Apparently I'm one of the lucky to experience neuropathy issues from Covid. Mostly just tingling and numbness in hands and feet., along with facial tingling. No idea how long it will last, but it is getting old already. Join the club. I was left with a lot of neuropathy from my surgeries. I’ve been dealing with it for 12 years now. Sometimes it’s better than others. At this point, I’m pretty sure it’s permanent.

My ex contracted back to the State Department after retirement. That job required a thorough physical every year. Depending on what showed up in the results, people were not offered a contract, limited as to where they could go, etc. The government did not want people stranded in foreign countries when they were ill. I suspect they had an age limit too. At the time TD was looking at a position, he was just short of 60. 55 was the cut off for this company.

Planning work travel for this week. Not happy about it, but it is what it is and I'll be less than a 2 hour drive from home if DH gets worse.

I bought a 13 pound Butterball turkey from Walmart yesterday for $1.04 a pound. And a bone in half ham for $2.84, it was 9 pounds or so. I really like the smell of roasting turkey and home made noodles in chicken broth too. Why I don't make them more often I dont know, its not hard to make noodles and we like them.
I'm trying to get ahead with extra foods in my small freezer so I don't have to go to the store as often. And I fixed a shelf in my pantry and now have items like sugar, flour, and boxed bakery items down there. No matter how close I hate to start cooking something and be out of an ingredient.
I'm getting there with having items I need again, so that's good. I won't need the quantities I used to have but still need extra items.
Need to get busy and wash my windows, hard to get moving sometimes.

If he did and I say if, this is the same company he worked for all these years. In Africa they many times have a chartered jet for their employees so its much better, all business class and their health coverage is excellent. I don't think he could physically work hard any more as a handyman nor is he interested. I think just because this friend called and may go is the only reason he expressed interest and honestly I don't see it happening. But I know they have taken very old, experienced guys of theirs back many times. They not only need them they are pretty loyal.
It's ok for him to think about it. He goes in this week to see the results of the ultrasound, I have more worries about the cancer being in the bladder or that area. They tried lasering the margins but I'm very afraid they didn't get it all.
I got neuropathy from all the statins they tried or else it just happened at the same time. My feet really hurt at night most times and they feel funny. Sometimes like I have socks on when I don't. I take 60mgs of duloxetine a day now for it. Also starting to have pain around the thumb joints. That is likely osteoarthritis along with neuropathy.

I almost forgot to report an "important" milestone which I reached yesterday. As of ~2pm yesterday I no longer have a single sheet of 2020 TP in the house. So (thanks to the gag 2020 Xmas gift - a humongous box of tp) now I am using stuff TP I recently bought in 2024*. My inadvertent hoarding period has officially ended. *It was on sale before the dock workers short-lived strike so I did not participate in the recent storming of the TP and paper towels in the stores

I've been a packing fool. So far all my shoes except what I wear everyday is packed. My winter clothes are too. I put them in luggage in the unlikely even that we got a cold snap then I could access them easily. Yesterday I did all my coats/hoodies.I also packed up a pretty extensive DVD collection. I'll do my summer clothes another day. If I do a box a day until 10/21 I think I'll be good.

He is two years older than me. It is not often and it is now a week at a time. He spent a year in Kyiv. The team got tired of hotel living so they rented an apartment in an area where the heat was operable 24 hours a day. At the hotel the government had them in, they didn't have heat during the night. I don't know if the US is still doing anything in Haiti, but the two times he went there, they deplaned at the airport and were taken by Army tank to the hotel. A tank took them to the work site and back to hotel. Only were there a week at a time because of the conditions and lack of safety. He's more likely now to get sent to DC to do training then to be sent to a foreign country.

Also sometimes cheese and crackers or PB&J are totally acceptable dinner options. I’ve done popcorn or cold cereal before. Also, just fruit and cheese. That said, I think I had a foodgasm today. I made these. I picked halibut for the fish recipe, and it came out almost silky. The flavor of the honey dijon sauce was just incredible. I did not do the veggies, since I was making the quinoa salad. I can totally see the honey dijon sauce over chicken breast. The quinoa salad was incredible. It isn’t in the recipe, but I thought craisins would be a good addition. Alas, I was out, so I added raisins. The store didn’t have butternut squash so I did sweet potato. The only thing I would change is either less onion, no onion, or not roasted. They were overpowering. www.cottercrunch.com/honey-mustard-baked-fish-and-vegetables/cooknourishbliss.com/2019/11/05/fall-quinoa-salad/

I found mold on the patio. Ewwwww. Likely courtesy of the standing water from the storm.
I got a bucket, brush, bleach and outdoor spray cleaner and dealt with it. Dishwasher has run and laundry is underway. Dinner is an in-the-oven affair, so no hard work involved.

Made chocolate chip cookies, crisp, the way DH likes them. I'm good either way. Right now I'm coloring my hair and cruising the boards. I'll be sure to wave, Tennesseer, by Springfield. We'll go out by Amherst, I think.

Dungeness crab was on sale this weekend. Last night I bought a bunch and we are going to do a crab feast tonight. I need a refresher lesson on taking them apart again.

I had a large bag of frozen berries from Costco, and though I've been eating it a cup at a time with my oatmeal or granola I wasn't really putting a dent in it. So I had a mixed berry crisp using 5 cups of the frozen berries and another 3 cups just of blueberries (which I'd bought and frozen when they were in season). I'm waiting for it to cool down now. Smells great!

I was up half the night visiting the commode again, I'm ok, but don't like the continuous part. I would say its from kimchee but honestly I need a clean out once in awhile. And I LOVE kimchee, just need to quit eating it out of the jar, LOL! Since hubs took little guy it was quiet and I slept till 11, that was nice.
Lunch is done and hubs is going to help me do the windows. Don't think we will do more cutting today. We only have the hydrangeas left to cut out.

I keep a stash of canned soup, WAY more than a single person really needs, for days like this. like, when the grocery store has a major sale, I'll wipe out the stock of the couple of flavors I like. also, FYI - Progresso has a spicy line now. the spicy chicken noodle is pretty solid for a canned soup. salty AF, but it's got a nice kick to it.

so it's funny that I said I needed to find some clothes instead of the towel I was still wearing 15min after my shower, bc as soon as I hit 'post' my parents pulled into my driveway. I opened the door to the deck for the dogs to go out, and went off to find clothes. lularoe leggings and a Patriots jersey FTW. and yes, I'm aware that I will be becoming a functional member of public society again soon. I need to go shopping, ugh. turkey dinner was fantastic, and my parents brought some gorgeous small bites from an Italian bakery up their way. I'm looking forward to enjoying something sweet a little later. I'm still full, I don't eat that much anymore. I sent them home with as much as I could get away with, since they don't have an oven (yes, they are still in the hotel. don't get me started). but a 14lb turkey is way more than needed for 3 people lol.... here's to a good week for all of us coming up.

We are so hot and so dry here. There's a good chance we'll break a record tomorrow at 97, we haven't had rain in weeks and there is none in sight. The sprinkler runs twice a week so the next water bill will probably be $300-$400. The soil is shifting and water lines are snapping all over town. Today I saw a neighbor doing the smart thing by dropping a little battery-operated pump in the stream of water running from the broken water main so he could water his yard. We're already under a burn ban and I expect water restrictions before Thanksgiving.

It's hot and dry here too, in the mid 90's today. Also, our water bills went WAY up a couple of months ago, then the new rate got rescinded so should be about 30% higher ongoing. Sigh.

Thank you for all the warm thoughts. The week ahead will be tough, but it can't be avoided. Good time to buy stock in Kleenex.

It's 60 here. The highest it's going to get in the next two weeks is 77.
Fingers crossed fall has moved in.
And that means DHs least favorite thing is going to happen...its endless soup time!
I'm making cheeseburger soup tonight.

Sometimes DH surprises me. I told him I am interested in a new personal protection weapon and he was very chill so we'll go shopping next week. I've never had a shotgun before but I'm going to look at some 20-gauge ones. It feels really weird to say that.

I have finally figured out what is on many of the windows, its a very, very fine paint over spray. Today with ammonia and vinegar in water I washed 3 that had not been done and the water had white in it. I scraped them but didn't get it all off. I told hubs next time I do some will use brush cleaner or some cleaner first and I bet it all comes off. At least I finally figured it out.
He took grandson this morning and then helped me trim a few things and he was exhausted. I worry about him. If we manage to get this done, will be the last house we ever work on. We did good yesterday but think we are tired from that still. I told him just quit. We just want things cleaned up for winter. I would have hired someone to do it but not him.
He is going to put a tarp building on the end of the patio to take things from the garage and store so he can tape, bed, and paint it. I don't like the idea, but it won't be there forever. He can keep busy but not do things fast. We are talking now of just putting laminate in the bedrooms. That's ok for DD's but I would rather have carpet for my feet. Laminate is easy to put down, I've done a lot of it.
He goes to the doc at 8:30 in the morning, I don't really want to, but think I better. Then at 2:30, I have to take DD. That reminds me need to finish filling out her paperwork so need to do that tonight. Never ending, we already have a stack of it since being up here

I have a couple of shotguns and a handgun or two. I'm not worried about needing them here, they are still in the gun safe all taped up. They need cleaned and brought in the house. Will draw moisture out there. Also have a case of shotgun shells.

Will draw moisture out there. Also have a case of shotgun shells. DH had shotguns and rifles for years when he hunted pheasant and deer in South Dakota. We currently have revolvers for personal protection, but I feel that, at my current skill level, a shotgun will be a better option for take down in case of home invasion. The ones I'm looking at have options for loading birdshot, buckshot, and slugs but buckshot is my go-to. All guns need regular cleaning, especially in our humid climate. Learning to breakdown, clean and reassemble a shotgun will be a new thing for me. Ammo doesn't last long either and it's gone up a lot in cost. I about fainted the last time we bought a brick of .45 rounds. I have a shotgun. It was my dad's, to deter critters in my mother's vegetable garden. He never shot anything with it, and it's in pieces under my bed. I'm not afraid of home invasions, but if the unthinkable happens, I can ask the miscreants to wait while I assemble the gun. "If you gentlemen would be kind enough to wait...." A John Wick I'm not.

I've never had a shotgun before but I'm going to look at some 20-gauge ones. It feels really weird to say that. I have owned a Benelli Montefeltro 20 gauge shotgun for 25 years. Really fast action, light to carry in the field and I have seen some with different stocks/grips for different purposes. We took our shotguns to the range a few weeks ago to warm up and troubleshoot any problems. Mine worked great, but I always like it freshly cleaned before the pheasant season opener. I look like a soccer mom, grandma edition, but I know how to swing a shotgun. My mother kept a loaded shotgun by the door for varmints and people she didn't care for. I come by it naturally. We were educated in gun safety from an early age and were told never, ever to shoot at person unless it was to save your own life. We were also taught to utilize the game we shot. I own several shotguns, pumps and automatics. Some were bought, some were inherited. We don't use them nearly as much as we used to.
