I sat out on the deck about 5 am this morning, listening to two barred owls have a conversation. I love hearing the owls. It was a good start to today. Just doesn’t get any better than this. I’m a tad jealous.

Well, somehow by magic our finances are still holding.
They shouldn't be, really on paper. It may take some time yet, to see the ramifications of everything.

I swear there is a wormhole in our couches.
I couldn't find my phone last night. We searched everywhere including the couch.
Called it multiple times. Hears nothing.
Two minutes ago I casually slide my hand into the back of the couch and there it was.
Ringer is on and it shows it picked up the calls.
This has happened with every couch we own. Something disappears it magically reappears behind the same cushion.
That or we got a poltergeist. I told grandma if it's her quit messing with me I need my phone tomorrow.

Talking about phones. I bought mine in January 2023 and I've noticed the battery lasts less and less. A new phone is like a new (used) car to me. Just a headache and a big expense. Absolutely NOT ready for this one dying soon.

Getting up, slowly. Lol.
I have a meetup today with the group I organize. We had to get tickets for the museum in advance.
After that, we're supposed to go for a bite to eat. And I need groceries.
Of course, I have to work in person tomorrow and I also signed up for an after-work get together. Employer had to make reservations, and I signed for the activity weeks ago.
I think this is the first time I got a cold in summer. I feel like I'm coming back from the dead. It's been years since I got a cold.
To clarify, I'm over it. I don't cough or sneeze anymore. If I still had the cold, I would cancel everything no matter what. But I'm just a little weak and tired and could have used a couple more days in bed.
Anyway, I'll probably stay in bed on Tuesday with the laptop since I work from home and there's not much going on right now.

Seriously folks this is how our shoe conversation went this morning:
Me: Did you have any luck searching? DD1:No, mom, I need your help. Me: Ok, what exactly are you looking for DD1: women white sole sneakers in navy blue <off to google *exact description*> DD1: No. No. No. No. No.
They have to be sneakers (aka, normal shoes). Vans are too casual. Chucks are OK. They are supposed to look different, because homecoming.
No keds. No heels. No open toes.
Go find me some shoes!

I was going to call Fidelity today to start the process to move the old 401K to my Trad. IRA with them. But their website says the retirement accounts phone number is available Monday to Friday. I was feeling so bad during the week that I didn't want to talk to anyone, with the cough and sneezing and the throat pain. Anyway, I'll call them Tuesday that I'll be home all day. Now with mom back home I have more time to start organizing everything after changing jobs. After I get the 401k sorted, I still have to move the old HSA from OPTUM to Fidelity. Then I need to understand new employer's medical insurance. I got in one of their plans just to get coverage for now, but I have to investigate more to get the best coverage for me for next year. They have several plans, and they use a plan administrator that you can call or email. Looks like the plans are very comprehensive with integrated care, as long as you stay in their preferred network. Unfortunately, I don't see my doctor's name in there. I would feel very sorry to have to change doctors because I really feel comfortable with her. But I'm not going to stay with her if she's out of network. I will have to find someone new. Also, I need to take a look at their 401k and HSA. For now, I let them enroll me on their automatic 6% plan which they match at 3% of salary. I think it's automatically invested on a targeted date fund for the year I turn 65. The plan is with VOYA Financial. No idea who they are, but I will max out starting January 1st and look for their best options. The HSA looks like it's just an account with no investment options. Not sure, will have to look into that also. I don't use the HSA to pay for care, but as an additional retirement account. So investing it is really important to me. Anyway, little by little I will get things sorted.

I always buy a new one at the Total Wireless website. Not the most expensive one, but around $120. I don't know how to change a Sim card. With the one I have now I went to the nearest Verizon store. They own Total Wireless now. They changed my Sim card for a fee. Then I had to buy a new charger, new case, etc. The phone don't come with chargers anymore.

It is not even 10am.
Most bills are paid. (I still have to deal with the cc; but I have a week) The missy got her practice in. She is also clean. DD1 is signed up for private tumbling lessons. I'm caught up on entering things for scouting. (Though, i still have to take some training).
I also got a little bit of stitching in.
Is it time for bed yet.

Fixed a big breakfast and the floors are mopped. DH is on his stationary bike in the garage and we'll go to Aldi after lunch.

I went and saw Beetlejuice in the theater by myself. Couple cheesy parts but would definitely recommend. It was good to get out of the house for a bit. I totally enjoyed going to movies by myself. It's been a long time since I have been to a movie. Not related to the pandemic. It's more of a chore when I have to drive so far to see a movie. I can enjoy and if I don't like the movie, I can leave if I don't like the movie. If I go with other people, I can't leave unless they don't like the movie. I haven't had many movies that I absolutely did not want to sit through but it wasn't fun when I had to stay when I didn't like the movie.

Both the volleyball team and the football team won. I'm sorry the football team won. I really want the coach to move on so the program can be about the players, not just him and his two sons. It's no wonder there is so much turnover on the team.
Volleyball has another match this afternoon.

Has anyone had an elderly kitty with feline dementia? Our last girl is will be 17 in Feb. Conversation with the vet amounted to “don’t worry about it too much, they usually pass away from other conditions before the dementia gets bad”. I want to know when it does become a problem, and anyone with advice/feedback might be helpful. Our old lady Katt had dementia. Lots of aimless wandering, yowling at night, sleeping all day, lack of grooming. Our boy Charlie took to grooming her and laying next to her. ❤️ Thankfully she was still able to use the litter box and we didn't have to deal with accidents. I got liquid gabapentin for her to help with the anxiety.

I'm going to dissolve into dust guys I'm so old.
Abby was watching the dance scene from Deadpool to "Bye Bye Bye".
She told me that the song comes from the Trolls movie.
No child no! It comes from the Nsync album No Strings Attached.
::Blank stare:: Who?
I'm dead.

I'm tired of buying things I'm just going to destroy in no time flat

I don't need the latest, just functional. I love my Samsung s8 edge. I'm pissed, I have to replace it.

Other than getting up to pee, I slept 10 hours last night. That only happens about twice a year.
Everyone survived the night, and I'm in a much better mood today.

In for the night in Sligo….actually Ballygawley. We are staying at another facility not unlike where my niece’s wedding was. Today we went to Boyle Abbey and Eagles Flying, a raptor center. Got to meet lots of birds up close and personal, and feed a golden eagle a chicken leg. Dang those birds have a huge wingspan!
We are here only one night. Bushmills for 2 nights, 2 nights in Belfast and a night in Dublin near the airport as we have an early morning flight on the 21st.

Got a call from my mother last night. Apparently the PCP on the schedule for Monday is no longer acceptable. I told her she had to keep this appointment to keep the home health services but we could start the process of switching (involves calling insurance etc) after this one. I suspect she was just looking for attention but we’ll see. Her favorite pseudo-son stopped by today to fix her screen door so it props open and also closes and to supervise her filling the days of the week pill box so hopefully that will have scratched the itch. I can both appreciate it’s hard to go from having me there to take care of everything to having me gone, and also desperately/legitimately need a break. Getting close to up to speed. Groceries shopped, laundry and cleaning to acceptable levels. Did some pressing work tasks, took a look at the to do list there. Still need to venture into the world of checking whether DS is doing his assignments and i Don’t Wanna. DS insisted he needed a giant hot dog/sausage and had to be convinced the monster roll of ground beef was not in that category He eventually settled for a footlong hot dog. Also for some reason they make oreo flavored coke
