concern is that she'll have to return to her bio mom. But if she has a serious infection, her very life is on the line. She's old enough that, even if she returns home, she can spend time with you and your family. Wasn't she in your house a lot before she moved in? Besides, she's not that far off turning 18. I don't know the details of how she came to live at your house, but you don't have custody now and she's living with you. Why couldn't she return once she's released from hospital? I admire you for what you're doing. But please don't neglect yourself or your family in the process of helping BT.

Another Saturday and here we are. I'm planning on going to the pool, then lunch with the Meetup group, and then grocery shopping. Tomorrow, we're going to a fair, then I'll hit an Argentinean restaurant near the fair location, and back home again.
My cousin in Uruguay has a coworker just fired. Coworker was stealing from the company to the point of paying herself her salary twice, plus stealing cash, etc. Small company, no oversight. Apparently, coworker was also leading a double life, and details are still being uncovered. She'll call me Sunday evening with all the juicy details. For what she's said, it's almost unbelievable. I can't wait. I know the person in question, and if you met her, you would think she's a very quiet, nice, somewhat shy lady. She had worked at this company for about 15 years. Everybody knew and loved her. She had everyone fooled, including my cousin.
I'll keep you all updated.

I'm in a bit of a quandary.
As some of you may remember, I started a new job in June. A couple of weeks ago, I was notified the company wanted to nominate me for a leadership training course.
I was happy with the nomination. Remember I come from a work environment where I was mistreated and bullied. Constantly told I wasn't doing enough, and I had zero future. Going from that to this nomination, it felt so good.
This past Thursday, just before 4.30, I get an email from the head of HR. It had the program application attached, and the application was due Friday (yesterday). I spent Thursday evening filling the application. It had some questions about education and job history. But there were also some questions about my interest, examples of leadership at work, and in personal life, etc. So I had to think about it. I got it filled and sent Friday morning.
It all happened so fast. But then I started looking at the syllabus. This is an intensive course, in-person meetings once a month, then meetings with the higher ups at work to discuss progress every month. Then there's a capstone project to present. The meetings that take place every month, are at the beginning of each month.
I won't be here at the beginning of January. I'll be out of the country. And the January meeting is the first one, when you get introduced to instructors and fellow students, and get all the information about the course.
My manager still doesn't know I'm taking vacation in Dec-Jan. That drives me crazy. HR failed big time not informing him upfront when I accepted the job offer. That was what I requested. That the manager be informed of the vacation as a condition of employment. They told me yes, no problem, but did not inform the manager.
I haven't talked to him yet because, first, I was waiting for my probationary period to be over, and second, I want to tell him in person and haven't seen him for about a month. He works remotely a lot, and we've had construction at the building for the last month.
I'm thinking of calling him to inform him of my vacation if I don't see him next week. I can't wait anymore. As for the program, I may not be selected. It's not a given.
So, I don't want to put the cart before the horses. If I DO get selected, I won't be able to attend the first meeting. The company I work for has a very laid back and easy-going vibe. Would the program allow me to continue if I miss the first meeting? Would the company I work for be ok with it?
I really want to do this. I know I could cancel vacation. But everything has been booked and paid for since May. I would lose thousands of dollars. Plus, maybe it's difficult to understand unless you're an immigrant, but I need that yearly visit back home.

I just wasn't sure how much I'd shared at the time. so here goes... when we talked later that night, she said she was sad that mooch had left after she was a complete c-word. and I said something like why are you sad? you were an asshole! well, she snapped at me about how I'd always take his side, that I had hooked up with him first, and all this other garbage. so clearly it bothered her that he and I had been FWB a long time ago (which *I* put a stop to, long before he ever became my mooching roommate in the last place). well, yesterday was her birthday. at the top of my news feed before I loaded up the day's FB memories, I saw a post from him to her, wishing her a happy birthday. as I'm scrolling through the memories, I noticed a decade+ old check-in at a concert venue that hasn't been around for years, for a band I've only seen on land once - the night that he followed me home from said show and stayed over for the first time. 🤦♀️ so not only does it bother her that I had hooked up with her guy first, we started on her birthday before I ever met her. things I can never say out loud IRL. lol...

Ava- I think you are over thinking it. I'm glad you applied. See what happens. Things can't be so strict that they are immovable.
We have a similar leadership program at work. Though, there are less meetings once a month. I had to get mine extended. When I first started, my old supervisor was new, and I had good intentions. And then I was like, I can't have my old supervisor mentor me, etc. So, I stalled where I needed to and took classes as I needed. Then the work piled up so badly that I couldn't take any extra time for anything else. Long story short, I got an extension for the leadership program. The other thing is that I understand you'll be on vacation, and it is just one meeting. I probably would try to take it if I could make the internet gods work. But, I'm like that. I check emails on vacation so that I don't come back to thousands when I start up again.
As I've gotten older-especially, the less I like to waste work time and be behind the 8 ball.
And that, again, is just me.
I'm really shocked at how people in my new area scramble at the last minute for things.
There is a task that no one wants to do, and I think that is falling on me, which, is fine. I think I'm supposed to do it anyone. However, it's on specific days of the year. And depending on the outcome of my procedure, I could be recovering from major surgery on the day I'm supposed to work. Or even in surgery. I won't be in a position to ask the medical types to reschedule for work. The medical types are already going to defcon 1 pretty damn quick.
There is no back up system. It is fine that others don't want to do it because they are too busy, etc. But, that's a lot of pressure on me that's just not sustainable. Even if it were someone else, it wouldn't be a sustainable workflow.

Ava - thanks for chiming in on bonus teen.
I'm in a similar work leadership program. I've missed a couple of the monthly mtgs due to client trips. I'd echo trying to call in while on vacation if at all possible but maybe it's 100% in person.

We've been out-of-town the last two weekends, and this is a quiet weekend at home. We do have a charity event to attend to tonight.
Last weekend was DD#2's baby shower. It went as well as it could.
DH and I have decided to go to Mexico in February--right now I'm looking at resorts in Cancun. If anyone has suggestions or advice about that, please, please share! Eventually, I need to stop playing on the computer and get through the paperwork pile that's built up. I don't know why I've been ignoring it, but I most certainly have. I also need to do some kitchen deep cleaning today. It's amazing how quickly a month goes by and the little things need to be cleaned. But for now, here I sit on my couch in my pajamas.

I stayed at Moon Palace for Hootiefest last year, it was pretty nice. all-inclusive, with a golf course on the grounds. the one thing I found odd was that the bathroom had a huge shower stall in it, while a big soaker tub was right out in the middle of the room. lol... us three singles used it as a place to drape wet swimsuits to dry. 🤣

I just made up a grocery list for a little later. pork rides are on sale, so I'll be making some pozole this afternoon. 🤤 it's also supposed to warm up for the next week, so I'll be opening the windows and airing out the house as well.
