In other news, I don't have bags/dark circles under my eyes. First time in a very long time. I also need a good night time moisturizer aimed at middle aged folks. i'll take recommendations. And recommendations on what I should do about my car. I don't know what to replace it with. Idk about the car, but the 25's are coming out and hopefully there are some rebates on the 24's, assuming you might buy new. DH wanted to get a used small SUV for running family to the Dr, but he said everything used is so expensive he will either keep my 21 for that purpose or buy something new. I was kind of thinking we might benefit from the dockworker's strike on the resale. We will see. We don't have to have an extra car. DH also wants the car available for DD, but I told DH that DD gets a discount on rental cars, so if she needs a car when she is home, she can rent one. I saw yesterday that Toyota was claiming they were ready for the strike and had built up inventory, but then I saw a counter argument to that saying that car sales were down, and that is why they have excess inventory. I am sorry you Legacy didn't work out. DD is very happy with her 23 Legacy, but I don't think she has all that many miles on it. Are you looking for a car or an SUV? I use Clinique Repairwear uplifting Dry to very dry. It is expensive, but I have sensitive skin, and have tried other things over the years and ended up with issues. I did buy La Roche-Possay Double Repair Face Moisturizer from Target that I like though. It was a freebie I took on a buy 3 get one free offer and I like it. I keep it in my makeup bag at work. It is on the buy 3 get one free special right now (10.99 for 1.35 FL oz.) Many days I just put the moisturizer on and skip the makeup.

It’s probably not helping anything that I physically feel like total crap because my sinuses are giving me the blues. Last Wednesday night I woke up around midnight and it felt like my throat was on fire. My ears, face, head, teeth and one side of my neck were all hurting. It’s been awful ever since. I’m not getting any sleep because everything gets even worse during the night.
I have a Doctor’s appointment today because what I’ve been trying isn’t working. Plus, I have to get on an airplane next week, and I’m worried about my ears, they hurt when I fly, even if my sinuses aren’t acting up. I sometimes get ear infections because of my sinus issues, and I don’t want that to happen if it hasn’t already since they hurt anyway right now.
So maybe if I get my sinuses calmed down and get some sleep, and feel better physically, I’ll feel at least a little better mentally. At least I hope so. Getting away for a few days next week won’t hurt either.

I have known about the new half sister match for over 3 years. I wasn't sure it was a different half sister than the one I know about until this past January when the one I know about told me she had never taken a DNA test.
This was the first time I've ever had a match of someone I didn't know where they fit in. So I googled their name and found out it's the granddaughter.
I have to think on this.
It's not shocking to me because of the knowledge I already have and I can accept what my dad was doing during WWII.
You know who is having problems with this? The grandchildren!!! Their grandpa would not have done that. I have asked each one of them what they were doing at that age. They get really quiet.

giramomma DH prefers to lease his cars as he gets bored very quickly. One thing unique to leases is the inspection at the end of the lease prior to surrender. It varies from dealer to dealer, sometimes the end-of-lease inspection is done by the lender and sometimes by the dealer. You will be assessed penalties for any deviation between the car you got on Day 1 and the car you return, apart from "normal wear and tear." DH had a Cadillac, lending bank sent inspector who refused to sign off on it saying the car had been totaled and repainted. Why did he say that? Because the paint on the underside of the vehicle was shitty and he said Cadillac would never produce a car like that. The car had NEVER been in even the tiniest accident, much less totaled but we went through pure hell proving that. DH leased a Mini Cooper, he took a piece of gravel to the windshield which cause a crack. We have glass coverage on our insurance BUT it only covers a generic windshield. Our options were to go with what the insurance would cover and get hit with a big penalty upon surrender for not returning vehicle in original condition, or to pay the difference upfront for a manufacturer's windshield (we chose this option, it was about $600).

Use right before taking off.

Soupsndstew never knew ‘fancier’ windshields weren’t completely covered I have a Tesla and windshield is definitely fancy
Could you use that liquid bonding material for the little ding? See it advertised but don’t know if the repair is evident

Went to the Musee des Beaux Artes today. There were 3 separate buildings we needed to go into. Interesting collection, the last was a special exhibit by a photographer that I just couldn’t get into. But she did do a series of photos on Michael Jackson, from before Thriller to the end. They were definitely not complimentary to his plastic surgeon.
Question for folks who have more education than I do in art history……why do children in paintings prior to about 1850 or so look like adults? Even babies have faces of adults. Google has the explanation that it’s a depiction of Jesus, but that makes no sense to me. I may have to look further.
BTW, Lay’s potato chips in cheeseburger flavor is interesting. I don’t taste cheese or beef, but definitely get pickles and mustard.
One last run for groceries. Baguettes for dinner tonight and breakfast in the morning. Cheese, grapes and ham. We should be able to clean everything up. Our flight leaves around noon tomorrow, we will probably get an Uber around 8:30.

I've had headaches off and on and sinus issues for nearly two weeks now. And it matches to the nearly two weeks of rain and the corresponding pressure systems. It's not fun at all. I think we might finally be in the clear.

I have sinus allergies all year. It's pollen and mold/mildew, temperature and humidity changes. When answering the medical allergy question I say I'm allergic to air. Luckily I don't get headaches.

According to the label, you should not use Afrin for more than 72 hours.
I was thinking it's not so much that it will stop working but will cause sinus congestion when the whole purpose for using it in the first place was decongestion.
I could be wrong.

She said just to use it for flights. It does get you in and out of the changing pressures reasonably comfortably. I never used it for anything else, as it does have a rebound effect.

I'm stunned. I have a phone screen interview with the hiring manager tomorrow afternoon, for a job I applied for last night after EOB. what?? 🤯 I just spoke with the recruiter for the posting, and after he rambled a little about how they have already screened a few, I'd be the tail end, and the mgr would know by next Monday or Tuesday who he would want to put to a panel interview... I was like wait, what's the expected timeline for on-boarding this new person?? mid-November, but they could live with the first week of December. yikes. I guess I'll go with my gut, and if it's meant to be, it will be. 🤷♀️ Good luck!

Pink Cashmere I know you hate your job and are counting down until retirement because it is physically demanding. However, are you open to working an office-type job after that time? I think you'll only be in your mid-50s, so if you're willing to work a less strenuous job for a few years, when combined with your pension, you should be in a good financial position by yourself. I think having a plan might be helpful for your mental state right now. I know I'm not alone in wishing that we could waive a magic wand for you. I would work an office type job if I have to. What’s really daunting is buying a house that costs a few hundred thousand dollars at this point in my life. Just a few years ago, I could’ve bought one for around $200k. I don’t need a big house, the location is more important. I’ve been saying for a few years now that I don’t see how what has happened with the local housing market is sustainable, but last I looked, the costs were still crazy. Thank you, I wish there was a magic wand too. The prices aren't going down. If you wanted to buy one, it would be in your best interest to do it sooner than later. I'm kind of appalled at how much they cost lately.

My doc said use Flonase, its not addictive and across the counter is same as scrip, I need to use it more often
My kitty was parked on my lap leaning back just staring at me. I wonder what goes through that little brain, he was getting his petting session and purring like crazy. I love cats. I find them very soothing, petting them and listen to and watching them.
Today is lovely out, but likely cool since the furnace is running off and on and I only have it set for 73.
I have started a budget this month, tracking everything I spend. With maintaining 4 houses going to have too really watch it till we sell some.
I bought $90 worth of meat yesterday and didn't even make a dent in the tiny freezer. I allocated $900 a month for food and doubt seriously that will do it. I worry the prices of everything is going to hurt in the election. This doc strike and middle east wars are going to drive prices up even more I think. Not much we can do about either. I need to cook way more and eat out even less.
But still slept well last night and am in a good mood.
Fixing coffee and toast with apricot marmalade for me, not sure for DD yet. Have to redo pills today also. Oh and need to feed my kitties too. And refill our pill boxes.
Later all.

I heard that folks that live near Atlanta are getting headaches, and it's affecting people all the way into Florida due to that fire at the chemical plant. I'd hate to be breathing that in.
Our weather is doing the roller coaster thing, where the temps are going up & down 20 degrees each day. It gives me a headache and makes my joints ache too.

I bought Afrin before I flew to Pittsburgh this spring, at Micah’s suggestion. Then I forgot to actually use it lol. I know it can cause more problems if you use it too long or too often, so I just stick to my prescription nosepray or something like Flonase in regular life. I still have the Afrin, I just don’t use it. will look into the one you linked, since it works magic for you. Thanks.

We went to Aldi today for a couple of things, and I found gorgeous lamb shanks which I'll braise with red wine. We also had a totally delightful chat with a total stranger. She was on the paper goods aisle with us as I got our normal replacement TP, paper napkins and 2 rolls of paper towels. She smiled at me and said, "Have you seen the crazy pictures on TV of people buying out all the TP and water and stuff?" We laughed and said, yes, we had and that's nuts. She told us she was from Romania and we started yakking it up. Her mother was from Greece and had two degrees, one in economics and one in French. We expressed our admiration of all things Romanian and discovered we have so much in common. Like me, she takes old towels and cuts them down for cleaning rags or use in the garage. Like me, she makes chicken broth with the backbone, wing tips and neck from a whole chicken. She and DH swapped recipes for polenta . She and her husband are retiring in 2 years and going back to Romania where they have 12 acres in the mountains. They want an active, outdoor lifestyle and she commented about the lack of outdoor activities here. Like weltz, she wants to visit the bakery, the fishmonger and the cheese merchant instead of going to Target. They plan to travel a lot in the region including Bulgaria which is our 2nd favorite country in Europe. She says Turkey is really gorgeous too, but politically unstable as we all know. It was a wonderful and fortuitous meeting.

Thank you, I wish there was a magic wand too. The prices aren't going down. If you wanted to buy one, it would be in your best interest to do it sooner than later. I'm kind of appalled at how much they cost lately. I am appalled myself. I couldn’t even afford to buy the house I live in now. I got priced out of the market less than a year after we moved. I am not in a position to buy right now. I am still working on my savings, because I put a big dent in it when I was fooling with my stomach. 20% of my pay goes to my retirement account, plus 5% from my employer. Half of it pretax, and half to the Roth option. I am afraid to reduce that, because I’ve made dumb decisions with it way back when, so it’s already not what it should be, or what I am comfortable with. Between payroll deductions, and automatic savings aside from my retirement account, I live on less than half of my salary. That is doable because Mister pays most of the bills where I live now, but even with that, it will take a while for me to save enough to have the kind of down payment I would need to be able to afford a mortgage payment, even with the money I’d receive from selling my house. When I speak of a mortgage payment, I mean in retirement. I could maybe squeeze and handle it now, I’m more concerned about later. And then I’d also have to get the courage to actually sell my house, since it would mean my Mom would be homeless. Because no matter how much I’ve ranted and raved, she has refused to move. My logical brain understands that it wouldn’t necessarily be my fault, but regardless of everything that has happened, I do still love her and care about what happens to her. And now my stomach is feeling funny, so I don’t want to think about it anymore right now.

I'm thinking seriously of a Kia Soul, son had one for years, good little car. I've had 3 of them and they were good cars, surprisingly roomy with good cargo space too. I'm probably going with a KIA Telluride or maybe Sorrento because I want something that sits higher with more power and they know have them with AWD which is a must-have for me.

Thank you, I wish there was a magic wand too. what is renting like? I know it is not always ideal and comes with its own headaches but if it would mean giving you breathing room and space to figure everything else out it might be worth considering. What happened here is that “investors”, many of them from out of town, bought a lot of the houses here soon after the pandemic started, because housing was pretty cheap here, compared to other parts of the country. The demand drove prices up, and many “regular” folks couldn’t compete with the cash offers from the investors, and what they were willing to pay. A lot of the homes that investors bought, were turned into rental properties, and the cost to rent got ridiculous too. Earlier this year, Mrs. T was keeping me up to date with her search for somewhere in the area to rent, after she decided her marriage was over. The places she looked at that cost up to $1800/month, were trash and not being taken care of. Her income is more than what I live on, and more than what I think my income in retirement will be, and she couldn’t even find anywhere decent to rent. $1800/month may be peanuts in other parts of the country, but until the pandemic, $1800/month went a long way for housing, whether it was buying or renting a nice house in a nice area, or living in an upscale apartment. So renting is problematic too these days, as far as cost.
