DH had shotguns and rifles for years when he hunted pheasant and deer in South Dakota. We currently have revolvers for personal protection, but I feel that, at my current skill level, a shotgun will be a better option for take down in case of home invasion. The ones I'm looking at have options for loading birdshot, buckshot, and slugs but buckshot is my go-to. All guns need regular cleaning, especially in our humid climate. Learning to breakdown, clean and reassemble a shotgun will be a new thing for me. Ammo doesn't last long either and it's gone up a lot in cost. I about fainted the last time we bought a brick of .45 rounds. I have a shotgun. It was my dad's, to deter critters in my mother's vegetable garden. He never shot anything with it, and it's in pieces under my bed. I'm not afraid of home invasions, but if the unthinkable happens, I can ask the miscreants to wait while I assemble the gun. "If you gentlemen would be kind enough to wait...." A John Wick I'm not. "Gentlemen" 🤣

Hot sauce would definitely be more painful than the bottle of antacids I keep by my bed.

Annoyed. I held off all weekend to start watching season 2 of Rings of Power because the kids really wanted to watch it with me. They finally get back tonight and I'm all ready and waiting with popcorn.
They decided to play video games instead.

I'm not even sure how to put it together. I just always felt that a fully-assembled shotgun/rifle is not the best idea to have around the house when there are hot-headed people young people in the house looking to settle a score, and my son knows where I keep the ammo. Better safe than sorry.

I trust my son 100%. I've been able to trust him with my debit card and PIN number since he was very young.
I don't trust some of his friends. My son has a tendency to pick up strays and try to fix them.

One night, when I was worried about a strange man outside my door, I grabbed a can of wasp spray from under my sink, just in case. It shoots a steady stream, far (6 ft?) and wouldn't feel good in someone's eyes, is what I thought.

Grieving. We spent last night in the hospital as hospice eased my father's transition into his heavenly home. I am really sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Some creepy looking guy, that sat down and leaned against my door, when I didn't answer. I called the police and they removed him.

I have owned a Benelli Montefeltro 20 gauge shotgun for 25 years. Really fast action, light to carry in the field and I have seen some with different stocks/grips for different purposes. We took our shotguns to the range a few weeks ago to warm up and troubleshoot any problems. Mine worked great, but I always like it freshly cleaned before the pheasant season opener. I look like a soccer mom, grandma edition, but I know how to swing a shotgun. My mother kept a loaded shotgun by the door for varmints and people she didn't care for. I come by it naturally. We were educated in gun safety from an early age and were told never, ever to shoot at person unless it was to save your own life. We were also taught to utilize the game we shot. I own several shotguns, pumps and automatics. Some were bought, some were inherited. We don't use them nearly as much as we used to. That's a beautiful classic gun. DH and I got into target shooting with automatics years ago, then he started hunting. His/our hunting ethic was like yours, if you kill it, eat it. During our working lives we had concealed carry permits because we were on the road late at night but we no longer feel the need. There's only been a few times when we've picked up our handguns at the house since moving here in '91 and fortunately the display of a firearm was enough. The only time I will fire a weapon is to protect my life or DH's and I pray that day never comes. But, if it does, I want to have an effective weapon. We carry a can of bear spray in AZ when we are out on the 4 wheeler. Neither one of us feels the need to carry a gun on the trail. Bear spray should diffuse a situation for a period of time if need be. Either man or animal.

Once I had a strange man IN my house. I heard noises in my house and crept down the stairs only to find some guy in my kitchen. "Who the hell are you, and what are you doing in my house?"
'I'm the meter reader, madame. I knocked and heard "Come in"
It was probably my very vocal Siamese cat. Good thing I'm not armed. My house would have looked like Carrie's prom night, and some poor, unsuspecting meter reader would be dead.

Another time, I was taking a bath, and there's was someone trying to get in my bathroom window. Naked, and armed only with a bar of scented soap, I threw open the curtain.
It was a raccoon.

It's not bravery. If I don't have a violent and aggressive domestic partner and I didn't rip off a motorcycle gang in a major drug deal, there's very little to be afraid of.

Apparently I'm one of the lucky to experience neuropathy issues from Covid. Mostly just tingling and numbness in hands and feet., along with facial tingling. No idea how long it will last, but it is getting old already. I had it for 2 weeks, was just incredibly painful. Then it morphed to itching which was a little easier to deal with. That lasted a few weeks, at least the intense stuff. I’m still a bit itchy 4 weeks later but it’s manageable.

Good morning, armed and unarmed invisipeeps, ready with sprays of all types, soap, guns in some cases and 911 in others to defend against intrusive raccoons or gang activity. Welcome to Monday. Happy Indigenous People's Day. I hope your day flows easily and calls for no defensive actions. I hope it rains if you need it and does not if you have recently flooded. I hope neuropathy gives you no trouble and no one pees in your Cheerios. I'm doing a little planning for tomorrow. We'll need to leave about 5:30 to be sure to get DD to her clinic on time, at 8:00 a.m. in Boston, so I'll want to take Franklin the Dog for a walk around the park at 5:00. He'll wonder what's going on. Today will be a slow day. Need to stop at a grocery store and pick up a few things. It was cloudy with a spattering of rain yesterday and looks like the same today. Also today I need to figure out a solution to one headlight that refuses to be as bright as the other. It's a bit unnerving when driving in the evening. I did use the RestoWipes and they helped remove the cloudiness on the headlight covers, but the passenger's side light still is too dim. I know, my life is full of wild excitement. Yesterday's was a very mild, calm dawn:

Hosted a get together for DS yesterday. It was nice to focus on something other than frustrating work or eldercare stuff, but it’s also kind of exhausting. I am in no way prepared for it to be Monday. I tried to do more of a fall theme but it was basically exactly the same party we always have. Swimming, campfire, building torches, breaking rocks and sawing tree branches for firewood etc, cooking things on the fire and then ordering pizza, with a side of way too much soda and candy We may have moved on from soda mixing although they did inquire whether we still had the recipe for chicky cola I picked up some random Japanese sodas that I thought looked cool, and they were a hit-there is a little marble stuck in the top to make it airtight and you have to pop it out of the hole/down into the drink to open it.

You made me look We had 348 homicides in 2023, a drop from 2022 numbers. There were 61 homicides in the first quarter of 2024, a substantial drop from 2023. Overall, we are getting safer. And many of the homicides are domestic or gang related, with others occurring during commission of other crimes like robbery or burglary.

Kinky boots was fabulous. Great message, music and a few hearty laughs. Lola was phenomenal!
Today we are at Eastern IL from 9 to 2. Having a hard time rousing the teens even though I let them sleep until 11 yesterday. Going to be a very quiet 3 hour car ride back home to finish the weekend. Got my podcasts ready.

The feet have not been painful, they just keep going to sleep. I can not sit down more than 5 minutes before I have to get moving. The facial tingling is weird and makes it feel like my face looks weird when I talk or smile.

My aunt and I have similar body builds and health histories. She developed Bells Palsy at @40yo, so anything I think is affecting my facial expressions puts me on high alert.

Took Abby to see Coraline the musical yesterday at The Rose. She said it was boring because it followed the book instead of the claymation movie. Theatre does not seem to really be her thing which makes me sad. Maybe when she gets older. Gwen will see a show with me every once and awhile. I feel like I have very little in common with my kids, which isn't a bad thing because they should have their own interests and be their own people but it can be a bummer to not have kids interested in sharing things with me. I was hoping at least one of them would be a drama kid. I really enjoyed the play myself. I wouldn't say it's in my top 10 but it was enjoyable and I really liked the actress who played Other Mother.

A friend had it and it triggered some ongoing neurological issues. Most likely isn’t that but better safe than sorry! I’m sorry you’re feeling so crappy!

I have laughed at the idea in my mind of an 80 plus person having the awareness to get a gun out of a drawer and actually shooting someone before they get shot. There will never be a gun kept in my house.
