I've had good luck getting refurbished phones off Amazon. Gwen insists on I phones. She doesn't need a brand spanking new one. Way less expensive I just pop her Sim card out and put it in the new one. Then we are with Cricket and they sell phones at Walmart. My phone isn't the latest Samsung but it only cost me $90 instead of what it would cost buying at the Cricket store. Please tell me more about getting refurbed phones please? My current Samsung was a freebie from my BIL 3 years or so ago. Came with a Smart watch too but I broke that sucker about 2 years ago. I'm tired of buying things I'm just going to destroy in no time flat Go look at Swappa.com. You can find brand new to fair condition phones; most new phones you can get for less than retail. My husband uses Swappa when he needs a new phone (I time my phone purchases with black Friday sales from Google) and he has never had an issue. I always get an unlocked phone (less carrier bloatware installed). And for everyone who still has an outdated and unsupported phone, please ensure whatever you end up buying is going to continue to get security and operating system upgrades for at least the next couple of years. Don't replace currently obsolete with soon-to-be obsolete just to save a couple of bucks and have to buy another phone next year.

Has anyone had an elderly kitty with feline dementia? Our last girl is will be 17 in Feb. Conversation with the vet amounted to “don’t worry about it too much, they usually pass away from other conditions before the dementia gets bad”. I want to know when it does become a problem, and anyone with advice/feedback might be helpful. Sushi is about 18 or so. He has feline dementia. He gets confused and howls terribly at night, and I found that leaving a few nightlights on for him helps somewhat. He also has sundowning syndrome which often comes with dementia. He starts crying and pacing, pacing, pacing when the sun is setting. www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/alzheimers-disease/expert-answers/sundowning/faq-20058511He's having trouble with balance, and I've put little 'steps' to help with getting up on the couch or bed. Otherwise, he falls. He's pretty healthy, other than warts and hyperthyroidism. Sometimes, he misses the litterbox when pooping. His butt hangs off the edge, and he doesn't realize it. At least it's hard and not diarrhea, so easy to pick up. His teeth are terrible and he needs dental work, but the vet said he may or may nor survive the anaesthesia at his age. Of course, they'll still charge me. A lot. Good luck. It's so sad when they're reaching the end of their lifespan.

And just when you think stupid people can't get stupider, someone in the neighborhood complained on Facebook that we had too much helicopter traffic over our houses and needed to do something about it. Sure, I'll get on that right away. Hmmm, get rid of the Interstate which has lots of wrecks drawing news choppers and Life Flight, or the big Level 2 trauma center receiving lots of Life Flights, or the TV station on the freeway with their chopper, or maybe the police hunting down the bad guys with their little bird.

She is starting to go blind now too though. We also have night lights The girl we had to put to sleep this summer was a stand up pee’er. Putting puppy pads down at the box opening helped immensely. That might help for Sushi if he does have a bad tummy day. I am going to try the feliway plug ins to see if that helps to calm her. She is already on two blood pressure meds, so I am not keen on another med unless it is necessary.

It is windy today. If it keeps up all week, I think the black walnuts will be bare by the weekend.

Seriously folks this is how our shoe conversation went this morning: Me: Did you have any luck searching? DD1:No, mom, I need your help. Me: Ok, what exactly are you looking for DD1: women white sole sneakers in navy blue <off to google *exact description*> DD1: No. No. No. No. No. They have to be sneakers (aka, normal shoes). Vans are too casual. Chucks are OK. They are supposed to look different, because homecoming. No keds. No heels. No open toes. Go find me some shoes! That is me and my uncle. He tells me what he wants and I pull it up on my phone. He then pulls out his credit card. He calls me the shopping queen. The only thing I couldn't find him was a fireplace insert. I know nothing about fireplaces. I should probably learn through since I'm about to have one.

I think I changed my mind. I'm probably better off with chemo/immunotherapy. So much can go wrong with surgery...complications from anaesthesia, infection, possible drains, rehab, physio, oxygen therapy, needing help from the CLSC, being away from home for so long, etc. At least with chemo, I'll be home, and can take care of myself and my baby boy, Sushi. What's a little puking and losing my hair? I'm so conflicted. Waiting for an appointment at the oncology clinic. Dr. Google is no help at all.

Even though the temps are in the mid 80s today, the humidity is low. The sun is on the other side of the house, and a brisk breeze running the length of the porch made porching delightful today. I almost got beaked by a pair of squabbling hummers. I have the guest room clean, bedding washed, and small furniture back in. It is a small room with a queen bed. We needed to move a cabinet and other items out to make it easier for my mom to navigate. Our next guests will be DH’s son and his girlfriend at Thanksgiving. I got all the laundry done, last batch in the dryer. Started cleaning the office and got my work station back in order. Friday I took advantage of being in FL to have lunch with a close friend, and dinner with DD2. Grand-little was so surprised to see me! Nothing like a 5 year old squeal of delight and chalky purple hands! We went out for pizza and hit up Five Below for crafts.

I ordered new floor registers, about all of these had fins broken. These are the kinds of little things that need done. I bought more decorative bronze ones. On DD's we put a deflector in so it won't just blow up into the draperies. Received them today and put them in.
Ordered curtain rods, wondered how a 144 inch one would come. It came in about 18 inch lengths that screw together, so actually stronger. Sure is different, but I like it.
Have to see how long my existing curtains are. We need to take the blinds and brackets down so I can paint around each window.

DH fixed a great supper and I'm sitting here crying because vandals removed all the political signs from our friends' house. It doesn't matter what party they support, it matters that we should be free to lawfully support our candidates of choice as permitted by State and local law. And we should not have to spend $$$ on video surveillance cameras to protect our rights! This is not a partisan political comment but if the mods feel otherwise I will remove it.

My elderly neighbor had a lot of political signs in her yard, and for a stretch of a few weeks someone came every night and pulled them out. Every morning we went over and put them back up. We didn't really agree with her political choices, but damn. At least they left the signs.

The online thoracic oncology course I took during covid is probably out of date at this point…but surgery for early stage lung cancer was, and will still be, generally curative. Chemo was a roll of the dice. Talk to your doctor and think carefully about likely and unlikely outcomes and how you would feel about each of them, in the context of the choices you make.

Well. I'm not great in shape.
However, I was able to hike 2 miles in an hour in bad heat today. Which I was happy about.
And I can wear my mary janes again without my feet looking like stuffed sausages.
Then DH and I went out to eat.
And then I napped.
Now I'm cooking for tonight/leftovers for tomorrow.
And then I have to pack my lunch and put the missy to bed tonight.

What's a little puking and losing my hair? I'm so conflicted. Waiting for an appointment at the oncology clinic. Dr. Google is no help at all. Can you take care of yourself on chemo though? I was lucky. I only felt off four days after chemo. By day 5, things tasted normal again. I didn't throw up once. I was nauseous though. I was very, very lucky. You also will have your WBC tested. Too low, no chemo. Though, I did get at home in injections so I never had low WBC. Fevers will also be an issue. Anytime you have a fever, you'll have to get yourself to the ER. One of my clients had breast cancer. She wasn't even 30 yet. She ended up in the hospital twice for stays because of fevers. She was given a light course of chemo. I think they called it "fertility preservation" chemo dosage. If you have chemo, will you have a port? If they do the port, then you'll still be put under. They just don't give you local. It's twilight sedation. So. I guess i'm trying to say it's not like chemo isn't going to have its risks. There's a good chance that treatment could be prolonged/take longer than it's supposed to. I was exceptionally lucky that my treatment went as scheduled. And, unfortunately, it's like parenting. You really don't know what you are getting into until you actually go through it. All that said, I only had a lumpectomy. I didn't go with a mastectomy or double mastectomy, even with my mutation. My surgeon didn't think I needed the radical surgery, and advised against it, because of the physical cost. However, my surgeon also knew I had four kids, including a 3 year old and I was continuing to work full time. If they told me that a double mastectomy would have been a cure, and no chemo or radiation was needed, I probably would have done that. Even with the physical cost. I wasn't back to myself for a good 6-9 months until after I was done with treatment. I can't imagine that if I just would have had surgery, it would have been a 15-18 month ordeal when all was said and done.

Phone call with J was a bust. He was so crabby and could not stop. So daddy cut the call short to deal with him.
J didn't say a nice word to me, mommy or daddy.

I'm not pushing you to have the surgery. Or chemo.
I get that you only have crappy choices ahead of you to deal with a crappy thing.
My 40s were all about picking the least crappy of all crappy choices.
Ultimately, I made the choice that would allow me to live with myself.
It wasn't always the right choice on paper. And I've never gone wrong making the choices that allowed me to live with myself.
And like others have said, you'll make the right choice for you.

I don't need the latest, just functional. I love my Samsung s8 edge. I'm pissed, I have to replace it. The S8 is my last phone that I'm reusing and I really love it - never much liked the Pixel 5 I replaced it with in Feb 2021 - too big and bulky. The only problem with the S8 is the volume adjustment.I'd frozen in place so I can't take screen shots or adjust the volume. IIRC I splashed Coke on it. Lol

My stepmother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2022. The tumor was inoperable due to it's proximity to her heart and it was wrapped around the pulmonary vessel (or something like that). She only had chemo and radiation for 6 weeks and was done in Nov of 2022 (although she had immunotherapy for another year). Two years later the cancerous tumor continues to shrink and there are no new spots. The radiation did damage her heart so she's had to deal with that now too, but it's getting better as well. They have made several international trips since her diagnosis and are currently getting ready to head to Portugal. Just pointing out there's hope no matter how bad it looks initially.
